I had a pair of jeans taken in at the waist and I paid for the cheaper type but she did the original way which is more expensive and looks much better. I also got a pair of athletic mesh pants hemmed and she did a very good job. My only complaint is I find the prices quite high. read more

I had a brand new wool coat from Aritzia that I desperately needed to get altered. The sleeves were about 2-3 inches too long on me. I've been looking for a tailor in Vancouver for a while now but, truth be told, was too scared to trust a new place with such an expensive item. I have had two items altered so far - the first is a puff sleeve shirt with frilly sleeves that I wanted to get shortened and the second is an Aritzia Only Coat with a pocket where I removed the stitches from the wrong seam (lol) and the stitching had to be redone from within the inside of the coat. I was very very pleased with the high quality results for both of these items! I got exactly what I wanted both times. For the Aritzia coat, I was lucky that I sent the item in the morning of and was able to pick it up in the early afternoon! Really happy with this place. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL... all I can say. The first experience was when my husband brought his suit, he was given a week for pickup, however; when he went back a week later, she did not even get started on them and the worst part is that she did NOT even call to notify him that it was not ready. The second experience was with hemming which we were given "1 WEEK" which I find way too long just for hemming and costed $36! When my daughter went to pick up, she was told to wait and she did it right then and there after I even called her to let her know that my daughter was coming at certain time on that day. The worst part of it all is for some reason the pants was too short and when I called her, she was very aggressive and adamant that it was not her fault at all and said there was nothing she could do and she would not even consider issuing any refund or helping. I did not even ask for a refund and had no intention to ask but what got me the most is that she did not even try to help in any way. She even told me if she could help, she would charge me again and even more. Consider my horrible experiences with her, I remained calm and did not get upset at all over the phone but she was not sympathetic at all and trying to help in any way one bit. She told me she has been running this business for 8 years and it is just mind boggling to me... all the reviews are good too but seems like most of them are her regular clients. NEVER GO HERE. SHE IS SLOW, EXPENSIVE, AND PROVIDES TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I wasted a pair of pants and $40 (including the tip) for the terrible hemming job she did because of this place. For this place, I would not even give one star if there was an option of ZERO star. read more

I took a jacket in for sleeve shortening. She charged me $60 which I thought a bit steep. She explained it was complicated because the seams were double stitched and the sleeves were tapered so required extra work. Two weeks later I picked up my jacket and it looked like she just cut the cuff off and rolled it up. She didn't even use a color matching thread. The sleeve seams were not adjusted at all. The stitching was uneven and sloppy. Really disappointed in the work since I chose this shop according to Yelp reviews. read more

I live in downtown but I always take my suits and jeans to Threads for my alterations. If you want to make a suit look more modern or have a more comfortable fit, you'll be in luck with Mike. Mike is really good in providing his insight and consultation. I found him to be very transparent in his pricing and also providing his recommendations (things not worth fixing as well). My experience at Threads Fashion Alternations was horrible to say the least. I have waited to post this, because it was such a negative experience. I first brought clothes here because of favorable reviews on Yelp and because it was on my way home from work. I brought in a skirt to test and I was happy with the results. During my next visit, I brought a dress and a few other items, among them a sentimental jacket (the one my dad was married in) which I wanted to made to fit myself. From this point on, all deadlines given to me to pick up items were missed. I first came in to pick up a dress that I planned to wear at a wedding rehearsal dinner, which wasn't ready (until after the wedding was over). I was able to pick up the dress and other items later, except for my jacket. I should point out that the hem on my dress was also uneven. Over the next 8 months I waited for my jacket to be finished. During this time, I came in to pick up my jacket during each deadline given and each time it wasn't ready. My jacket, to say lightly, was butchered. I was measured multiple times and the jacket was cut too small for me, even though it began with ample room. Extra fabric needed to be added to finally complete the jacket.....8 months later. I was refunded all my money, but this money won't replace this jacket with significant sentimental value to me. I would advise anyone to think twice before bringing any items here. read more

Good results with terrible customer service. I came here specifically because of this shop's Yelp rating. I did get what I paid for, but I was extremely disappointed with the overall service I received. If the customer service was better, I would agree - the service for the value is worth 5 stars. Here's the experience I had: I took a dress in for a simple zipper replacement. They gave me a pick up date 12 days later. I initially thought this was a LONG time for such a simple service, but was told they were busy so that was fine. I was going to be out of town when it was supposed to be ready, so I said I would come in after the long weekend (a full two weeks after my drop off). The morning of my scheduled pick up, I get a voicemail saying the tailor has been sick and he hasn't gotten to my order yet; but that it will for sure be ready Friday after 1pm (18 days after I brought it in). My boyfriend has that afternoon off, so he went at 2pm to get it. He was told that the tailor who provides this type of alteration hadn't come into the store yet, but if we came back around 5 it would be ready. We were driving to Whistler that afternoon, so even though I was annoyed it still wasn't ready, I resolved myself that I'd just get it when we returned to the city. Monday comes around, my dress has been with the store for a full three weeks, I get another voicemail saying it won't be ready until closer to 6pm. I call at 12:30 to ask what is up with my dress! I speak with the tailor directly, and while he is apologetic, it's a very insincere apology along the lines of "yeah, sorry, we're busy". He promises my dress will be ready by 3pm. When I finally make it to the store to get my dress, there's a note on the pick up slip saying "MUST BE READY 1PM MONDAY" Meaning it took this tailor 3 weeks to do 20 minutes of work. He was there when I picked it up and I said to him that while I didn't have an event that I needed it for, I found this to be unacceptable business practice as they were the ones who said it would be ready within 10 business days originally and then repeatedly ignored this. His response "yeah, it is." I like to think I'm generally a very sympathetic customer, but I found the attitude of this store very insincere, and like they didn't care about me or my business. I'm very disappointed because I'd love to find a reliable tailor in this city :( read more

I ordered a few suits from Indochino that didn't fit quite right so I needed to search for a tailor who has experience with them. Threads popped up in the search so I decided to check them out. The pinning process went OK and I was told they would be ready in about a week - no problem so I paid up front. I called to confirm if they would be ready for pickup, which they were. The problem started when I get a phone call saying that I will be charged more for the work that was required. Ok not a big deal, but the real problem happens when I get a second call saying that one of the alterations is not recommended, so we decided not do it, but there would be an additional charge for not doing it??! Makes no sense to me. Mistakes happen, but waiting until the day of pickup to add charges with 2 seperate phone calls is not a great way to have a happy customer. read more

I brought my wedding dress in for dry cleaning (the train and the bottom of the dress was filthy from the photoshoot in the park and from the rest of the wedding festivities). Not only was it returned looking brand new, but it was returned on a hanger with a bust to help keep the shape of the strapless sweetheart neckline--awesome! Pricing for the cleaning was very reasonable (given the material and beading details). My husband also brought in jeans for hemming, and he was happy with the results. In addition, the owner, Mike, is friendly and takes the time to answer questions and to make suggestions for your garment concerns. Definitely my neighborhood go-to dry cleaner! read more

Great price for work, done two days before scheduled, and friendly helpful staff. Done deal. I just purchased a brand new wool jacket from Sitka that needed to be taken in a bit (got some darts in the back) and biking commuter pants from Mission Workshop that have four way stretch that needed to be hemmed. Both were expensive garments. Both alterations were executed expertly. I live downtown in Yaletown, and most of the tailors down here aren't actually tailors - they are laudromats which happen to have sewing machines. I went with Threads due to it's reputation and informational website. Their service is definitely worth the drive. read more

The only thing more shocking to me than the owner's lack of skill as a tailor is his disregard for any level of customer service. When we first spoke I asked for my suit pants to be taken in through the leg where they were a little loose. He said to me that he would be able to do it without a problem. After waiting 8 days I went to try them on. They were not taken in the they way they had been marked when his assistant fitted them. Fabric was bunching up at the side of the knees - sticking out on one side and pushing in on the other. When he came to look at the problem he said that it was because the hem was too long and that he knew how to fix it. He said that he needed to make them shorter so the fabric would pull down where it was bunching up. I said ok, so long as my socks would not show. I emphasized this point more than once. He agreed. The end result is my pants still bunch at the knees, the pants are now way too tight in the legs and the hem is so short that my socks clearly show while standing. I have had to visit the store 3 times and when I ask to have the hem brought down he told me that I'm wasting HIS time, and refused to fix my pants or refund me my money. Then he threatened me with calling the police if I showed up at his store. All of this while I had never raised my voice nor been uncivil in the least. I have had many of my clothing items altered here and repaired. I have been extremely pleased with the service and quality of work. I also bring my some of my more expensive collared shirts to Threads to be pressed and laundered. As I like to keep my clothes sharp and like to take good care of my things. I have always been pleased when my clothes are returned to me exactly as I like them to be. I've also brought some woolen and fur items here to be cleaned and Threads has always done their best to accomodate. I recently brought two articles of clothing to another alteration place because I was not in Vancouver and needed some things of mine cleaned. And the other place did not do a good job and actually wrecked my clothes. So I just wanted to take a minute to give some appreciation to Threads for their expertise work and polite service. This place seems nice........seems. Gave them pants to taper and hem. Pants came out too short. Seams still coming out. Not to mention the taper was uneven on either side! Mentioned it to the guy and says the job was perfectly done. Doesn't offer me compensation then threatens to call the cops after I ask for a refund. WTF??? Brought in a couple items for alterations. Sleeves on a dress were too long and a top needed to be shortened. The dress sleeves were originally gathered at the wrist with a cuff. I was asked if the cuff was necessary and I said it was fine without. When I picked the dress up (waited 20 minutes outside for the store to open late) the sleeves were cut too short and the gathering was gone completely. They ended up being wide, hanging open sleeves. Completely ruined the dress. The simple top shortening? Totally uneven. I won't use this shop again. read more

I had my silk blouse taken in and sleeves shortened. The sleeves were altered too narrow, such that I could no longer roll it up anymore. Secondly, with the blouse taken in, the bust area became too small for me, and my silk blouse ripped around the chest area. My blouse is now completely ruined and it is one of my favorites. Threads did a terrible and I will not be bringing anything back. I have since been flagged that this comment is fake, as silk blouses are not accepted according to the owner. Well I can bring the blouse in, and I'm sure you can look me up on your system. I am not aware of the difficulty on handling fabric types as I am not a seamstress. With that being said, I should have been advised that silk blouses are not accepted or that the blouse should have been checked for the type of material. Frankly, I remember the owner saying not to take the sides in too much because the material doesn't have much stretch (so this indicates to me that the owner had an idea this was a delicate fabric). read more

I concur - customer service here is lacking among staff and the turnaround is really slow. And more than that, they don't seem to be very experienced at even basic work like hemming retaining the original hem - did a sloppy job. Glad I didn't take in anything more complicated. The only up was that I was able to get environmentally friendly dry cleaning here. But the rest was just not worth the wait. I'm actually updating this review after looking at the other pair of pants I had hemmed here. They are all wrong! I specifically asked the owner and staff member to retain the original look of the jean-pant which had a very wide hem - maybe 2-2.5 inches. I even discussed with them using the hem to turn the pants up to wear with flats. They completely removed the wide hem. Now, because I picked these pants up a month ago and just looked at them now, (I had a medical emergency that had me out for a month) I'm out of luck and out a BRAND NEW pair of Theory pants. Go somewhere else or you'll be sorry. read more

Four days later, I received a call that the cost had increased as they had misquoted me. They have just lost a customer. I brought my wedding dress to Threads to alter. I took Mike's advice and went from a zipper to a corset back and shorten the front part of the dress so I wouldn't be stepping on my dress while walking. It's not easy to alter the length of a wedding dress especially if its a lace dress but he did a great job! Price and customer service was great! Thanks Mike, I would recommend to anyone. read more

Very unfortunate experience at threads. Brought in a dress shirt to be altered, as it was to big from the hips to the chest. I even brought in a made to measure shirt for him to see how I wanted it to fit. He assured me it was no problem, measured the shirt on me and said it would be ready in 3 weeks. He did point out that the arms were also to big and suggested bringing them down a bit as well. Good suggestion, I was hesitant at first but soon realized he was right. In 3 weeks, received a call asking me to wait another week. No problem. Came to pick up the shirt and it was significantly to small. Not to small in that it wasn't the style I wanted, it was so small around the waist that it pulled significantly and was completely unwearable. He wasn't there, but his associates said they would have him do what he could to fix. Was ready in another 10 days. Not much can be done to make a shirt bigger again as the fabric is gone. He maybe was able to let out 1/2", shirt was still way to tight. He admitted it was, and he wasn't happy with it, and offered to give me half the cost of the alteration back (aprox $20, representing approximately 5% of the cost of a new Brioni shirt to replace it). I was too distraught to argue or fight, and certainly didn't care about $20 at this point, so simply left. Perhaps for pants hemming he would be fine, but this was a terrible experience for me and a ruined shirt that is now sitting at the salvation army. I would highly recommend another tailor for anything more complex than hemming. I gave him 2 stars instead of one because 1.) He did point out that the sleeves were to big 2.) It shouldn't matter, but he was a nice guy and seemed genuinely upset he had ruined my shirt. I took the rest of my shirts,a tux and suits to a competitor farther down Cambie. read more

On Fri I did my 1st fitting and it was BAD. The sides were taken 1.5 inches MORE than the measurement and thus he had to do it again... I was super worried as I didn't know if he left enough fabric for mistakes like this. Can you image after 3 measurements (equal 3 separate visits for me) and he still didn't get it right? It's totally off so the zipper couldn't even go up! And even worse. NO apologies whatsoever. NO compensation for all the mistakes he's made. For me: that's it. I have to agree with all the poor reviews on this site. The "eco friendly" dry cleaner that they use ruins customers' clothing!! I brought in one black skirt for dry cleaning which was was completely ruined, and the owner Michael initially offered to compensate me, and then flip flopped on his agreement, and blamed the skirt's fabric as a reason for the skirt's damage. I also brought in a winter coat and a smaller winter jacket for dry cleaning and the dry cleaning shrunk the sleeves on both clothing articles. Michael agreed to lengthen the sleeves on both the coat and the jacket, as a way of compensation, but in the end, only lengthened the coat sleeves and not the jacket. When I brought this to his attention, he was insistent that the jacket was also done, when it clearly was not. Michael CANNOT be trusted to do, what he says he will do!! Where is his professional integrity?? Above all, DO NOT USE their eco friendly dry cleaners as it will ruin your clothing! read more

Bought a suit a while back and took it here to get a more fitted look as it was a bit bulky on me. The tailor here was great. Took up the length of the jacket and took in the sides so that it fit just right (pants and jackey). It took a bit longer to finish than what I was originally told but it came out great. Well worth the $100 buck investment. Friendly service too. read more

I just had a suit jacket tailored here. Staff was friendly and prices were pretty standard (I think). I had the arms shortened and the back taken in and it cost me $90 with tax. The tailor, Mike, was a young guy who gave some great advice and seemed to really know his stuff. The turn around time was 10 days. The jacket was supposed to be finished by Thursday at 1pm, but I received a call at 12:50pm saying that it wouldn't be ready on time. However, when I went in to talk to Mike at 2pm he offered to finish the jacket that afternoon and personallycome drop it off at my apartment downtown. I thought this was pretty cool and did make up for the initial delay. Jacket looks good and I'd recommend Threads to others. read more

I will never ever EVER bring anything to this place again and I highly recommend others to go elsewhere as well. I have no idea how they've managed to keep a five star rating this far. There is a good chance the other reviews are fake. We dropped off a bridesmaid's dress to be taken in a little bit on each side. The dress is not a complicated one, the seam to be taken in is literally no more than 5" in length on each side. We dropped it off over one month before the wedding day in July and they told us it would be ready June 26th. My bridesmaid was not able to get there until June 28th and on a whim my mother decided to call in and make sure the dress was ready. They couldn't find the dress when she called - they lost the bridesmaid's dress. They called back when they found it to only say - it hadn't even been touched yet. OK fine. A week later myself and my bridesmaid come in and she tries the dress on... I can't even get the zipper up (and no she didn't gain weight between the fitting and getting the dress back - she's a tiny personal trainer!). I try to do the hook first and it rips right off! So when I call out, "excuse me the dress doesn't fit it's way too tight." finally the tailor comes over and agrees. He says he can have it done by the end of the day but it would be better if we came in the next day (Saturday) to pick it up. I told him I wouldn't be able to get it until Tuesday on my way to work and at this point my bridesmaid will be out of town until the 12th of July (so it better fit). I show up Tuesday July 3rd to pick up the dress on my way to work as agreed upon... and they have lost the dress... again. When they finally find it, surprise surprise it hasn't even been touched. They said the tailor will call us the next day. No one calls. My mother takes over as I am busy and she calls them. They lost the dress yet again (that's 3 times they have misplaced the dress). When they find it they say it still has not been done and the tailor will be coming in later that day (it's 3 pm and they close at 5 ?!). No one calls. My mom calls them back two days later and again they say the tailor is not in but he should be coming in later that day. At this point my mom tells them that this is ridiculous, the wedding is less than two weeks away and they have not only lost the dress three times, done the alterations wrong, had the dress sitting in their store for a month, but now they haven't even been able to fix their mistake on time. At this point she tells them that if the dress doesn't get to her ASAP and perfectly altered then she is going to report them to the better business bureau as a front because no one in their right mind runs a legitimate business like this. The next day the dress is suddenly all ready and properly altered. All in all, poor results (we actually have to fix the halter portion of the dress ourselves because we don't dare put this dress back in their hands), terrible business practices and poor customer service. read more

Have had a very bad experience here. I brought in my wedding dress for some minor alterations. (Not your typical gown, just a regular dress that is white.) Brought it in on a Saturday and asked for the very top of the sides to be brought in and to bring in the shoulders a bit since the neckline was gaping a bit. The woman suggested we should shorten the straps to fix the gaping neckline instead. Sure, she's the expert, so we went with her suggestion. I also asked for it to be cleaned and was told it would be ready in 9 days--a Monday. I told them that would be ok, but I needed it by the Thursday since I was leaving town. So on the day I was supposed to pick it up, I called ahead to confirm it would be ready. The man on the phone told me, "Oh it's not ready. I'm working on it now, and then we'll have to send it out for cleaning. You can pick it ip Wednesday." Good thing I had called to check. I went in on Wednesday, and the man tried to just give me the dress and send me on my way. I said, "Shouldn't I try it on?" So I did. They had taken in the entire side instead of just the waist--couldn't breathe. Bringing up the shoulders meant there was no room for my arms in the arm holes. It was a disaster job. (Note on the cleaning: stains were faded but not gone. It's an old dress though, and who knows how old the stains are, so that's probably to be expected. Also got the zipper replaced, and that was fine.) They agreed to fix it, and I asked if it could be done for the next day since I was leaving town. "We're very busy, but I'll try my best. I'll call you when it's ready." Never did get that call. When I returned a week and a half later, I called on the Monday afternoon to check if the work had actually been done. "Oh yes, it's ready!" So I left work early. Got to the store to see a sign posted. "Closed early. Went to see my nephew." That would have been nice to know when I called! Unless it was an emergency, that's not acceptable. So I returned the next day. The dress still doesn't fit. It's almost as if no work has been done at all--all the same problems are there. He says he'll fix it for Saturday. So I show up again mid-day on Saturday, around noon. The woman here says that Michael had just called to tell her about my dress, so the work isn't started. She'll do it after she finishes what she's working on now. She calls me to come back when it's done--it didn't take long even though I apparently had to wait days for it (after already waiting for weeks). I look at the dress and can see from where the stitches are pulled out that she has just put it back to exactly where it was when I first brought it in. I try it on, and sure enough, same problems I started with. At this point I've had enough and just want to take the dress to another tailor. Only problem is I apparently have to pay for the sides being taken in and the shoulders being brought up. "We did the work three times!" I paid for the cleaning and zipper replacement that weren't botched, but there's no way I'm paying for the rest of it. There's no manager to speak with, so now they are holding my dress hostage. But I only have a week left to get this dress altered for my wedding and need to get it to a new tailor now. The woman did offer to try again, but three tries is enough! I will never bring anything here again, even for just a simple hem. TLDR: Altered my dress incorrectly 3 times, never had it ready when they said they would, and are holding my dress hostage as they demand payment for unsatisfactory work! Don't go here! UPDATE: I wrote this while I was sitting in the shop waiting for the woman to get a hold of the manager. He finally called after two hours and insisted that I pay. I refused. What a joke this place is. Put in my clothes for cleaning and alterations, came back a week later and nothing was done. Clothes came back dirty and I'm not even certain the zipper I asked to be replaced was even done! No enthusiasm from the staff and un apologetic attitude. Don't go, you'll be sorry. read more
