You end up staying longer than you wanted but that's because the selections are so numerous. This is not old worn out clothing either, nay nay, some the items are new and still have tags on them. They've eliminated all .98 sales tags as of May '26, and added a 30% off tag (NOT AT ALL BETTER!) Once 50% is done, the items are now shipped to some new kind of store they've opened, but, THERE AREN'T ANY IN MISSOURI! Also they routinely price items equal to or higher than the same item, brand new, at the place it was originally purchased (dollar tree, target, Walmart are ones I see regularly.) And I've noticed a steady increase in their everyday pricing too. There are better options to shop at in the kansas city area. This used to be the best in my opinion.Because they were the only place that had a colored tag for ninety eight cents for an entire week! They were the only place I could get that and not be overstimulated by giant crowds. But that's gone now. The corporate office for this , thrift store chain is applying regular retail rules to a thrift store model. They fundamentally misunderstand the thrift store customer. And this method has resulted in failures of and closing of thrift store locations across the country from multiple different thrift store chains. They think selling one t shirt for ten dollars is better than selling ten t shirts for 1$. People who shop at thrift stores have strong ideas on what they will spendon what for second hand items. And when thrift stores start trying to make themselves into boutique shops, using regular retail rules, and increasing pricing on DONATED ITEMS, we stop going. read more

My first visit to Thrift World left me severely underwhelmed and a little bit angry. This place is a DUMP. Overpriced fast trashion clogs up most of the store, leaving everything else (housewares, toys, linens, furniture, books, etc) packed up against the walls to collect dust. The store is dirty! I had to pick lint out of a deck of playing cards I wanted to buy that, by the way, cost TWO WHOLE DOLLARS. Opened and used! I couldn't believe it! They have dollar store items in here marked up over $5. I saw very few things that were less than that price. I bought a stuffed bear that cost $10 with a rip down the center of its face! This is the reason thrift stores are a dying entity. Plain old corporate greed! The service here was fine - nothing to write home about but we checked out quickly and got out of there fast. Find local thrift stores and patronize them rather than a corporate trash pile like this. Donate to local thrift stores too! read more

Thrift World is a thrift store offering a variety of moderately priced second hand items. I am honestly not sure how I came upon this place, but my goodness am I thankful I did. This place has so many selections (especially for the plus size section). I was browsing for at least an hour and that was a very speedy version. If you visit their website, they list discount days. If you sign up for the text alerts, you'll have knowledge of the special sales going on from time to time. I love this place. read more

I have shopped at Thrift World for years - it was my very favorite thrift store. I found so many quality items there, the prices were reasonable, and the store was always clean and organized. I also appreciated their special "sale" days for seniors and teachers. I have been a faithful customer through its inevitable ups and downs, but I'm finally at the point where I think I'm done. I want to say up front that the people who work there are wonderful. They are all so friendly and helpful. But, the store has become a total trash heap. I wonder if their sourcing has changed. Everything looks like the unsold culls from other thrift stores. The clothes should have been thrown away - they're really cheap-o, fast fashion junk. The housewares are mostly dirty, broken, chipped, worn out junk too. The "Vintage" section is a JOKE. Poor quality crap that isn't necessarily vintage, just out of style, dirty and worn out - for the "low low" price of $19.99 and up! The prices on everything else have suddenly sky rocketed, too. And, the store just has an unkempt, trashy, junky look. It's not as clean and organized as it used to be. So sad. I miss the old Thrift World. read more

Overall one of my favorites in the area. Great selection of EVERYTHING. Friendly staffers. Good prices. I love thrifting and honestly don't expect too much from a place. If they have a good selection of things and the staff aren't hostile, I'm good. This place is *better. Better selection. Better prices. No tumbleweeds blowing around, and no hostile staff. No ridiculous overprices junk. They even have a fairly good selection of old magazines and old records. I have decided to never step foot in store again because of your BLARING GOD AWFUL music. I have gone several times with my Mother and we both felt blasted upon entering the store and even after I put in earplugs it was bad. I asked the front desk clerk if she would turn down the volume a tad and she said she couldn't. WHAT??????? This thrift store is the second worse (first is Charity Thrift Mart on 40 hwy in Independence and Truman Rd in KC) in the area. Their prices are too high on some items that should be very low. The staff always have an attitude. If you bring something to the counter with no price tag, they refuse to sell it and tell you they don't know when it will be priced and you never see it again. A lot of clothes have no tags. Even jewelry under the glass: no price, no sale. Really? You know it's not customers ripping off the tag, to hopefully get it cheaper... Only staff can get in there! But, they refuse to come up with a reasonable price; they then take the item and you never see the ring or bracelet you wanted so badly, ever again. Even more, they bring furniture from the backroom to the floor, but no one can buy it, because they won't be priced until morning. They're just pulling them out so they're not in the back. So irritating! If you get overcharged, but don't notice until you're handed your receipt (still at the counter) they'll say, "We can't give you your cash back; we only give you store credit, which expires in 7 days." That is completely ridiculous. I don't know, maybe it's different now, as I quit going about 3 months ago. Place sucks tho, for real. Needs better management or something. I went and today and found the perfect pair of jeans the price tag apparently has to be stapled to the product to be able to purchase it fine I get that people can remove tags change the prices so I asked the girl who was working who maybe look like she was 12 if they could just go ahead and price it for me because these jeans were exactly what I had been looking for and she told me no. I was very disappointed. I don't understand why they could not just price the jeans so that I could buy them something is better than nothing. Unfortunately I wont go back. They desperately need to hire someone who is not in their teens to supervise. All three employees just stood at the register, never greeted anyone. They did how ever make one lady leave her purse at the front out of the 10 to 15 others who came in with big purses as well and were very rude to her and embarrassed her in front of at least three shoppers!!! read more

Came in on a Friday 8:00 picked a few things out to try on, it was 8:20 when I went to the dressing rooms. I found an associate to see if I can try on my clothes, she says the dressing rooms are closed. That the dressing rooms clothes and hour before the store. Good selection, BAD customer service. My friend and I are senior citizens, and my friend didn't see the "Senior Discount" sign until after she had paid. I asked the clerk about it when I paid, and she replied that they weren't required to ask the customer if they should receive a senior discount, and therefore my friend was just out of luck. I pointed out that both my friend & I had grey hair, & she said that didn't make any difference. She was about 18, and very snotty about it. Nor is this the first time I'd encountered this particular clerk, who obviously would be happier at home than waiting on customers. The prices at this place aren't that great, either. Had been in the store several times most of the people working here are very rude and hate full. For a thrift there prices are to high. A customer is what makes any business a success , the people that work here needs trained on being nice and pleasant to their customers .. The store is well thought out. Everything is pretty easy to find and marked off in sections. Honestly I was a little bit surprised at the amount of items they were selling. The seasonal decorations are reasonably priced. However the price on used home decor and clothing is really too high. Also it was hard to find anyone to help answer any questions we had. Once we finally did get someone's attention she just said "I have no idea" and walked away. Maybe she was going on break or leaving for the day, but she was definite bothered. So the customer service needs some attention. One thing I really liked was the amount of glassware and the parking lot is very spacious. read more

I cannot believe how high the prices are. Instead of paying $4-$7 for a pair of kids jeans that aren't in great shape I'd rather go to children's orchard and get a really nice pair for around 5 bucks. Men's jeans were $7-$10. Was overcharged 10.00 on my purchase Sunday Sept 8th kept all tags and even though it is a charitable organization we will see how I get treated kept tags receipt showed fewer tags than removed from clothing but 10.00 too much knew as soon as I left that 31.00 was too much especially for all 50% off items most expensive being 4.98 and two items were .48 . Plan on seeing how I'm treated just want back money overcharged we all know all sales are final no returns and such but they just ripped me off. So I'm seriously upset and been completely disrespected! My husband and I both work 50-60 hours a week. My husband has his first father daughter dance this weekend. So we have been out shopping all night since we have been off work. We just spent $200 on a nice suit for him and didn't really have a lot of money for shoes or a nice under shirt. So on our way home we thought let's stop by thrift world maybe we could find something at a good discount. Once we got into the store about 5'mins in the gentleman over the intercom says the store will be closing in 15 mins. Just enough time we thought to look around. We don't take long. We were in the back of the store where the men's shoes are. THEY SHUT THE LIGHTS OFF ON US! I mean it's a small store you can see across the whole place. They knew we were there. I was even chatting with two of the associates before hand. I went to the front with our purchases and asked if they could turn the lights back on. The girl at the front was very rude and claimed she couldn't turn them back on. I said that my husband was hard of seeing and needed the lights on the see a good shirt. I mean we still had 10 mins left. Mind you it's illegal to shut the lights off in a store before closing hours if you are inside! Locking the doors are one thing. But turning the lights off! Then I was upset by this time and was giving a little attitude. So the girl then claimed that the tag on on of the pairs of shoes i got wasn't the correct tag! I mean what is she implying I'm a broke person who needs to switch the tags in a freaking thrift store! I feel like she was trying to shame me! I couldn't believe the disrespect of this young woman! So I then asked to speak with her manager and she claimed she was the supervisor and so I attempted to talk to another person and she yelled we are both supervisors! So then by this time all four people working was at the front at the store. One guy then asked what was wrong and I said I would like the lights on we had 10 mins left to look. This is what he tells me! " bring the shirt to the front of the store and look at it in the light!" Then all the employees started laughing! I couldn't believe it! I mean I don't understand where can you go in this world to pay of ANYTHING without getting disrespected! I mean I was paying for a service and was getting disappointed and disrespected by everyone!!! And no just one but all of them were being rude! I just couldn't believe it! This will be going all over everywhere I can post it and anyone will listen! I mean I know I don't live in a good part of independence but that doesn't mean everyone is a dope head or theif! The woman working at the check out was a young red head. The other "supervisor" was black hair with glasses. One of the women that laughed and asked why I wanted there names was young blonde with glasses. I would give the store 3 stars on their color tag sale day purely for value. They have a fairly large selection of clothing and rows and rows of household and miscellaneous. Seems a bit overpriced for me to visit more than once a month or so. If you are a serious thrifter, you will find some great deals, but it will take you some time browsing for them. Not in my top 5 stores, but worth a visit every now and again. read more

This is my favorite go to thrift store because they always have an incredible selection and awesome prices but last 3 times I've been here in the last 30 days; the employee customer service has been extremely disappointing. There's been a younger guy and girl working, usually with an older lady who seems to be the only one actually working while they flirt with each other, giggle, kiss and hug while they walk around or do nothing at the cash register. If that wasn't unprofessional enough the kids the guy will start making 5-minute intercom announcement starting at 8 p.m. which is an hour before they close at 9 p.m. every 5 minutes for an hour while he does nothing at the cash register but play with his girlfriend who also supposedly works there but the other night I was there till 9 p.m. and this guy turn the lights out at 8:45 on the two people in the store trying to look through the clothing racks I was so disgusted that I just wanted to completely forget everything I already had in my car and leave I can't believe this kid he went and pulled his car up at 8:30 p.m. 30 minutes before they even closed so he could warm it up for him and his girlfriend and then try to kick us out 15 minutes before they were even supposed to be closed they have no desire to be nice or aware of the customers in the store and the girl said nothing as it came up to ring out the two items I had decided on in the dark and said your total is $8.76 you want to just rounded up to $9 and I'm like what are you talkin about we'll you can donate it to like the community what just bring my stuff up for what it is please. WOW who gives these kids these jobs and then doesn't follow up to see if they care that they have jobs???? read more

I am a huge thrift shopping fan and this Thrift World store was one of those pleasant surprises for me. A huge array of merchandise that is clean and well organized and varies widely from cheap basics to nicer things (that goes for clothes and housewares especially). I found several treasures here, and though I don't shop for children myself I saw a lot of very nice kids' clothing and outerwear for excellent low prices. I did find, as another reviewer mentioned, the staff seemed out of the loop on things (unable to answer basic questions) but the outcome was fine, for example I found a lot of great old magazines to use for collage making and the cashier had no idea of their price but what she charged me was very fair and low so it was fine. This is definitely a store I'd make a special effort to revisit. I liked that they seemed to know what they had on hand but didn't put crazy prices on it, either. For example an authentic Swiss Army messenger bag for five dollars and Columbia hoodie for seven. Some thrift stores would mark both items over twenty since they're desirable. Thrift World gets it right. read more
