A year in review. I purchased my Trek Domane SL 5 Dark Aquatic Gen 4 for $3,699.99 in June 2025. I…read moreowned a Trek bike in the past, and I bought that one for under $1000. I liked it so much that I decided to be a repeat customer. I really like to ride my bike and I use it for daily fitness purposes. The sales was no hassle, no pressure. They offered credit to finance my purchase, which I took advantage of. They also told me that a level once maintenance package was included with my bike. They encouraged me to use their app, Ride Club. I downloaded the app and was on my way. The bike is a smooth riding machine. I use two apps when I ride, the Ride Club app and Map my run. They both give slightly different information. Around November 2025, I brought my bike in for that maintenance service. Based on my miles, they suggested a level two service, and they would credit the difference of a level one that came with the bike. That worked for me. I don't recall how long they had my bike, but it wasn't more than a few days. I got her back and she was glowing. She looked brand new. I brought my bike back again in May to address a squeaky brake issue. They bled the brakes. I picked it up and then I had problems with my gears on my first ride. I brought it back to the shop. They made some adjustments, but it wasn't quite enough. I brought it back in again and they checked it in. They called me and said that some of the problem should have been discovered on a earlier visit. For that, they said they would cover the parts if I would cover the labor. I agreed. She is back to a well running machine. This has only been my bike shop since I purchased my bike. I love walking in there. I'm usually greeted and service is always on top of their business. Often, someone will open the door as I wheel my bike out. So nice, a great bunch of people.

Calling my sexist self out. Here's why…read more We'd known about this little bike park for years. Our neighbor, Grant, visited daily -- he's a BMX super-competitor, insanely talented. We'd never considered taking our daughter here until she was invited by a friend and, surprise surprise, she loved it. Yes, #girlsride too. It's disturbing to think I'd never considered a bike park a good spot for her pandemic play, but there you have it. For a public resource, this little lot of dirt is pretty rad. Offering three distinct levels of riding courses -- beginner, experienced and expert -- the area is nicely maintained, with a number of good, shady trees on the north end. There's also a small balance course, also well maintained, and lots of seating for lame-o dudes like me who already cracked some ribs trying this stuff as a kid. Covered picnic tables, open dawn 'till dusk, free to the public, what's not to love? Well, the male/female ratio, actually -- it's about 90/10. Time to change that, kiddo, let's load up the bike and go.

There's a beginner/kids pump track that is perfect for those who are wanting to get their feet wet. We stayed in this area however it is clear this park accommodates beginner to expert riders. Helmets are required. Most follow the rule and some don't. I would recommend having kids wear knee pads at minimum. I didn't realize this and my 6 year old got scratched up. Gloves wouldn't hurt either. My kids loved it and didn't want to leave. Bring snacks and drinks. No restroom. Have fun!

The Los Alamos Ski Club no longer owns Pajarito Mountain. While the club originally founded and…read morebuilt the ski area in the 1950s, it transferred management to a resort group in 2014 and sold almost all the land and infrastructure to Mountain Capital Partners in 2018. Despite selling the resort, the Los Alamos Ski Club maintains strong ties to the mountain and club members actively volunteer for trail clearing and forest maintenance. Despite the long and winding trip up the Mountain, Gayle and I enjoyed the scenery as we drove up the parking lot to take a look. It no longer looks like the family-run operation of years past, but it remains formable and maybe worth a special winter trip to check it out again.

Started at the rentals, they already had my skis and poles out and labelled, went up and got my boots, made a quick exchange for a size up- ski boots are hard to put on! Then rented a locker for our shoes (which when we came back proved to be unnecessary since everyone just leaves their shoes on the ground) Walked over to the lesson area and got placed in a group of beginners based on our zero skill level. They had a few other groups for those with more experience. We went through a ton of drills- one foot in, then the other, then will both. Worked on pizza/French fry positioning, wedge turns and horizontal climbs. Then headed to the magic carpet- would have been nice to be told what to expect when exiting - just stay loose and upright and walk out when off the belt. With 30 mins left of the lesson, I asked if we were going to go up the beginners lift, the instructor was psyched to take the three of us older kids The instructor slowed the lift for getting on and off to make it easier. Then taught us how to use the wedge turns to navigate down the mountain. Had a great time and feeling super accomplished! Couple notes- I bought ski pants/bib thing, went with a few layers on top with a rain jacket over, good gloves and regular sunglasses. Felt very comfortable and warm and happy I didn't spend any more on gear. For the food, you'll be better off bringing your own cooler. You can eat outside food in the lodge and they don't have alcohol, so if you're looking for a midday beer, you should bring some with you. I should have just got the beginner lift tickets, I wasn't ready after one lesson for anything else Overall great day and would totally come back!

I had been wanting to do a Balloon Fiesta kayak/SUP trip for awhile now. Cody, and his wife Karen,…read morewere really knowledgeable throughout this SUP trip about anything paddleboarding, about the river, how the company came to be and its name (it's "just Mountain Standard Time"), etc. He has tours almost year round from snowshoeing/ brewery, mountain biking, birding, and photography tours. Because of traffic, we left the parking lot about 6:15 am and returned just after 11. The water levels were low, but the SUP's did just fine in most areas. The cost of the trip was definitely worth it. We had about 14 in our group. And since the tour was only running the first week of balloon fiesta, it sold out less than a week after being advertised and I didn't get a chance to ask others if they wanted to go as well (but it was totally fine solo and everyone was friendly and welcoming). I didn't want to get wet, so I didn't try standing up for a first timer, but I feel like this trip gave me more courage to try standing next time and trying something new. The highlight of the trip was being able to see a few balloons splash n'dash. Also, Cody and Karen arranged a nice little setup with a paddleboard balanced on two buckets with a tablecloth over for a little breakfast of mimosas, a fire for s'mores, assorted granola bars, and hot water in a thermos for hot chocolate and coffee while we waited and watched for the balloons. I'd definitely go again (and wake up at 4 am). 2022 #41
