Headed out to Northbrook, which turned into a drive to Crystal Lake. And with gas at a literal all-time high right now (might find it at 4.99 in the city, if your lucky; more likely 5.49+) you find cheap gas where you can. On this trip, it happened to be in Algonquin. It's a big station--I don't think they make small Thorntons stations. At Thorntons, though, you have to be tricky because they sell that E85 gas or whatever it is, plus some other kind of gas, which are cheaper than the standard regular/plus/premium unleaded. They advertise it in their signs, too, so you need to make sure you know which you're getting. They have the pumps color-coded--at least, this location does--so that helps, but if you're just looking at price you might not get what you actually planned. I've almost done that before and almost did here as well, so just pay attention. read more

Extremely clean and well lit when arrived. Gas stations were full of windshield wiper juice, and paper towels. When entered I was welcomed kindly and asked if there was anything I needed help with. The store was mopped, smelled good and was to get around. Location was right off the main drag so getting in and out was simple. Service was fast and friendly and I feel I received good value for the drinks, gas and ice I purchased. read more

Tonight I stop at the Thornton gad station Algonquin Rd next to Randall Rd intersection for coffee and few other items. What a pleasure that was to see for a change two young employees at 1 am ready to help and help older customer with a smile. Young lady Miranda ask me if I need water for my service dog on her own....... Young guy Zach seeing me looking for cream for my coffee and realizing there is no more cream in dispenser machine did apologize for inconvenience and rush to the back to bring some...... WOW!!!!!!! In this days I been overwhelmed seeing and experiencing that kind of service and willingness to help customers. Gas. My children always want to go with so they can make an ice cream cup with toppings. We have even passed up a visit to Menchies and Dairy Queen to grab an ice cream from here. Crazy,,,, I know. Disappointing that the Algonquin Rd location near Rt 25 doesn't seem to care about covid. Every time I go inside, there are customers without a mask and no employee says anything to them even though there are huge signs on the door stating a mask is required. Individual's ignorance, thoughtlessness, and lack of caring for the other people around them is why covid has spread and lasted so long in this country. Today was the third time I went to this station to get gas, and the third time I had an issue with the pumps and printing of receipt. The first time I could not get the pump to work and just put the cap back on and went across the street. The second time I had to go inside for my receipt. Today I had issues again with the pump but eventually it worked, but had issues with the receipt and ultimately left without my receipt because I had to go to work. I did notice the lady next to me having issues getting the pump going too - and she drove across the street. I won't be going back. read more

I'm usually a fan of Thorntons and have never had a problem at any others except the Algonquin Thorntons. Today me and my friend went to get gas and decided to get some snacks as well the cashier stared us down the entire time like we were going to steal something and it made me very uncomfortable. These gas stations have everything you would need, or just about. They have a variety of hot or cold food choices, and even car supplies you would need for your vehicle. Nice and friendly staff check me out quickly. Clean floors and lavatories is always a plus. You can guarantee I'll be coming to there gas stations only as much as I can. read more

2/1/2018 Thorntons in Algonquin had a faulty pump that sprayed gallons of gas everywhere because their shut off valve was defective. This was escalated to their customer service to review the footage, and because it was 2 degrees out and because I was in my car, they consider this that I left the pump. They will do nothing to reimburse me for the gallons of gas that came out of the side of my car like a fountain, the car wash that I needed to get urgently or the bottle of fabreeze that I needed to buy because I was on the way to an interview. Please spend your money elsewhere as you will be treated poorly by their customer service at the 800 number and store manager. read more

I have been to this location a lot since it is so close to my home never had an issue. I decided to buy a scratch off and ended up winning $10 so of course I go back to cash it in but decided to reinvest. I pick my tickets totaling $10 (2 $5 tickets) the cashier (Mike) was clearly in a rush to get me out of there because I got home and realized I got a ticket I did not pick a ($3 ticket and a $5 ticket) I call he answers and says he's going to put a random $2 on the side with my name in it. I thank him and go back later to get it. The 2girls working have no idea what I'm talking about and say it's not there obviously they did not work because I called the next day and a different guy finds it in seconds. Such a waste of time for a $2 ticket I just did not appreciate the lack of customer service. read more

Jack Elliott 1 review 15 minutes ago-Edit Walked in to get lottery play slips to fill out. Couldn't find 'em. Said to Mike behind the counter "Sir do you have lottery play slips" No answer. Just points in an abrupt motion toward the (nearly buried in a corner) lotto booth, as if it was really a problem that I asked such a question. My fault, I had no pen to fill out the slip. I said, "Sir do you have a pen I could use.?" Mike, again without a word, just tosses a pen across the counter to me. I took the pen, filled-out slips, returned his pen and paid my eight bucks for the slips, after which I said "Thanks sir, have a good day." Again, not a damn word from the guy. Nothing. AND no one was in the store but me. It was empty - -(I can understand why) - - I came back the next day and collected $20 I won on those lotto tickets. If Mike had been there I would have given the money to him in hopes he could have a better day and maybe smile and say "Welcome, good to see you" when people come in. If my employees don't say "Hi how ya doing" or something kind when people come in and do business I give them a warning,,,,SMILE, AND GREET or BE GONE! I don't tolerate ugly behavior.
