I've had both my maternity and newborn photos taken by Julie Tsao and I've been very pleased with…read moremy results both times. Some reasons we love Julie: -The pictures turn out great (the ultimate goal after all) -They were convenient to get done (she can come to your home - so important when you have a newborn and aren't sleeping) -Julie provides great directions on posed shots (though she also took plenty of natural shots too) -She provides photos faster than the industry standard - for us, she sent the preview photos the day after the shoot and the final photos less than a month after a shoot (key when you have a baby that's growing so fast) For our maternity photos, Julie took the photos a 5 minute walk from our townhome, so the location was very convenient. But the photos are angled to largely not include buildings so it looks like a beautiful woodsy area. She also took the photos at the end of the day so the lighting is perfect. For our newborn photos, you can either go to Julie's home near Vienna metro for photos, or she can bring the studio to you. She also asked for my input ahead of the shoot on which color themes I'd like for the newborn photos, which I really appreciated since we were able to think about outfits for ourselves that worked with those colors. The newborn session includes a complimentary family mini session, which resulted in the best picture that has ever been taken of our family (imagine coordinating smiles on multiple people including a toddler). Actually, we are planning to order a big canvas print of our family photo because we're so in love with it! We almost didn't get maternity and newborn photos done but now that we've seen how great they turned out, we can't imagine not having them.

I have never met a more unprofessional wedding photographer, and I have years of experience of…read morebeing an assistant to a wedding photographer. This woman showed up in a t-shirt style jumper and sneakers to start. Comfort and mobility are important working, but so is blending in with a formal environment of a wedding. She was frazzled and didn't provide any direction and didn't have a plan, even though she was supposedly familiar with the venue and should know what photos she planned on taking. While, we, the bridal party was getting hair and makeup done for the wedding, she was snapping stills of the brides accessories for close to an hour. Where did she take these photos of the accessories? On the floor in the bathroom. This caused her to break my 1890s diamond and pearl pendant that I was loaning the bride into multiple pieces. I have no idea if she stepped on it or knelt on it moving crap around, but when confronted she insisted it was in pieces when she was taking photos already. It wasn't, I had check it that morning before she touched it and the chain was found on the floor in the bathroom. The rare, baroque nature pearl was never found. I had no recourse because she deleted any photos that would have shown the whole necklace. She didn't even try to find the missing pieces or apologize. When she did finally get around to taking photos of the bridal party, well behind schedule, there were zero instructions. No one knew what photos were being taken, no one knew where to go for the photos. The bride had a surprise for the groom that she knew about, but was no where to be found when it showed up. She kept directing us to walk through the grass in heels and then would change her mind once we got there so we had to keep going back and forth in muddy grass getting our dresses and shoes dirty. She didn't do any photography basics of staging and posing the bridal party, flooding the dress or giving any direction on how to stand, turn and face her for good photos. There is some actual skill in taking a good photo, not just relying on photoshop to do it all for you. It is also not the bridal parties responsibility to set up the photo. I have never had to do so much work being the subject of the photo. The other wedding aids who have worked with her in the past confirmed that she is always behind schedule and less than professional. During the reception she was in the way of everyone dancing trying to get photos. Wedding guests were having to constantly move around her. Even without her destroying an heirloom necklace, she is not someone I would ever hire. I will say the bride and groom turned out beautiful, they are beautiful people and it's not hard to capture that. Following this review, they were contacted and begging to have it removed, so I did edited it. Once again they failed to take accountability for their mistakes and use a negative review to do better. Everyone deserves a chance to improve, but if they aren't willing to listen to criticism they never will. I wait to give reviews until I am no longer livid with the experience and can give a fair and accurate review. You don't have to be a paying customer to have a horrible experience with a business. Do better.

I was obsessed with Danni Starr's Maternity and Newborn pictures and one of my best friend's Maternity and Newborn pictures that Judah Avenue had photographed. In the early stages of planning, I was so hesitant to reach out to them, because with our wedding less than six months away, I was sure they would be booked and could NOT handle that disappointment. After searching for other photographers in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area, I kept coming back to our first choice-nothing could compare to the beauty, elegance, and creativity of their photos. So I took a chance, preparing for the worse. I emailed Judah Avenue in March of 2017, for our September 2017 wedding and for the second time in my life (only second to meeting my husband), I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! THEY WERE AVAILBLE!! And not only that, buy they had also started doing Wedding videography as well! I'm telling you I was so happy I could have cried! Within the week I had spoke to Nafa (the main photographer and founder) as well as exchanged emails with Suzan and put down a deposit for both photography and videography. I cannot explain how sweet these ladies were and how extremely helpful they were during this process. As it got closer and closer to the wedding, Susan became one of the people who completely helped pull my wedding together. Going SOO above and beyond, she helped coordinate the timeline and participated in numerous conference calls with my day-of-coordinator. I am the most indecisive and ill prepare bride in the world and Susan's calmness, knowledge, professionalism, and compassion really made such a difference in the weeks before my wedding. The day before my wedding, Nafa called to relate how excited she was to photograph the wedding and asked if there were any last minute things that they could help with. After getting off the phone with her, I couldn't help but feel so blessed to how this all worked out. On the day of the wedding, Suzan emailed me her best wishes and congratulations for the day. Judah Avenue and its staff had become so much more for me then just photographers- in the weeks leading up to my wedding, they were my sanity! So the wedding day came and I was shocked to see the number of photographers and videographers and managers present to capture my wedding! We had the pleasure of working with photographers Nafa, Nii, and Joseph, with videographers Sherwyn, Kai, and Biam, and manager Nigel. While this may sound like a lot of people, I assure you, once the ceremony and reception got started, they completely blended into the crowd and still somehow capturing amazing footage! Both the photographers and videographers were so helpful in terms of posing, timelines, ideas for pictures, and suggestions throughout the night in order to get the best pictures possible. They were so fun, and kind, and flexible with our suggestions as well- we could not have asked for a better experience. My husband and his groomsmen said they best part of the wedding was taking pictures before the ceremony!! They truly made it feel like we had invited our closest friends to our wedding, who happened to have cameras and be wearing black. They were so amazing, they were even able to pull my husband and I aside during the reception for a mini sparkler session!! Judah Avenue's contract ended about an hour and a half before the actual reception ended and we were actually pretty sad to see them go! About three weeks after the wedding, Maria was in touch with us to provide us a couple (5) pictures while we waited for our sneak peak to be ready! What a tease! It was amazing to have a couple of pictures so soon and it left us just wanting more! We could already tell from the few pictures that we were going to love what was to come!! About 3 weeks later, Maria again provided us with a link to a Sneak Peak Gallery with even more pictures (nearly 150) and a 5 minute highlight video! We were so amazed with the photos and had such a fun time recollecting moments from out wedding together! We had already begun picking images that we wanted to frame around our house, but then remembered that Maria said that this wasn't even the all the final photos, and the remaining would be ready in the next couple weeks! I don't think I need to wait for those photos to leave this review. I am so, beyond words, grateful to have had Judah Avenue as my Wedding Photographer and Videographer.
