I swung by the Three Tarts on a Friday afternoon and wowza, they had a SUPER long line up outside. That's kind of when you know that the food is good. I waited in line for a while and when we got to the front (we were just looking for a snack), we saw that they only had a few snacks and cakes available. We grabbed two of the butter tarts and they were super nice, boxed everything for us and then put it into a paper bag. Wow, the raisin butter tarts were amazing! I usually personally do not like butter tarts, but wow, the crust was so flakey, full and buttery. I couldn't get enough of it. I was really looking forward to coming here after passing a few times and browsing the website. I finally made it in today. I was there 5 minutes after opening and was so disappointed! they only had two kinds of tarts (butter tart and pecan butter tart) a few kinds of cookies, one kind of bar and a few whole cakes. they had a cheesecake with a few slices left in it that looks dried up around the edges, one other pre sliced cake and a "day old" in the same case for sale. was quite strange and I chose not to get anything. I had been on their website and was ready to buy several things to try, I guess you have to pre-order them all as the only option? It was overall unappetizing and looked more like end of day display than fresh opening display. I even almost asked if what was on display was made today but just decided to leave. read more

I ordered a lemon poppyseed cake for a birthday and it was very yum! The cake was dense and moist. The lemon flavour really popped. Love love love this bakery! I'm not a big dessert fan but 3 tarts is wow! Ok let's start with their signature "milk tarts" they are heavenly delicious. They also have little pecan cookies that are DELICIOUS! We tried their lemon poppy seed cake and their cheese cake.. it's good but not wow as their pies and tarts! Stopped in here by fluke today and am so glad I did! The service was really great- staff were friendly and made some great recommendations. We ended up getting a Strawberry Rhubarb Tart and a Chocolate Pecan Cookie. I'll start with the cookie. It was a good size- bigger than my hand, but smaller than my face so I didn't feel bad eating the whole thing. It's consistency was nice, soft and chewy on the inside and a slightly more crisp outside. For me, it was great that it wasn't too sweet. I'm not a fan of overwhelming flavours, so it was a nice subtle treat without being too decadent. For someone with a sweet tooth, though it might be lacking a bit. Even a pinch of sea salt or something to give it a little extra flavour could be cool, but I enjoyed it as is! The tart was good! My favourite part was the crust- it was nice and flaky and had a nice sweetness to it. I'm not much of a tart or pie person (so much so that I can't tell much of the difference between the two) but this crust was enough to make me want seconds! The strawberry rhubarb filling was also quite pleasant. Again, it wasn't over powering or too tart like some can be, but it was nice and refreshing on a summer day. I really wanted to love this place. Looked very enticing upon entering. The pecan shortbread biscuits were very disappointing, filled with some very fatty/oily tasting cream of sorts. The shortbread dough did not have the texture I enjoy in a shortbread and I could not taste the butter. The scone was bland. Not for me. read more

The smell of fresh baking when I walked into Three Tarts was amazing. I could barely get to the display case fast enough and when I did I was pleasantly surprised by their prices and impressed by their combinations of flavours. I wanted a sweet treat to keep me going through a night of teaching and a cookie at $1 was perfect (in fact it meant I could get more than one...). If you are a chocoholic like me, try the double chocolate cookie, it is soft, gooey and full of chocolate. More original kinds include chocolate pecan, cranberry hazelnut and cinnamon mocha. Their tarts are perfect for taking to a dinner party and they have amazing combination like blackberry white chocolate...yummm! The only downside is that this is a take out place only: there are no tables to sit at, nor any coffee available. read more

I stopped by here a few times on my trip to Ottawa and every time it was delicious. I've had a few shortbread and gingerbread cookies. Very nice and flakey shortbread. A sugar tart (omg yum) and I bought a white chocolate clementine cheesecake to bring to my family dinner. Everyone loved it. It had a just a hint of clementine and the cheesecake was nice and creamy--but not too creamy. I'm sad I won't be just a few blocks away from this place anymore! read more

I loveeeeeee three tarts!!!!!! I used to come here as a kid before it moved to this new location but it has always been a favourite. My 3 faves are the cheesecake brownies, the strawberry rhubarb pie and the sour cream blueberry pie. The filling for the pies are so perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy, light and creamy, but my favourite thing about this place is how incredible their crust is. Pie crust to me is usually boring and just something to hold the filling but here the crust is like a sugar cookie and it fits so well with the filling. A pie from here has never lasted longer than 2 days at my house :) I could not recommend enough read more

We were very pleased with a cheese cake and fruit tart. Unfortunately lemon tart was a bit off. It had a distinguishable egg aftertaste, had to toss away what remained of it after initial try as no one in the family enjoyed it. We'll be back but avoid the lemon tart. read more
