New **Beware** This practice is all about getting your money!! . I made an appointment as a new patient to have a spot checked and then I thought oh I do need a couple other concerning spots looked at. so I called back Incase they needed to reschedule based on doctors time frame. I made them aware of what I needed and I was told that the doctor will only check two spots at a time and I was told pick the worst of two. I was dumbfounded by that comment and dumbfounded that they wouldn't even do a total skin check on me. I had to pick two moles and that's it and then come back and do two more. I've been to many Dermatoligist and have never ever been told that in my life. What a JOKE!! $$$$ read more

10 minutes in the phone with front desk trying to get a quote for a certain procedure for my kid - it was just useless waste of my time. I was advised to come to the office to get a quote. It's so against the law nowadays. Quotes for procedures must be given upfront. I don't need to take time off work, yank my kid out of school just so I can come and ask a simple question - how much it would cost me to get a procedure done, the one that has been advised by the doctor at the previous visit. It's in my kid's chart, in their computer, yet they choose to make me come and waste my time for a quote. No, thanks. That's against the law. I'm moving on to a more honest place. read more

I felt that it was very impersonal. I heard from the moment I walked in. First the receptionist then the nurse and later the doctor. this is only a screening . the only thing the doctors is doing is looking for skin cancer. do not ask questions about anything else. Staff was nice and doctor was knowledgeable and honest. I went in for something cosmetic and the doctor gave me options and was honest. Beside the reason that I went, I also asked her a questions regarding my skin and hair and he answered them. She was patient with me and had good bed side manners. My insurance covered the consultation and I just paid my co-pay. The lady at the front desk is so bubbly and sweet! She's a great representation of the office. read more

Dr. Vawter was nothing short of amazing. She was incredibly informal and gave me ample time to ask any questions I had. She didn't make me feel rushed and even had her assistant write down the important things that I was curious about. Even without insurance the appointment was perfectly reasonable. A few days after my appointment I had another question that she was very happy to answer over the phone, even through voicemail! I'm happy to have found a kind, knowledgeable dermatologist so close to home. I had looked up other dermatologists in the area and they were booked for weeks, Thrive Dermatology got me in within two days! I will not go back anymore. It wasted of my time and money. The doctor told us we could just call in for medicine if the acnes cream won't help and she already discussed about the side effect up front if we chose the pills. Then, when we wasn't satisfied with cream close to a month then call back for medicine, they denied our conversation and requested us to go back again for another consultation and side effect explanation. They just want us to go back for another insurance claim and I don't see any good result of the acnes. read more

As with many people, I had a few issues with my skin. Don't have a dermatologist that I use so begin looking for one here in Allen. Thrive Family Dermatology had interesting reviews so I contacted them and was surprised to get an appointment the following day. They emailed me paperwork to fill out in advance which is always nice. My visit went well. The dermatologist addressed all my concerns and provided me with options. She always asked if I had any questions before moving on to the next topic. At the end of my visit, I received a print-out of notes for each situation which was very nice since my memory is not nearly as good as it used to be. They called in my prescriptions for me while I was there. Nice touch. Everyone was very nice. The office was very clean and orderly. If you need to visit a dermatologist, give these folks a try! read more

Complete waste of time and money. To start the Dr was 45 minutes late. She did apologize for running behind but at that point I had already felt like a number. She examined my skin with a light and q-tip for three different concerns, and concluded that all of it was Atopic dermatitis. For one of the prescriptions she suggested causes my scalp to breakout, scab and become tender even after I had made her aware of these reactions. I was then instructed to try it and return in 6-8 weeks. This treatment seems counter productive to me. By the end of the appointment she just kept repeating anything else, anything else, anything else, after each question that I had. This to me gives off a insincere demeanor. I'm giving one star for the great bed side manner of her PA for simply listening and seeming like she cares. read more

"STAY AWAY!!!!!" Found Thrive Family Dermatology through my insurance and the were accepting new patients during Covid. Went to go see this Dr. due to a skin irritation that seemed to be spreading. During the 5 minute exam was told that this was not a major issue and that the ointments she was prescribing should take care of it. Picked up the creams and followed all of her instructions but the irritation continued to spread. Went back a couple of days later and was told it was going to get WORSE before it will get better but the ointments will help. Never heard that before so I continued on with the creams hoping it would get better. By the 5th day it was still not getting any better so I contacted our family DR for some relief. Was prescribed a steriod pack which would and did clear up the irritation. One month later received a bill in the mail for the remaining unpaid balance of what the contracted rate did not pay. Refusing to pay the remaining balance as my next step will be filing a complaint with the state. read more

I paid $150 for a 18 min consultation where the doctor informed me she was running behind and had other patients and she had already given us the time of two appointments. Let me detail it out for you: I scheduled an appointment with Rene who was very polite. I explained to her our situation and we made the appointment for the next afternoon at 3:45pm. She informed us we could fill out all the necessary paperwork only from and email she sent. We did as instructed, the online paperwork was confusing, I called and they told me I was fine to have filled in what I did. My daughter and I arrived at 3:40pm. No one was waiting that we could see. We were asked to fill out additional forms that took us beyond the start appointment time. After completing we waiting and were called in at 3:57pm. The nurse Rene sat down and asked her questions that took about 5 min in total. She left and said the doctor would be in shortly. When the doctor arrived in the room it was 4:10pm. She was very soft spoken, she took a light and looked over my daughters back and chest as well as her face. She then asked what we results we would want to see. After explaining to her we are not new to this situation and that we weren't sure we wanted to go the route of Accutane again she gave us another option. We had explained to her we are private pay and so we needed a solution that wouldn't break the bank. All of this took 14 mins. At which time she stated to stand up and leave. Keep in mind I'm about to pay $150 for this consultation that was 14 mins long. The doctor informed me she was running behind and had other patients and she had already given us the time of two appointments. I was very irritated at that response and at which point I should have taken my daughter and left but giving her another chance because she stop and said she could see I was upset she sat down at which time we continued for another 3 mins. I told her we would really like to do the accutane system but that I needed to speak to my husband and weigh out the two options and pricing. When we explained to her if we go that route that we would want her to start the antibiotics in the 30-day blackout period she commented with a weird look on her face as to why and that she didn't recommend it. But due to her abruptness. We left it and said we would call in the morning. We filled out all the paperwork in the lobby, paid and left. I received a call and the front desk asked if we could come back because she didn't give us the copies. We drove back and collected those copies. I called the next day and spoke with the front desk asking for Rene to return my call. They then informed me that the also forgot to get the sticker from the book in which they gave my daughter. Rene called me back and I told her we would be doing the accutane but that we wanted the doctor to prescribe the antibiotics durning the 30-day period. She sounded hesitant but said she would ask the doctor she called back and informed me she would not be doing that, that wasn't her practice. After everything that had happened and the rushed nature of the doctor we decided to take our business elsewhere. Side note: after speaking to 6 other dermatologist in the area they all said the same thing, it is common practice for them to prescribe antibiotics durning the 30-day blackout period. Including our doctor in the city we moved from. I would not recommend this doctor for these reasons. read more

Had a great first time visit at thrive, dr. Vawter's office is clean and spacious, check in was quick and efficient, allowing the whole process to go by swiftly, dr. Vawter is clearly very knowledgeable and has a great attitude, making me feel comfortable right away, she listened to my problems patiently, examined my skin and diagnosed me along with some useful recommendations. My first time to a dermatologist and I'm almost 50. I wanted a full body skin cancer screen, and had some other skin issues and also some more "cosmetic" related questions. I was kind of nervous to go, but the whole experience was comfortable and pleasant. The office is extremely clean, the staff very friendly, and Dr. Vawter was kind, cool, and collected! She didn't rush me and answered all of my questions fully. Her staff made notes of the entire visit for me to take home. Would totally recommend her to anyone seeking a dermatologist, and I will, without hesitation, return in the future for any of my dermatology needs or for another skin cancer screening. I lucked out with getting an appt ASAP as I know her practice is still fairly new here in Allen, TX. Thank you Dr. Vawter and staff...keep up the great practice you are running! P.S. BEWARE!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! My wife set up an appointment for our daughter over the phone a week out. I took time off of work, check my daughter out of school and was heading to the appointment. On the way I called to confirm the appointment since they never did. To my surprise they said she did not have an appointment. I was sitting by my wife when she called about the appointment because I had to fit it in my schedule. My wife called to see what happened. They said another girl took the appointment and did not put it in the system. They tried to schedule for the next day. My wife said no she would have to check with me to see when my schedule allowed a second attempt at this. The lady said well I am just going to but it on the schedule anyways against my wife's approval. So 2 weeks go by and I called to try the appointment again. This is where they now tell me they can not make an appointment because we no called no showed an appointment!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me!!!! They are the ones who no called the appointment when they did not schedule it !!! I am truly disappointed when the lady on they phone and how she talk to me like I was the one who made a mistake. Im glad I found out what kind of place this is before I took my daughter. I am writing this review so people can see how they really treat there future patients read more

I am disappointed in the practice, but I did not even get to have my appointment. The front desk greeted me then asked for my ID and insurance card, as I was getting them she stated they discourage "companions" for appointments-Regarding my 2 year old daughter who I have with me whenever I'm not at work. She's not my "companion" she's my responsibility. I understand discouraging, but I will have to find another more understanding place to get my skin issues taken care of. I had a very positive experience with Dr. Vawter and her staff. I had a severe case of Eczema flared up that covered my entire back. Dr.Vawter was able to see me within a short notice and prescribed an effective steroid cream. She gave a thorough diagnosis and let me ask questions without making me feel rushed through the exam. ***Beware*** First, their initial visit fee with nothing done is $183.00 (In comparison my husband's dermatologist was $80) and that is only the visit!!! They really should tell you before you come in. I went in for an overall skin check and because I had a couple of spots of concern she said I had to book a separate appointment for an overall check and she only had time to look at my few concerns. So I'm paying $183.00 and she is rushing you and doesn't have time to complete what you came for. I paid additional fees to have some moles removed which is expected but then waited 20 minutes to check out and was double charged. And...I still have to come in for another appointment to get the overall check I went in for which would be another $183.00. My husband went to a wonderful dermatologist who gave him an overall check and removed some things for free. I think I will definitely not be booking with this office again, extremely overpriced and it was truly a terrible experience. read more

We recently moved to N Texas to be closer to grandkids, etc., and I visited Thrive Dermatology for my periodic full body scan and for removal of a skin tag on the side of my face. The entire process, from registering as a new patient to the receptionist, nurse and doctor was very professional and friendly. In particular, I was favorably impressed with Dr. Vawter and her close attention to detail and explanation of patient options for treatment (ranging from "none" to "knife"). I had a great experience here for my first dermatologist visit ever. I got a full body cancer screen as well as a skin tag removed and the price was extremely reasonable with no insurance. Everyone was so nice and helpful, I was really impressed. They spent so much time talking to me about everything and made sure I understood exactly what was happening. They also didnt mind that my rowdy 4 year old was there being a little crazy at times so I give them two thumbs up for sure. I will be going back every year for a cancer screen now that I know how easy it is and how important it is! read more

I came here bc of good reviews i saw but honestly the reviews are hyped up and feel like they are being paid to write good reviews by practice. the best thing about this practice was the front desk receptionist very nice and patient and understanding. I myself did not feel comfortable talking about my skin and problems with dr i felt like she was judging me and it was not a good feeling especially already being self conscious. i felt like i was being rushed to get out the room even when there were NO PATIENTS WAITING. i did not feel like this was a good location to go to for me. practice looks fairly new and kind of small waiting room. i paid for my visit but felt like i shouldn't have even had to pay i was there literally 15 mins and didn't feel like anything was accomplished or like i had an understanding for my conditions... provider suggested 1 gel/lotion for 2 different problems and conditions... how is this even possible. tbh with anyone reading this you have been warned not the best practice and not the best listening by dr and they will procrastinate and experiment with new products and tel you to come back to keep your business and sell/promote one of their other businesses to keep it going. i would think twice about coming here and i myself am not coming back here, i will be going to a practice where provider has more knowledge, practice has been open longer and provider has more patients and a practice where provider does not rush me or make me feel more self conscious about my skin and condition. read more

Dr. Vawter performed a miracle on me by prescribing a new medicine on my rare form of skin disease that had traditionally been treated with chemotherapy. She was professional yet caring during the entire process of several months until I was completely healed. She did a lot of research and was instrumental for healing me physically and mentally. I could not thank her enough and I would recommend her to anyone for any form of skin problems because I have never seen another doctor as capable and as kind before. read more

I had a horrible experience with this practice. I was already in crisis with symptoms all over the place. Severe skin irritation, scalp with hard discs forming under the skin and hair loss. My primary prescribed antifungal that didn't work and sent me to a specialist. I told the office staff what an emergency it was and asked if the have any protocol to get me in faster than 2 weeks. The rude office staff said no. In that waiting time I went to urgent care once and then the emergency room. Prescribed a high predisone for symptom relief. It was that bad. Predisone masks the symptom but doesn't cure problem. She refused to address it because symptoms weren't present after I explained what happened. I am still not diagnosed on day 3 off the predisone and I get to wait and see if it's going to happen again. They've only addressed the hair loss and diagnosed Alapecia (means hair loss) which my primary already had diagnosed. Omg this was an emotional exhausting and expensive ride to have someone tell me I have hair loss that had no known cause. I am stunned at the lack of professionalism and the atrocious attitudes of the office staff to someone in so much need of help and compassion read more
