I admit that I have been to Thrift Store USA in Norfolk Virginia multiple times, one reason I feel comfortable/fine with admitting is because of the quality selection and bargain prices of the clothes and books available. My most recent visit I bought a couple pairs of jeans and t shirts. The cashier scanning my items was pleasant to talk to and interact with. Pretty decent thrift store! It's very big and they don't waste any space. They definitely fill everything up and make sure it stays filled. Love the book area, pretty good selection with records in there. There is some furniture in the back corner as well as interior decor and dishes lines through the walls. Generally, I love this location. However, I was turned away 10 minutes before their scheduled closing time by someone at the door. When he stated they were closed, I questioned that it showed they closed at 7 and he said that they were already taking the last customer. If I was asked, I would have stated I was looking for one quick item and would be in and out and a matter of minutes. I spend enough time at this location that I knew exactly where to look and I would not have caused anyway to stay past their closing time. Just left the store without the one item I waited in line for because it didn't have a price on it. And instead of taking the extra step to help the customer the girl at the register just tucked the item under the counter and gave me a face as stank as her attitude. I guess they don't wanna miss a chance to overcharge for something. This store has really gone down in customer service and quality of items. Meanwhile the prices continue to get higher. Found a Michael Kors dress with the tags still on it for $7, very businesslike and doesn't look like it's been worn once. Thrift Store USA is honestly one of the best thrift stores I go to in Norfolk. It is the cleanest and most well organized (like...super organized) despite their huge selection of items. They have a large furniture collection that includes anything from couches to dressers to decent mattresses. I have found old electronics, clothes, and home decorations here for great prices. I have been into DIY projects lately, and this is a great place to find items to flip. The staff is friendly when you approach them with questions in my experience. However, they don't come up to you and try to talk which is great for a shy introvert like me who simply likes to shop in peace. In the picture, I'm showing a good quality box that I picked up today that I plan to paint and restore to match my taste. This has to be one of the best thrifts stores in the 757 area. It's huge, you'll be in here for over an hour if you're just browsing around. They have lots of clothes to chose from. They even have a big dress section that's organized by size. Winter time they have tons of outerwear. High quality coats that will keep you warm throughout the winter. Summertime they have cute bathing suits. Even their Halloween Section is big too with costumes for children and adults. read more

Honestly the store is super huge and i love the vintage section but it's so hard to shop there because of the horrible staff attitudes. The employees are rude from the fitting room to the cash register i was disappointed. Even more disappointed reading the business owners replies to other people with negative experiences. Train your staff in basic customer service and take responsibility. read more

Used to love this place, now i really can't justify shopping here much. The place has a good selection, but they've increased the prices on so many items that i'm hesitant to even call it a "thrift"store. I'm 100% convinced someone looks up items on eBay to sell for what they think is "market value" despite the fact that everything is donated to them. It's a shame honestly. The selection is quite large but very average if not below average. It looked like it had been picked through and not replenished in a while. Weird observation: there were actually some nice golf polos but that was about it in the guys sections. My wife didn't find anything she liked in the women's sections either. They do carry mattresses which is a nice touch I suppose. The selection of music on cd and records was impressive, however I didn't flip through too much of it to see the quality of the artists or records. The movie selection wasn't huge but I did find a handful of movies to add to my collection, which salvaged the trip from being pointless. Not as many knick knacks as some other thrift stores. Overall I can't really recommend unless you're looking for music, movies, or outdoor clothes. read more

Driving a car with better gas mileage, for example, is a must. The Family Thrift Store anticipated that move and offers FREE recharging for your electric car and Plug in Hybrid car. From personal experience, I get 176 MPG (miles to the gallon) on my Plug in Hybrid driving on electric. It's easy. I park next to the recharging station, plug in my car and then go shopping at the Family Thrift store. By the time I get done shopping, I have enough charge to get me back home where I plug in my plug in hybrid... No-cost transportation shopping. This store is VERY environmentally conscientious. It is one of the largest solar powered store in Tidewater Virginia. IKEA being the other. The store is amazing! Collectables, CDs, Vinyl records galore (all the classics are there). Real wood furniture (NO junk) and quality clothing for the season. There's ample parking. Winter is coming, so, I'll be visiting that store to get my jackets. This is my FAVORITE thrift store and I've tried out many other thrift stores in Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach but when I want to go thrifting I still shop here and drive from Deep Creek Chesapeake. It is Clean, doesn't smell like most thrift stores (CHKD cough cough) Organized, brand names modern clothes even a vintage section, even color coordinated! Yall realize how convenient that is?! I love the jewelry, the antique area, the nice nacs, books everything. I don't have a problem with their prices or their staff. Typically rudeness begets rudeness. And every time I need help I look for Mr Bob. He is OK with me, very helpful. Highly Recommended All I'd add to this place is more dressing rooms for the few that have complained. read more

One of the best, if not THE best, thrift stores in Hampton Roads! I have turned many people into Thrift Store USA believers, and have acquired numerous jeans, tops, and dresses for less than $1 each on some days! The store is already inexpensive, but the discounts make it even better! There are no color tag days here for specials, but there are various days of the week that offer discounts. Tuesday is student discount day, Wednesday is for senior citizens, and Thursday is for military! Technically, if one has one of these members within their presence, one could get a 20% discount three days out of the week! The store boasts of having one of the only dressing rooms for a thrift store in Hampton Roads, and the three booths heavily guarded. One is only able to take in four items at a time to try on, which assists the store in monitoring inventory maintenance. For those that have been caught stealing, there is a wall of shame posted that has the photos of past thieves. read more

My 4 star rating is solely based on the competition here in Norfolk/Hampton Roads area. In my first month living here I've been to 5 thrift stores - this is the BEST out of any that I have visited thus far. When I first walked in I stumbled upon a rack of what looked like vintage clothing...I took a closer look at the price tags and they were outrageous. I almost turned around to walk out but decided to look closer...good thing I did. This store (as many others have already mentioned) is fantastic for furniture. I saw some to-die-for antique/vintage pieces and almost wished I was in need of some new furniture. The pieces are mostly in good condition (if you get something here you can bring it to a professional to be upholstered...the prices are so low that you can probably afford to do so for the right piece) and have a lot of charm. You can get anything from a couch to a rug to a dresser here. As for clothes - the selection is pretty good. The one thing I noticed (and purchased a lot of) is that they have an excellent selection of female blazers. I got a Banana Republic, an Escada, and an Express blazer all in amazing condition. The other section that I found interesting was the vintage section. I found some good pieces there and they were priced "thrift store" prices - not vintage store prices. I also found a few great coat pieces but unfortunately not the right size. The store does not have a good selection of dresses or accessories (purses, scarves, jewelry, etc). I understand that this is a thrift store so the selection does vary but even based on how the store was organized I don't think that this place gets good accessories EVER. Although there was a lack of dresses and accessories I will still keep this thrift store at the top of my list for this area. read more

I hit this place at least twice a month. It's huge. Be sure to go pee before looking around-the bathrooms are in the back by the men's shoes. There is usually an amazing and eclectic selection of antique housewares, oriental rugs and all kinds of furniture to be found at a reasonable price. I like that their pants section is arranged by size and the tops by color. Bonus-they have dressing rooms. At Halloween and Christmas, they have an entire section set aside for seasonal items. I'd give this 5 stars but their shoe selection is just sad most of the time. Sometimes there's a gem to be found but most of the time, their shoes are past needing to go in the trash. One of my most favorite thrift stores ever. Ladies clothes are organized by size in pants, and organized by colors in all tops. They tend to have a pretty decent vintage selection but prices tend to go way up for that. You can really find some great furniture here too, ask for the manager and he will give you a discount. Also, this place gives coupons, very cool. I have found a good deal of yarn here, quality stuff, and craft books. I love that this place is so clean and organized, has a nice feel. read more

We probably hit this thrift store probably once a month for new kid clothes. Probably what my wife loves the most about this store is that they color code clothes and then they arrange by size. This is a good store for clothes, but probably not the best one for miscellaneous items. The prices are really good. Most items are either 99 cents to 1.99. Some brand names are marked up, if they are in good shape. They do have what appears to be a mattress store attached and it almost looks like some of the furniture is consignment, since the couches look like they are in such good shape. I also think that either Thursday or Tuesday is 10% military discount day. I would call first. They do have dressing rooms, but you might have a bit of a wait to get into them. read more

My family and I have been going here since 2015 and never have we had any issues until this past Thursday. A staff member continued showing up and I felt like we were being watched. I asked her if there was a problem and she responded yes we were making a mess. False! I told her we had been going there for years and never made a mess. She continued to make a scene saying get out of her face when I was not even on the same row. She continued to the register area where there were several people saying we were making a mess which again was FALSE. I walked around the store to try and locate some of the employees that have worked there for assistance. Highly embarrassed and completed disturbed by this employee. I will never go there again! First time here it was easy to find, right on the corner of the street with their big sign. Well when you walk in this store is huge. It was nice and cool not so crowded but as time went by it did get packed. I was just browsing around for some things nothing in particular. First of all this store is so organized by color and style type. It's awesome trying to look at things when their organized. Walking through some of the isles enough for people to go up and down don't have to feel so close to people while trying to find gems. Overall I would recommend this store to people it's clean, the people are friendly and helpful. Especially the people at the register are on it and quick so the purchase made was quick and I didn't have to wait in line forever. I can't wait to come again and see what I find. read more

This is one of the best thrift stores in the area. And certainly one of the biggest I've been to. I have never left this store empty handed. I am very excited that this thrift store has a section for maternity clothes. I have bought several tops for work here that originally came from Target (Liz Lange) and Motherhood Maternity. I even found a wheelchair for my grandma because she needed one. The one drawback is the aisles are a bit narrow and are hard to navigate when there are several people in that same aisle. read more

They also merchandise their clothes (at least the men's shirts) by color, as opposed to size. This is much easier for the workers maintain, but what a pain in the butt for a shopper. My experience shopping at this store is that the jewelry cashier constantly makes mistakes when ring up my purchases...charging for more items than I have or missing the requested discount. At least on 3 separate occasions she has made errors on my purchases. read more

When my 15 year old was with a responsible parent donating items, Charlie, a manager or assistant manager bullied and badgered my son. Showing his lack of managerial skills and bias, instead of approaching the adult to ask questions and discuss situation, Charlie was immediately rude, inept and unable to think creatively to receive donations and he yelled at a 15 year old. This should never have happened by a manager or decent person. The 15 year old explained situation to me soon afterwards and I called to file complaint. Charlie's response on the phone was unsatisfactory and out of touch. He never apologized for his lack of tact toward a kid nor did he take responsibility or try to make things right. His disgusting display of manners (or lack of manners) should not be tolerated. read more

This store used to be fantastic, now it's just good. In the past year, they have raised their prices way too much. The furniture is especially overpriced, particularly the small stuff like coffee tables and shelves. Big items like sofas are usually reasonable. Another reviewer mentioned that they arrange the clothes by color, not size. There are some exceptions such as men's pants and some of the kid's stuff. However, digging through items is part of thrift store shopping and to be expected. Thankfully, at Thrift Store USA, the place is clean enough that you don't mind digging. Decent selection of books too :) I looked around at the clothes for a minute and there seemed to be a varied selection of almost everything. The housewares section was smaller then I expected but I may have been missing a section because I was deterred by the books. This is definitely my favorite thrift store. My daughter and I go at least once a month and my out of town sister asks to go every time she is in town. This store is big and has everything you are looking for. I like looking at the furniture although I have yet to buy any. I go mostly for the clothes. I love that the pants are organized by size. Most of the work pants/slacks are $1.99 and name brand. Most of what I get are Ann Taylor LOFT, Talbots, or Brooks Brothers. In the summer the skirt and Capri selection are great. Shirts are hit or miss and I never gotten shoes. I have however gotten some jackets. I can usually get an outfit for $3-5. What I love most is the fact that this thrift store has dressing rooms! read more
