We enjoyed a visit to Thirsty Eye on a recent trip to ABQ. The brewery made my short list of must-see spots because of both the adjoining art gallery and the promise of a rye-juniper beer! I was disappointed on neither front. A band had just finished up a set on the small stage when we arrived. We grabbed a couple barstools, and as the band packed up some of their fans cleared out, leaving the place nearly empty for awhile. Then another wave of patrons came in, filling up the room once again. The bartender was friendly and helpful, sharing the brewing company's story and highlighting some special beers. We shared several, and Odin's Eye--that rye-juniper ale--was my favorite. Rented Tux is a smooth vanilla porter, and Father O'Malley's Holy Water, an Irish dry stout, was tasty as well. The art gallery was locked up when we checked, but the bartender opened it up and assured us we could stay as long as we wanted. What a treat! read more

Juanita (the band) was playing Friday so off we went to the Thirsty Eye because we're fans of Debo. The outside of the building is modest, nondescript but walk in and WOW, nice indeed. White walls warmed up with several large paintings and a blonde wood bar, comfortable bar stools and several high tops, all sleek and minimalist without feeling sterile. Nice selection of beers and ales plus some New Mexican brand canned cocktails. AND espresso, a selection of black teas, a hibiscus/lavender kombucha and a N.A. beer. How's that for rounding things out? Friendly bartenders, nice crowd with a mix of ages and persuasions, a patio out back with more art and needless to say a really terrific band. read more

Early for meeting friends, I stopped at Thirsty Eye for a frosty beverage. I stayed for about an hour, enjoying their chips and salsa and a second beer. Visiting as we pass through town and thought we'd get a flight at a brewery close to our hotel. The second we walked in, the vibe was super weird. Music was so low and it was so quiet that it was uncomfortable to talk. We felt judged the second we walked in, and to our surprise it was poetry night where the locals called us out for being tourists, making it even more awkward. This space is really cool! I love the art and how opened the space is. I love the outdoor patio in the back. Can't wait for the warm weather and try out the patio. Today we had a flight of beers and one kombucha. Everything had a little after taste like plastic. I'm not sure if it's because the lines for the taps are brand new and you can taste the plastic on the backend. Just off Central and Broadway this brewery is a great find for the quiet area that is slowly growing with places to eat and drink nearby. The Mexican lager is my favorite served with a lime. It's 4.5%ABV and taste smooth. Only $5 for a 10 Oz. Tonight there was a band playing with a jazz and hipster feel to it. About 10 different beers to choose from. They range from IPA to Red Ale. This is a very nice brewery, cafe with an arts vibe. The art hanging on the walls makes for good conversation and on the evening we visited the Jazz band was delightful. Take the trek to ABQ proper and you'll find a new Tavern gem. The Thirsty Eye lives up to its name. They brew a wicked batch of good beers. My fav is the Maibock, 7.2% lager. This lager has a nice strong finish. My bartenders Amelia and Amanda are sweet knowledgable pros. This could easily become my go too when visiting the Duke City. I visited this location after work one day last week and was surprised at just how much I loved it. I ordered an iced soy mocha and the lovely barista, Camilla (I'm sorry if I spelled that wrong) was so helpful and attentive. I sat down to work in this beautiful space- the vibe is not at all pretentious like some coffee shops can be, and not overly hipster, but it was classy, eclectic, artsy, and professional. The next barista who took over was Amelia and she was equally wonderful! The mocha was hands-down the best one I've had anywhere in the states. I savored every sip. The brewery is very lively, and the attached art gallery is amazing! We went on a YES event, and it was great! A food truck, Vamos con Gloria, with wonderful tacos, etc was there to provide sustenance, and a live DJ added to the fun. The tacos were amazing, perfectly seasoned and cooked meat and beans, flavorful, but not too spicy. Then you add the salsas, red and/or green, and you can kick up the heat very high! I'm a native NM who likes it hot, and I was pleased. They have a brewery club membership which provides $1 off pints, $2 off growler fills, and a free pint on your birthday. I tasted several IPAs and a red, and the red was my match. I'm looking forward to future visits to enjoy the various beers and rotating art exhibits. I'm a dark beer drinker. Not going to hide it. Not going to deny it. Being a dark beer drinker in New Mexico can be tough, because we like our IPA's, so sometimes I'm a misfit at the local breweries, but not at Thirsty Eye! They appeal to the masses. They have 3 beers I'd like to highlight: Rented Tux, a vanilla porter that as soon as it hits your nose makes you crave cake to go along with its deliciousness; Moonracer, a chocolate oatmeal stout that isn't hard or sharp on the palate, but a perfect chocolatey finish with a smooth body; and their seasonal Biscochito Líquido made with anise and cinnamon that will make any Burqueño crave their abuelita's cookies. We had phenomenal service. While we sat in front of the vats, dreaming of brews, and waiting for our turn in line, someone came to us to take our order! We checked out the gallery next door with some eclectic, thoughtful art. Icing on the cake: a food truck was outside with insanely good tacos (Vamos con Gloria). Really good beer, great service! The patio is one of the best in Albuquerque. It is in the back of the building with cool art and plenty of shade. A good place for an afternoon beer and the read a book or have one on one conversation. The music isn't super load like other places and a laid back playlist. They opened right as COVID hit. Another great addition to Albuquerque's craft brewery scene, this place is coming out of the gates swinging on nearly every front, as far as I'm concerned: + Venue: Honestly delightful, sort of a Zendo/Sidetrack hybrid -- because it's both brewery and cafe -- very bright within, beaming with smart art, communal seating and a wide bar. In back, a patio connects the place to an art gallery that I've yet to explore, can't wait. + Beer: Whoa, it isn't supposed to be this good this early on. Like many new spots around town, I could care less that their IPAs don't quite nail it -- this city has plenty of hops -- and literally everything else I tried was good or straight up great, like the sneaky Gourd ale with pumpkin and, somehow, cranberry. The menu also features sours, kombucha, and ciders, many of them guest pours. + Cafe: I can't speak to the overall quality -- it was beer o'clock, folks -- but they're sourcing pretty good beans from local roasters. + Food: Nothin' but food trucks, yet, so plan accordingly. + Staff: Likely what will keep me coming back, and that isn't only because they let me sample literally everything they were pouring. This may be my new watering hole. I have a few friends that are sober now, and this is the place that makes them feel the most included when I want a drink. They have beer, kombucha, and a full coffee bar. They have their own beers plus many other local taps. And champagne. I've been on a sparkling wine kick lately, and I love I can purchase a split here, plus they serve it with the cutest little fruit skewers. I'm an artist by trade so I love that it's also an art gallery. Like, really love it. And this is some well curated, gallery quality art. One of my old instructors has a legit piece here right now. Great atmosphere and amazing staff! All were welcoming and friendly, giving tips on local hot spots! The beers were great compared to more well known breweries in the area and we were able to talk to the brewer himself! We were able to explore the connecting art gallery while enjoying beers brewed in house. Definitely a must go if you are visiting. read more

Staff was absolutely terrific. Answered all of our questions. We are Trivia enthusiasts and they have it the first Tuesday of the month. Can hardly wait...movie themes. For a first event this was fun and I was surprised how tasty the beer was and I recommend the Ojo Rojo. I felt the Vanilla Porter was not as awesome but still super good for a new brewery. The food truck was where this event shined for me. Wow. Vamos con Gloria is my new favorite food truck right now! Those tacos were amazing!!! The coffe was also a high point and I loved the art walk and outside area for communing. My true opinion on this business is there are a lot of irons in the fire here which could do two things...stay fun exciting (try to always have performances and music) also the great part is that it covers all the bases; non-drinkers, gluten free options, and art OR it can be too much in one location and bomb out!!! I did get a weird vibe from the venue it's self; in the future you'll need to be in another location or remodel this one so it isn't like a maze. That is unappealing. I felt like I was in building with separate businesses lumped together. Definitely a cool hidden gem brewery. Nice patio. Pre Covid shutdown they had a fire pit and heaters to keep guests warm. I was excited because they offered a seltzer that I could add in my own flavors. My husband enjoyed the beers on tap. Pretty neat spot. read more

Not sure if the beer is any good but we had a brief, unfortunate, family outing here. My husband, myself and our two kids came in to check the place out. We ordered (a beer for each of us and snacks for the kids). As the bartender poured our beers, our 3.5 year old vomited (because sometimes kids just puke). I ran out with her and her poor puke covered self and signaled to my hubs that we should leave. As he was scooping up our other toddler and trying to clean up the mess, the bartender 1) acted horrified and was very rude and 2) charged us for the beers. $14 for a family fail in which some compassion would have gone a long way. read more

Very nice bar layout inside. Their beer is on par with the rest of the microbreweries in town except for the Rented Tux Vanilla Porter. This porter is, in my opinion, not only the best porter available from one of our fine local breweries, it is the best ale available. Just my opinion but try it for yourself. There are many great breweries in the Duke City. This one deserves a gander for sure. They don't serve food but they do have snacks. They focus on their brew here, and it shows. read more
