Ordered 2 meat plate with cornbread and Texas toast. The cornbread was nice my Texas toast came out smooshed but was still tasty. I got pulled pork and the smoked meatloaf. The pulled pork was delicious and the smoked meatloaf had just the right amount of smoke. For sides, I got the bacon, potato salad and the Street corn. I've had both of these sides before and they hit just right each time. I also ordered the bourbon pecan pie to go. This is the first time having the bourbon pecan pie. I did find some shelves in it, which were a little unpleasant, but at least I know that it's real pecans. It does have a strong bourbon flavor so it may not be the best for kids. To drink, I got the guava lemonade. I arrived with my pup and we sat outside. Everybody was super dog friendly. They brought a nice bowl of water for my guy. However my friend said her brisket was full of fat happy no beef after all I just had the ribs. They were tasty and meaty. Definitely try their homemade "thousand Big Mac Chic Filet" sauce on the side, it's way better than the original. They also have spicy and reg BBQ sauce on the table, and the burgers are legit. Our server Maki (pronounced like the fish) was amazing, but honestly, the whole staff is top tier. She checked on us at least 5 times, kept the beer coming, and stayed on top of soda refills. Visiting San Diego and the fam needed lunch after a visit at SDSU. Looked on yelp and this came up as highly rated. When I drove up, I was a little nervous because the location seemed odd with it being primary residential apartments but there were a lot of cars especially for mid day Tuesday so we went with it. It was taco Tuesday so I got three tacos and the house margarita. Chicken breast taco was so good and the crispy cod was even better. Margarita was good, simple traditional flavor and for $6 it was a steal! We also ordered the street corn, burger with fries and Cobb salad. Cobb was one of the best and chicken was very flavorful rather than bland and dry. Service was fast and super friendly! Never had to wait looking for water, food, check. We found out about this place in restaurant week. First plus point for them is they have the areas for the kids to play. My kids had a lot of fun. All of the staffs are very nice and friendly. To be honest, I didn't put too much expectation on the food before I came but it was a surprise for us. All of the food are delicious and the portion is big too. For appetizers we got brisket chili and best mac and cheese. It was so good. The classic burger is great. The meat is well seasoned and juicy. The best is part fowl sandwich, the sauce is a little spicy kick in and the chicken is juicy. I brought the left over home and the next day when I heat up, the chicken still moist and not dry. MAKI B is the best server, she is so friendly welcoming and on it. We came for a quick and random lunch on our anniversary and she was so fun and energetic. I feel like that's hard to find in food service, but everyone really was great from the second we waited in line to leaving. We had my mini dachshund with us and it was so hot outside and she welcomed us in to wait by the door. When our table wasn't ready they kept updating us and keeping us in the loop. I really appreciate how clean this restaurant is for a BBQ place. Too many of them get dirty and sticky but this place is clean and nice. They have their own parking lot which is perfect and it's accessible for people with disabilities. The service was amazing. Kind and knowledgeable staff all around. We got the platter for 2 that included chicken, pulled pork, brisket, corn bread, jalapeno hominy gratin, Mac and cheese, and beans. All about 60 bucks which is well worth it. The pork was by far the best, so juicy and flavorful. We also loved the chicken and brisket even if it was a tad on the dry side. The jalapeno hominy was AMAZING. Totally worth the up charge. What a unique little side dish, definitely something to try. The beans were also great and the Mac and cheese was pretty standard. Shout out to Dulce for helping us grab some tables for our large party of almost 20 people, and to Alejandro for being such a great server! Stopped in last night to celebrate my husband's birthday. Although Del's doesn't take reservations, we were able to snag a few tables right next to the kids play area. It was perfect since we had so many kids in our party. All the food was delicious -- from their baked beans, corn bread, onion rings, and to their barbecue selection. We ordered the 12 party meal plus some appetizers for the kids such as the Mac & cheese and chicken tenders. Everyone was commenting on how good everything was. Honestly, this has become one of our favorite barbecue spots! Their bbq sauce is also really good, it had the right amount of sweetness and slight tang without being too thick. Came on a Wednesday as did not realize it was "kids eat free day" so the restaurant was packed with families. My friend and I sat at the bar. They have quick the extensive list of beers and I got a hazy ipa that was delicious. For food I got the pulled pork sandwich and opted for the street corn side. The food was delicious! The pulled pork had such a good flavor and didn't feel super fatty. Bbq sauce wasn't overloaded and the slaw added a nice crunch. The street corn was also surprising in a good way. We arrived at Del's at about 5:30. It was pretty busy and we were seated at the last four-top table next to the noisy and bright arcade games. This was not the ideal place to enjoy a meal, but we didn't have a choice at that moment. So we perused the menu and made some important meal choices. M. opted for the two meat combo plate with tri-tip and brisket, collard greens, bacon potato salad & corn bread. I ordered the SOB Salad and a side of Mac n' Cheese. Waters w/ lemon to drink. Our waiter was friendly and gave us good service up until our food was delivered, and then he got a few new tables and got a bit swamped. Sadly, although our food came out promptly, it was pretty meh. M. said the tri-tip was mostly fat, the brisket lacked seasoning, and the BBQ sauce was underwhelming and ketchup-forward. He liked the collard greens and the cornbread. I tried the pickles and they were quite sweet and they had a strong and unpleasant aftertaste. I normally love pickles, but these were not it. My salad was huge, and the portion of crispy chicken was generous. I'm honestly not mad about the salad. The mac n' cheese was mild and tasty, but it was lukewarm. I would have enjoyed it more if it was hot. The arcade games got kind of busy while we were eating, and it felt like being in a Dave & Buster's which was not the vibe I was going for. M. nearly got hit in the head by a Dad toting a huge Trader Joe's bag and playing a Ninja Turtles game with his kiddo. So the ambiance of this place is part sports bar - part BBQ resto - and part kid-friendly family funhouse. It's super if that is what you are looking for. After finishing our food, we sat idly for ten minutes, and then a Manager inquired how were were doing. We asked for a to-go cup for the Mac and the check. She asked one of her co-workers to take care of that for us. The co-worker Dulce (sp) came by with the little electronic Toast card reader and said that our bill was $68.34. That didn't seem right to me even with tax, so I asked her to print it out. She came back with a printout and handed it to me. Turns out that the restaurant charges a 5% supplemental fee to "offset rising costs." At the time, I didn't realize (until I researched it while writing this review) that there was a note at the very bottom of the menu that indicated that this charge would be added to checks, but we could opt out if we wanted... so keep in mind that this fee is added, but no one tells you about it. So, long story short, the food is quite expensive for what you get, and the actual taste & quality of the food is hit or miss. I read through a bunch of reviews, and I think that other reviewers capture many key points, so rather than be redundant, my review is more of a comment for ownership/management (and caveat for vegans). Yes, I know it's a barbeque restaurant, so I didn't expect it to be overly vegan-friendly, and I checked ahead on options for the two vegans in our group of 8 - they looked sufficient (a veggie/Impossible burger, a vegan chicken sandwich, and fries not fried in beef tallow), so the vegans gave a thumbs up on my choice despite being a BBQ/meat-heavy menu. There are plenty of other options that are vegetarian, but not vegan. The problem is that the two items I mentioned are served on brioche buns...not vegan. We asked for optional bread choice and were told that the only option was white toast. So, in addition to removing the cheese and dairy-based sauces, had to settle for white toast or no sandwich bread at all. Not a deal-breaker, but certainly an opportunity for Del's to have some vegan-friendly options like a better bread and maybe a vegan sauce alternative. I (non-vegan) had the Reuben which comes on a nice marble rye - there are plenty of good rye breads that are dairy-free, but we were told that the rye was not vegan. Overall, I'd go back, but when in a group with various dietary restrictions, I'd avoid Del's. Just as an aside, my son (one of the vegans in our group) told me he went to Grand Ole BBQ in North Park, they had plenty of things he could eat, and he loved the food there...so take note CRG! read more

Del's Hideout is one the many Cohn restaurants that provides great service and delicious food. It's located in a semi-weird spot in between hotels and residential area but pretty easy to find. There's enough on-site parking as well as street parking so that should not be an issue even on busier times. The restaurant has a fun vibe to it, arcades along the wall, a nice decent size bar and a play area for kids. We ordered a variety of things to share and they were all on-point. Ate here today with the family. To start off, parking is a problem. They have a tiny parking lot bordered by 2 hotels. We parked down the road, about a 10 minute walk. We did not have a reservation, so we stood outside in the sun for about 30 minutes or so waiting for a table that could accommodate 8 people. I didn't plan the event myself, so I don't know if they even take reservations. If they do, then that's our fault. It is an open air concept, so it's very hot in the restaurant. You sit on hard chairs with a bicycle under the table that limits leg room. There is no shortage of hillbilly music to listen too as you dine on the ill seasoned subpar food. The beer menu sucks. Thankfully I didn't need to use the restroom. Who knows what I would have encountered there. The only positive thing I can think of is that the employees are friendly and accommodating. I would not recommend this place to anyone, nor would I return. If the restaurant offered to pay for a meal with drinks for our family, I still would not return. read more

I cannot even express how cheap the food is in comparison to other bbq places... not to mention, that this place also has deals monthly or even daily depending on the season/day. The ambiance is very much casual and can totally see a mixture of college students, sports lovers, bbq lovers, etc. dining at this spot. This place offers 10+ televisions so a sports day is a must here. Not to mention that there is also a kid section for the little ones. The bathrooms are clean but the extra door in the women's big stall always freaks me out for some reason. The parking is not the greatest, and sometimes you do have to parallel park on the street if none are available in the tiny lot that they have. The bbq sauce is SO tasty, so tasty that I even witnessed an elderly man squeeze the whole bottle into his to-go box. As an SDSU grad and 'Aztec For Life' I was more than familiar with the location of Del's Hideout. As I recall, it used to be Nicolosi's back in the day, resplendent with Aztec and San Diego State pennants and memorabilia. Hooboy, has this neighborhood grown up ! I thought perhaps I was lost amid the new apartment buildings and condos, but sure enough, the restaurant showed up right where I remembered it to be. It is less a college hangout now and more a family barbecue restaurant, a few token Aztec reminders here and there, and way more TVs. There are daily specials, and families love the Wednesday Special, Kids Eat Free. Since it was Thursday, I chose the special, a draft beer, fries and a cheeseburger for about $19. The beer was served in an ice cold glass, but the fries were mediocre, not exactly hot and somewhat hard. The star of this show was definitely the cheeseburger, which was outstanding. A fresh bun, pickles, lettuce, cheese and a nice juicy meat patty. Unfortunately the seating is fast food quality, hard seats designed more for turnover than comfort. Parking can get scarce during peak hours, despite a decently sized lot. read more

Loved this place! It truly is a "hideout." Such an adventure getting to this place . There is lots of parking in both the lot & on the street. We got there right at opening & got some food to go. It was all out in less than ten minutes. The plan was to stay & play but the play area for the kids was under construction at the time. They've got some fun arcade games in there too that helped keep the kids occupied. Our waitress was super sweet & attentive during the time that we were in there. The onion rings were good enough to share with 3-4 people and we absolutely loved the deviled eggs. We got the 4 meat with brisket, tri tip and 2 of the ribs. The brisket was a little dry, the tri tip was good, just a touch dry and the ribs were great. Cornbread was a little dry. As for the sides we ordered the cheesy hominy, (texture wise it threw me off and it was too starchy), the tri tip chili was good, would've been great with some sour cream, the street corn and greens were great. We should've just stuck with those instead of upgrading. As for the dessert, I should've went with what Maki suggested, but I like warm desserts with ice cream. We got the bread pudding and she was right, it would be great with a sauce. A great sauce would've been the sauce they put on the blondie at Applebees. Plus the ice cream scoop was rock solid we had to wait for it to melt a bit. Memorial weekend and you would think the restaurant would plan accordingly but they ran out of pulled pork! They offered to double up on the brisket on the feast order, but didn't say anything about a surcharge. Very disappointed in getting the surcharge because they ran out of pulled pork. What's with putting dining table right next to the arcade machines? At least put the parties with kids at these tables and save the other tables for those that have no interest in arcade games read more
