Thorncreek has undergone some seriously lovely renovations since the last time I was here. I attended an outdoor wedding here and was absolutely blown away by the venue physically. The lush landscaping, thoughtful indoor and outdoor seating, and open air concept made for a stunning environment. I still love Thorncreek's wine. It may be my favorite suburban winery. The Aurora Cream Red is outstanding, and I'm someone who never orders red wine. My second favorite is definitely the Riesling. When I sip Thorncreek wine, I know it's Thorncreek. I was very hesitant about being here for a small outdoor wedding but the staff did an incredible job with safety protocols and I really appreciated that. There was no way I could miss this specific wedding. I loved the variety of outdoor seating to spread out, get comfortable and have a glass of wine safely. I can't wait to revisit Thorncreek again after the pandemic to really enjoy more thorough wine tastings. read more

Had dinner outside while a wedding party was inside. Staff seemed to handle both activities. Not really a 'winery' as much as a restaurant. Food was good and fresh. Wine variety was interesting and we tried the flights. Beautiful atmosphere on a nice weather day. Rain would be a problem as there is no cover. There is inside seating if no event booked. read more

If for some reason you don't like food or wine, you still need to come here for the views. Whether inside or out this place is charming and well decorated. As an added bonus for the day I stopped in for Sunday brunch, there were left over flowers from a wedding they hosted the night before. Now don't get me wrong the food and wine are great too, but the atmosphere is tops. For brunch I got the turkey and cheese mini quiches and 5 sample sizes of a variety of their wines. A lovely, cozy upscale winery with a nice portfolio of wine. Lots of wood, ethereal landscape paintings and a small bar within. They also have a down stairs cellar/dining area for large parties. Bottles can be purchased to go. The food was great, service friendly and efficient. I ordered a TC Old Fashioned which featured house infused cherry bourbon. It was well made. We also ordered a bottle of the Aurora Red, a sweet red blend. It was very smooth, easy drinking. The local cheeseboard and tuna were both great. The surrounding outdoor area is landscaped by their own professional crew. Simply stunning! Will be returning. read more

This winery is on the Canal Wine Trail in Ohio. It's in a different direction than the others. They're separated by distance. We were in the area and seen they were having brunch. We stopped, and to try the wine out. The food was absolutely amazing. My son and I both had the chicken and waffles. My wife's food was delicious as well. It was the perfect amount compared to way too much. The place was very delightful and cozy inside. Review my photos to get a good understanding of this place. The wine that we tried was really good. We purchased 6 bottles of wine to go. Well worth it. Little more but it was worth it. They purchased the juice from California, and make the wine locally for some of there wine. Others they get the juice from Ohio but also have there own vineyard 10 miles from the property. We plan to come back and visit in the summer when the weather is nicer. Enjoyed a nice indoor dinner in March here with my mom. This place is absolutely beautiful even when the outside is covered with snow, you can tell that it is something to see. Newly renovated indoor area does not disappoint. Enjoyed their cream white wine and have been thinking about it ever since. My mom tried a couple different red options and enjoyed them as well. We got the chowder soup I would pass on that if I were you could use more seasoning. We got the meat tray and that was plenty for 2 people and had alot on it. Our server was very nice and attentive. This place is gorgeous!! I originally had this place bookmarked because it's a winery and well, I wanted to try the wine. I had no idea the grounds were so beautiful! Our waitress even told us all about the place and how we needed to go walk around and we could take as many pictures as we wanted. The other great thing about this place, they have brunch on Sundays! The wine is served in a sample size, glass or by the bottle. They have 2 premade flights you can order from or if you're like me and love reds, you can just order a bunch of sample sizes separately. They have a variety of sweet and dry wines. My favorite that I tried was the Pinot Noir. The brunch menu had changed slightly from what was posted online but they do seasonal menus (yay)! Instead of having the Frittata they had a puff pastry filled with the same fillings. The dish actually was 3 egg puff pastries! They were delicious and I ate all three. I will be back in the spring/summer so that I can enjoy the beautiful patio and try out their dinner menu. read more

We came here last night to celebrate my graduation. The ambiance, waitress, food and wine were all amazing!!!! HOWEVER the manager was EXTREMELY EXTREMELY nasty. He was so deliberately rude to a group of girls that chose his establishment to take pictures for prom. All he cared about was them standing on the grass (omg it was fake) and was literally going to cause a big uproar because of it. I was so uncomfortable and had secondhand embarrassment the entire time from that. He does not need to be a manager at all, he doesn't know how to speak to people. read more

Abstract: beautiful grounds and great wine. Thorncreek Winery is tucked back on Treat road in Aurora. The area surrounding is overgrown woods and neighborhoods. Continuing down the road you wouldn't expect this beautiful vineyard to be back here. The owner has turned wetlands into a beautiful winery where he treats it like a home to the community. The winery has many spaces within for people to walk around and sit. The gardens are filled with flowers you don't usually see. Everything is very throughout out. One garden is even completely recycled, nothing being purchased. They hold many events throughout the year such as yappy hour and wine fest. Something unique about this place is how you can just walk around. They even offer to take you down to the cellar where they make and store the wine. They offer good food to pair with their variety of wines. They have a great combination of reds, whites, and blushes. The bottles they sell are labeled right at the winery. It's a great place for a date night or hanging out with friends. It's a unique spot in Aurora that should be highlighted! read more

Happened upon this hidden gem on accident. It was a pleasant surprise, while it was a busy day. They were having an event and they were not offering happy hour. There were vendors outside and food. The wine choices were nice. We did a flight, which I truly enjoyed. I hated we didnt get more attention from the bar tender however he was swamped. I had to beg for a glass instead of plastic d/t the event. He did give me one, although he was not happy about it. We walked the ground which were very very nice and clean. We visited many of the vendors there for the event and walked away with a few purchases. I would love to go when there isn't an event to get the full feel of the place. My family and I are avid winery go-ers and love trying new wineries. We just left here not too long ago. While the food and wine as well as the property were amazing, the managing staff was not. Some guy who is an 'owner' or does the landscaping was SO TERRIBLY RUDE. Some kind people chose this place to take prom pictures and this man proceeds to tell them multiple times to not step on the grass by saying things like 'are you kidding me?' 'Get off the grass' and 'Really!?' It was so disgusting and we immediately felt horrible for this group of people. Like, ITS GRASS. So, even though the ambiance, waitress and food was great, im afraid that I do not recommend this place and now have a bad taste in my mouth about this. Not acceptable. So unless you want to admire the scenery from afar, don't go here. read more

Great selection of wines, and the entire indoor and outdoor spaces have a ton of rustic character. We sat on the "terrace" which was probably the worst place to sit in the entire facility. It was basically a hot box under a tent. But the outdoor patio and the inside looked like much better places to spend an evening. We ordered the blush wine, which was a perfect blend of sweet and dry for a summer wine, and shared the jarlsberg chicken dip and fish sliders. Both tasted excellent, but the food was very expensive - overpriced even. I'd also recommend bringing your last glass of wine with you for a stroll through the gardens. read more

A girlfriend and I attended Wine Wednesday, and we enjoyed our evening. The grounds and indoor space are beautiful! The winery opens at 5. We arrived at 5:30, and there were maybe 10 other people total. The space was clean, and there was plenty of space For social distancing. We were seated at a cozy table and there was a limited menu available. There were approximately 8 to 10 wines, a mix of red and white. The only food available was called a party box which was meat, cheese, crackers,a few nuts, olives, honey and grapes. The box was large enough to share. Neither my girlfriend nor myself eat beef or pork so we did ask that the box contain all cheese no meat, which was easily accommodated. The box was a bit pricey at $22. But we didn't have much of a choice because this was the only item available. I would have loved to have seen at least a few flat bread pizzas, or veggies & dip. We each ordered a glass of wine, I ordered the cream white and she ordered the riesling. We each enjoyed our choices, and they were reasonably priced at $6 per glass. We enjoyed our leisurely evening out. The staff was very welcoming, and Once again the grounds were absolutely stunning.. I would absolutely return. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with brunch here for my birthday. To be completely honest, I was very skeptical pulling up to the place, as I am not a wine drinker and neither is he. I had never heard of this winery either, so this was all new to me. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the rustic, beautiful decor and perfect landscaping. That immediately dispelled my skepticism and I then began to look forward to the rest of the experience. Since it was nice outside, we decided to sit outside and we were some of the first people that arrived for brunch so we had the whole place to ourselves. The fountain we sat next to was so relaxing and the whole atmosphere was very romantic. Definitely perfect for a date with your significant other! Now onto the important part of the review: the food and drinks! We split a carafe of mimosas, which were made perfectly with good quality orange juice, and only $15. We got 4 drinks total out of it, so that is a great deal, and served properly in champagne flutes. Our server, Lydian, was wonderful and had a great personality! I was torn between a few dishes, but per her recommendation, I decided on the chicken & waffles. They were the best I've ever had, these are a must! The chicken had light breading and wasn't too heavy, perfect for early in the day. And the waffles!! Wow!! They were sweet and tasted like the fried ones you get at a fair, sooo tasty. I 100% recommend this dish. My man got the flatbread of the day, which was loaded with steak, cheese, basil, and sunny side eggs on top! I helped him out and had a slice and I really liked it too! And it was more like a full pizza than a flatbread, so that was definitely a great value! After eating, we did a mini walk around the outside and it is an absolutely beautiful venue for special events. This is probably my favorite brunch spot that I have ever been to now. The staff was extremely friendly, service was excellent, atmosphere was beautiful, food and drinks were excellent, and an overall unique experience. I definitely would love to come back here. Really beautiful place. Was there for a charity event last night, and was taken aback by how amazing the landscape is! However, the service was definitely sub par. It was meant to be a tasting event, but when people requested a larger glass of wine, the servers were incredibly rude and refused. Needless to say, they would've been making more money by pouring more, but they were bold enough to even refuse service to some people. The food was delicious, but the plates were about the size of the palm of my hand. Many people, including myself, had to use multiple plates to obtain the size of a normal portion of food. Additionally, the servers didn't remove the used plates, which were scattered all over each table. Although it is a stunning location with sophistication and charm, it's unfortunate to say that the service put quite a damper on the evening. read more

I have to say, I was shocked to find such a lovely little winery in the outskirts of Aurora, Ohio! I met up with a few friends here over the holidays and we had a wonderful evening. Thorncreek makes quite an impact in an area where wineries are scarce. From the moment I walked into the building, I was impressed. It didn't hurt that I came just a couple days before Christmas - the entire establishment was completely decked out in glistening lights and glittery ornaments hanging everywhere you turned. We were seated at a wooden table right by a large fireplace and instantly felt welcomed. I'm a pretty critical judge of wineries found in Ohio and Pennsylvania: most seem to have sickeningly sweet wines. This was not the case at Thorncreek. I tried both the Merlot and the Reserve Cabernet, and I was impressed. The Reserve Cabernet really exceeded my expectations; it was rich and full-bodied and I'd highly recommend it. While these bottles aren't cheap, I think it's worth it when you consider that going out to most bars will cost you around $8 to $10 a craft cocktail these days. When it comes to the food, we were a tad underwhelmed with the cheese plate (maybe worth a pass unless you're there on happy hour), but I had the salmon as an entree and it was absolutely delicious. Finally, I would like to give a shoutout to our waitress - I regret that I cannot recall her name, but our entire table agreed that she was one of the best waitresses we've had in a long time. We had about 8 people at our table and we were moving seats constantly to catch up with friends, and she expertly kept track of the separate bills we were racking up despite us moving around. She was also constantly available if we needed our waters refreshed, which was much appreciated. If you're in the Aurora area, you should definitely visit Thorncreek soon. Boy, I'm really bitter that Leah didn't have a better experience here at Thorncreek. My wife and I adored this place. The property, inside and out, are beautifully put together. I'm really pissed that I didn't know about Thorncreek earlier in the spring. Regardless, we made it there and here's what I thought. Wine: Although the grapes are not grown on the property, they are brought in from California and a couple local vineyards. You can see the wine being made in the basement, perfect location for a rehearsal dinner. We tried the sampler and enjoyed each. Not a single one really stood out but each was unique and bottle worthy at an average price of $12.99. Food: We went with the chicken dip with fried pita chips and ate every last morsel. Lots of flavor, super rich, and went well with the whites. I could have used a little more chicken but was fine just the way it was. The waiter mistakenly brought out two other plates to our table which both looked delicious. The pulled pork sliders and the cheese plate. Although the cheese plate did look nice, I might agree with Leah and that $18 is a little steep given the cheese options. The rest of the menu was limited, a little pricey, but all made from fresh ingredients and presented wonderfully (from all the other dishes I watched come out). Service: Service was fine. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. Our waiter was proficient but not overly in our faces. Food took 10 minutes and our wine was presented almost immediately. Waters were always full. Ambiance: By far the best asset here at Thorncreek. The owner owns a landscape company and uses the winery to show off his talents by means of beautiful gardens and outside dining. I would still go back in the wintertime for the food and wine but really want to check out the gardens in full bloom. read more

Disappointing service and food Happy Hour 4-6PM, limited appetizer menu, $2 off house wine pours and and select cocktails. $12 HH Flatbread is actually a small pizza but very disappointing like spaghettios sauce meets marginally warmed artificial cheese. Wine pours are moderate. Sadly, ordered food and drinks at 5:25PM, wine took 25 minutes to arrive, food took 65 minutes to arrive. Ordered a dessert, took 20 more minutes. Server brought me a glass of wine that was "on her" because of the delays....then charged me for the free wine, charged $3 for the taste of pinot she offered, charged for a dinner salad that we did not order and failed to apply happy hour pricing to anything despite having ordered well before 6PM. Came for a bridal shower on Sunday afternoon. Our large group (maybe 30-40 people) had rented out the basement, which had a really nice set-up. The dining room was a bit cramped for our size group, but not too bad. The place was beautifully decorated and the food was amazing (I believe it was catered by an outside company). There was an adjoining L-shaped room that worked really well for opening the gifts. The bride sat in the corner of the L so the guests could all see her. There was a small bar set up on one end, and couches and chairs on the other side. I walked around a bit upstairs and outside before we left, and the place is just incredibly gorgeous. I can't wait to come back and relax in the gardens with some wine and listen to a band play. I really want to come after dark to see all the lights they had strung around in the trees. I can't comment on the food because I don't know if Thorn Creek actually did any of the food we had at the shower. As far as the wine goes, I tried a couple and they were good but I don't remember which ones I had. But the place is so beautiful that it doesn't even matter what the wine tastes like, really. They could serve nothing and I'd still want to just come and sit here. The fact that they have wine at all is just icing on the cake. read more

I am 100% indebted to my company for this dazzling introduction and you had better believe I will be a frequent visitor. The exterior of this delightful winery is one unlike many I have seen and without turning into total fan-girl here, brought about such a natural and truly magical feeling. The grounds were very well kept - well decorated with a Fall themed wheelbarrow outside - maintained, open yet intimate, and suitable for all parties of people for any reason imaginable. Of course my mind flashed immediately to a beautiful bride and handsome groom living their fairytale wedding - and I'm absolutely sure it has occurred. It is the perfect place for a nice date, a happy hour company get together, a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary, a bachelorette party, a simple escape from the monotony of life - Thorncreek Winery does it ALL. There was a somewhat rustic vibe with an actual wood workshop tool attached to one of the taller tables. How authentic, Thorncreek! Now without further ado, let us embark on the journey of my taste buds - which was quite the excursion, I tell you. As the ambiance has proven - this is the place for anyone. The wine makes an even stronger defense! Red lover? White lover? Sweet lover? Dry lover? Have no fear - absolute satisfaction is here! Aurora Cream White and Aurora Cream Red provide you with those sweet flavors you crave - delicious dessert wine. The Pinot Noir, which I had at first, was a nice and smooth red with strong hints of blackberry and raspberry. I followed sips of this savory beverage with what came next - which really took the buds on a rollercoaster of flavor... the Jarlsberg Chicken Dip. The herbs and chives were subtle but certainly didn't go unnoticed amidst the creamy fluffy and amazing flavored cheese. I also then tried a couple pieces of cheese from the cheese board with nice zesty seeded crackers to accompany them. The Pesto Spinach Flatbread followed, with a whirlwind of flavors including (you guessed it!) - spinach, pesto... and mozzarella with hints of feta. I believe also a thinly sliced red onion sat atop. Light and crispy and definitely hit the spot. The crab cakes were crumbly and looked delicious, though I did not actually try them, the others in my party were very pleased. I also tried the Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the Syrah. Both different reds with their own unique accents - the Cab focused more on a burst of tannins while still being soft and smooth, whereas the Syrah was a nice peppery plum full-bodied blend. I say Hoorah for Syrah! I think it was my favorite. I look forward to trying the whites next time... taking the buds on a trip to the 'White Winter Wonderland', if you will. The experience was one to cherish, not only because of the fantastic company I was able to be surrounded by, but the elegant ambiance, powerfully delicious and well created wines, and exceptionally executed small plates. Do yourself a favor and make a trip to this hidden gem resting in Aurora, OH. They support local musicians featuring a flare of their talents, as well as a Happy Hour offering special promotions on Thursday and Friday from 4-6PM. A favorite stop when we're in town. Love the ambiance, food, wine and service. Very cozy and inviting in the winter and lively and vibrant in warmer months. Definitely suitable for an intimate date night, girls night or group outing. I don't recommend children but that's a personal preference simply because I wouldn't want a screaming baby or squirming toddler changing the vibe. But outside in summertime might be better suited for kiddos. Definitely gets busy, especially if there's live music. read more

3 things that give this place 3 stars: 1.Once we were sat it was 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. This already had us a bit annoyed as a simple greeting and letting us know it'll be a minute can go a very long way. This was no good first impression. 2.We ordered a cheese plate, pretty simple but 35 minutes later, no cheese plate. We went up to the bar to ask and the lady went into the back and walked right out with it. I am pretty sure it was sitting there for the 35 minutes. No apologies either. 3.Finally, after an empty taster and an empty bottle nobody acknowledged us again. We were hoping to grab another bottle but when glasses are sitting empty for that long why give them more of our money. Overall, this winery is gorgeous. The atmosphere is spot on and by far my favorite. The wine is delicious and the prices are excellent. But the service, ugh. Please put a plan into place and go with it. We never had 1 dedicated server and this is what this place really needs. We felt like we were getting whoever had time to help us. Also, kind of another random vent: fix up your $18 cheese plate, this is kind of embarrassing. For $18 a cheese plate should have a decent amount of variety in the cheese, this was boring and basic. Also, 8 small crackers doesn't go far but hey, at least we had a enough almonds and grapes to feed a small family. Has potential, but appears to be run by a 16 year old kid. Let me first state, that the place is beautiful and the outside grounds are very nice. That's about where I stop with the compliments. I met some people there last night and here was our experience: - Waited at least 15 minutes for anyone to even come over for my drink order. Keep in mind, it was a Wednesday evening with approximately 30 people in the entire place. - After I ordered my drink, it took about another 15 minutes to get it... I ordered a complex drink... a bottle of beer. I noticed our waitress was showing a couple the grounds for a future wedding reception. She was doing this 10 minutes after my beer order... that I had not received yet. - The group of people that I was meeting got there 15 minutes before me and ordered two appetizers... they were dips with chips on the side. About 10 minutes after I finally got my beer, they send this poor 16 year old kid over to deliver the news that they were out of crab meat and had been out since the morning. Keep in mind, my friends had ordered before I got there. 45 minutes after they ordered they tell us they are out of one of them. - The appetizers finally came... they were wrong... must have been for another table. They obviously served our appetizers to another table or they just plain old forgot, because it took about another 25 minutes to get them. Please keep in mind... they were dips that were probably heated up in a microwave. - No one apologized... no one said "hey, we messed up - the next round is on us." - Drink service was absolutely horrible. At one point there was a 15 minute time period where there was not one employee visible in the ENTIRE restaurant... inside and out. I don't know if they were all out smoking or what, but there was a patio full of people and no one to be seen for 15 minutes. - Then after all the crappy service and the waitress comes over to give us our check and I'm thinking for sure she is going to apologize for the dozen or so screw ups that they made that night, but instead she says "sorry about the weather tonight." - Five people ordered two appetizers a few drinks each = a $190 tab. You couldn't pay me to go back to this place. Probably top 3 bad restaurant experiences in my entire life. Keep running it like this guys and you'll be out of business by Fall. read more

We've been to a lot of different wineries but I'd have to say this place is one of the best, probably the best of them all. It's very well manicured both inside and out. The staff is very friendly and helpful and well trained. The food is excellent. My only complaint is that they sometimes rent out the entire first floor for a private party. I have nothing against private parties but probably not on Friday or Saturday night when regular customers want to get in. I'd recommend calling first to be safe. But other than that the place is top shelf all the way around. read more

My husband treated me to a date night at Thorncreek. We live in the area yet had no idea it's here. It's a gorgeous area to relax with a glass of wine. Getting a glass, however, can be a bit challenging. We were seated at a table outside and waited well over ten minutes to be acknowledged. I'm all about relaxing and not being rushed...but let me relax once I have a beverage in my hand. We ended up getting two flights and a couple of appetizers. The wine and food were both delicious and service was a bit better once we were finally acknowledged. It seemed as if nobody really took ownership of our table as a couple different people ended up taking orders, removing glasses and giving us our check so who knows what was going on. I'd like to return as it's so close to home. The prices weren't bad. They were typical of most wineries. It's worth a drive from the Cleveland area. read more

Thorncreek is a beautiful setting inside and out with great wines. However, they seem to have some ongoing service issues which I have experienced more than once. It is a fun spot if you are not in a rush at all and won't mind waiting a while to be served. read more

I'm so excited they are open for lunch! Went last week for a break from work and it was a great escape. Their wines are good--I know some people are skeptical of Ohio wines--although they can be a bit on the sweet side. I tend to drink the signature to satisfy my craving for drier wines. The new lunch menu, though, is great! And when they say portioned to share, they mean portioned to share! We ordered three dishes for four people but could have easily been satisfied with two! The pulled pork was incredibly tender and nice and saucy, the vegan dip was on point, and the Alaskan crab was also very tasty. I will admit, we were surprised the Alaskan crab was a sauce. But it was delicious! If you're looking for a relaxing lunch with a flexible setting (so many seating arrangements!) and attentive service, swing by here for a relaxing glass of wine :) read more
