Thriveworks is one of the most unethical mental health companies I've dealt with. They care far more about protecting revenue than doing right by their patients. My EAP clearly stated I had 3 free sessions, but their therapist repeatedly told me I had 6 free sessions and even confirmed it with their Regional Director. Based on that information, I continued treatment and attended a 4th session, only to later get charged because the information THEY provided was wrong. When I disputed the charge, the therapist admitted she gave me incorrect information. Despite acknowledging their own mistake, Thriveworks still refused to refund the charge. That tells you everything you need to know about this company's priorities. As for the actual care, I tried two different therapists and the experience was disappointing. One seemed more focused on scheduling additional appointments and pushing prescriptions than providing meaningful support. The whole experience felt transactional instead of patient-centered. Mental health treatment requires trust, transparency, and accountability. Thriveworks failed on all three. There are far better providers out there that actually care about patients instead of squeezing every dollar they can from them. read more

I am very disappointed with my experience with Thriveworks. I showed up for an intake appointment, but when we discussed concerns about whether this was the right fit for son, she told me she would have to bill me a 135 cancellation fee, even though I made the call. I called billing, and they told me there would be no charges until my case was reviewed, but I was billed later that day regardless. I made an appointment with a therapist for the following week, which was quite a task finding one! She was in my insurance network and accepting new patients. She emailed me to change my appointment to the following day, which I agreed to. I never heard from her or Thriveworks again. My appointment came and nothing. I had to call Thriveworks only to find out that the therapist "cancelled" my appointment under the pretense of "not taking on new clients." Though I thought the session scheduled for my daughter to receive services was quick and she seemed happy with her therapist, it wasn't long after that I realized the session was only about 15 minutes, on a day I was driving with her while she was in her session. I had asked if they would connetc with my daughter directly so she could get her own Zoom link. I work during the day and sometimes get wrapped up with patients. I didn't want her to end up missing a session. I was told no, they wouldn't reach out to her. As a result of busy schedules, my daughter missed a session. I was charged $135 for a cancellation fee. I reached out to see if they would give a 1x forgiveness. I was told no. I manage a dental practice. I realize the value of a professionals time. I also recognize what is excessive and not very ethical or client caring. Definitely not very client friendly and as a result of such an excessive penalty and lack of flexibility, I'll seek services elsewhere. I regret not reading the reviews prior. My therapist name came up on my insurance policy not Thriveworks. Had it come up Thriveworks I would not have bothered. Once it did I figured, what the heck, I was desperate. Well, you have to be to try one of these. Plus, I hate virtual. Therapists, covid is over. Think about your patients well being first as you are suppose to. I scheduled an appointment for treatment for PTSD with thrive works. I got 11 pieces of mail and text almost immediately. I had to cancel and let them know through their email link. Crickets. Then I get an email from the therapist telling me if I don't pick one of the listed appointments he picked im getting a $135 dollar late fee. How about check the email I sent to cancel. Putting my google review here to make sure this reaches the maximum amount of people because I can't recommend NOT GOING HERE enough! Worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. This place is INSIDIOUS. I regret not reading the reviews thoroughly. They don't care about your mental health, they just want your money. Not only do they charge you $135 for a missed appointment, they also DELAY your billing by SEVERAL MONTHS. I should have been charged per session, but APPARENTLY insurance doesn't go through automatically with the horrid company, so MONTHS after not speaking to these people, I am being charged my co-pay for every visit. The customer service is god awful, and the therapists there aren't even good. I was being billed for sessions with a therapist who just spit out coping skills that are common knowledge. The therapist hardly engaged with me, I felt like I was just talking to fill the silence because she wouldn't ask me questions or give advice. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE company DO NOT get therapy here. I know it seems like a relief with how quickly they can get you set up but it is NOT WORTH IT. I had one Telehealth session with Thriveworks and did not have a good experience; decided not to return. The therapist tried to make a couple of very fast diagnoses in under an hour, without even explaining how she was arriving at her conclusions. A good provider explains their thought process. She automatically set me up for weekly appointments without confirming with me; I had to cancel all of them. I was a self-pay client because Thriveworks doesn't accept my insurance (not part of my complaint but might be an important detail to know) and they overcharged me by more than double the amount. When I contacted the therapist for help, she confirmed that that was the wrong amount and said that she'd take care of it by contacting the billing department for me. I monitored my account for a partial refund in the timeframe they promised and didn't see any. So I contacted the therapist again and she said she'd spoken with the billing department and they said it was resolved. My account said otherwise. So I waited a bit longer to see if the refund was just taking some time to get processed,, but no luck. I contacted the therapist again and she gave me the billing department contact information and suggested that I contact them directly. When I did, I found out that instead of a partial refund, I had been given a Thriveworks account credit, and the representative told me I had to specify that I wanted a refund. When I did that, the amount was finally returned to my bank account. It's not clear whether the therapist was covering for the billing department when she told me that the issue was resolved, or if she really thought it was resolved. I also believe that the billing department may have thought they could get away with overcharging me because I was a self-pay client. Overall, not a good experience and the trust is gone. read more

Do not utilize Thriveworks. You may encounter a good therapist, but keep in mind this company is simply a middle-man, and a scam artist at best. Just like a shady local gym, you will be unable to contact their billing department or stop the excessive charges from coming in. I have $400+ of unrecognized charges on my account (more than my regular co-pay, not missing appt fees, what are they?), and I am literally unable to contact anyone about it. I've sent multiple messages through their support portal, have waited on hold for hours, and left my number on their "callback feature" 5 times in the last two weeks. I'm debating issuing fraudulent charge alerts with my bank if I can't get clarity on these figures after a whole month. Clearly, through reading other reviews, this isn't some freak occurrence. Thriveworks is a scam. I had a handful of sessions with a therapist back in 2020, but then she had to leave the practice due to a family situation... I said goodbye and thought nothing of it. TWO YEARS LATER I find out that I've been charged monthly the entire time on a card I don't check often... In that time, they've sent me no invoices, no receipts, no indication that they were charging me for anything. Their website shows no patient information, no booking or billing records... it doesn't even have my full name. You can only cancel by calling them directly. They will only refund the last 2 months worth of payments. I'm guessing they only started sending "receipts" last month because of new federal laws against surprise billing coming into effect. read more

They never make it to the sessions on time if at all. I am owner of my own corporation and HIPPA compliant, and fully aware of these laws. Strict yes, totally agree, however no where in HIPPA compliance does it give a private corporation the right to take away parental rights, and this is a right, and with this in place at this corporation, is in total violation with state and federal laws and is being reported. This is a scam. We attempted pre-martial counseling here, what a joke. After quite a bit of run around and and back forth we had our first 'session' on zoom- the 'counselor' did not introduce himself, did not even say hello, did not ask our names- nothing. We sat for 6 minutes in silence on zoom while he 'read insurance information.' He then, incredible boredly, again without literally a hello or transition, asked us a few intake questions (profession? family history of mental illness? etc) the kind questions that every other office on earth sends as an email. And that was it! It was $99 for those 15 minutes! Despite it being a complete time wasting, impersonal experience, I e-mailed the counselor asking when we could set up our first 'real' session and offered a date suggestion- he e-mailed me back saying to check his scheudle online. I have sent 3 e-mails (never receiving a reply to support@thriveworks.com) and communicated via text 10 times with their 'success navigator'- my last text was asking if there was another point of contact than 'support@thriveworks.com'- which I had never received a return e-mail from. At that point I never heard back from my 'success navigator' again. Thriveworks owes me $99 and was a HORRIBLE counseling experience for people who were trying to 'do the right thing.' I worry about their negative impact on people who finally have the courage to get counseling or who finally get a loved one on board with counseling and THAT is what they get. read more

This business is unethical and engages in practice that are likely illegal in order to maximize profit. But maybe you're not surprised to read that given the other reviews. It's particularly unfortunate because I love working with my specific provider. As for the business, recently they started charging a higher rate (in my case 55% higher) without notice. If they respond and say they offered notice, they are lying. That notice in my case came 5 days after the higher charge. Additionally, because they raised their rates without any notice they put their patients at risk of not being able to afford a much higher rate and having a gap in services provided in order to find a new therapist. I suspect they provided no notice because they would be more likely to retain patients because there is simply no reason to raise prices significantly, without any lead time, but to take advantage of the patients. This would be a terrible business practice in any industry, but to lack basic integrity as a mental health is inexcusable. read more

My therapist was great. The business is horrible. Stay far, far away. I wish I'd listened to the many poor, 1-star reviews of their business practices. They noted my insurance information, then never entered it into their system. They delayed billing me (which I didn't realize until the day after I'd paid for my dog's euthanasia and cremation) for $850. That was an $850 bill that I wasn't expecting and hadn't budgeted for. Their billing office argued with me that I'm uninsured - I'm not. They offered no apologies for their failure to bill me (or my insurance) timely or for surprising me with a bill for $850 out of the blue. This company, at best, has inept managers and an incompetent billing department. At worst? Read the other reviews and decide for yourself whether they're a scam. read more

In line with the other reviews here, this platform is absolute garbage which is a shame because the counselor we were using is awesome. The fact that you have to pay a subscription fee of $39 a month to use this platform, you'd think you'd get better service. However, that is not the case. We are currently dealing with a billing issue which we were billed for services not rendered. We contacted Thriveworks 4-5x and have still not been able to get this resolved. Beyond the billing issue, the past 2 times we have tried to have a session with our counselor this year, the link didn't work and we couldn't have our appointment. This platform has only made trying to work with our counselor stressful. Do not waste your time or money here to only be faced with an incompetent middle man. read more

I am aware there are a few clinicians within Thriveworks that are making in-person appointments with children currently, but it would require you to travel.  I can facilitate a transfer of therapist if this is something you are interested in.   I also have not heard back from you in regards to  my last email. (This is the email I got from my sons counselor the following is my reply) Hello His first session you spoke with Ronald and  I . His second session you guys chatted and played uno. His third session again you played some games and built rapport. His 4th session was a missed appointment where I was charged 99$. Because I never received the proper information to get in touch with you. His 5th session he had a friend at the house but was in his bedroom separately the first half hour. Then you ended the appt at 4:35. His 6th session he was at my friend's house but there where no children present and again you ended the appt prematurely. If this is how you consider appropriate counseling then yes let's switch providers immediately.  I have never been more disappointed with a counseling service in my life. When I posted my earlier review I was asked to write to success at thriveworks.com which I did and never even received a response. Don't do it they lock you into a contract so your stuck for a year! I didn't cancel it. I guess the therapist, Danielle Simon, did without so much as an email to let me know. So let me get this straight - I can't cancel with less than 48 hours notice without being charged a $150 fee, but she can dip out an hour before and that's okay? Garbage. Terrible experience! I just moved and needed a provider to manage a medication that was already working well for me. I scheduled an appointment with one of their providers who advertised in their profile that they are knowledgeable about OCD. Turns out he was not aware that it often requires a higher dose than anxiety/depression and was really skeptical/reluctant to continue my dose. He instead kept offering to try different combinations of medications. Why would I want to spend weeks and weeks experimenting with my body when I already have a regimen that works for me? In addition, he was distracted-his phone rang at one point, and at another point he got on a video call with someone else without even telling me he was going to do so. He finally agreed to prescribe a month's worth of my medication, but said he would have to get approval from his team and meet again in a month to tell me the verdict for a long term prescription. And then, after that, he wanted to meet every other month. What an insane amount of money to throw at meeting with someone who isn't even very knowledgeable about my condition. My advice is to stay away. read more
