I left to do a few errands only to have the power steering go on my return trip home. I thought if I phoned AAA they would definitely come and end up towing the car - leaving me stranded and of all times it was the holiday .. So I thought, just try to get home. If it goes completely at least you will be closer. So I proceeded to drive VERY slowly without taking any turns .... Try that sometime! Haha I got back safely but was unsuccessful parking it... Anyone who saw it would definitely think I'd had some type of liquid lunch ... Tuesday morning I phoned the closest repair shop to me - which is Main St Auto..it's very close but with my health being what it is now too far for me to walk. Rami asked if I could get the car there but not to worry - he would help me get back home. How kind is that! With all the muscle I've got I managed to get the into his parking area. He explained he would go over it and call me. He was truthful in that the actual work probably wouldn't be completed the same day... I saw how busy they are and definitely understood. I was just grateful I could get the car there & the opportunity to have what was wrong repaired. And just as he said, he gave me a ride back to where I live..... He phoned later in the day with the diagnosis along with an estimate of the cost. I felt the price quoted was definitely fair. So yesterday late morning he called and said it was all set. Then asked if I needed a ride to pick it up - I did. He was here within 10 minutes with my car. We drove back, settled the bill and I drove back home - steering perfectly. I came here for an inspection on a Wednesday afternoon, which was easy enough and didn't take too…read morelong. I asked if an oil change could be done at the same time. I was told they didn't have time for an oil change that day but I could bring my car back Saturday at 8am. I brought my car back at that time and waited 15-20 minutes just for someone to take my keys since they usually don't have someone at the front desk. I almost left before that and in retrospect I wish I did. I thought since I was bringing my car in early in the morning I wouldn't have to wait long for the oil change, but apparently they were busy with inspections and other things already. I initially planned on waiting but I decided to leave and come back. I'm glad I did because I got called 4.5 hours later saying my car was ready. The total cost was about $125 ($45 for labor, $70 for parts, plus taxes) which is highway robbery (which I suppose is fitting in some way given the location on 125 on the way to I-93). I don't think I've ever paid that much when I asked for just an oil change anywhere else. I won't be coming back here.
