This place is terrible. My car was in need of an oil change so I called and went in multiple times to try to get a new car. The people were rude and not helpful. They said they'd leave a note on my account for a replacement and I never heard from them. My car ended up breaking down on the side of the road and of course no one there would answer the phones. I got ahold of roadside assistance and both representatives there even said that the front desk people were rude and not cooperative. read more

I can't believe they gave me a nasty and scratched up ride on the outside. The inside had an arm rest for driver that was greasy and sugar in the cup holder. I am thoroughly disgusted every time I get in it. I sent them videos with the filth and scratches. I am appalled at how they rent out their vehicles. Went to the counter, man very slowly charged my credit card then went outside to bring the vehicle to the door. Instead he returned to say they had no vehicles. I had a good experience with this company during my 3-month long rental. I received good vehicles. One got a nail in the tire about a month into my rental and they replaced it with a new car without hesitation and I feel I even got an upgrade of a vehicle. They took care of me and were helpful with answering questions and assisting me. The only thing that was less than desirable was the wait in line the first day to get the vehicle, but that could have been more a reflection of the airport and not necessarily the car rental company. Charged for 2 gallons of gas at over $9/gallon when likely less than 1 gallon was used. I have a picture of the fuel gauge when I returned the vehicle. One gallon would've been understandable, but not two, especially at that price. If I didn't value my time, I would be spending the hour on the phone with my credit card issuer challenging the charge. There is/was no employee in the vehicle garage directing anyone on proper procedures for picking up or dropping off vehicles. This leads to customer confusion and potentially other unforeseen issues. Although I was late arriving to pick up my car, the line at the thrifty counter was the only line at the rental car area. There were four people ahead of me and only one attendant. She was very nice and helpful, but they need extra staff if there are going to be problems that need to be dealt with. I will never rent from Thrifty again. I reserved a vehicle more than a month in advance. When we arrived at our destination, we had to wait an hour and a half for a car to be brought to the airport from some other location. When it finally arrived, it was not the type of vehicle I had reserved and the charges were $200+ more than the original costs quoted in the reservation confirmation. I filed a complaint asking for the $200 to be refunded, but have only gotten platitudes in response. read more

We rented a vehicle from Thrifty for a family trip to the beach. When we picked up the vehicle we were assisted by LaTrice who was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. She walked us through the process, explaining things and answering all of our questions. The vehicle was clean and in perfect working order. Also the return process was very quick and easy. I reserved a car this past week from the airport at 0730am.....The whole situation was just horrible, from the check in, to me and my husband walking away without a car. I reserved a mangers special and the special happen to be a huge truck that no one rents from a airport. I should have known not to rent the unknown. Once I realized this, I asked Janet to change our rental to a car, she quickly said "Oh I don't have anything and if I do you will be paying an extra $10 per day". Janet the rude agent was having a bad day Im assuming, her tone wasn't professional at all. She acted like it was a issue to even look for something else for us. I have no time for foolery, so I politely told her to have a awesome Carolina day, I cancelled my reservation and walked next door to Alamo. Alamo not only gave me a cheaper brand new Jeep to rent, but the customer service was excellent. Service with Alamo was fast at the counter and in the garage. They will be getting a review across social media because I reward good professional behavior. Tip: I work hard for my money and will not tolerate rudeness and unprofessionalism in any company. I returned the car two days early and was told it was 1 day and 24 hours so I only got a one day refund. I tried calling for two days and it went to voicemail and mailbox was full. This company out of CAE airport columbia sc slaps an extra $5 fraudulent charges for a road assistance I did not order. I reserved it via Expedia. The counter personnel told me that it is an automatic charge, for of which customers are unaware. I notified the company. Imagine how many proper would not go through the trouble to their request $5 back. That would amount to thousands of dollars fraudulent earnings, I would assume. read more

Rented and paid for an unlimited vehicle at Thrifty #Ilm and after I returned the vehicle I was charged $600.00 plus dollars on top of the original quoted price. I do not recommend Thrifty Car Rental at Wilmington International Airport. Buyer Beware. The car was also filthy when we received it. read more

Extra charges. I opted for no insurance coverage (property damage and liability) when I rented Thrifty car using Expedia. The cost was about $300.00. When I checked out at the counter, the agent apparently added liability insurance for about 18 dollars a day. He did not ask me, just added it on. I signed but did see the total. Hadn't had a problem with car rental before. Also added $59 for tolls. Agent asked me if I would be using the tunnel and I said "yes", once for leaving and once for returning to the airport. Apparently that cost $59. Seems high for two $1.50 tolls. So, all and all an extra $158 of charges. When I returned the car and asked about the charges I first was referred to a rental agent at the desk who told me manager would have to help me but he was not available. Was assured that the Thrifty number on the paperwork jacket would connect me to an agent who would take off the liability charge. The number does not connect you to an actual person, all automated and no way to dispute a charge. I filed a complaint online with Thrifty about a week ago and have not heard back. read more

This was most inefficient and delayed car rental I have ever experienced. Had a reservation but everyone had to wait for a car to be brought up. Only one person working at desk and one runner. I rented a luxury car and had to wait for them to assign a number so they could then bring me a car. So used to having quick check in and getting a key to go for a car. Not sure whose fault it was but I had some significant heartburn during this experience. Rented the pickup through Priceline. Called Thrifty to make sure that there was a pickup ready and everything was okay. Got to the airport counter and was told that there was no pickups at the airport. Showed them my confirmation. Sorry, no pickups. Told them I had called Thrifty and they said that was corporate and they are "not affiliated" with them now. Sorry, no pickup. Stood at the counter and called corporate. They said they would check with Hertz. In luck, Hertz has a pickup, but it wouldn't be ready for 3 hours and would cost 3 times as much $270+ for the day. WHAT! Then Lateshea, at the counter said that a pickup had "just come in". Worked out just short of a heart attack. Lateshea FIVE STARS. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! The counter was dark and empty at 10:15am when I went to pick up my confirmed reservation. I walked around the airport for over half an hour looking for someone to help me out. I eventually found a car maintenance person to call another location and have them walk her through the rental process. An hour later I left with the only car they had left. It was WAY bigger than I had reserved and I was unhappy because I was going to be driving a lot and did not want to pay for gas for a large vehicle. The plate were also suspicious. They were cardboard and not from the department of transportation (which I guess is common in the south, but I had NEVER seen in my life). Also the date had clearly been changed with a sharpie marker from 5/29/18 to 6/29/18 by drawing over the number 5 to change it to a 6. I ended up calling the company, being kept on hold an transferred around for over three hours before just calling the local sheriff to ensure that the vehicle was legal to drive. When returning the car to the counter I met Jennifer. She is the rudest and worst customer service agent I have ever encountered in my life. I explained the entire situation and asked that a significant amount be refunded due to all of the issues. She said she would refund $8.40 for the extra 2 hours I had needed the vehicle. I explained the entire struggle and she kept insisting that they had upgraded me. I told her that it wasn't an upgrade, it was the ONLY car they had left on the lot and that it cost me a lot of money to fill it up. More than a standard. I also explained about the lost 3 hours of my life due to trying to make sure the tags were legal. She laughed at me. I asked for a supervisor. She refused to give me any information. I asked for the name of the company that owned the rental counter (it was independently owned) and she refused. I ended up walking away and she condescendingly said "Have a nice day" in a way that was just so rude and hurtful. NEVER RENT FROM THIS COUNTER! They are the worst. read more

My only complaint was the amount of time it took to get the car. After our flight landed we went directly to the Thrifty counter which was combined with the Dollar counter. There was one man ahead of us being taken care of. After about 10 minutes I realized that the clerk was chit chatting with the customer about high school reunions. We noticed that there was a sign on the counter that said something like "to our Thrifty customers, we are away from the desk, please visit us at the Hertz counter". So we walked over to the Hertz counter. There were about 3 people ahead of me. I politely waited. When I got to the front of the line, the woman said "oh you have a Thrifty rental, isn't there somebody at the counter down there?" I told her we were down on that line for a while and then we saw the sign redirecting us here. She then told us to go back there and she'll meet us there. We walked back to the Thrifty/Dollar counter and the clerk was still chit chatting with the same customer but now there were about 4 more people on line waiting. As the Hertz clerk approached the counter I made my way to the front and she said "oh were these people ahead of you?" I explained to her that I had initially waited on that line while Mr. Dollar guy was chit chatting, then went to Hertz after seeing the sign and waited on that line and got redirected back down here. I told her "I was not waiting on line AGAIN". All in all this took about an hour! Once we got our car, everything was perfect. read more

I would give 0 Stars if I could. My flight was late, and I was on a truncated time table. I was going to an Army base so I asked if the vehicle had proof of insurance so I could get in the gate. I was actually charged for insurance that I did not ask for. I was given and charged for an upgraded vehicle without being told it was an upgraded vehicle. I was also charged for the an extra day due to the reservation and my flight being 10 hours late. My company had the bill paid for before I even returned home So I have called and e-mailed several time with no return call, and no email. I have asked for a refund up the upgraded vehicle and received nothing. read more

I came to SC for a family emergency which ended up becoming an extended stay. The workers were very understanding about my situation. Because of my extenuating circumstances, I was able to extend my contract over the phone (which was not normal policy). They were able to ease some of the burdens what I was facing with caring and understanding. I normally do not write reviews but the CAE THRIFTY workers and managers went above and beyond. I was charged $38.69 for fuel after the return of my rental car when I refueled and returned the car with a full tank. After multiple phone calls I received an email stating the local office confirmed it was for fuel and unfortunately no refund would be given. I guess it's my word against theirs, but I refueled as instructed and will never use or recommend this company again. read more

Visiting my cousin for her wedding, rented a car from them and as were already nearing our destination miles and miles away from the airport. it turns out one of the employees left their service phone. Well guess who kept calling, the front desk demanding that we drive all the way back to the airport to return the phone because it is the "ONLY" service phone they have for their employees. What kind of rental company only has one phone for your employees... better yet what kind of company would request newcomers to the state who have never driven here especially at night to return what your employees was reckless to lose?
