I find the Crystal Lake location to be excellent. I actually love coming here during the week. Gas is AWESOME and the attendant is remarkable. He always steps out to help. He's helped me a couple times now. I learned how to get an actual receipt. I use those paper receipts for Fetch, a gift card generated app. Gas is cheaper here than any other station in Crystal Lake. I thought I needed new all season tires on my car. Elijah, Ivvan, Eric and Johnny were super helpful. But they went above and beyond. I had paid for my tires and they pulled the car in. They called me when they saw I actually didn't need tires after all and let me know! Gave me a full refund. Terrible experience. I bought 4 new tires in July of 2025 and also wanted to buy tire sensors but the tire sensors were not in stock so they told me they'll call me when they're in stock. I set up appointments to get them installed everytime I went in they were still not in stock even though they told me they were. I went in like 6 different times to get them installed over a 6 month period and every time I went they didn't have them so it got to the point that management and staff told me they were going to install them for free and give them to me for free. They finally call me to get them installed because they were in stock and couldn't give them to me for free even though they told me they were. No leadership structure, no one knew who to talk to about these issues. They didn't seem to care that I spent the last 6 months trying to get these installed. Corporate or the store has not reached out to me even though they said they would. Within the 6 months they noticed the tire thread has already been warn out and wanted to replace them but the tire was "discontinued" so they didn't replace them even though they still sell/ have the discontinued tire on display for sale. I am a daughter/caregiver to my 88 year old mom. I purchased a membership for her, online, as she is housebound, on oxygen and in ill health. I went to pick it up at the crystal lake, il Sam's club, bringing her identifying information (state id, credit cards, etc) and even offered to FaceTime, They refused to give it to me stating that she needs to show up, in person. She can save a lot of money by buying wholesale products. Apart from that there are a lot of different varieties of products to choose from. They have nice and easy access to selection. Some of their products are on sale and have freebies and discounts. They also have good customer service. When I'm with my mom, some staff assist us until we buy everything we need. I had previously been a customer of Sam's for a very long time until they decided to close most of their stores in Cook County. After I finally escaped from Cook County in November, I was pleased to find that there was a Sam's located not far from my new digs. Since I am a creature of habit I decided to pony up the 45 bucks and become a member again. I have visited this store in Crystal Lake 5 times in the last month, as moving into a new house is not without it's various retail needs. Most of what I have come to expect from Sam's Club in the past is all present at this location. So if you are a longtime member elsewhere other than the layout much will be familiar. So all the delightful retired people with the samples in the food section. The ridiculously delicious rotisserie chickens. The comical 50 gallon drums of pickles for the food service folks. The $1.50 jumbo hot dog and drink after checkout. You know the drill, right? Sam's is a significant cut above it's sister Walmart in terms of both price for everyday items and in terms of quality for food items. Baked goods, preprepared items, meats, cheeses, etc. are all of much higher quality and buying in bulk saves money if you have the storage capacity. I bought a deep freeze when I moved into the new house. So I just waited until the meat went on sale and then stocked up. It can save you a fortune over the long haul if you do this. Sam's pricing cycles are fairly predictable over time. I just approached who I could tell was a Sam's Club veteran at the store one day (I could tell by the contents of her cart) and she gave me a quick run down. Customer service at this location has been on point so far. My checkouts have always been quick. My only minor annoyance is there can sometimes be a significant line at the door to get your receipt checked when you go to leave. I realize that during the X-mas season things can get crazy, so why not have an extra person to check receipts to speed the process along? Not to mention, it's not like these people really check much. They spend about 2-3 seconds scanning the receipt and mark it with a highlighter. Lastly, as a pro tip, always remember to top off your tank at the fuel center while you are in to shop. It is always at least 20-30 cents per gallon cheaper than elsewhere. I was stranded with a flat tire and had absolutely no knowledge on how to use the pump that came with the car (why we don't get a spare tire like the old days is beyond me!) and without hesitation, TJ and Eric from the Tire Center came to my rescue!! Beware of going to Sams club optical Crystal lake! They quote one price and change it without notice. Somehow I had an eye exam and they got my reading prescription with out ever having me read anything. Very fishy. The optometrist talks in circles and does not explain conditions well. If you have a need for a gallon jar of mayonaise or a 55 gallon barrel of 10W40, then Sam's Club has you covered my friend. They've got it all here, from cookware to cutlery, and tires to gasoline. Need a 60 inch LCD TV? Got 'em here too. Great deals on electronics and office furniture. Personally this is where we buy most of our meat though. I love their pork ribs and for the price that some Chicago rib joints charge for 1 slab, I can get three huge slabs here and cook them at home. (about $25) I also like to stock up on salmon here too. I also love their pork tenderloins which I use for pulled pork, which is like $1.28 lb. Come on a weekend and your likely to find a plethora of samples being given out too. If you're really hungry try the $1.50 hot dog / drink combo or a pizza slice. It's all pretty good here. If you don't have enough gas (after the meal) they have a gas station here too! Usually cheaper by about 5 cents than the surrounding stations. So come on down to Sam's Club and get yourself a lotta stuff! read more

Its the lame beer virus going on. They had the essentials here. Most are "1 per person". Which is fine cause thats all we grab anyways. Im not one to panic over the medias hyped up problems. Anyways for some reason my phones app membership and my physical card differed... my card said my membership was expired which i didnt think it did yet... i paid for it anyways 45bucks for the membership... then looked at my app and it said it expired in july? So somehow i had 2 accounts under my name. Which is super weird... Went to customer service and they refunded my 45bucks, canceled that cards membership and then got me a new card under my APPS membership. So im back to 1 membership ehich expires in July. My first horrible experience at this sams location and my last as I will never shop here again. While speaking to the cellular representative, Jason, as I had an appointment to pick up my iPhone X that I had preordered I wanted to make I would receiving the promo offer. Jason said no "it says right here in my computer the promo excludes the iPhone X since it's a hot item". I advised him the sales ad doesn't say it excludes any phone. I also advised the ad even had a picture of the iPhone X. I asked to speak with a manager and Said no. I asked for my drivers license back and my club card and said I will not be purchasing my phone. Got to my car and had to call the same club while sitting in the parking lot. I spoke with a manager by the name of Jerry, she said the promotion is for the iPhone X but it's only on Number 11th. That is fine with me the part that made me upset is how rude Jason was. I called corporate and they looked at the same ad and said it doesn't exclude any model. They called the store and spoke with Jason and he said I didn't ask for a manager. I love how people lie, what was the reason for me calling the store to speak with a manager while sitting in the parking lot? So Jason also told the corporate rep that the iPhone X is excluded. So false advertising and rude employees? What a great way to run a business. I will never shop at this location ever again. I will take my hard earned money to Costco and hope they have better customer service. I will be canceling my membership also with Sam's club. Finished speaking with John the store manager. He told me that my preorder phone has been sold. So, basically I tried to give Sam's Club my business and I got screwed. I was treated like trash, my preorder has been sold and I'm walking away empty handed. I spent so much time on this, waking up early to preorder, leaving work early to make my appointment and several emails later. I will never shop at Crystal Lake Sam's club again. This place has severely gone down hill. Scumbag salesman trying sell you who knows what is beyond infuriating, the people who work there agree but nothing is done about it. Even left a comment card in the box at the exit from the suggestion of the person who checks the receipts with my phone number on it and the manager never even bothered to call me back. Was there yesterday checking myself out (they recently added more self check out lanes, next thing you know we'll be stocking the shelves too) and there were 3 employees at the self check area standing around gabbing about this and that meanwhile there are carts flowing out into the parking lot. Scumbag salesman have now been positioned at the entrance, I mean 25 feet from it where everyone walks in. If Sam's was smart they would analyze the areas that these scumbags are in a find out that sales of products in that area have to be significantly reduced as well as foot traffic and sales in those areas. Management clearly only cares about the almighty dollar it is extremely clear at this location. But in summary, if you want to go to a Sam's that has shopping carts overflowing out of the corals in the parking lot, scumbag salesman positioned about 20 feet from the front door and throughout the store and management who could care less about the customers feedback then this is the place for you!! Michele came and got our payment information and returned with our order even loading it into the car. We asked if it was okay to tip her tip which she replied "we are not allowed". Why a family of 2 and a half who usually buys organic & local would ever in their right minds have a Sams Club membership is beyond me, but we do. Actually, a friend gifted it to us because he obviously thinks we like to buy our mustard in 10 gallon drums and wipe our faces with 5,000 napkins at a time. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Well the Hubs, baby & I ventured to Sam's on the weekend before Christmas, which was probably our biggest mistake. With the new cell phone laws going into effect Jan1, we wanted to make sure that we were equipped to finally communicate hands free (spoiler alert, we're still looking for a good headset). Within 5 minutes of flashing our membership card, I started to feel anxiety creeping up on me. We literally circled the electronics department like a couple of sharks with bad senses of direction 3 times before finally finding a worker and asking for help. Turns out everyone else had the exact same idea as we did, because they were sold out until "tomorrow" and like hell I was going to venture back into this moshpit of a shopping experience before Christmas again. We decided that we hadn't had enough punishment and opted to roam the aisles to see if we could find anything that we couldn't live without; I mean, it would be a waste of a cart to leave empty-handed, right? Fact: Sam's Club does not carry Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Sweet Baby Ray's, anything resembling natural/organic baby diapers and/or wipes (or most organics for that matter), organic eggs, or organic berries. What we did walk out with was a lifetime supply of paper towels for the low low cost of $20. Highlight of the trip = finding a roll of Christmas wrapping paper that I'm pretty sure could circle the globe and then some. In the end, the hoards of people crowding the aisles and also walking aimlessly was not worth the bulk. I'm not really sure what we are going to do with our membership for the remainder of the time that we have it, so let me know if your dog needs 200 lbs of kibble & I'll see what I can do. read more

I've been a Sam's Club member for many years and have genuinely been pretty pleased with the service and selection. However, yesterday my wife stopped in the tire department to see if she could get a nail removed from the tire and patched. The nail was right on top of the tread and not near any sidewall. Not only was she told the tire couldn't be repaired, but was told since the car was AWD that she would need 4 new tires. ($600) The existing tires only had about 20K on them. The car is not AWD, and even if it was, I've never heard anything so absurd. A trip to Goodyear $27 and 15 minutes later, the tire was safely repaired and we were back on the road. The tire techs at Sam's are either very dishonest, or lack general knowledge of what they are doing. Very Disappointed! read more

I should preface this by stating that we're already Costco members. My mom got some super-cheap Sam's membership deal and she decided there was no harm in having both, so we went into Sam's to figure all of that business out. Everything seemed a little disjointed from the get-go: from us having to bring things up/reiterate to the customer service girl while we were getting our cards (she seemed a bit spacy) to waiting at the eye counter for a quick question without being helped or acknowledged for several minutes. The store itself was alright: some things are cheaper than Costco and some are more costly, so if you have both memberships you'd have to price-compare. With the exception of international cheeses and coffee, I didn't find the selection at Sam's to be as good as Costco's. I also didn't notice any store brands (like Costco has Kirkland's). While we were shopping at Sam's, we both decided we needed to go to Costco to get the things we like that weren't offered at Sam's. So, we did. Overall...meh. I suppose I'd go to Sam's if there wasn't a Costco around and I NEEDED some giant quantity of something. But I think once you go to Costco, it may be hard to adjust to Sam's. read more

For business owners, this place is good if you need quantities of stuff which fall between retail and dealing with a direct distributor (or going directly to the meat, fish, or vegetable markets) Overall this location is good. Normally I enjoy my trip to Sams club; free foodie samples, big spacious warehouse floor plan, big commercial sized products On todays visit I get stopped by the greeter/card checker asking me if I had my card. I was like yah and showed it to him. I mentioned on a previous visit I was told that members didnt have to show a card to get in. He said they basically started checking cards again. I was l like uh ok. Seriously 5 other people walked in after me and he didnt bother checking their card. Naturally I'm feeling kinda singled out so I approached one manager and was directed to another. They said the same thing and I'm like my problem is the selective card showing policy not the fact that they changed the rule. Whats confusing is when I make a purchase- whether it be self service r an actual cashier I have to present my card. So u cant even buy anything even if u tried...so far as I know which would b messed up if the rest of us a paying a yearly membership fee n some people dont. read more

I was there with my mom today attempting to order a cake. My mom is somewhat bilingual but we thought that because a hispanic employee had approached us that our experience would be that much better. However, she had very bad attitude and was making faces at us as if she was annoyed to be helping us. She was not offering her help at all she was just very blunt and very rude in her tone of voice also. We understood that they did not offer that type of cake that we wanted but she was rude regardless. When we clearly accepted that we would look somewhere else she proceeded to walk away from us and not even thank us or wish us a good day. I'm not the biggest fan of huge-box stores, but this one is definitely a decent one for food availability. My only issue is the constant barrage of sales people at kiosks trying to stop you and sell you something, badgering you at the register to upgrade your membership and pay more money for it, and hounding you as you walk out the door at the receipt checking person. I remember when you used to be able to shop and leave. Now you're constantly dodging it even throughout the store at the ends of the aisles, too. Does Sam's really need to sell space to these people that badly? read more
