'Just' an excellent neighbourhood Irish bar in Brooklyn. I was in the area on some family business, and this place became my home-away-from-home during my stay. Yes, the drinks are good value, and the place has all the trappings of a solid, traditional Irish pub, but what really makes the difference is the friendly, open attitude of the staff and the regulars. The regulars are remarkably diverse, in a very positive way, which means that nobody will feel they don't belong. Weekdays: A block away from the Bay Ridge Ave subway stop and close to many good open-late restaurants, Pigeons is perfectly located for an after-work drink. Swinging through those squeaky doors and sliding into a barstool is the stuff my daydreams are made of. The drinks are well made and dirt cheap, and there's a decent selection to choose from. If, like most people, you're coming here on your own, the bartenders are great at striking up a conversation so you don't have to awkwardly twiddle your thumbs//pretend to text while gathering your courage to speak to the guy/girl sitting next to you (just go for it already!). The crowd is a bit older, but that just means the music is better. No Top 40s playing here, thank god. Which also means there's no woo girls (see: HIMYM) here either, thank ALL the gods. Weekends: The weekend packs the bar, drawing in a younger crowd with karaoke on Friday nights, and usually a decent band playing Saturdays. Grabbing a seat at the bar can be difficult, but there's a handful of tables and a window ledge to sit at if that's your thing. It's good times with decent people, and the bartenders aren't annoyingly impossible to hail, despite it being busy. Bonus points for the women's restroom remaining relatively clean even though there's only one stall (just make sure you get on line before the OMG-I-have-to-go-NOW moment). Come in, have a good time, and don't be offended if I go out for a cigarette break while you karaoke to Rihanna. read more

Excellent pub. I have passed this pub for years never even thought of going in because i thought it a gay bar due to the name. Apparently I associate LBTG with 3 Pigeons why? IDK. I though it to be "Secret Code". Imagine how uncomfortable when I was ask to meet my friend there. Which made me feel like an idiot once I did go inside and met my friends new GF and found this place not to be anything but a good place to drink & chill. Cool people inexpensive shots. I went to the Pigeons for the first time it seems like in years. I walked in and it was like I never left. People knew my name and I was treated like an old time friend. I honestly can't remember beer tasting so good, the Coors Light on draft went down mighty easily. The bartender also gave made up special shots of a concotion he called a lifesaver (Midori liqour, vodka and pinapple juice). My favorite pub in Bay Ridge. Usually low key, Great bartenders, Pool table in the back room, 2 dart boards with house darts. Karaoke on Fridays, Trivia every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month and usually a live band on Friday. Love this cute pub. It caters to the local neighborhood which is diverse in terms of age. Pool table/separate room in the back, tables for sitting if the bar is full, cool bartenders, cheap drinks, and amazing music (although my boyfriend informs me that the music is apparently better on Friday karaoke nights). Oh yes, and the fact that they have karaoke nights at all. The environment seems very laidback and everyone especially the bartenders appear outgoing and friendly. I desperately want this to be my local pub. I live like 2 blocks from it and was excited to make myself a regular when I spotted it, low and behold the bar is terrible. I have since been 4-5 times for a stop in beer and or night cap, every time has been depressing and/or downright weird. Dirty bar, zero beer selection, rude locals, and not a young person in sight I am not sure who wrote those reviews maybe I am going on the wrong nights. Karaoke would be a good time if you could wrestle the mic away from the 50-something year olds singing glory day ballads... Lastly, and this will probably discredit this review for many of you, but random no tank top rule? I can respect the rule but it caught me off guard and I was just drunk enough for it to bother me. This is a good and grungy dive bar, who the fuck cares about apparel??? I will be taking my tank top and business up the street. read more

Ever go to a bar and want to yell at people "honey, it's not a freaking contest!" ? That happens to me a lot, but not here. It gets crowded and loud like any other bar at times, but it's still pretty laid back. Folks don't seem to come here to try really hard to get shitfaced, pick up dudes/chicks, show off how weird/cool/hot/rich they think they are, etc. As mentioned below, it seems to attract all types of people (well by Bay Ridge standards anyway), and as such provides a welcome respite from the silly pretentious hipster-ness of much of Manhattan and northern Brooklyn bars as well as the meatheaded-ness of the Ridge and surrounding areas. The drinks are relatively cheap, the space is big and relaxing, and the music is decent-- classic, nothing really innovative, but sometimes that can be reassuring. I can (and have) easily plant myself here at 6 or 7 and stay til 1 without planning to. What's more, people will be nice and not laugh no matter how bad you are at karaoke. read more

Chatty, friendly bartenders make this place a good choice for a pint right by the north end of bay ridge, almost into south Sunset Park. Its kind of like the first bar you hit, on your way to the Salty Dog and further adventures in bay ridge brosephland. Jolly Pigeons is tempered by bright lights, slightly elegant tavern/pub look, and big ass tap station where you can't even see the bartender when he's behind there. Suddenly he comes away with a beer. Miraculous. Its just kinda nice, not loud, a place to conduct business like gentlemen and gentleladies, and a great place to start. read more

Just moved to the area from Queens and this is definitely the most laid back bar I've visited. They have decent beers on tap (Blue Moon!) and not too expensive! Bar has a Queens feel to it. This place is really not my scene, but I met some friends here for Karaoke and it was a decent joint. The people were a very mixed group which kind of made it that much more fun in the social psychology sort of way. I had a good time, but I doubt I will be rushing back anytime soon. I can't believe I wasn't here until very recently. This is definetly a neighborhood bar. On fridays they have karaoke and the bar draws a pretty mixed crowd. The bar is big and has lots of seats. Drinks are pretty cheap which is one of the things I love about neighborhood bars. read more

I visited this place in the change of month to February, i must say its much more crowded than the last time on a Friday night, more people coming out in the cold weather. i don't know anyone here, but people who do know each other are very social. There are one or more who just sit there in a hypnotic state. The prices beat the anti social Yellow Hook Grille and Salty Dog, that to this day, I never stepped into. The pints are 60% less than the Hook and Salty. 3 JP has a slight bar room trouble maker problem, hopefully by the warmer weather this person will be ejected permantly. I've been drinking at 3JP for almost 20 years and the more things change, the more they stay the same. It is what makes a neighborhood bar. The bartender will remember your drink, even if he doesn't remember your name. It is easily the best bang for your buck and the bartender will buy you back, even if you're a jerk and don't tip, because he's just better than you, cheapo. If you go on a weekday, you sit and drink and people watch. If you go on a weekend, you never know what you get: 80's night? Karaoke? Game night? Live band? It's where I walk into when I don't have plans and always run into friends, some of which I have not seen in over a decade. It is the "Cheers" of Bay Ridge... If you look young, you will get carded, so please don't show up underage with your cousin's I.D. It is not a place that you go to "to be seen". If you show up dressed up, everyone will think you stopped in after a wedding. Just leave the attitude at the door. This is a true Brooklyn bar and if you piss someone off, they will punch you in the face...then grab you by the shoulders, explain to you why you deserved it, give you a friendly slap and buy you a Cider with a head of Guinness. Nice local bar. I been driving past this place everyday for the past three years on my way home from work, errands, etc. I was surprised they had a good mix of people. Three Jolly Pigeons is the oldest bar in Bay Ridge and a favorite with my friends. The crowd is mixed, the regulars are nice and welcoming and the bartenders are always friendly. I enjoy watching the rugby or soccer matches that seem to always be playing on the t.v.'s. There is a back room with a pool table and some benches and a couple tables. I have seen live bands play here and they are very enjoyable. The drinks are cheap too. If you are in Bay Ridge, I highly recommend this place for a nice cold beer. read more

this is a cool little neighborhood bar. they've got magners on tap, which is awesome. the bartenders are great too. the place is mostly full of locals, but they are very accepting of all sorts. it gets crowded sometimes, but there's usually seats available and there's a jukebox. great place to hang with friends, chat with locals, but not a place to really pick up chicks, tho sometimes there is an opportunity to meet girls read more
