The trail had a dotted center line and a reminder of the courtesies to use while on the trail. The path I took was not shaded. I would say about a 1/4 of the path had rough bumps, and many of them were painted to highlight them. It was a decent path, but I didn't feel like there was much in the way of sight seeing.

We went in late November, when the cottonwoods are still glowing gold, and the whole riverside felt like it was an autumn paradise. The trail is flat and easy, with long stretches that let you really settle into the scenery-Rio Grande on one side, trees and little side ponds on the other. Our dog loved it. There's plenty of room to keep a dog on leash without feeling crowded, and enough side paths and textures (sand, dirt, leaves) to keep him interested. We saw ducks and geese cruising on the water, along with a woodpecker working a cottonwood trunk. It also turned into a really sweet date. There are quiet spots to stop, sit by the water, and just watch the birds and the current go by. It never felt unsafe or overly busy, just a steady trickle of walkers, cyclists, and other people out enjoying the trail. If you're visiting Albuquerque-or you just moved here and want to fall in love with the area a little bit-Paseo del Bosque is an easy yes.

Rinconada Canyon: Small parking lot, but free. We got there pretty early on a weekday so there was no issue, not sure what it would be like on a weekend. Be prepared for a sandy hike, and keep an eye out for snakes! We were a little worried when the first two signs indicated petroglyphs that we could barely see, if at all, but as you get deeper into the canyon they become much more numerous and clearer to see. Round trip hike is flat and easy, aside from the sandiness, but there is zero shade so be prepared.

This canyon has 3 separate trails for viewing petroglyphs; a 5 min, a 15 min, and a 1 hr. Maps for these are available at the Petroglyph National Monument (managed by federal gov and may be shut down due to the federal shutdown). I did the 15 min and the 5 min trails, these are not accessible trails for strollers or wheelchairs as they include stairs and walking through semi paved and unpaved rocky walkways. There are small signs throughout the trails including education information as well as briefs about some of the petroglyphs. Please do not go when it is raining or recently rained; the trails are sandy and become very slippery + the rocks become darker and it is incredibly hard to spot and distinguish petroglyphs.

The walk is flat, so it is an easy walk to just enjoy your day...and if you are lucky, you get a beautiful view of sunset and geese flying over the fields, too. I also like that they have plenty dedicated parking spots...so parking is never a problem. The only thing though is just that in the summer/on a hot day....it can get real hot...and there is just not a lot of shades that you can hide from the sun. So, best time to go is not in the summer...and probably best in the early mornings or evenings.

I'll start off saying what we all know but Tingley Beach is really not a beach…read more However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't check it out. In my experience, it's been a great spot for enjoy enjoying the beautiful weather and taking a brisk walk with friends. I do recommend being cautious about your surroundings and staying in the more populated areas as I've done a few volunteer cleanups in the area and as you get into the brush, you never know what you'll find. The views of the mountains are absolutely gorgeous and the wildlife are very entertaining to watch.
