Being the carnivore I am, my Father's Day celebration consisted of a meat fest with some of my in-laws at Abbey's Real Texas BBQ. Abbey's had been on my Yelp's Want To Go list for some time, so I'm glad I finally got to grub on Texas BBQ along with my family. There definitely were some notable meat items and sides, but I'd have to give Abbey's 3.5 stars based on the tasty meal, friendly and enthusiastic young lady with glasses who took our order, small dining area, a really slow bus lady, and them running out of meat by 6pm. Despite some opportunities, I definitely would visit again, but not during a busy day like Father's Day. Abbey's Real Texas BBQ is located in the Miramar San Diego area not too far from the Marine Corps Air Station base. You can utilize the 805 or 15 freeways exiting off of Miramar Road and heading east from the 805 and west from the 15. There is plenty of parking in front of the outdoor strip mall or in the back. Abbey's shares the same spatial area as Denny's, Better Buzz, Philadelphia Sandwich Co., Sotos Mexican Food, and Pho Ha Noi. As you enter the restaurant, I liked the feeling that I was going to dine on some BBQ in what looked like a nondescript small town joint with wooden picnic benches, distressed wood square tables with wood/metal chairs, rattan ceiling fans, cattle skulls and steer horns mounted on their walls, and colorful murals depicting all things meat. There were several televisions to catch World Cup games. For how popular this BBQ joint is, it's a small space. We had to wait until tables opened up that would accommodate our party of nine. The young lady with glasses behind the register provided enhusiastic and friendly customer service. Part of the lower rating was that we had to bus our own table and clean it. I had asked the young lady behind the Pick Up Food sign to have someone bus our table. The lady busser responsible did not work with a sense of urgency. BBQ restaurants do sell out, but the restaurant had to post a sign saying they ran out of food. I'm a meat eater and have dined at several BBQ establishments. Since it was Father's Day, I got to plan where we were celebrating, so I chose Abbey's and was looking forward to trying them out for the first time. I'm blessed and privileged that God bestowed upon me the gift of Fatherhood, so I was going to strive for meat sweats by enjoying the BBQ Abbey's had to offer. After perusing their menu, my eyes gravitated to their Sampler Plates and I chose the Number 1, which comes with beef brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken, cornbread or Texas toast, and two sides. For my sides, I selected mac & cheese and potato salad. The Number 1 cost $37.99, which was a reasonable price for how much food was served. Enough so that I brought leftovers home for another meal. The beef brisket and pork ribs were the standouts for me. They were tender, hearty, satisfying, tasty, and fulfilling. The pulled pork was okay and the chicken could have been more seasoned and more moist. I enjoyed the mac & cheese and potato salad as they both were creamy, appetizing, and both complemented the protein on this dish. Choose the corn bread over the toast because the one bite I had of my wife's piece made me regret picking the Texas toast. It was a blessing of a Father's Day celebrating with my family and in-laws at Abbey's Real Texas BBQ because I got to enjoy a meal at a place I'd been wanting to try. Despite some negatives, I'd visit again to try their other menu items.

Plenty of parking. Nice Texas feel when you walk in. The gentlemen at the counter was very hospitable and excited that it was my first time. He recommended that I get the number 1 sampler. It was def a lot of food I got Mac salad, Mac N cheese, brisket, pulled pork, some rib. It was delicious. I wish it was a bit more Smokey but def got the texture down on all the meats! I'd come back

This place hit the spot. The cashier asked us if it was our first time. She welcomed us and walked us through the menu. She suggested the Sampler Plate #1 ($37.99). It usually feeds two adults and 1 kid. It comes with beef brisket, pulled pork, 2 pieces of pork ribs, chicken, a choice of 2 sides, and a choice of toast or cornbread. We decided on the onion rings and Cesar salad. We decided on the cornbread. I'm not usually fond of cornbread, but this one had a hint of sweetness. My wife asked for sauce on the side. Next time, we will get the sauce on top and ask for more on the side. The brisket is what they are known for. It lived up to the hype. It was tender and had a good flavor on its own. Unfortunately, the ribs were not tender enough for my son, who wears braces. The pulled pork and chicken both thumbs up. My other son got the smash burger ($16.99). It was okay for him since it kept slipping out of its bun. The taste was there, and maybe next time we will get the sauce on the side. You serve yourself. You order in the front and pick up at the front. You get your own drinks. Wish we knew it was practically serve yourself. We tipped as though we were going to get served. They did take away our items. Seat yourself. There are long benches and tables. It's like a ranch-type feel inside. * 10 percent military discount * * Free parking Overall, a great place to satisfy your Bar-B-Q craving. We will be back.

It's National Burger Day so I was in a mood for a great burger so I googled where I could get a juicy burger and Abbey's Real Texas BBQ came up. I have had them before so today was a first for their burger! ...it was delicious! It was a double patty with onions and cheese. Had BBQ Sauce on the side. I added the BBQ Sauce to the burger which made it more scrumptious. It came with fries which you can choose between Salt, Cajun or Lemon Pepper fries. I chose the Cajun Fries. They were tasty as well. I also got the brisket tacos. 3 for me and 3 for my husband. Ohh my goodness, these were so good! They were flavorful and super yummy. They were drenched in sauce, but the sauce was really tasty. I ordered to go, but the restaurant was busy. It had a lot of customers inside which tells me the food is good. It had a dark vibe, but the aroma of the BBQ is what catches your attention. The two guys at the counter were really nice. My order was ready as soon as I approached the counter. I definitely need to go back to have a dine in experience soon!

Ordered through Uber eats Supposed to be 3 for $15. Had a 2 for 1 special. You pick your meat. For that price it was amazing. Tacos were well seasoned and you get a side of bbq sauce to boot. Cant say about the service or ambiance since i didnt eat there. Id order that again though. Solid food and a great price.

Their cornbread is so delicious! The sampler was also a perfect amount for 2 people. The workers here are very friendly and helpful, and I love the vibes here! 10/10!

Abbey's Real Texas BBQ is so good! We live in LA and will drive down just to have their Brisket! It's so tender. Their corn bread is to die for! We bought 10 pc just to take home The servers are amazing and friendly! We will continue to make the 1.5 hour trip to this location when we want Bbq!

Restaurant employees: RJ & Ava are pretty awesome!! RJ says that he initially was a customer here and loved their product so much that he became an employee soon after. I would say that's a pretty good testament as to how amazing this food should be! My family and I called ahead before coming to the restaurant just shy of closing time on a Friday evening. Ava was the associate that we spoke with, before coming to the restaurant shortly before closing time. She was great and let us know that while some items were not available any longer today, there was still plenty of meat available to be shared. Some of the things that they were out of included items like their onion rings, seasoned yellow rice, and I can't remember the third one. But either way, they still seem to have a lot of food available. I love the decor here, very grungy sort of garage feeling. It's fun is what it really is. I feel like all that was missing was the sawdust. I like that the graphics along the wall stress the fact that this is a family owned and operated business. Their menu is quite extensive. It took me a good while to read through it all and even then I didn't make it to the end by the time we ordered. As a family of three, we ordered quite a bit! What we ordered 3 cornbread 2 Texas toast 1 corn on the cob 1 Cole slaw 1 Mac n cheese 1 lemon pepper fries Pulled pork Brisket 1 full slab Pork ribs 1/4 chicken Mac n cheese: maybe a little bit of paprika on top, very cheesy, I would've personally appreciated a slightly more baked crispy top. It also seems like their cheese was only one type of cheese, not so much of a rue mixture. Lemon pepper fries: I love the amount of seasoning that is on the fries and I love how crispy they are Slaw: Mayo based, not super juicy, good flavor w the sliced green onions in there Texas toast: lightly crispy on the inside and super soft and spongy on the inside. Brisket: i am THRILLED with this meat choice for sure!!!! (You've gotta ask for the fatty brisket!) For me, the brisket has a really good smoke ring, but unfortunately, for my taste, the outside ring is a bit too salty. But pls realize, there is a huge difference between something being too salty and it not having a good flavor. This flavor is phenomenal. The meat is so soooooo tender. You do not need teeth to chew it. This is why I just wish that they had their season yellow rice available. I know my husband felt the same. Pulled pork: definitely get this with the sauce on it and pile it onto some toast. That'll make for a great meal. Chicken: the breast meat was delicious, tender and had a very nice mild smoke flavor to it. Pork ribs: my lil monster loved the ribs. She kept remarking about how tender it was, and how juicy and flavorful the meat was. She has only taken a really huge liking to ribs more recently. She said this was so good and that she is glad to say that this might be her favorite ribs and brisket spot so far. She said she would like to come here more often. It is too bad that this a few hours away from home for us Thank you so much to everyone who made this visit so delicious!! BTW, their cornbread is amazing. It's more cake like than it is grainy like some of the more rustic styles that I've had. FANTASTIC Update: 05/30/2026 I had to come back and do it twice!!! My Abbey's bbq vocabulary now consists of the following (LOL) Eddie = coleslaw Ava = yellow seasoned rice RJ = fatty brisket w combo 1 In order to get the full experience, we came back again. This time, we came here early enough to get some of the yellow seasoned rice. And of course, after my reviews, raving about their cornbread and how I devoured that coleslaw. you know I had to get more... at least five or six pieces. I'm not sure. Either way, they were devoured. Ava, Eddie & RJ are absolutely phenomenal employees. They're so friendly and we feel, especially now, that we can trust their taste buds!! Not only are they super friendly, but they are very tactful in their delivery and in their efforts to try and up sell in the dessert department. We have not had the pleasure of ordering any dessert yet, but it always sounds so good. And they almost always get us. Haha! I wish we were not driving home tomorrow, but I would very much like to come back here again as soon as possible. Y'all have a great thing going on here. Pls don't change it up. This whole 2-day experience has been amazing.

    CRAZY SANDWICH!!

The most wicked sandwich I ever seen!! I went to the bathroom and next thing I know I saw this thing, so it was only right that I took it down. The chicken wings go dummy. The owners are really chill, which makes the place feel welcoming.

    Tacos. Soooo juicy

I am from Texas and I was quite impressed with the food here. Although the portions were slightly smaller than the Texas style portions, the taste made up for it. So juicy, tender, and hot made to order. I actually picked this up from the restaurant, everyone seemed super friendly. The ambiance is your go to bbq spot for any occasion.

Came here for dinner on Saturday to watch the game. We got the sampler platters. I was surprised the chicken was very moist and can't wait to go back and order more. I enjoyed the brisket and pork ribs as well but my favorite was definitely the chicken. The corn bread was sweet and wished they gave me a bigger piece but that's just me being greedy. I got the salad and rice and beans for my sides. The banana pudding was tasty. When you come in all you smell is bbq and there are plenty of seats. Plenty of parking as well. The staff is so friendly and very attentive.

Service was excellent. Place was very clean and Eddie at the register was very professional and friendly. The food did take a while to come out... it was a Saturday and they were a little busy. You can smell the "smoke" from the parking lot... draws you into the building. The place is great for small to large groups. Large dining area with small tables or large shared picnic tables. Music is playing and there is just a fun buzz to the place. I ordered the No1 Sampler (see menu - 2 slices of Brisket, Chicken breast w/wing, pulled pork, 2 pork-ribs) with Cornbread instead of Toast. and Corn-on-the-Cobb and BBQ Beans as my sides. The brisket tasted good but was a little over and didn't fall apart without some knife support. The cornbread was a little sweeter than I like (tasted like a soft muffin). Overall it was great and I would recommend trying it. ** It was a little pricey, without a drink and plus tip/tax, my No1 Sample Platter was $47 (that included a very appreciative veteran discount).

Beautiful, hilarious, cool without trying, and somehow always wearing the most fire shoes in the building. She's the kind of bartender that turns "let's grab one drink" into "well damn, now we live here." Every cocktail was perfect, every recommendation hit, and her energy honestly makes the whole place. Protect Ria at all costs because that girl is a whole vibe. I Wish her all The health and the wealth and if yall don't give this woman a BONUS and a raise- i'm going on strike ;)

There must have been at least a dozen kids or more. I told my 7 year old son not to bring balls but of course other kids did. If you park in the back there is no doubt your car will get hit. But it's softballs, not baseballs. Service is legit. Fast, friendly. They're like get in, order, get out. But we stayed for probably an hour and a half. The live music was great, not too loud. I am sad to confess the food here is not as legit as I figured based on being a San Diego local and a big DDD watcher. It probably depends on which day you come, but on Thursday, the brisket was so average. Del's in Del Cerro is better. Smoky and the Brisket is better. I had my brisket served with that nacho cheese and relish, not nearly as great as I thought it would be based on DDD. I also don't drink anymore, but if I were to have had 2-3 beers + this dinner + the enviornment I would have loved it. My son gave a huge thumbs up to his burger, daughter liked her food. If you want an experience, have time you need to kill and have kids, it's a solid spot, but in no way is this a destination if you live west of the 15. Stick to classic spots.
