We greatly enjoyed our recent stay during the Christmas / New Year period. The rooms are comfortable and decently appointed. The common spaces are excellent for both larger groups and more intimate conversations. The sunsets seen from the dining room's picture windows were fantastic. We were a large family reunion who the hosts graciously allowed to take over the entire inn. We were impressed with the kitchen and dining areas as well as the separate breakfast area. The bar was certainly a hit! Lastly, the location is great for winter sports, summer hiking, and antiquing. We'd love to return! read more

My fiancé and I celebrated are coming nuptials at this lovely BnB in Great Barrington. Silently we gathered in the room preparing to embark on our exploration of Stockbridge Massachusetts which rises into the side of an almost mountain as an almost monument to what Arlo Guthrie almost was the day he visited Whitehall Street in New York and proceeded to tell the story of Alice's Restaurant. The pleasant atmosphere of the Inn was graced by a pleasant hostess and a rolling set of breakfast items set to please the vegetarian souls of NPR listening intelligencia as they gather to hold another rally against capitalism in their posh Nike shoes and bold American Eagle Outfitter dress down wear. Because let's be honest, looking poor never quite goes out of style. Seriously, regarding the inn, it's proof that peace can be found on a late September evening. There's not one bad thing I can say about this little in. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept away from home. We were allowed to bring our puppy with us to stay, the sheets were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was perfect proportions and amazing taste and service! The hosts were very kind and accommodating. If I could take this place with me when I went away from home I would stay there every time. read more

My lover and I wanted to find a place where we could decompress from the stress and strain of everyday life. i stumbled across the Thornewood Inn while researching just such a location, a hide-away, but still close enough to enjoy short forays to local places of interest. What luck! This little yellow Inn fit the bill perfectly. The Rockwell Museum, shops of Great Barrington, and the famous Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge were just minutes away. We also discovered two really excellent restaurants close by. The room was cozy and clean with a small fireplace and a canopied 4 poster bed. It was private and quiet, with a pretty view. The hosts were extremely warm and seemed genuinely interested in ensuring that we were comfortable. Even though went for a romantic weekend, it was easy to see that a longer stay would have been equally delightful. Next time! read more

What a beautiful inn! I had my wedding there this last September- the service was incredible. They worked with our budget and even allowed us to go in a few days before to decorate to save on costs. They were able to block off rooms to have our family stay the night. The following morning we had our Sunday brunch which was also well done! Terry and David are wonderful and charming. Spencer's Restaurant is now "The Point" Restaurant. We went for the Thanksgiving Buffet. The food was fantastic - home made. The service was elegant, gracious and authentic. The butternut squash soup was excellent as was the mashed potatoes, turkey, and stuffing. My wife said it was such a pleasant way to spend Thanksgiving. My son, a vegetarian, was served a delicious vegetarian entree - acorn squash stuffed with quinoa - at no extra charge. The owner was present, and made sure everything went well. read more

David is worth chatting with given his life experience, he has some awesome stories to tell about his life in music. I can't recommend this place enough. This place is very special, and so are its owners. I don't think I've ever encountered this type of hospitality and personal attention anywhere. David, the owner (who is also a great musician btw), even drove us to a nearby restaurant/bar because we were kind of drunk and it was too cold to walk. He waited while I went inside, then drove us back to the inn because the restaurant was closing. Later at night, we got hungry, and he and his wife cooked us a delicious meal, even though it was several hours after everything had already closed for the night, and I'm sure they were more than ready for bed. The breakfast was also great. The room was really nice and clean. Upon leaving, there hugs all around. This is the kind of place you feel really good about spending your money, and are awaiting an opportunity to go back. read more

This little gem oozes charm. We discovered it simply by driving around looking for someplace to have a nice dinner. We had passed a number of places and this looked so delightful from the street, we both said, "let's eat there." What fun as a wonderful live jazz band performed, people danced (we were too shy - dumb us) and lovely food was served. Field and Cellar is the most interesting new restaurant in southern Berkshire County. Chef Massey is crushing this farm to table concept in the Thornewood Inn. The tuna tartar and pork belly to start were both excellent with unexpected flavors. Nick created a cocktail to match the apps that was a fun summer drink. Next came the bison short rib and a chicken dish, both amazing. Kim created an awesome desert, all served on pottery dishes made by local potter Daniel Bellow. We drove past out usual spots to eat at Field and Cellar tonight and we are glad we did. read more

We loved this charming inn! It is so comfortable, spacious, and has such an imaginative variety of antiques and decor in its many seating areas inside and out...and there is a pool! We ate here for Thanksgiving Dinner and stayed overnight in the garden II suite. The Inn is full of old Berkshire style living. Walking into the main floor reminded me of walking into someone's Great Grandmother's house with WIFI. The main floor is where you dine or just go for a sit by the fire, read a book, or just have a drink. The Thanksgiving meal was as good as anybody's, but a little pricey for a traditional buffet. I can't think of one thing I would have added to it except turnips but, not everyone likes those so I'm not complaining. Dessert was a bit lacking in the pie area, pumpkin only with other cakes and some kind of tasty apple turnover stuff. We played cards by the fire until 11pm. It was stress free for the time we were there. While we were sitting there, the staff was available for drinks and were moving furniture around and knocking over lamps. Extremely entertaining. The suite was two rooms and a bathroom with a very cool Jacuzzi tub/shower. The main bed was warm and cozy. I didn't like the layout of the furniture. Seems like there was a lot of additional unneeded furniture to accommodate two people. A room for two with two rooms in our situation, one room could be for TV and sitting and the other for sleeping. The closet was in a terrible location. Next time I guess we should specify that. It wasn't a huge problem for an overnight stay. There's no coffee makers available in the room and the one on the main room didn't have any cups or regular coffee. Breakfast was tasty. Broccoli scrambled eggs! The staff and owners were on hand to chat with which made us feel right at home. I would have preferred a menu driven meal but at least it was included with the room. Overall the Inn is a good place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing get-a-way. Not unlike any seasonal situation, this estate is no exception to the effects of depreciation, weathering, and seasonal residue where some detailed attention would take those issues out of sight and focus and put it back on a Great Barrington, Berkshire, New England, Massachusetts Holiday. I don't know if we will go back here. Maybe. Wife feel that we should try a different place next time. I think there might be better B&B's for the same cost with a better selection of food. Given some extra effort, there's lots of potential at the Thornewood. read more

I hate to write bad things about places run by good people. But I really hope this review reaches the owners so that they may consider improving the experience of future guests. My husband and I booked two nights here as dog-friendly lodging in the area is limited. After taxes, we paid a considerable total price of $490. We stayed in the Carriage Room which was frankly far below our expectations (and we are pretty simple ppl). Immediately upon entering the room, we were greeted by the smell of dampness. A stack of clean and folded towels had been left for us...on the hardwood floor--an odd choice to place clean towels fone of which looked like it had been torn or shred in the machine). A layer of dust coated all the furniture and the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling. (Please see my photos posted). Neverthess we told ourselves these were only cosmetic issues, nothing that should put a damper on our wknd getaway. But when we tried to get some sleep, the sounds of cars whizzing by on the main road kept us awake. Moreover, the walls are also so thin that we could hear our neighbors having a conversation. The final straw was when I awoke to the sounds of sex next door. We paid nearly half a grand to stay in a small room by the road with paper-thin walls. Could complimentary breakfast redeem the Inn? Unfortunately, thus far no home-cooked breakfast was to be had. Instead, standard continental breakfast with a side of reheated frozen sausages was served up in a room that is MAJORLY outdated and in desperate need for an update. Again, please see my photos which include those horrible sticky plastic table cloths. Honestly, I would not have been so disappointed or critical if the price was more reasonable. We will not be returning to Thornewood Inn unless the prices are more economical or the experience matches what you pay for. read more

This is a lovely restaurant with excellent service and an interesting menu. We had pork tenderloin, steak and the vegetable plate, plus appetizers and desserts. Three courses were prepared with peaches that night, so a bit repetitive. The food was well-prepared, but nothing was really delicious, which was disappointing at these prices. read more

Absolutely unacceptable service. While the food is perfectly good, the service is so bad that it is worth not going. We waited over an hour for our food and they knew we had 4 young hungry children. They also never came by to check on drinks even once after we got our initial round of drinks. After complaining about the service, they took off a measly $10 off the total bill which was over $180.00. Would definitely not recommend. You can do much better in the Berkshires. read more

We had a wonderful visit to the Thornewood Inn. We are a family with two kids (6 and 4). The garden suite gave us plenty of room and enough privacy/separation between us and the kids. The owners and their staff/family are warm and welcoming. The Inn had lots of interesting attractions for the kids who enjoyed supervised explorations of the main floor full of antiques, trinkets and fun distractions. Spencers (The restaurant at the Inn) has a short but very well executed menu. They accommodated our food issues with ease. The boys raved over the duck, my life had a great fish dish and I had a wonderful vegan pasta dish. I would recommend letting them know ahead of time to give them more time to cater to your special needs for an even more splendid experience. We will definitely visit the Inn next time we are in the Berkshires. read more

Recently my (handsome) close friend and I decided to get out of dodge for a weekend away from the city. We had no destination, and in fact, our only requirement was to "stay somewhere we'll appreciate". We got just that. On this particular evening, the Thornewood was very mellow and charming. Our room was simple, comfortable, and quaint -just as we'd hoped. There's a full bar with a host of local wine, (a pleasant surprise to say the least). Down the road you'll find a Brewery, as well as several restaurant options. My guess though, is once you check in, you'll be lured in by live music, a home cooked meal, and warm conversation. Decent accommodations. Nothing to fancy. It was dreadfully hot in our room one night. Very stuffy and the window ac unit was to old and not adequate for the room dimensions. The hot water was spotty in the mornings. The breakfasts we had were great. I like a firm matress so that was good to. The place is on a main road. Very convenient to Great Barrington. read more

My boyfriend and I purchased a living social coupon to stay at Thornewood Inn for the weekend. This is the most romantic getaway a couple could ask for! Antique rooms with classy beautiful decor, the owners were the most charming couple! The wife is the chef and her cooking is unreal! In the first morning we had asparagus frittatas and bacon with fresh squeezed orange juice! For dinner we ate at the Point which had the most romantic ambiance...I had roast duck and my boyfriend had the beef special. Delicious! We received a bottle of wine as part of our package which the owner, David allowed us to have with dinner and hand picked something special for us. David also sang with his piano player...my boyfriend and I danced. :) I love this place and will be back once a year as our anniversary spot! My boyfriend and I stayed at the Thornewood Inn for a short winter reprieve, on what ended up being one of the coldest weekends of the Winter. Our vacation package included passes to the Norman Rockwell Museum and a dinner at the Inn's restaurant, The Point, and was already an exceptional value. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by Dave, the owner, and were impressed by the genuine warmth of him and his family. They welcomed us into their home as friends, not merely guests, and did an exceptional job at making sure we were comfortable. Impressively, every "employee" was a member of their family, adding to the warmth of our stay. The dinner at The Point was delicious and we later learned prepared by the grandmother on the property, as was the warm breakfast we had both mornings. As for the room, it was simple and clean with all the necessary amenities. We happily spent a couple of evenings watching the NFL playoffs with other guests, who were also impressed with the innkeepers' hospitality. A slight glitch was thrown into our stay when the power went out in the city of New Barrington while it was a mere 6 degrees fahrenheit outside. We were staying in Carriage House #2 with our dog; he too was welcomed in to the main house with us during the power emergency, considering the extremely cold conditions. There we gathered with the innkeepers and other guests around the warmth of a log fire. The family remained calm and continued to be just as accommodating as ever, although luckily the power resumed within a couple hours. To sum it up, we had an incredibly nice visit, and we will gladly stay at Thornewood Inn during our next trip to the Berkshires. We would readily recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast to others. read more

The Thornewood Inn is a lovely antique New England Lodging. My family and I spent a wonderful weekend at the Inn for my birthday. The rooms were very comfortable with modern conveniences in an antique setting. The dinner in their dining room was fantastic. The Inn is very close to the lovely town of Great Barrington, where the adults went shopping and the children went hiking. There is lots to do for everyone. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Having stayed in the hotel chains in Great Barrington in the past, I wanted to try a B&B for this Christmas's visit to the area. The hosts were more than gracious and accommodating, setting up coffee every morning for our early rising. The furnishings and decor were perfectly New England "antique" and felt completely like home. The building is beautiful, and we so enjoyed rambling from room to room to see what surprises awaited us around each corner. The fresh homemade food was outstanding, and the the location is central to the most popular of the Berkshire attractions. I will definitely stay here from now on when I visit the Berkshires and recommend this Inn to everyone looking for a warm comfortable place to stay. read more

Upon arrival at the thornewood i thought wow beautiful house perched up on the hill. that was all that was charming about the inn. The owners were really nice no complaints there. the house smelled nasty from mothballs think funeral home. the decor was dusty, danky and dreary, the room i stayed in with my wife had moths, caterpillars, spiders, grasshoppers, and lots of mosquitos floating about. the bedsheets and towels were fresh but the furniture,walls and paintings were loaded with dust. the pool on the website looked inviting but a trip to the reality was the water was filled with decaying leaves.when the owner realized people were at the poll; he ran down to the pool filled up a bucket with de-chlorinator and dumped away and then decided to turn on the filtration. I really liked the owners but the place was a total dump. read more

Truth in reviewing: Never stayed there. Never been to Great Barrington. But my niece goes to school near htere. And my parents were going to go visit her. My mom got really sick, and called the day of the reservation to change or cancel it, and THEY LET HER CHANGE THE RESERVATION WITHOUT ANY FEE OR ANYTHING. And when I called to thank them for that, the lady that answered the phone was SUPER NICE to me. Customer service is a big part of any "hotel", and these people seem like they have that down cold. If the place is as nice as the people that work there, it must be the Ritz. :-) read more
