The therapist we have is OK but the Thriveworks organization is horrible. I received notice of $135 cancellation fee for an appointment that I was never notified for! The phone system is not easily navigated by an ordinary human being and when confronted the counselor was understanding but the payment side of the business would not budge on the fee even though the appointment was re-booked in the same week. After reaching out to the email address provided in response to my initial review I was able to get in touch with someone that listened to my story and granted me a full refund/dropped my balance. It took a couple of months and several follow ups, but in the end they pulled through and got me taken care of. The person I was in touch with was very kind and communicative. My first intake appointment had to be canceled, and the family member who was also attending was unexpectedly hospitalized for an aggressive pneumonia. I was not able to get ahold of anyone for weeks and when I finally do, I am told to submit discharge papers in order to avoid the $135 late fee. I submit them and spend an hour on hold for them to tell me the documentation is not sufficient. The family member was in the hospital for several months with this infection, and therefore, the date is past the appointment. I had one session and then because i got covid and missed an appointment that was not intentional I even emailed my therapist to let them know that I'm really sick and that I look forward to my next session and when I went into my portal all of my sessions were canceled on me . Terrible experience. I was working with a counselor through Betterhelp for years, paying out of pocket but he wanted to be able to utilize people's insurance, and so he switched to this company. He was under the impression it would save me money because I'd just be paying a copay. After 2 sessions, I was billed nearly $300, AFTER insurance and had to completely end my therapy sessions. The worst part is that they notified me of the bill and not even 2 weeks later, took the money out of my bank account (you have to provide debit card info upon signing up.) Hugely disappointed and feel completely ripped off. They didn't offer any kind of payment arrangement, did no billing over than one text, then just took the $. Natasha cooper does not need to work with any patients. She was completed disrespectful and this was my first time meeting her . She has literally ruined my entire day from being a a**hole and should not be working with patients that have anxiety. She was extremely rude and after answering her questions and it responding they way she saw fit, she became even more rude . She did not show any form of empathy, she did not even care to understand my background nor ask and she made me feel like I was nothing. I am requesting the zoom call be pulled to listen to how unprofessional she was. I asked several times how she would like for me to answer and she responded with the same ignorance. NEVER GO HERE. Online prices on their websites are completely false. even for your specific therapist you get, they completely misinformed me. they said $99 per session WITHOUT copay. I have insurance and they told me over the phone multiple times it was cover at least half. get this. I only went TWO TIMES. And they charged me $395 for ONE SESSION! First because they NEVER billed my insurance like they said they did and would (because I called Tricare and they told me). AND Because it was labeled a "psych evaluation". which never happened. The therapist asked me a few questions about my past And that was IT. $395. And she ended the session 15 minutes before the hour ended so she could "have time to put the notes into her computer" and I was charged the full 60 minutes. ONCE AGAIN, $395! Then, I finally settled my bill issues, they changed the bill to $113 thank GOD, and finally put it through my insurance. But it still says they charged my insurance $395 for the first session. when ONCE AGAIN, online, it says $99, even for first session. AND this isn't even the beginning. the therapist I was given, Taylor Coghill. Was completely unprofessional. She NEVER psych evaluated me, which, I would know because I see a therapist AND a psychiatrist who both have done psych evals. AND, she would sit on her phone WHILE I was talking. I would be talking about traumatic events, and she'd be on her phone. And randomly nod "mhm mhm yes". With NO eye contact? Yeah no thanks. For someone who "specializes in anxiety disorders", she made me even more anxious, unseen and unheard. Then, as I said before, she ended session 15-20 minutes early to put notes into the computer, yet still charged me for the full 60 minutes?? I just personally don't think that's fair. to summarize, over the phone, they are super sweet and helpful but, I was not only completely MISINFORMED, but my therapist was unprofessional and inconsiderate. read more

First I want to say - please get help if you need. I just would not recommending doing so through any Thriveworks locations. If you do continue, please note that cancelling a counselor and cancelling a membership must be done separately. I tried two therapists here. I didn't connect with either (one of them fell asleep during multiple of my sessions.) After this, I called Thriveworks and cancelled and expressed that I was not interested in continuing with Thriveworks. Thriveworks LLC does not appear to want to actually help others. Membership fee of $39.00/mo in addition to $359.00 for a 45 min session with a pre-licensed counselor? Mind you, I have nothing against pre-licensure work; however, this young lady had ZERO interest in actually getting to know me and my particular issue. No eye contact and quick to let me know future sessions could range anywhere from 16 to 53 mins. I closed out the session feeling worse than when I entered. Online counseling is a fantastic way to offer mental health services to those unable to get to regular 9-5 office hours, but we deserve respect and attention too. They will negatively impact your mental health! Do not go here! This business is predatory and unethical. They signed me up with the belief that it was a 1-time membership payment versus monthly. The first payment email I received even says "One Time Membership Fee" The initial appointment was billed to my insurance for $395 and called a "psych diagnosis". That was not the service I requested. And they didn't perform a psych diagnosis - the counselor asked your standard background questions. After I realized I was being charged monthly on top of the session fees, which were $130 after insurance, I called on 4/13/22 to cancel my membership and told them to take my credit card information off file. I asked them if I owed them any more money - they said no. I was assured that my credit card information was taken off file. On 4/20/22 they charged my credit card $261! I spent over an hour on the phone with them, asking them to reverse the charge and let me set up a payment plan. They denied this over and over because quote on quote "you received a statement, therefore we can't set you up on a payment plan". This is so unethical! 1 week after calling and being told I owe nothing and then they charge me and are unwilling to do a payment plan because they sent a statement?! That doesn't even make sense - that is less than a week to pay $261! This company does not care about your mental health. In fact, their business practices are intentional set up to harm mental health, cause stress, and exploit people at their most vulnerable times. Please take caution. Do not go here. read more

Thriveworks originally asked me to call and make an appointment locally, they told me they all shared the same office, I live in Charlotte NC. They said the soonest they could get me in was the next week in Raleigh (3 hours away), they said I could switch back to Charlotte after. I allowed them to do an assessment for 35$. I then canceled the appointment as I found someone local. They continued to charge me for 4 months plus a cancellation fee. They refused to even refund any part of the funds they took, while I received absolutely no service. Avoid at all cost. read more

This company is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any service. The link they sent me to sign up didn't work, so they sent me another one. Somehow, it created a 2nd account, and I couldn't even access anything. So, when I would book an appointment, I couldn't even see it. When I get a bill, I couldn't even see it. I spoke to them on 5 occasions asking them to just start over and delete it; they admitted it was their mistake but that they weren't going to do that. They said I could just call my therapist and book appointments that way, but the whole point of the service is to book with the portal conveniently and easily. So, I canceled my account, I've already paid all of my dues for my 4 sessions, and now I'm getting emails saying I'm overdue. It has been a living hell dealing with this company. This review is not specific to a certain Thriveworks location, it is specific to the Thriveworks organization in general. My son received excellent therapy through Thriveworks in Boston and we were very pleased with the help he received. However, when he had to stop therapy seven months ago and move back home to Colorado, we kept noticing a charge on our credit card. We thought it was just his copay for sessions he had done while still in Boston, but it turns out it wasn't. Apparently, he signed a consent form when he first became a patient and the form allows Thriveworks to charge us $19 per month for a "membership fee". We have still been paying this membership fee for the last seven months, even though he has not been a patient through Thriveworks for that time period. When I called to get my money back, they were only willing/able to refund me for three months-even though he isn't a patient of theirs anymore and he doesn't even live in Boston anymore! They said this was a fee that was charged automatically once the consent form was signed. Needless to say, I am not happy with their policies. I'm not sure if you can opt out or not, but please check before you sign up for their services. I feel this is a deceitful and unacceptable practice that takes advantage of people who are already having a difficult time. read more

Terrible service! Our therapist flaked after 2 sessions and we continued to get billed monthly. When asked for a refund I was told I would be contacted within 24 hours with a response. When I did not hear back for a week I called to check on the status. Not only was I transferred twice, waited 45 minutes AND denied a refund but was then made to feel that it was MY fault because I should have received a refund the same day I canceled services. I am writing a review based off of the experience that I had today. I work long hours and taking the time to schedule an appointment is challenging for me because of work. I scheduled an appointment today and was seen my my provider who said that I had not completed a consent form to be seen. I was sent a form and clicked on the link for E-signing the form. The provider said that he never received it on his end and after 20 mi of signing a form and sending it back it was never received. The provider said that he will have to reschedule based off of this info and that there was no one left for him to reach out to. Six fraudelent billing charges totalling almost $800, in one month!!! They outright lie about processing refunds, while they make new unauthorized charges, larger than the previous ones. So desperate to rip you off, they even charge EXPIRED cards. Not sure how that's even possible, but it is! UPDATE 1: After spending all morning dealing with not receiving the promised refund, 12 days after the company claimed to send it and contacting Ryan C, the business manager that responded below, guess what they did next? 19 minutes after my last call, they tried to force through, their 6th fraudulent charge for $293.70!!!!!!! I'm about to go to their local office to sit out in front and share the 100 plus, negative reviews for theft, that they have worked feverishly to earn!!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE 2) I've now identified significant insurance fraud being committed by Thriveworks! They have attempted to charge my insurance company for their most expensive "FAMILY" service, as opposed to the "INDIVIDUAL" sessions, they actually provided. That's $250, versus $110! Therapists are ok but I was charged out of pocket for the full amount of each appointment even though my insurance covered the service and each session. Essentially it was like I was double charged for each session. They also charged my credit card a random $200 dollars at one point. Upon contacting billing they said the $200 charge was "an accounting error as there was a glitch in the system." I am glad that I continually checked my account. I told my therapist I didn't want to meet again and that this would be our last session. Several months later, I notice I am still being charged. I reached back out to my therapist and she said to call billing. I have now called 4 times, been on hold numerous times, I've asked for a manager the last two times and have not gotten through. I was also told that I would have an update to my issue and it has not been one month and no update. So I guess it's not enough to let my therapist know you're not meeting. BTW, she also did not tell me at that point that I would have to contact billing. Now, DURING A PANDEMIC, when mental health issues are on the rise, here is a "mental health" company trying to get money off their patients by a technicality and making it EXTREMELY difficult to reach anyone, to get a refund, etc. I am going to report them to the Better Business Bureau, and I highly recommend EVERYONE who has had similar issues do the same.
