One man's dream that he almost didn't complete. Now it is a beautiful example of his dream fulfilled and a great spot for your wedding ceremony. I didn't get married here, but my introduction to this chapel was a wedding 25 years ago, where I was the best man. I came back over the holiday with my kids. We arrived, and there was a sign notifying us that a ceremony was going on, so we came back on a different day. It was just as beautiful as I remembered. It is truly a site to behold. What it isn't - Remember when I said a ceremony was going on when we first arrived? This is a place where people get married. If you were getting married and some yahoo from Louisiana showed up with his two kids dressed casually, you wouldn't particularly like it. It's a major example of "less is more" and "good things come in small packages." Thorncrown Chapel is a latticed timber structure - a nondenominational chapel that is Christian in its inspiration - sitting in the hilly, wooded terrain just outside of bohemian Eureka Springs, Arkansas. You will have to look for its small roadway from the highway to visit it. To say that it might resemble a popsicle stick model would be reductionist, but there is this affect in the way it looks. The difference is that the chapel is all about carefully selected, shaped, and connected wood members that make it a significant place in the world of American architecture. It was designed by the states's native son E. Fay Jones. He was the recipient of numerous awards, as is Thorncrown Chapel. The chapel is enclosed in glass. This brings in and keeps out the surroundings and elements, respectively. Sitting in here is a very serene experience. One could worship if they want - its scheme is a Christian one - or could just savor the silence. However, there is soothing instrumental music playing in the background that could intersect with today's new age variety. I thought that was humorous. They do not charge an entrance fee. They didn't when I visited. However, they do ask for donations and, if you visited, you should make a donation. There was a person on hand to answer questions. There might be events here, causing the chapel to open and close for short periods. One typical event might be a wedding. Closer to the entrance and away from the chapel is an office that tends to such affairs. Whether to visit Thorncrown Chapel garners the answer, "It depends." It is at the northwestern border of the state, just outside of Eureka Springs and below the Missouri border. However, it is far from Little Rock and Hot Springs, though not absurdly far from Fayetteville, home of the University of Arkansas. You will inevitably combine your visit with a visit to Eureka Springs. Eureka Springs is an artsy community shoehorned into a hilly mountain town that has restaurants, coffeehouses, gift shops, and the like ... and most likely garden variety stoners who work at these places. Think Nevada City, CA, Sedona, AZ, Galena, IL, Saratoga Springs, NY, and similar granolafied towns thrown into the middle of rural (and more conservative) America. I got derailed discussing Eureka Springs and its hippie vibe. If, to you, the distance is reasonable and doable, do visit Thorncrown Chapel. Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, AR was very cool. My aunt's sister tried to tell me that the Anthony Chapel in Hot Springs was a replica. I wasn't having it then, but didn't argue with her because she's one of those people who always thinks they're right. I am not having it now either since I have visited both chapels. Thorncrown is also predominately a glass chapel, however, it seats only 100 guests and has a cooler tone in its beams and seems much more rustic compared to the Anthony counterpart. Parking was free. Entry was free. The lady inside was very nice to my daughters while I stayed outside with our dog. It is slightly tricky to find from the winding highway, but on July 24, 2025 it was a divine treat for our eyes - busy too at approximately 9 AM. I bet it's even more breathtaking in the fall. When sitting inside, it truly looks like you can walk out the back - right into the mountains - yet it is really just clear glass. Good place for a roughly 10-minute stop to take it in and read the background. No trails around to see from different angles. Not someplace you'd go for a long time, unless you're into praying or meditating for a while there. read more

Very easy to find with a large parking lot. The path from the parking lot to the chapel is short and paved so it is easily accessible o all. I am not sure what the etiquette is here. The second you walk in the tell you to sit down. So maybe photography is discouraged. It is nice that someone is there to ensure it says quiet. Beautiful and peaceful building. read more

Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Sitting inside was completely surreal. The woman working inside, greeting people was extremely friendly and happy to chat about the chapel. The path to the chapel is on the north side of the parking lot. Hidden from the west side of the parking lot down some stairs is another building, signs note as the Worship Center, which was closed while we were there, but we're glad we stopped to see it as it's also beautiful. They do close the gate until 9 AM, so don't think you can park early and walk the grounds like we did. read more

I had been here before there was Yelp and now I'm back. It hasn't changed. It is still magical and beautiful. It is amazing that something like this can be designed and built. It is beyond stunning. Designed by an apprentice of the great Franky Lloyd Wright, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. That's a big deal because buildings have to be 50 years old to get that status. Deservedly so, it's a beautiful church. Entry is free though a donations are requested. Photographers are also requested to be respectful of other guests and only take pictures while seated - it is an active place of worship. Beautiful! We visited on a rainy day. Upon stepping into the chapel, a person sits inside and gives out a brochure and invites you to sit in the chapel. There is also a table with a few books to purchase and a donation box to help with maintenance costs of the chapel. Bring cash if you'd like to donate. The structure is gorgeous - and is such a peaceful space. The website does say to go earlier in the day because they close the site for weddings. We headed there before lunch on a Saturday morning and were able to go in. Later in the day when we drove by (around 2pm), it was closed for a private event. Keep that in mind when planning your day. Me and my wife got married there. Absolutely stunning location and beautiful! The pictures come out great with the lighting in the evening. The Chaplin was so nice and accommodating. I would say the only thing that I don't care for if you plan a wedding. The lady only wants you to be there 15minutes before the ceremony starts. My wife's group was only 30 minutes early total (3:30) due to so much to getting ready with the wedding dress. She snapped on her for being early and also caught some attitude at my self for being an extra 15 minutes early. Heck the wedding guests were early too... if you book and pay for a wedding from 4-6, they should expect guests to start arriving 3:45. I did not care for the attitude that was given to us for being a little early. There is definitely room to improve on wedding ceremonies with the planner. read more

In a place that is so tourist focused like Eureka Springs, you might wonder where you would find some peace and serenity. This was easy once we found the chapel. Nestled up in the wooded hills, Thorncrown is a true jewel in the forest. As you approach, you can't help but be in awe of this wood and glass marvel. The architect truly designed it to be in unison with the surrounding woods. AS you enter, you walk across floors of natural polished stone. The interior has notes of Prairie Style architecture. Very Frank Lloyd Wright-like. The glass is so crystal clear, you almost feel you are not inside of a building. It has been ages since I found any place so gentle and calming. The chapel also offers church services on Sundays as well. We unfortunately could not get our little troops up for church, but we definitely will try to attend on our next trip. read more

This is even more beautiful in person than I'd imagined it would be - you really do feel as though you are sitting in the midst of a forest while inside. There's nothing I can add that's not already covered in other reviews. You do have to sit down to when you are inside, even if you just want photos. It is the right thing to give a donation since there is no admission fee. And you should double check if they are open before making the drive because they sometimes close for special events. I am not a religious individual but the chapel's architecture is definitely worth a visit. My wife is more spiritual than I am and really enjoyed the chapel. The setting is beautiful, the chapel has glass windows letting in natural light and an amazing view of the forest/hill. The chapel is very peaceful and a nice place for self reflection/introspection. A must visit when in Eureka Springs no matter your religion or no religion it's a spiritual and amazing architecture. It's right off of Highway 62 headed west out of Eureka Springs. The path to drive in sets the scene for your peaceful visit ahead. We had been here numerous times and did not know Thorn Crown existed although it has been here since 1980. The Thorn Crown is all wood, glass and stone. When you walk in you are greeted by a Chaplin or Volunteer that can say a prayer with you. He hands you a brochure and asks you to be seated to take pictures. The way that they sculpted the wood beams allows the sunlight to come in at beautiful angles. If you are into architecture then this is a must see and if you need to get closer to your maker the stop by for inspiration. read more

Right off the road, the chapel was easy to find. We went during the winter and the chapel fit right into the wooded site. There was no other visitors when we were there and so we parked next to the office pavilion - it was a very short jaunt to the chapel.
