Brisket, Glow Slaw and Collard Greens
Mark W.

Two Thumbs Up is banging. This is my favorite BBQ joint in San Diego and it just happens to be connected to my favorite brewery, Burgeon Brewing Company. You have to try the brisket, with glow slaw and collard greens. I have had the good fortune of meeting and getting to know the Founders, Haley and Miles. These people are great people, they are the best of us and they infuse love into every bite. Do yourself a favor and get some two thumbs up BBQ in your life. !

Great people and positive vibes!! We ordered the 2x2 and meat platter and the collard greens were bomb.com! The Mac and cheese were okay, and the corn balls were good. The brisket was delicious and I love the fatty pieces. The sausages were flavorful too. The pulled pork was tender but a tad salty and the rib tips had a few pieces a little dry. Don't forget the sauces that are located inside Burgeon, the mustard sauce was the best! Overall, this is a great place to chill with friends and grab a beer and eat delicious bbq food. The owners are super nice and friendly!Definitely will be back to try other food items.

Wow!!!! First off the owners are so nice and they were working so hard! We went to a Brewery and they had this amazing food stand. We hadn't heard of them and thought we would give it a try. Holy cow the food was so good! I am now an avid follower of this food pop up. You can't go wrong ordering any of the items on the menu. Seriously follow them and give them a try you won't be disappointed.

Y'all, I'm a Texas girl and picky about BBQ, so please trust me when I say that Thumbs Up is THE BEST BBQ I've had in Cali and sone of the best I've ever had -- ever. I usually can't wait to dig in before taking a photo so I wish I had a pic of their brisket plate with mac-n-cheese & baked beans to show you but don't hesitate. Order that (or make it a brisket sandwich), smother all of it with their house made BBQ sauce, and send the 'cue gods some gratitude for the party happening in your mouth. Hailee and Myles are some of the nicest & funniest human beings you'll meet on planet earth, so you're supporting a local biz run by honest, hardworking people when you order from Thumbs Up. - fresh, quality ingredients - flavor, texture, seasoning - presentation - service - variety (vegetarian & vegan options, all of them DELICIOUS, and plenty of healthy options as well)

Originally had their food a couple years ago at the Burgeon in Escondido and loved it then. Found myself in Carlsbad yesterday and saw they were at the Yarrow location Burgeon and went specifically again for the food. It may have been even better than what I had before. All 3 items I got were seriously perfection and all paired well together. The brisket was fall apart tender, the corn salad had a nice bit of acid to cut through some of the fat of brisket and cream from mac & cheese. If you're in the area give them a visit, it rivals any bbq I've had in the SD County area. To top it off they are both very nice people and make sure you enjoy your food. This is definitely a business I'll continue to follow and support.

Needed to update my review of Hailey and Myles because COME ON! Their BBQ is out of this world. AND they have a new residency at Burgeon - best beers you'll taste. We were so excited when they started popping up around the county again. The food is made with love and it shows! My favorite part of knowing them, and being a long time supporter of their business is that they are the crazy most fun people, who want you to enjoy the entire experience of your food. Good location, amazing vibes and insanely good eats. We are big fans of any food they offer to our mouths - faves are the brisket, the glow slaw, Mac n cheese, cheese balls, sausages. No matter your bbq tastes, they serve their gorgeously and well prepared meat naked - you can sauce it up or down, and their sauce options are wildly varied enough that you can choose your own delicious adventure. The last time we enjoyed a meal with them was a couple of weeks ago, and Eric was also working. Kindest guy, gave us really good food recs while Myles enthusiastically entertained us with his love of a good "cook out", and the vibe of just enjoying the vibe. And Hailey was chaperoning their sweet poodle, who, if BBQ and BACON wasn't the motto, would be the mascot. So glad we have BBQ friends for life with the Witcher's, and so grateful for every well prepared meal we enjoy with them!

Sasquatch Sandwich! Wow!

First time trying this place. Some of my employees told me to go here and I would love it. Well, they were not wrong. I haven't had good BBQ since I left Texas. But I have to say, this is amazing. I got the Sasquatch Sandwich and a side of BBQ beans with a taste of brisket. The brisket is smoked and slow cooked to make it good and tender. The pulled pork sandwich was terrific. You really must have a good appetite if you go here because the portion size is huge! The owners are super friendly, and service is great. What else could you want?

So delicious!!! I had the one main and two sides plate. The pulled pork was heavenly. It was some of the best pulled pork I have ever had in my life. The flavor was delicious. I had the sides of greens and the Mac and cheese. I think I would probably try different sides next time. The Mac and cheese seemed a bit watery and the greens needed some salt (but to each their own). Don't forget to get all of the sauces and the pickles. If could slurp down that OG sauce. Overall it was great and glad we tried it when we were at Belching Beaver

Raining big time yet Thumbs Up feeds us at Burgeon. Gotta love their commitment to excellence. 5 Stars!!

We have been buying great meals from Thumbs Up for nearly 5 years. And unlike most eatery's I like, this one always impresses . In fact the food startled out great years ago but the owners here have fine tuned each item they sell. I'm a big fan of their pulled pork, coleslaw & corn salad. Yes, brisket, bacon. . . . ect. are all 5 Stars but for me the pulled pork and salads deserve 6 stars. Now that north county's best brewery has them 5 days a week there's no reason to go anywhere else.

Rib tips (with greens and corn salad). Absolutely delicious. Incredibly juicy and flavorful.
Craig W.

I love rib tips--and they are very good here--but their pulled pork has converted me. It is amazingly moist and tender and you get a ton of it. I will never order anything else from these folks. It is pulled pork for me until death do we part. It is absolutely delicious. For the sides, we tried the "Glow Slaw," the "Smackaroni" and cheese (hey, I don't make these names up), the cornbread balls, and the BBQ beans. The Glow Slaw is a mustard-based coleslaw and it is tangy and outstanding. The BBQ beans are also terrific. The cornbread balls (and you get a bunch of them) are a great accompaniment to good BBQ. I didn't love the mac and cheese--it was fine but it just wasn't as creamy as I would have liked. I found myself longing a little bit for that box of Kraft mac and cheese back at home. Oh well. This is outstanding BBQ. They can be found here and there but they are often found outside the Lost Abbey in San Elijo Hills.

Yummy bbq and slaw wrap, so good!!

Always great service and amazing yummy BBQ and food. AND they pair so well with Burgeons beer! Cheers

My husband and I really enjoyed the brisket the sausage links, the potato salad and coleslaw. The tri-tip unfortunately was kinda dry and the ribs were a little tough. And the Mac and cheese were super garlicky. This bbq place is ok, it's nice and big and has a nice relaxing atmosphere. But I would stick to the brisket and hot links and the sides.

So I was hesitant to try this. However, I'm so glad I did. It was tender and succulent. I would order it again. The tri tip was amazing as were the baby backs. Yep, I'll be back for the baby backs. The Mac and cheese was ok. I prefer backed mac and cheese. But that's my preference. Im picky about greens and I really liked them. We had the privilege of an extended conversation with one of the owners, Maria Jeannette. But it's softballs, not baseballs. Service is legit. Fast, friendly. They're like get in, order, get out. But we stayed for probably an hour and a half. The live music was great, not too loud. I am sad to confess the food here is not as legit as I figured based on being a San Diego local and a big DDD watcher. It probably depends on which day you come, but on Thursday, the brisket was so average. Del's in Del Cerro is better. Smoky and the Brisket is better. I had my brisket served with that nacho cheese and relish, not nearly as great as I thought it would be based on DDD. I also don't drink anymore, but if I were to have had 2-3 beers + this dinner + the enviornment I would have loved it. My son gave a huge thumbs up to his burger, daughter liked her food. If you want an experience, have time you need to kill and have kids, it's a solid spot, but in no way is this a destination if you live west of the 15. Stick to classic spots.
