This is a racist establishment. I was supposed to meet some friends of mine at this bar tonight. One friend of mine, a black man, got there a little earlier than the rest of us. Once he entered, the patrons had loudly said "No n***ers allowed here." The bartender said nothing in his defense. I am disappointed and embarrassed that this behavior was tolerated. I was born and raised in Bergen Beach, attended the local elementary school, and it is heartbreaking to know that a dear friend of mine was treated in this manner in my own neighborhood. My friend, understandably, wanted to move on and forget it happened, but I called the bar once we parted ways and was told by whomever answered the phone that "I wasn't around when that happened, there are plenty of black people who come here, I don't know what you're talking about" and hung up on me. This is unacceptable. I expected more from this establishment than a denial of what had happened. I have never in my life reviewed a bar/restaurant but I felt people had to know about this. read more

If I could give this place negative 10 million stars I would. This establishment embodies a level racism that I didn't even know still existed. I walked in and immediately was greeted with stares and snarls. My friend and I sat at the bar in an attempt to enjoy our night by ourselves, but we were harassed by a middle aged white man who made it his duty to make us feel uncomfortable. He kept verbally harassing my friend and I, to the point that we just decided to leave. Before that, we were refused service at the bar, because of our race. It's really sad that a place like this is still open and in business, especially so close to my home. It was heart breaking to see people like this still exist so boldly in our own communities. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR. Bill's Bar is a RACIST place that should not be in business. A very close friend of mine, who is African American, was verbally attacked by customers as soon as he entered the bar. He was greeted with derisive hooting and shouts of "the cavalry is here" before being told "no n***ers here." The bartender did nothing to stop it. This is disgusting and completely unacceptable. I wish I could say I was shocked by the inhumane and unjust way my friend was treated, but this bar is a very sad yet important example of the blatant racism that continues to pervade this country. I am sickened and will be telling everyone I know to stay away from this bar. read more

RACIST establishment!!! Do NOT go here. The workers who allow the mistreatment of minority patrons by the Caucasian patrons are the real problem here! They also show their true colors with their poor customer service, which if you ask me, is intentional. Judging by the consistent theme of racism within these Yelp reviews, it is apparent that there is a true issue here that needs to be addressed by management. Wow.... give this place -100 STARS! Completely racist bar. I was actually shocked. I was sitting there having a drink and a black young man walked in. This is a racist establishment. My black friend went to this place last night and as he walked in was called the n word by patrons in the bar. The bartenders or owners of the establishment did absolutely nothing to stop the behavior. How is it possible that this could happen in NYC? The most friendly bar I've ever been to. If you're from the neighborhood you just might see some people you haven't seen in years. Besides friends, I had beers with my old school lunch lady. Richie is great and when he's not working, he's got great people working. read more
