The salesperson acted like she was doing my elderly mom and me a favor when she finally approached us after a very long wait (even though there were no other customers). When my mom asked about the brakes on one of the rollators not seeming as firm as she was used to, the woman claimed it was just because it was a smooth floor instead of carpeting (even though my mom has used hers on both surfaces without slippage). When we asked about the different rollators, she said they're all the same and offered no information. When I asked if they fill out the Medicare paperwork, she got incredibly snarky and said "There's no medical supply place that would take the time to do that when the cost of the rollator is as cheap as that." I told her I'd read reviews of other places that do indeed do that for customers. When she said she doubted that, my mom and I left and immediately went to one of those places. Rahab Medical Supply took care of all the paperwork, ordered the one my mom wanted, and called us a couple of days later to arrange delivery. We had an emergency and urgently needed a transport chair. I would have ordered one online, but delivery wouldn't arrive in time, so we decided to go to Thrifty Medical Supply even though its quite a distance from us. Prices vary depending if you want to rent or buy. We didn't mind the cost since it was an emergency, but unfortunately, the worker we spoke with was cold and showed no compassion. I was trying to be nice but after she turned her terrible attitude to my 80 year old mother, I'd had enough. A couple of years ago I needed a wheelie walker (scooter), they were nice people and provided good service. A month ago, our doctor's office gave us incorrect information about the need or process to get a temporary hospital bed. As a result we waited waaaayyy too long to find a supplier (on our own BTW - idiot doctor's office). The surgery is 3-days from now...I called about a dozen places...nothing or stupidly expensive or with delivery in 7-10 days...then I remembered my scooter from TMS. So I called and spoke with Lisa, she had the the whole bed setup (fully electric frame/mattress/rails/table) delivered, installed, and completed in our home in less-than 2 hours...SAME DAY SERVICE ~ AMAZING! Plenty of parking. Entrance can be a bit confusing if you're coming from Castro Valley Blvd. I called the day before and asked if they had an item I needed. The stated they did. I told them I would be in the next day to pick it up. They took my blame and I assumed they were reserving the item for me. I arrived the next day and was told they didn't have the item I needed. We left then received a call a few minutes later stating they had reserved my item and didn't think to ask my name. I returned picked up my item and left. They staff is very friendly but a little unorganized. One person helping customers while the cashier is doing?????. This is my second time at this establishment. I needed a wheelchair repair on Saturday July 15th. I called and the gentlemen said he could repair it. A wheel came off and needed to be reattached. He was able to repair the wheel. I rented a wheelchair for my disabled sister from this company through a broker. It was not a good experience. The chair they delivered had a faulty brake. It made pushing the chair extremely difficult. It took 2 days for this to be corrected. Initially they were going to swap out the chair for another that had the exact same problem. It was a simple fix that the delivery person accomplished in minutes with a few tools. Why weren't the chairs inspected and repaired before sending them out to a customer? The other problem was the lack of communication and reliability in the delivery/pick up process. In both cases, I requested time frames to expect their driver and call backs when they couldn't supply one. I never got a single call back and both the repair and pickup were not done on the day promised. I sat around at home for hours waiting for them. They showed no regard for my time or good business manners by letting me know that they would not be arriving on the day scheduled. And they just showed up the next day with no prior notice. I would not rent from this company again. read more

Do NOT go here if you have Medicare and are looking for Durable Medical Equipment!! While this business shows up on the Medicare site, Thrifty refuses to file the paperwork to Medicare, and just gives you a cash register receipt with no NPI number. So you pay full price up front, they leave you to submit all the paperwork to Medicare, and Medicare will deny it. Also, our receipt was unreadable, so I called to get a new one printed and asked her to email it to me. She claims they don't have an email. So I asked her to mail it to me. No action was taken. Called back, apparently she doesn't have envelopes or stamps to do that. Called again, and she said the same thing and acted like getting an envelope and stamp was an impossible task. It took two weeks and two phone calls to receive it in the mail. And now, even if I can get the NPI number, Medicare will not reimburse us the amount that should be received since the supplier didn't submit the information themselves. Basically, if Thrifty had submitted the claim (our out of pocket would have been less), they lose money because the approved amount Medicare would pay them is low. read more

Although it wasn't for a model they sold, he said he would search for it and call me back. I thought that was very considerate of him, so I'm left my name and contact information. One week went by and I didn't get a call, so I called in. It was Saturday and the person who took the message said the manager didn't work weekends. I left my name and contact information again. Another week went by and no call, so I left another message for the manager. Long story short no return call one month later. I went to this location on Valentines' Day this year. I was in dire need of a nebulizer for my daughter's medication. I had went to 4 places prior and none had them. When I showed up to Thrifty (interesting name given) I had to wait for 35 minutes because employee/owner was not there. Once able to go into the store, I asked for a nebulizer. The cashier, a male, pulled this opened box from behind the counter and said he had one. He then proceeded to charge me $99.99 for the machine, I thought it was steep but again I needed it. So, you can imagine my surprise when I get home and google this 'Drive Nebulizer' and find it's only $20 online. Not only are they not "Thrifty", they're crooks, he either made that price up when I walked in or they are completely about inflating prices so they can rob their customers when it comes to what they sell. Either way I won't be visiting this store again or referring anyone else to get robbed by these people. read more

My experience with Thrifty goes back to 2018, and today in 2021... I try to avoid this place at all cost, but I always try again, only to be reminded of the poor customer service, and random made up prices... A few years ago, I ordered my 80yr old mom, some special shoes, which would take 2 weeks to be delivered to the store... 2 weeks past, no call... I go to the store on the 3rd week, and there sitting on the desk, with no sense of urgency to be had... I swore off Thrifty since, till today, where I'm looking for a folding commode... As I enter, I'm reminded how nothing, not any item has a price tag on it... I see one commode, it's perfect, I ask the price... He says 139$... I say cool, do you have one in a box I can take? No, he says, only the floor model... Huh, I said⁉ Ok, I guess I'll take it.. Suddenly he runs to the rear of the store for 2 minutes, comes back to his computer, and says he's ready... I pull out my card, and he says 192$ 192$‼ you said it was 139$ ? That was a different model, he said, I made a mistake. Then why not tell the customer that ⁉ Why not come from the back, say you made a mistake about that model price, show the customer other commodes, at that price quoted I don't understand this brand of customer service, and I feel for the seniors who come here, and get gauged. I'm never coming back here again.. They act like they have the market on Medical equipment for the elderly... Ok so I went to Walgreens for an arm sling and when I put it on it was tight and extremely uncomfortable, but it was the only size they had (One Size). I found Thrifty and they had the perfect arm sling, comfortable and definitely of better quality. It was far bigger and roomier. This review is for Nellie. She has been helping me to get fitted for my lymphedema issues since last year. She was patience and took her time to explain and recommend a night sleeve since my lymphedema was getting worst. I met up with her at the shop when the pandemic was in the early stage. Nellie did all the appropriate precautions when I went to see her. Mask was worn, sanitizer was used. Because of my issues, I had met up with her either at Kaiser or at the shop at least another 3 to 4 times to get fitted for a different kinds of sleeves to control the swelling. I took my brother here for a new walker because he was having such a hard time walking. I met with Iysar and told him my brother has Parkinson's. Iysar was so kind and knowledgeable. He picked out a sturdy well made walker with big wheels. He adjusted it to the correct size. My brother looked at other walkers but choose the one Iysar selected. We also met with Nelly and again so very kind and knowledgeable. She assisted us with a 3 wheeler chair to get around inside his room. She also fit him with German made orthotics and he was much more comfortable. Nelly let him take a little spin on a comfy power chair just to get ideas for the future. When the person delivered the hospital bed he did not wear gloves or shoe covers. The bed VERY noisy when going up or down. We rented the bed for 1 month. It broke in 4 days. The pole that goes from the top of the bed to the bottom kept falling off. We kept putting it back in but it kept falling out. When my husband laid on it the middle would go down. He couldn't even turnover. He's average 200 lbs. After 1 week I called to ask them to come pick it up as we couldn't use it. They wouldn't even refund part of my money. This company Does Not take "Most Major Medical Insurance". In fact they only take Medicare. The girl seemed to have a lack of compassion, empathy and the willingness to help in locating any nearby medical supply stores. If you have Medicare than you're in luck.
