Wonderfully well kept wide trails for running, biking, walking your dog. Gorgeous morning today with a clear view of the snow capped mountains. People are friendly and greet each other as we pass. It's an easy long trail, relatively flat. If you follow it far enough you can get to the Claremont wilderness loop which is 5 miles and has done great elevation gain. read more

Really nice road trail! It is located on the way to Mount Baldy. Located in a great area, very clean, paved and they offer pay per use parking. But just be aware, they warn about bobcat sightings. Which I mean, well yeah it is their home too. read more

Beautiful hidden trail! Street parking on a first come first serve basis. This is a great trail for beginners because you can take a flat paved path or you can go upon the hills. Really good family environment and safe place to take your pets. read more

I did this hike today. Apparently there are two different ways to go but I went to the left which seems to be more of a zigzag direction. This is my first hike back after knee surgery in October. It's not too bad it does have 16 parts but I felt good that I made it up to the tower. Apparently all these trails eventually connect to the Claremont? I don't know? I only went for a short hike to the tower and back. I'm not sure how far that is I'm guessing maybe 2 miles? Other than that it was nice and there was lots of people there with their dogs. We even saw two deer eating and lounging across from that class that you walk along in order to get to the actual start of the hike. I will be back I just love the fact that it wasn't crowded by there cause I know the Claremont loop to get pretty packed. read more

WAYWAYWAYYY Too many power lines. I don't understand why the entrance and beginning you need to walk directly under large buzzing power lines. You can actually hear the buzzing sound, makes you sick. I would not take any small children or dogs here. Even the parking lot is one big power line! read more

This is a nice trail ( paved & packed dirt ) to enjoy a walk, run or ride a bike. The trail is pet friendly ( please be responsible for your pet: clean up their waste and keep them on a leash ). A convenient parking lot at the end of N. Indian Hill Rd and the trail begins. We crossed over the spillway to the right and headed toward Johnson's Pasture. It was a relatively steep trail, but completely doable. Great views of the mountains, warnings of mountain lions and rattlesnakes, but we did not encounter many. Seems to be popular for local families, but fun for first-timers in the area. Pleasant playground with toilet facilities to the left of this trail head. read more

If you don't feel like getting your ass kicked by the infamous 5 mile loop, but still want to take a nice brisk walk, jog, bike ride, etc...then this is the trail for you. It was a nice cool day today so me and my husband and our dog went out for a walk on the trail. It was relaxing, yet we kept up the pace to make sure our hearts were getting a work out. I'll probably jog it next time as I saw a few people do. The whole trail is about 5 miles round trip. Took us about 1hour and 1/2 to do a brisk steady walk. We stopped a few times for a minute to let out dog relieve itself. Overall, I like it a lot. read more

Thompson Creek Trail is a nice paved trailed along a flooding channel. You can access the trail by many points off of Base Line, but I prefer access from Indian Hill. There is plenty of parking at the La Puerta Sports Park. The trail is about 2.0-2.1 miles give or take one way. You'll see walkers, runner, people with their dogs and sometimes even some scouts on a wilderness adventure. I don't think you'll find a snipe on this trail though. There are some water fountains and benches along the trail courtesy of the Rotary Club. Part of the trail will take you through Higgambothum Park (sp) and behind the back yards of some cool ranch homes with horses. Not a lot of vegetation or animals here besides your random lizard and doggies that people are taking for walks. read more

This trail is a great little trail to run/walk on. Perfect for animals. It runs along the backside of houses... which had a load of horses & even one house had a whole farm minus the cow (sheep, goat, ckns, etc.). I would love to bring Evan, my 3 year old. It's short enough for him to walk/ride along comfortably. People are totally friendly & you are busy saying hello & good mornings. There are a bunch of doggy poop bag stations... awesome! read more

If you're looking for a peaceful walk/run/bike ride before or after work, this is your spot! I tried it out for the first time today and my dog and I loved it. It's clean and well-maintained. I noticed there were TONS of hummingbird in certain areas which was lovely. The people on the trail were all so friendly by saying hello in passing. The further west you go I noticed the scenery gets a little boring so stick to the western side of the trail and you should be happy. I parked at the Indian Hill entrance and did a little 2 mile looped. Loved it! read more

If you want an extra challenge after hiking/running the Claremont loop, Thompson Trail is great! It's pretty scenic with plenty of water fountains and even a park in the middle of the trail. I love running this trail because it's relatively "easy" after having my butt kicked on the Claremont loop. Everyone of all ages AND their cute pets on this trail :) read more

This is a nice paved path you can bring your bike to. I think it's a mile or 2 with 3 parking lots at different sections of this trail. I did notice a split off you can take and do a nice Mountain climb on a dirt path. There's a ranch property behind this trail with horses on it, and we ran into a couple of them riding the trail. The most loving horses I have ever encountered licking our hands and giving kisses to my little girls face. I never seen a horse act so friendly with strangers before. If you do end up biking this trail you can head up a paved path off this one just going passed the north parking lot and ride up Mt. Baldy road to get a leg burning workout if you want to get more miles in. When we pulled into the parking lot we wanted to try a different trail further up the Mountain but it was closed off, I"m assuming from the rains. You do have to pay to park at the north parking lot but the middle section parking lot backs to homes there seems to be no charge there. read more

The trail closes at 4 p.m. in the "winter." Claremont Police have given out tickets lately (late Oct. 2013), and it's a $50 fine, so watch your time. It's a nice walk -- the best sight when we went was a dad towing his kid--about 11--uphill, kid sitting on skateboard. They vanished up toward the Mills Ave. end, the high end. 15 minutes later the kid comes tearing downhill from Mills, still sitting on the skateboard, whips past us at speed and disappears around a bend. This wouldn't be my first pick for a hike, but if I was in the area and the Claremont Hills Wilderness Trail is closed, I would definitely get my workout on this trail. This trail is completely paved and is a slight ascent or descent depending on which direction you go. The trail is very low maintenance so there really shouldn't be an issue with cleanliness and there isn't that I have seen. There are plenty of people who frequent this trail so there is no shortage of people to pass. I prefer hiking that is more of a challenge as opposed to a nice stroll. The paved trail is great for people of all ages who aren't looking to stare at the ground looking for where to put their next step which makes this perfect form people looking to take a walk with friends or have a nice walk alone with their thoughts. Overall, it is a great place to go, but it is just not my cup of tea. There's nothing bad about it but there isn't anything great about it either in my opinion. read more

If your not in the mood to do the loop hike this is still a good work out, of course at a fast pace. Came here for the first time couple week's ago. Did a total of 5miles, Im not sure how long it goes. The trail is on pavement and dirt, its some what of a windy but on flat surface. No challenge unless you get a little creative yourself. I have walked this trail a few times with family, friends and my dogs. Its a pretty easy walk, lots of children and babies in strollers and seniors staying fit come here regularly. Over all its a nice walk, run, bike ride or horse back ride. However, I have noticed in the last month a lot more pit bulls have been taken there. I dont generally dislike pit bulls, but just a couple of weeks ago a pit bull tried to attack me and my dog as we walked past. Before approaching I put my dog on my right side and asked the pits owner if it was safe to cross she said yes please just go. Her dog was to strong for her dragging her on her ass on the paved road as her pit bull went for my dogs neck. I just barely pulled my dog out of reach and continued to walk away. Thankfully a jogger stopped to help hold back the pit. I did take my dog back a few more times but i couldn't shake the feeling of the possibility of another dog attack. If you take your dogs please be sure you can control them at all times and if need be protect them. read more

5 Miles? No problem, give me 2 hours and I'll be done walking at a slow pace. Definitely a great view on top and a nice creek right next to it. Nice trails for bikers also. They also have porta-potty before the trails in case you need to go, don't expect any water to wash your hands. Bring sanitizer! read more

I take this trail when I want to go for a nice brisk walk. It's a little inclined here and there and shaded in some parts so it makes for a nice leaisurely walk or run. It's well populated enough to feel safe but not crowded. I love it. read more
