Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The property is large and fun to wander around. The location is great because you are close to Columbus and to nearby hiking and outdoor recreational areas.

Whistlestop is located at the end of a dirt road (literally off the beaten trail), so don't be too worried if you wonder if you're going the right way--keep going back the road and it's just over an old rail line. The B&B is the basement of an old farm house and the room is spacious. As Brian mentioned, the room had a queen size bed, couch, working fireplace, pool table, kitchenette, and private bath. The owners, Sherry and Mike, were a delightful couple and we had a chance to peak into their beautifully renovated kitchen and meet their lovable boxer, Lucy. Tons of snacks to pick from, but easily the best were the homemade sticky buns and chocolate chip cookies. Sherry stocked the fridge and pantry with breakfast items for the next day (yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, breakfast bowls). Brian enjoyed a couple rounds of pool while I feasted on several hours of HGTV's "Property Brothers" on the biggest flat-screen TV I've seen in someone's house (60-inch?). The bed was cozy, covered with beautiful colored linens, and I think if you wanted to leave the blinds open, you could wake to a beautiful sunrise amongst the nearby trees. I woke up early Sunday morning to do a bit of reading and enjoy a cup of tea by the fireplace. Perfection. Since we were there in late March, we didn't get to enjoy this amenity, but there is a fire pit so you can make some s'mores (yes, they provide all the fixings for that too). I need to ask Brian when we can go again...it was a great weekend to unplug and just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Columbus. (although, they have free Wifi, just in case you need it :) )

A Beautiful Setting, but a Disappointing Experience I first…read morediscovered the Geodomes at Inn & Spa Cedar Springs while searching online for unique places to stay in Hocking Hills, Ohio. The domes were a little more expensive than what we would normally spend for a couple of nights, but we decided to treat ourselves to a special experience. Unfortunately, our stay got off to a very difficult start. After arriving, we checked in, booked our two complimentary breakfasts, unloaded our vehicle, and settled into the dome. The accommodations themselves are nicely designed. The dome is a good size, with a small kitchen area and a bathroom with a private toilet and shower. There is no sink in the kitchen area, but overall, the space is comfortable and the large windows provide a beautiful view of the surrounding forest. The problem occurred almost immediately after we arrived. My wife went into the bathroom, and when she attempted to leave, the door would not open. The latch was catching on the frame and would not release. I am a window and door contractor with 25 years of experience, so I spent approximately 20 minutes trying to get the door open. Unfortunately, because I did not have tools with me and the door was installed so tightly, I was unable to release it. I went to the front desk for assistance and was told that the maintenance person had already left but that they would try to get him back. Approximately 15 minutes later, he returned, and we went to the dome together. He initially tried to slide a credit card between the door and frame for several minutes. I suggested removing the handle set and asked for a Phillips screwdriver. Unfortunately, the tool kit he had brought contained a socket set rather than a screwdriver. He had to return to his truck and came back with a small jeweler's screwdriver set, which was not suitable for the job. He then left again to find another screwdriver. While he was gone, I continued trying to release the latch using the foil cutter from a wine corkscrew. When he returned several minutes later, I was finally able to release the latch by applying upward pressure to the door while manipulating the latch with the foil cutter. My wife was trapped inside the bathroom for just over an hour. Once we got the door open, I suggested removing the handle set so the problem would not happen again during our stay. The maintenance person agreed, and the handle was removed. I want to be clear that I appreciated the effort made by the individual who came to help us. We later learned that he was actually the lawn care facilitator rather than a dedicated maintenance employee. He did what he could with the tools available to him. However, the fact that a guest was trapped inside a bathroom for more than an hour due to a defective door is a serious safety concern. I contacted management the following morning and was told that the guest relations manager would call me. I eventually received the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. We discussed what happened, but the manager appeared to believe that the entire incident had lasted only about 15 minutes. I corrected several details regarding the timeline and explained exactly what had occurred. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the conversation, management offered no accommodation, discount, or other gesture acknowledging the inconvenience and potential safety issue. Even a simple offer of a couple of drinks at the bar would have gone a long way toward demonstrating that they valued our experience. Instead, the response left us feeling that the financial aspect of the stay was more important than customer satisfaction. There were a few other things worth mentioning. The water system in the dome uses naturally hard, untreated water, and the water has a noticeable sulfur smell when running. The odor can permeate the dome, so bringing an air freshener may be helpful. The on-site restaurant, however, was a positive part of our experience. The food was very good, and the service was excellent. The grounds are also well maintained. One additional concern is that the path lighting leading to the domes was not functioning during our stay. At night, this meant walking to and from the domes in essentially complete darkness, which is another issue that should be addressed from a safety standpoint. Overall, the Geodomes themselves are attractive, comfortable, and located in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by the initial incident and, more importantly, by how management handled it afterward. Things can go wrong at any property. What matters is how management responds when they do. In our case, we were hoping for some acknowledgment that what happened was unacceptable and a small gesture to show that our safety and satisfaction mattered. That did not happen. We weren't welcome at the pub or to make a dinner reservation. Then I asked the assistant what options were around in the area and she played dumb. It felt like phony, unprofessional and not helpful. This place should be open to the public and strive to have better customer service and be a bit more welcoming. I recommend staying at Amongst the Trees, instead or cut above cabins.

I brought my husband for his birthday weekend, and we had such a fun, relaxing time surrounded by the peaceful scenery. We were greeted with beautiful celtic music playing as we entered our accommodations. All the areas of the cottage were clean and inviting, and we couldn't wait to unwind in front of the gas fireplace after unloading our belongings. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub- surrounded by vibrant hues of red and orange leaves glowing in the sunlight. Wrapped in the provided robes, we sipped wine in front of the large picture window in the living room, soaking in even more of fall's beauty. On the night of his birthday, we enjoyed a six course dinner that ended with the whole dining room singing him "Happy Birthday", which made him incredibly happy. Afterward, we took flashlights and went on a night walk on one of the trails behind the cottages. Our two night stay was magical. The effort that goes into making Glenlaurel a dedication to its Scottish roots was evident in every detail of our stay and we truly enjoyed immersing ourselves in the experience.

We stayed in Room 2 on the second floor, very handsomely appointed in aqua and coffee tones, with silver accents. The room was lovely and very comfortable, both the bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I enjoyed reading a book in the chair by the window. The backyard was another highlight. There is a small deck, a fireplace, an English-style walking garden, and a main seating area with candles and comfortable camp chairs. In warm weather, it's perfect either for unwinding or for extending a gathering at the end of the day. Apparently the proprietor brings food in the morning? I was not awake in time to witness this; perhaps it is the breakfast fairy. In any case, the spread was noteworthy: besides the drinks, snacks, yogurt, fruit, and cereal available around the clock, there were uncooked eggs, miniature bagels, coffee cake or banana bread, and a variety of seasonal fruit. No matter how heterogeneous your group, everyone will find something to satisfy him- or herself. Sometimes it's the little things--such as the rubber duck in the shower stall, the small fish tank on the kitchen counter, and the soft jazz CD playing in the living room on our arrival. There was a basket of highly watchable DVD movies and a shelf of local-interest books. But the important things stand out too: the entire place was immaculate and the proprietors seem to take good care of both the property and the guests. This is a very strong 4.5. Some of our housemates were staying there for the third time, and I would not hesitate to return with them next time.

In the morning, they put out a fresh pastry (different and delicious each day!), toast, beautiful fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs. The room had a hair dryer, bar soap, makeup wipes, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. We also had a smart tv so I could log into my own Hulu account. There is a pretty park and lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance, including a major grocery store. Could not have imagined a better place...I wish I lived there!

As soon as we found out, my wife called and was told that it was no problem, that there is a waiting list, and once it is cancelled, we would get a refund. We would be charged a $35 fee, though. Also snapped "it is clearly written in the confirmation" several times and completely ignored the question of someone previously giving us false information. The excuse was "I am a small business and need to survive"... but rings very hollow because there is no doubt it was re-rented, in fact, she is double dipping and making twice the money. Nice little racket, if you ask me. While I did miss the holiday clause in the confirmation (which was made 35 days before the arrival date, so not much time to cancel), the fact that we were told we were getting a refund is a huge problem. If we were told the truth, we would have made arrangements to at least partially attend. And if this is the way they treat customers, I am wondering if I didn't dodge a bullet by not going. Needless to say, I will never patronize this business.

I'd recommend just paying a little bit extra to stay either in Athens or at one of the resorts closer to Hocking Hills.

I love everything on the table! They offer buffet style homemade breakfast: the scramble egg was my favorite, I love when there's no milk, just egggggggyummmm! BUT!
