One thing I will mention is the garbage cans were overflowing and garbage bags were on the ground which was disappointing and my only complaint. It's a great place to bring lunch and eat under the gazebo by the lake. Lovely!

There are even a small number of campsites that can be reserved during certain times of the year. There are also large playing fields that host tournaments throughout the year for baseball, soccer, lacrosse, etc., and rowing regattas are hosted on the lake. At 3.9 square miles, Mercer County Park is a whopping 1.7% of the total acreage in all of Mercer County. The NE portion of the park is part that I like best, as it's also the part that gets the least amount of traffic, with the only folks you see being people walking the trails, birdwatchers and BMX bike riders. I wouldn't advise taking a gravel bike on the paths in this part of the park. I used to come here often with my bike, but now I'm also enjoying the trails on foot. If you're a road bike owner who's just looking for a short ride, the paved paths that run the length of the park, and the broad shoulder of the main road offer a good conditions for a road bike, but you'll need to look elsewhere for a longer, challenging ride. Also, I've yet to encounter the entitled dog owners who think that the leash regulations don't apply to them. I'm sure that they're out there, but perhaps they're not as common as they are at places like Mercer Meadows or Mountain Lakes--fingers crossed.

Perrineville Lake Park is perfect for this type of outing. Leashed dogs are allowed on all the trails and on this trip we took the pretty Lakeside Loop trail around the lake through fields and woods. We recommend wearing a waterproof sneaker or hiking boot as some of the trail is grassy and wet, and other parts are dirt/gravel. There are no buildings and just 1 portable toilet available. NJ truly has beautiful parks for all abilities and bringing your dog along will make it that much more special. This is a very beginner friendly hike and it is right in my backyard…read more My area was gifted with beautiful weather this past weekend so I wanted to take advantage of the sun and explore some new trails in the area. This is within a mile of my apartment and is about 2.3 miles in length. Overall I recommend this trail if you are looking for something relatively flat and easy. It is not very long but is one straight line. So consider how far you want to walk. If you want the full length of the trail and back, you are walking close to 5 miles. It took me about 45 minutes to walk one way. But I also brought my camera along to stop and take some pictures along the way. Not super scenic as you are walking behind a few different apartment complexes. But you are walking along a really pretty body of water for most of it. So, there is some fun wildlife lingering around. All harmless. Another thing to note. I would definitely wear sneakers, and maybe a pair you don't mind getting dirty. While most of this trail is paved, there are some spots that are not and could potentially get muddy depending on the weather that week. I loved this hike and will definitely be coming back soon.

Only issue is I have is that the lot you park in has pot holes that you might drive over. These should be fixed by Plainsboro parks and recreation department. Another issue is that there is no building for a restroom. You have to use the port-a-pottie in the parking lot, which isn't ideal.
