Santa brunch, smashed burger with egg

Great historic place. We timed coming into town the right day because it was also Breakfast with Santa. What a wonderful surprise. Our waitress was outstanding!!! She helped us with information, parking, Santa, pictures and food orders. Very wonderful lady who served us well. I enjoyed the special soup of the day pumpkin bisque and it was so good and had a little kick yummy. I also ordered off the Santa Brunch menu and had the smash burger with fries. The fries reminded me if McDonald's, shoestring and very tasty. Best experience out for brunch

As per usual the food is fantastic. Our server Dorothy went above and beyond to make our meal, and our daughter's first birthday, a dinner we will never forget! If you can't decide between dishes get both!

This is a PSA for my fellow weary life travelers. You will not find respite here at the Red Lion Inn. Travel down the road to another inn. It's too bad these reviews aren't separated from the gift store- the restaurant- the Inn. I guess that's how they bury the reviews. This review is for the Inn. I pre-booked and paid for a 7 night stay ($3500) in a Queen Suite at The Red Lion Inn to celebrate my husband's birthday. When we arrived, we were told we had a room in one of separate "Village Houses". Wow! What a disappointment ; Peeling paint ceilings, damp carpet floors, view of construction from every room, cob webs and ripped blinds. When I asked the front desk if they could find us a room that was more in line with what was advertised and what was paid for, I was told that the hotel could not find us another room but they would keep us at the top of the list. I then asked if I was able to find another hotel room in the area if they would refund our money and was told no. It was so bad that after three days of NO response for our request for a resolution- we checked out early. Sorry that their kind staff has to be the first line defense for deceptive practices. To the family that owns this inn, I would be embarrassed to call this my legacy. If you can't renovate- you should rebrand yourself to "The Red Lyin' Inn".

I was researching options for a dinner party for 12 people. I had known about Red Lion Inn and never been, but after inquiring decided to book our dinner. I coordinated with Tim who was lovely. He was extremely responsive, great at communication, and very helpful to get everything coordinated. We were able to book the "living room" which was a private room adjacent to the lobby, right in front of a live piano. It was sooo charming. We paid a fee for the private room, but beyond that there was no minimums to meet. Red Lion created custom menus for us, left a curated selection of options, and created a beautiful setting for our meal. I loved the chinoiserie dinnerware. The entire setting was gorgeous, cozy, and a perfect spot for a group dinner. I really couldn't have been happier. We started with a glass of bubbly, the nest egg, the hand cut egg pasta, and ordered all the desserts. All of the food was delicious. If you're looking for a space for a private dinner, or even just to enjoy an evening out with delicious food in a cozy setting, do not hesitate to book at Red Lion. I'm already planning my next trip back to actually stay at the inn for fall foliage in October!

Truly amazing place! So much charm and history ! Beautifully decorated for Christmas, I would love to return during the summer and enjoy this beautiful space. We only had lunch at the restaurant and shop at the gift shop but everything was perfect! The service, my tea experience, the tomato soup with leeks and my husband's legendary burger, The gift shop is highly recommended and I have to return so I can buy a tea set! A must see!

Mom and Dad used to frequent the Inn back in the day to celebrate their many anniversaries. Today, hubs and I decided to drop in for lunch to celebrate ours. Yes, the floors still creak and are seriously lopsided in places. There's the old eccentric feel to the historical venue. Well, the inn is 250 years old! Welcome to the 18th century. Of course, we enjoyed their clam chowder and chicken pot pie. Great place to people watch and our waitress has served many in her 20 years tenure. Red Lion is worth a stop if you are ever passing through the quaint town of Stockbridge. **Reservations are necessary ** Have a Happy New Year 2024!

First time here! We really enjoyed the ambience and the service! Food was really good too! A classic restaurant that is a must see.

My family and myself have been coming here for 30+ years for lunch around Christmas time to see the Christmas tree and to see the gingerbread house too! I read some of the more recent negative reviews and was skeptical to say the least. The only noticeable change that was disappointing and worth noting was that the once complimentary bread basket, is now $8, so we decided to go without it. I'm happy to say that our experience was overall fantastic. We were a party of 8 and had reservations which are a MUST! We were taken care of by Leo who was personable, accommodating, knowledgeable with the menu, and so kind and patient, even with the youngest guests at the table. I started with the wedge salad which was a substantial size and delicious, a smash burger for my main course, and a scoop of coffee iced cream with an espresso martini! 2 people in my party had the clam chowder and were raving! The rest of the party had salmon, fish and chips, and the lobster roll(served warm), and everyone was happy with their meal. For dessert the warm brown sugar cake and pecan pie were delicious and accompanied by ice cream! Definitely worth stopping in for a meal but make sure to make a reservation!

We continue to enjoy our visits to the venerable Red Lion. It's most definitely an historic inn -- 250 years old in 2023 -- and has endured over a plethora of difficult times. It's a large facility with a main house and several outposts around its "campus." We prefer staying in the main inn, preferably on the first floor where there are several large, comfty king bed rooms. The rooms are not bargain-priced, but for this area for given the inn's status, it seems fair to us. There is a main dining room, a tavern, a basement pub that offers live music, and outdoor dining under tents. Lots of choices. The main dining room we've found to be acceptable with occasional delightfully prepared dishes (they actually do an old-fashioned turkey dinner very nicely). Service is good, the tables candlelit at dinner, the experience usually a pretty good one. There's a skilled bartender who whips up some nifty drinks. But the supreme pleasure is getting one of the rocking chairs on the big front porch and watching the world go by while you sip a cool beverage. It's where we happily spent several hours on our recent stay. A few annoying moments: no coffee in the room and a gross overcharge for a copy of the daily newspaper ($4 for a $1.50 edition???). Small stuff maybe, but they stick in the memory. Really, this old hotel has a lot of charm and character and puffers visitors a lot to relish whole there here. We'll be back.

Since we were driving from Cambridge to Egremont -- about three hours -- to celebrate a special occasion with friends who live nearby, we called to ask whether they could make an exception. The manager gladly did. A few hours before the reservation, however, the OWNER called and brusquely informed us that they do not take reservations for parties of four and that "maybe they could accommodate us," before launching into an unnecessary lecture about their 5+ policy -- essentially cancelling our reservation. Why do that to your customers? Unfortunately, it didn't stop there. When we arrived, he was again rude and dismissive, seating us at a tiny table in the corner of the bar that was clearly too small for dinner. Thankfully, the manager stepped in, rescued the evening, and moved us to the main dining room, where we ended up having a wonderful night with our friends. She also checked in throughout the evening to make sure our experience improved, and her professionalism genuinely turned things around. As for the food: we ordered the Smoked Fish Pate appetizer, the Grilled Salmon, and the Artichoke and Goat Cheese Ravioli. The pate was exceptional -- layered, balanced, and memorable. The salmon was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and refreshingly not buried under heavy marinades. The ravioli was also excellent. Dessert was a rich chocolate cake that capped off an otherwise delightful meal. The decor, service, and overall comfort were all A+. This easily could have been a five-star evening, but the owner's unjustified hostility convinced me that this is not a place I would return to.

He was assisted by servers who brought food from the kitchen. We had identical meals. The black lentil soup (soup of the day) was very good. We shared a wedge salad lettuce with halved cherry tomatoes, bacon bits and chopped fried onions and it was super. I'm not big on dressing as a whole, but it was quite flavorful. We each had the smash burger. It's two thin patties made from sirloin and ribeye coated with cheddar cheese placed on chopped lettuce and tomato, resting on a fresh roll. It was hot and so juicy and delicious. The only drawback for the entire meal was that the fries were over cooked. For dessert my wife had the apple pie with ice cream, I had the brown sugar cake with coffee ice cream. Both simple, yet scrumptious. Overall a delicious meal, it seemed expensive, but we had wine. FYI, we saw others being served the fish and chips (Cod) and it looked great.

Damon Baehrel, which is named after the chef himself, is probably considered the most exclusive restaurant in the world. It is literally a one-man show, as Chef Baehrel is the one who cooks, serves, and hosts a 5-6+ hour-dining experience for his guests at his beautiful home on his 12-acre property in upstate NY. As most know, this restaurant is booked solid until the year 2026, and they have not been taking any reservations/adding parties onto their waiting list since last year/'14 (this is for an indefinite period of time) - you bet your tootin' bootin' that I felt so victorious for bypassing others on the list by 11+ years!!! (Just note that it really doesn't matter 'who' you are, 'who' you know, and/or if you come equipped with a list of multiple referrals.) Known for his 'Native Harvest Cuisine,' every single item on his menu (besides the seafood that is brought fresh from Nova Scotia from his private supplier) is made/created/raised on the premise - when I mean every item, I mean EVERY item, from the flours, pressed oils, vinegars, breads, to the curing his own meats and aging his own cheeses! This restaurant is the epitome and the prime definition of what 'farm-to-table' should really be! We were welcomed warmly from Chef Baehrel, and I was super excited that we were his only guests for the evening - YES, IT WAS JUST THE 3 OF US, THE HUBS, ME, AND THE CHEF!!! (I think I literally sobbed right on the spot). Our super private dining experience was about 5.5+ hours, but actually flew right on by and was like a total dream - we were given a multi-course menu (about 24-26+ items, including some handful of extras since the Chef was just super excited in having us(!!!)), that featured seasonal, organic plants/fruits/vegetables/trees from his property, in addition to a lovely educational overview of each of the ingredients used for the dish. I just couldn't believe at some of the ingredients that he had used, and how each of them had a distinct flavor (and were all actually edible/okay for human consumption!) - it was amazing to listen to the experimentation, the time spent, the punctuality of harvesting such items throughout the year, and the multiple aging/preserving/curing process that he does. I had a lovely wine pairing with the multi-course dinner (delicious champagne, reds, whites, and dessert wines), while the hubs had homemade juice pairings made from the luscious fruits/tree saps (super delicious and refreshing!). The love, the passion, and the excitement from the chef was just purely an eye-opener, and this literally was the BEST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! BELIEVE THE HYPE (of the very few limited ones there are) - Chef Baehrel will change your life and exceed any and all expectations that you may/will have!!! You have to go there to experience it personally, as there are no words to describe such a unique experience - the overwhelming appreciation that you obtain in tasting the raw essence of the ingredients that are found around you was truly truly truly remarkable - Chef Baehrel is a GENIUS! Just note that there is no photography/video/recording equipment/note-taking allowed inside the restaurant, so PLEASE be respectful to the Chef (and, shame on those 'bloggers' who disregard/circumvent around this request/policy!). Damon Baehrel is the ultimate host, completely charming and engaging. My wife and I were the only guests and it was awesome! Not awkward at all. What I loved about the meal, besides his "Native Harvest" dishes, was that by the end of it you can start to understand his botany heavy food lexicon, as certain themes started to emerge. Stevia and clover as thickening agents, all sap everything, powders galore, nut flours, fermentation trickery, homemade cheese. Homemade everything! (except some salt and the seafood/wine). Hearing his insanely detailed and clever course preparations makes you feel guilty about eating all of these small bites in less than 30 seconds. Damon paces the meal perfectly, always happy to chat and answer your questions at length. He takes great satisfaction in his cooking and sharing his techniques. This meal is about learning the process as much as it is about eating, and both are better for it. There were some items that sounded cooler than they tasted, but overall each dish was solid. The highlights for me were the teal duck and the duck egg "creme brulee". I guess I like duck. If you are fortunate enough to get a reservation here come with an open mind and don't expect a rich fancy-pants food experience or you will be disappointed. PS - Leaving a one-star review for a restaurant you have never eaten at just because you can't get a reservation is pathetic.

That said, parking was easy and stress free, which is always a plus. This was our first visit as a party of four, and the service was superb. The attention to detail really stood out and was noticed immediately. Our waitress checked in at the right times, kept drinks filled, and made sure everything came out exactly as expected. Meals are made to order, so substitutions were no issue at all, and it was nice to see gluten free options available. When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away. It did not seem necessary on this particular evening, but I would definitely recommend them on a weekend given the size of the space. The food itself was excellent. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and the presentation across the board was impressive. Desserts are prepared by a pastry chef and were just as good as the rest of the meal. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that is to be expected for the level of service and atmosphere.
