I found the house warm, almost cozy with the velvet and dark colors. The house is in very good shape and it is clean. You get to see all the different rooms, living room, bed room, dining room etc. There is back staircase that the servants used. The other treasure about this museum is the gift shop. I found the gifts unique. Lot of special Christmas ornaments, but other gifts also. Outside the house the grounds are well kept and well designed. There is a fountain and the garden has a circular design to it. It is not substantial enough to travel from afar to visit, but if you are in Fall River, or near, definitely take the tour.

The house itself is gorgeous! I had no idea that there were so many artifacts from the Lizzie Borden trial housed here. We visited the Borden House later that day and as far as actual artifacts, this museum has them all, not the Borden House. If you are interested in the Lizzie Borden trial at all, come here! I also enjoyed the circular dining room and the clothing exhibit upstairs. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the area. It is a treasure trove of information! Also worth noting is the museum gift shop. Fantastic selection of merch. Literally something for everyone. I loved how the gift shop extended upstairs and included items for the bath. My favorite find was the Lizzie Borden paperdolls, complete with the outfits worn at the trial! Solid 5 stars.

I arrived after/hours for the Closing Reception for the participants & was relegated to only 1 room for the event. It was a relatively small space & I'm not sure if there were other rooms. I also can't speak to what kind of art they normally display as I was only there for the event. What I can tell you is that the staff very enthusiastic about the gallery. They were so approachable & full of historical information about the venue. They certainly convinced me to come back at a later date! I was told by one of the patrons that this is one of the most under-appreciated galleries in the state & how they come here monthly. That being said, if you're looking for a museum, this isn't the place for you. But, if you're looking for a place to view local artwork, you should check it out & help support this community gem. An very under appreciated…read more museum A woman that works at the museum told me that the Warwick Museum of Art was voted the most under appreciated Museum in all of Rhode Island. I'm not sure if she told me exactly who did the voting but the statement is easy to believe. The museum is in the cool old Kentish Artillery Armory located right in the center of historic Apponaug. It's a place many people go by every day but probably not many actually stop to visit. Parking on the street is usually impossible and the whole area is a mess. They have been talking about fixing the road forever but probably never will. You have to be a bit creative in finding parking. The museum is more of a cultural center than an actually museum because the emphasis is on the new and not the old and things are always changing. The main display area is one large room and they have about a dozen or so exhibitions a year. Different things by different local artists throughout Rhode Island. A chance to check out the talent in the area. The last time I dropped in the exhibition was art by talented middle school kids and their teachers. Although I have to admit I wasn't very excited when I heard the display was going to be by kids, I was pleasantly surprised. Many very creative and original pieces were present and the talent was obvious. Besides the art shows the museum also has various music, theater, comedy and poetry readings through the year. Things are constantly changing but the one constant is the emphasis on local talent. There is no fee to see the art exhibitions and different prices for the other performances. The Warwick Museum of Art is a small place that offers a lot of different talent. It's a shame that instead of just driving by more people didn't actually take the time to drop in.

The art inside is something you may never see again. You must stop if you are in Newport. The hours were confusing to me, so give a call or look at their web site to see when they are open. The art, all of it, on display is wonderful. Each piece is set perfectly, the lighting perfect and the story behind each piece is fascinating. If you are a Rockwell fan at all, you have to go here. You may think you know Rockwell's but I saw illustrations I had no idea existed, from the cute to the serious to the beauty of telling of a time in US history. The John Rogers sculptures are really something to see. This was my first time noticing his work and I just stood there in awe. Enjoy.

You will not find any works that make you wonder about meaning or whether you are being kidded. No abstraction, no bold geometric designs, no blobs of paint, no pure blacks or reds. You are never in doubt about whether these artists possess real talent. These are all artists who made good money while they were alive! I liked it a lot and I'm glad we just happened upon it. In addition to finding a couple of dozen works by Rockwell, you will see landscapes, beautiful women, handsome men, a few portraits, some excellent caricatures, and a lot of art that became the covers of books and magazines. The gift shop has some impressive quality copies of the art that you can take home for a price. The only negatives I should mention is that no photography is allowed (copyright issues) and sometimes it is hard to read the captions in the darkened rooms. Treat yourself to a different genre of high quality art--this is worth a one to two hour visit.

Bright, small, and intimate, we took a moment to enjoy the art shows. What I discovered was sketch books throughout that you are encouraged to use. I, who have no talent, even enjoyed a few moments of introspection and doodled. My wife, who is very talented, did the same! It's a worthwhile place to visit and support.

Also was able to get information on their children and other aspects about the area. The staff is very friendly and interested in helping you find that missing connection, don't be afraid to ask for help :) The only downside of this place is the state of some of the machines...they are really expensive to replace, so its understandable that some are in bad condition. Just remember to leave your pens at home! Bring some money for the photocopy machines.

The library itself is small once inside but it has lots and lots of microfiche, directories, family histories, etc. You can find RI newspapers going back to 1700s on the fiche. Looking for a dead body? They have a huge database of RI burial grounds / cemeteries and their burials going back to the 1600s - it's how I found a lot of my family bones. They also have a lot of special collections, photos, etc. I was please to be able to read first hand how my great grandfather met Abraham Lincoln along with other members of his regiment during the Civil War, and many other entries made by its regimental officers. They give a first hand account of daily life back then. I think the daily fee is three dollars, but go ahead and just buy a yearly membership to the entire society for $40, and check out all their other programs.
