    Patio

Lovely outdoor patio. Lots of TVs inside. Food is good, but not the place you would take a client to. Wing special is great! The staff is very friendly and efficient, my favourite place to have a pint in Dundas Weeknd have live music. Downside is the bathroom is down a long set of stairs, NOT disabled friendly. And the mens room has needed repair for several months

I am glad I found this place. A cute restaurant at the corner of King Street with old style paper menu which I personally like Being a vegetarian, it is difficult for me to find delicious veg food but this place made my visit to Hamilton extra special. I ordered "Huevos Rancheros Skillet" and modified it to exclude the eggs and add in the jalapenos and trust me when I say, it was heavenly !! The best food I have had in Canada since I have arrived here. I also ordered a chocolate cake which was amazing too and the restaurant offered it to us on the house ! I can't explain how special I felt ! The staff is so polite and cooperative. You guys gave a reason to visit Hamilton again and again ! Thank you so much !

    Jerk chicken tacos

My friend suggested this place as she had just recently been here. We were greeted immediately by a variety of different waiters, which was quite confusing as we had no idea who to place our orders with.. Nevertheless, they were all very friendly, so that was okay. We mainly came here to have a beer and weren't particularly hungry, but decided to try some appetizers. I wanted to order a beer (can't remember the brand), but they had apparently run out since they had a special on yesterday. I wanted another and got the same response, so I opted for a Canadian instead. As for the food, I decided to try their jerk chicken tacos and my friend ordered their antijitos. Now I typically never ordered certain flavours unless I know the restaurant specializes in it. So I'm not quite sure why I went for the jerk chicken here, but I guess I was just really craving it. Unfortunately, I should have followed my rule. The sauce was very salty and it just didn't make sense in a taco. I had a really hard time finishing one taco and left the other two untouched. My friend enjoyed her antijitos, but felt really full quickly as they're quite heavy. The atmosphere was pretty good. The decor is nice and very bar-like with western touches. They also had a live guitarist/singer that evening and he played some nice songs. Overall I enjoyed being there with my friend, but I'm not sure I would come back. I would have to try something very different off their menu. Will update review if I happen to get convinced by my friend again.

The Bang Bang Shrimp had dusted shrimps tossed in Dynamite sauce, drizzled in chipotle mayo, and topped with jalapeño . At first glance, the dish was smaller than I expected but its taste made up for it in the end. I loved the dusted crunchiness of the shrimps drizzled in the chipotle mayo and Dynamite sauce. It was just spicy enough for me and a dish I can see myself craving for every so often. At this time, the server also brought out a bowl of complimentary nachos covered with cheese. Yay! These were just regular nachos with melted processed cheese but I really liked it. It went so well with the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer to break up the spiciness. I placed some of the jalapeños on the nachos to eat too and it was such a tasty combination!

Good place for drinks. Food is secondary. Very run down. Would be nice if they offered a more elevated selection of Mexican food.

Most placed I'd been to had small selections of their own beer, but to me you have to really diversity to get to that 50 plateau and I was right. 50+ beers from all over (even back home). Steady changing selections of all craft, some local, but as varied as anyone can get around here. It's dark, small, warm, cozy, inviting, but ultimately weird. Hipster AF. I was glad to see some classic cocktails on the menu which I also tried, but there is a weird bottle neck at the chalkboard as it narrows to the bar opening which makes ordering just awkward if the bar itself isn't open. They do an interesting thing asking for your name instead of tabbing you via a card to hold, but that also doesn't seem to be a Canadian thing like it is back in the States. My pisco sour was excellent, fresh juice, fresh egg white, well shaken, though I'm more a fan of metal on metal and I'm starting to think kold-draft is a luxury as many places simply don't have it. Kold draft or even 2+ inch molded ice has a very unique clang that I like. Ultimately bad if your shaking with glass though. My friends had a few lagers and ales which Hamilton is more known for than IPA's. We sat at the back where it was quite and we could hear ourselves instead of shouting over people. They have board games which I imagine is great fun and even a back patio which I imagine goes off in the summer. The staff are friendly and pretty knowledgeable, but I'd have like to seem a little more eye in the sky control, in that regard it's more barista than bar. On any given night here you'll hear conversations of beard oil, compost, prius', and other hipster topics. It's quietly romantic and dark so no one will bother you whatever your opinions are. If a Portland hipster mated with a San Francisco hipster, The Brain would be their baby.

And when I say "pub food"…read moreI'm not talking about typical English fare -- you won't find meat pies, coddles, or bangers & mash. What you will find is some of the best burgers and southern BBQ style sandwiches you'll ever taste anywhere. It's been a long-time coming, but it's been well worth the wait. A year ago the food was sub-par at best -- the kitchen being run by myriad of transient cooks and part-time university students. Now the kitchen is run by the skilled chef, Sean Bryan, who knows what flavor is and isn't afraid to experiment. Sean's burgers are fresh made. Nothing frozen here, and nothing boring. I mean, if you want just a basic cheeseburger, you'll get the best damn cheeseburger you ever had, but if you want to experiment with something creative and jam-packed with flavor, just order one of Sean's hamburger creations; you'll feel like you've been transported to New Orleans with a spicy slug to the taste buds, or sent to a backyard BBQ somewhere along the Mississippi with a bucketful of smokey tangy goodness. You'll be drooling for more, repeatedly. From wicked hot suicide chicken wings to multinational Mexican spring rolls, from smokey pulled pork sandwiches to fresh-cut french fries, West End Pub & Grill is a must-experience destination. It's off the beaten path to be sure, but well worth the effort to get there. If you're craving top-shelf food at a reasonable price -- go straight to the West End.
