This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.

Although the kids were not able to get to the pool this year, the camp was able to make up for the temporary change. The price was reasonable and manageable. The program included valuable karate lessons taught by certified instructors. This has always been a great service. The diversity of the program has always been reflective of the county. Overall, the Okinawa Dojo summer camp program met and exceeded expectations by providing my little family member with a fun, healthy and safe environment.

Great instructors and staff!…read more Instructors are dedicated and knowledgeable. Staff is caring and actually play daily with the kids, making them nice and tired for bedtime :). They also help with homework, taking one less thing off my mind when I get home. Manager Phil is a nice person, but direct. That may turn some people off, but I don't have any problem with him, I actually appreciate that about him. Kids play dodgeball, jump in the moon bounce, play with legos and playsets, older kids can play video games. You do sign a contract, however I have found that every one of my daycare/before and after care ventures require the parent to sign a contract. That way BOTH parties are protected. Overall, I think this is a great place for my son. He has grown and gained more discipline since starting.

Although I've been to the Catonsville Y before, I was mostly swimming at the time to prepare for…read moretriathlon. Now, I'm preparing for Hyrox so I see the gym with a different perspective. I like that they have a ski erg machine that's comparable to that used at the event. My favorite Y is the Weinberg location, and that one is different. They also have a rope, which is useful for training the shoulders/arms. It's just in an awkward place. When the roped is pulled out to full lenght for use I felt like I was in the way. I tried two different angles and both were the same. Oh well. Sorry, not sorry. It's a big Y! They've got several sections of weights, machines, cycling rooms and the..... I guess I'll call it, Crossfit room (which is small and a bit awkward, but it works). They have weighted bags for the lunges up to 40lbs. They also have plenty of (matching) kettlebells. AND, they have weighted balls for the ball toss. The only thing missing is the sled. You can go to the Weinberg Y for that. I like this Y as well. There's plenty of room, which is good because it's much more crowded (even mid-day) than my other Y's. I was also glad to see the staff cleaning the weight rack. I mean, not just wiping it down. They removed the weights, wiped down the rack where the weights were sitting, and place the weights back. They were also removing the scuffs from the wall with the magic eraser. No wonder it looks so clean. And of course I can always count on the fireplace to chill at after my workout. Come check it out.

On a BCPS delayed start day, the facility did not clearly communicate any adjusted Stay and Play hours. The posted signage did not reflect the delayed schedule, and while staff observed me arriving with my child, this information was not proactively shared. I only learned of the adjusted hours after specifically asking. Clear and visible communication--especially on delayed start days--would help prevent confusion for families and improve the overall member experience. I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope it can be considered for future operations.
