The employees need to improve their communication skills. Very much lacking in empathy.

My review balances out at a 3 after two visits to the emergency department…read more I had the unfortunate experience of sustaining a back fracture after a fall on ice during a visit to Burlington. The first visit was great. The doctors made sure my pain was adequately cared for and all was well. However, after waking up the next morning, my pain had worsened to where the medication wasn't working anymore, so I did what I was instructed to do and returned to the emergency dept. well, this set of doctors acted like they were hired to play detective. Instead of reading my history and asking the normal questions, it felt more like a whodunnit interview. Questions such as why I'm visiting Vermont are NOT relevant to the fact I sustained an injury for which I was seeking treatment. Not everyone that steps in your doors is a drug seeking faker so perhaps treating patients as if they're human and have a genuine concern at hand may get you farther. Your odds based on my experience: 50/50 chance of being treated like a respected citizen if you're in pain. 50/50 chance of being treated like a homeless addict. Odds apparently vary if you're a tourist. Though I am unsure if that was to my favor or not. Just be prepared for possible questions not even remotely related to the reason you came in to the ER

Everyone who came into the room over the days were so respectful and caring. Even in the final days when my mother could no longer communicate, staff spoke to her just like she was still with us. It was also so touching to receive a call from palliative care a couple of days after she had passed to ask how I was doing. Can't say enough about the great care.

My regular Physician recently moved out of state and I found myself once again having to find a…read moreDoctor that I could trust as well as staff. I am so blessed to have Dr. Rachael Humphrey as my primary care physician. She is smart, attentive and caring! There is nothing worse than having a Dr. who's ego is inflated and she is just the opposite. The nurse was also very caring and considerate,as well as the front desk person, Phyllis, who helped me get the paperwork I needed to have Dr. Humphry fill out for me. I highly recommend this practice!

First - the charges are excessive: any visit starts at $190, and that's with any random provider, like a nurse-practitoner. And to even get in, you get a 'registration' call to feed in to Corporate Headquarters all the info that what was formerly your 'medical home' already knows about you. Or did, when it was actually a functional Family Practice. The typical encounter with family doc who actually KNEW THE FAMILY is now a 10-minute 'McVisit' with whoever's available- Listening to an asthmatic child's lungs OVER her clothing. And anything after that - even if you ask a question and actually talk about a problem - is an extra charge (or 'code') - so that a 5-minute procedure using syringe of warm water to get ear wax out of a kid's ear is BILLED AT $375! it's a SURGICAL PROCEDURE. A 'required' pre-op visit for an orthopedic procedure - mostly for the sake of paperwork - is close to $1000. We are waiting to see the cost of the EKG. Then! we get a call from a Hinesburg Family Health office person who says "Dr. Ulager says it's time to schedule the patient's colonoscopy." Had Dr. Ulager actually looked at the patient's chart, he might have seen that scheduling a colonoscopy is a totally inappropriate concern in the face of a major orthopedic procedure. This is NOT patient-centered care. Meanwhile, all the evidence is coming out AGAINST costly, ineffective, and routine screenings of all kind, INCLUDING colonoscopy, mammography, prostate-specific antigen, etc. But the simple effective procedures (that family docs used to do - hemoccult stool test, thorough breast exam, prostate check) are never ever done. God forbid you should actually ever touch or interact with a patient. This is corporate welfare - not patient-centered care. John Brumsted and his men should come out and see what's happening on the ground, and get some actual patient feedback data on the cost of all this. I am writing this as a doctor trained at UVM and regretful that the practice of medicine has become 'the health care industry.' We had an excellent family practice group here before FAHC bought it out. Now it is just McMedicine.
