I first got turn on to Thip's when a coworkers ask who wants to have Thips for lunch...well that was over 5 years ago. My go to meal is the Kang Karee curry. I turned my family and they all love this dish from 1 to 4 stars...I get 3 Stars for the extra spice. The curry flavors mixed with potatoes and chicken is mouth watering. The lunch special comes with a choice of spring roll (with a sweet dippng sauce) or crab rangoon and white steam rice or for a $1.00 up charge for fried rice. I would suggest the white rice. This is a great deal for $8.99. I know all the staff members and have been waited on by all and they all do a super nice job and swing by to fill your drinks when it gets low. if you like Thai and want to try something good and spicy, i recommend this dish...to go or eat in...both will be served with smiles and attention. The decor is nicely done paying homage to the owner and showing some of the Thai culture items. But we don't go for the looks or decor we go because it is nice to be able to chat with your guest and hear or ask the staff how is their family doing. read more

For this side of the river, Thip's is a decent Thai restaurant. It is a small place. Parking is limited. But, the food is worth the visit. I ordered the basil fish and spring rolls. Both were great. I especially like the fish. Strong in flavor and just the correct spice. The fish was a bit over cooked but the sauce and spice made up for it. The young gentleman who waited on us was very pleasant and respectful. He was the only server and did the best to keep up with all the customers. This food was AMAAAAAZING! First and foremost, I'm a vegan and I'm typically leery of eating out and especially Thai. The reviews swayed me. I had the Pad Kee Mao with veggies, spice level 2 and the fried tofu extra crispy. Nat (my waitress) had incredible suggestions and she was patient with me as I ordered. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Mama Tum Yum noodles are a must and you get a very large portion for leftovers!

Food is just okay, but they lie when they say they are open until the time posted. We called ahead and told him we are on our way and they told us to "come on in." When we arrived someone was waiting at the door and saying they were closed (even though closing time wasn't for 30 mins) and we needed to leave. Definitely not something you want to hear when you've loaded the kids in the car to head to a restaurant when they told you to come that way. Being spoilt for aunthentic Thai food in California, we always rely and read the reviews on Yelp prior to coming to restaurant. The food here has an authentic taste to it. We had the pad Thai, the chicken in coconut gravy and somtam. Coming from Asia, we loved our chillies! I find that the highest level of their spicy-ness level was pretty mild. I guess that's to cater more to the majority of the client they served. Which I can't complain. Next time when we come and visit again, we probably ask them to spice it up a little bit more. After moving here for a couple of months now, this is by far our favorite Thai restaurant! read more

Very happy with the food. We aren't from the Midwest and the other Thai places in town had sweeet tasting Thai food, sickly sweet. We tried four different ones before we went to Thip's we are very happy with them. We exclusively bought Thai food, we are vegetarian, so if you buy the Chinese food on their menu we do not know how it tastes. This place is a hidden gem in O'Fallon, IL! I had the cashew chicken in thai chili sauce and it was soooo good! The heat level was right (I had a Level 2 and I like spicy) and the mix of veggies was great! My only critique would be that the chicken was a little tough and the appetizers (crab rangoons and wontons) were so so. The spring rolls were yummy though! They also gave you a condiment tray (which is always a plus) consisting of chili paste, crushed red pepper, crushed peanuts, and spicy little peppers. Very disappointed considering the reviews. Added shrimp to my dish and it was overcooked, dry and hard. Almost tasted pre-boiled. I asked if I switched to beef would it be made fresh and she said no, all the meat is precooked. Well there you go. You want fresh don't come here. read more

I hope that the people that say "this is the best Thai food in Illinois" have not gone to any other place but here. I would say its the most bland Thai food I've ever had in my life. I had the Thai fried rice. The rice was sorta in between steamed and fried. I would call it "limp rice" or something of that nature. I knew right off the bat from the first non-taste of it I would need help getting it down. I thought if I drowned it in soy sauce and extra chili paste I could do it. There was none of either on the table. I waited and waited slowly taking a bite now and then while trying to get the attention of the one lady working in a room of me and one other table. No luck. I chewed ever so slowly praying I could get something on my table to give this some sort of taste. You know those packs the astronauts bring up in space with them? Well if there was Thai Fried Rice in one it would taste like this. Finally I was brought some soy sauce and chili paste which I dumped on it to get it down. Here is a crazy idea if you own a restaurant. Keep commonly used condiments on the table. For instance if you serve burgers, have a bottle of ketchup on the table. Mexican food, a bottle of hot sauce, Thai food, some soy sauce setting on the table would be nice. What's the draw back? Are you afraid im going to steal it? Well maybe so or maybe just stingy with sauce, which would be a good guess judging the amount of sweet and sour that came with the crab Rangoon (which were essentially empty). I was brought a container of sweet and sour 1/11th the way full of sauce. It was like it was dropped on the way out of the kitchen and all of it spilled but a couple of drops and they said "eh that's enough". Not a fan. read more

while there is better thai food around the area, this place is pretty solid. the staff is nice and the atmosphere is pleasant. as for the food, the crab rangoons are pretty awesome and the rice is just as rice should be. the main entree i got was chicken and broccoli from the lunch menu, which was good, but not great. sauce was a bit too spicy for being a level 1 but nothing unbearable. not the best in town, but not necessarily bad. read more

Their service used to be genuinely welcoming and humble with their food, but perhaps with the recent popularity, the quality of their service has gone down quite steeply and not as attentive. Especially, one of the servers (I think she might be the owner's daughter) was very rude and her attitude was very unwelcoming (even from the first sight after we walked in... there weren't any interactions between us). She never had any eye contact, no verbal response nor served water till we asked while we already started eating. My wife and I used to love this place so much that we were very disappointed with the dining experience we had recently. I had the green curry with chicken with 2 star spice level with fried rice, as well as a half order of the egg rolls. The curry was absolutely incredible. Perfect spice level and so fresh. I'm a big Thai food fan and this might be the best green curry I've ever had. The egg rolls were pretty bland. Nothing too special about them. I will go with another side next time just to try new things. I walked in and ordered to-go and it took about 20 minutes, not too bad of a wait for how good it was. I recommend calling ahead if you're short on time. Overall I think this is my new go to Thai restaurant. Price is a little steep but the quality is top notch. read more
