I love a 5K that lets you pick up your registration packet early - big help here to avoid massive lines on site. The weather was perfect for today and the course was easily mapped out so you always knew your way. There were 12 obstacles which really broke up the running. I had several favorites although really, all the obstacles were fun! The wrecking ball is hilarious just to sit back and watch. For this you had to run across a tube and make it to the platform as two giant swinging dodgeball looking balls were hovering around you. Out of the 8 of us... 1 made it across haha. But it felt good falling into the water below. And the emcees/DJs were hilarious! Very active, keeping the energy up and throwing out funny commentary - the guy at the wrecking ball event was only in shades and a 'tuxspeedo' - love it!! Other events included "gorilla bars" over the foam pit, tightrope, two separate slip n slide obstacles, a giant moon bounce and more. Best part is finishing by climbing up a 40 feet high slide (it looked 40 feet... I may be off by a bit) and launching yourself down. Great race to run with friends and I am IN for next year! They had a bunch of teenagers and some adults doing pickup and they had it down pat. Way to go. 5/5 Bag check: Easy and well run. 5/5 Pre-starting line activities: There was a foam machine you could play around with and take pictures. Other than that, not much else. 3.5/5 Start line: They had music and a DJ/emcee who was pretty good. We were the last group to go out at the 11:00 wave, so there weren't a lot of us. It was still fun, though. 4/5 Obstacles (I can't remember the order, so these are out of order somewhat) Gorilla Bars: Basically just monkey bars on an inflatable. They're not too hard if you have good upper body strength. 3/5 Sweeper: Someone got stuck on the inflatable part so there was a long delay. Otherwise very easy. Just walk across. 3/5 Wrecking Balls: We were in the middle. Time it right and you're across pretty easily. Time it wrong...you're in the drink. They had a good emcee for this one. 4/5 Jump Balls: Basically really small Wipeout balls that don't have water. Still funny to watch your friends faceplant on, though. 3.5/5 Cool Runnings: Lots of fun. It's a water slide with an inner tube. You get very wet on this one. My dad lost his glasses at the end and the volunteers were great with helping to find them. They also let us do it multiple times (we did it three times). 5/5 Moon Bounce: Pretty standard moon bounce. Big, but standard. 3.5/5 Tarzan Swing: I wish this ended in water or foam. Just hold on for a second or two and you're across. 3/5 Foam of Fury: A huge slip-n-slide with foam. Lots of fun and you end up soaked in foam. 4.5/5 The Drop: A big non-water slide. Fun but not the best. 4/5 Get it Up (And Over): Climb over a wall and end up on a platform. They have different sized walls depending on the challenge you want. I picked the middle size and it was really easy. 3/5 Tire Mile: Really? They basically just took tires and put them down. No creativity. Boring. 2/5 Worlds Largest Waterslide: Fun and wet! I'm not complaining about a huge slide! 5/5 The volunteers were excellent and the race was well done. It could have used some more music on the course though. I'm looking at the Foam 5K for a bit more of a challenge next year, but ROC was fun and I'd do it again.

My experience was similar to those who posted previously. I expected a little more organization and…read moremore intensity, but no such luck. Since the three of us traveled in from other States, it was a touch disappointing. The ride there wasn't great since it's a bit remote. There was serious traffic getting in and out of the lot. Fortunately, we cabbed it and saved ourselves the trouble. Still, get there early to avoid some of the hassle. My group signed up for an early time, thank goodness. Still, the lines were a mess, even at 8:30 in the morning. Things weren't well marked and the staff was overwhelmed. It seemed like the lines never died down. The lines to check-in and to reclaim our bags took just as long as the initial line. There was zero enforcement, so we dealt with line-jumpers constantly. That was only tolerable because we watched the majority of said impatient people get sent away when they reached the front because they had crashed the wrong line. Grow up, folks - we all have to wait. Our wave went off right on time and it was nicely spaced. It didn't feel like you were running on top of everyone else. There was little shade to be had the first mile or so, and it felt like forever before we saw the first obstacle. I expected more obstacles for some reason. There were a few extended jogs between things - I'd have preferred more to do along the way. Most of the obstacles were easy to navigate, though my lack of height did me zero favors on a few of them. Unfortunately, the end was my least favorite part. Jumping the fire was near, but the mud pit was awful. It was packed with people, many of them stuck and panicking in the thick, red clay. I managed to get around people who helped others out, but we were getting yelled at by the next wave trying to overtake us. Contrary to what they seemed to believe, everyone was going as fast as possible. The clay was just too thick and oppressive. Some folks snuck out the side. I was lucky enough to have someone help pull me over the ledge at the end. Whew. Showering off didn't really happen, either. There wasn't a decent drainage system and the only way out was the way you walked in. The water pressure from the hoses was inconsistent and they took to spraying us down with the trucks at one point. There was no real way to get all the mud off, so my group gave up and went in search of towels instead. Oh, and we completely clogged the tub at the hotel when we tried to rinse our clothing. Yuck! The after party was worth the madness. There was plenty of quality beer and food to be had, and I was shocked that the prices weren't higher. The burgers were good, and I tore thru a tender turkey leg like no one's business. The lack of shade was a bummer in that we had to drink our beer faster, but we managed. They kept music pumping as well, so we stuck around well into the late afternoon. Not sure I'd travel there again, but another Warrior Dash might be in my future. Carpool, show up early, and stay for the beer!

While getting down and dirty on the outside, you'll feel warm and fuzzy on the inside because this event helps raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I felt that this event was located in a great place, and the atmosphere was just amazing. Sure, you'll drive out kinda towards the middle of no where, but that's where all the fun begins. They have a large area for parking (which is great because there are around 300 warriors in each wave time), tents with noticeable flags for you to spot what is located there, and a rockin stage for the band. The course was planned out pretty well. My friends and I found ourselves running out in the sun for the first part, but then afterwards, we found ourselves conquering most of the course in the shady trees. Nice! The nice thing about after you get muddy from doing the course, there was a hosing truck for you to wash off. It's not an individual shower, but more of a fight to the water kind of situation. If you're a small person, you can easily squeeze your way to the front of crowd and hope the person hosing shoots the water your way. The food was great here. They had a lovely selection, but I didn't notice what other food there was because I was mainly drooling over the turkey leg. A little salty, but still delicious!!! When you're a warrior, you get a free beer after the race, so I got myself a Miller Lite. Even if you're a spectator cheering on your homies, you can still buy beer, but remember to get tickets first before going in a long line and finding out afterwards! Don't worry, that didn't happen to me, but I thought I'd put the warning out there. All in all, a GREAT event!!!

We were supposed to be in Phoenix this week, but given the state of our country right now, that…read morewasn't possible. When we heard the Outlaws would be in Charlotte, we decided to hit that up and get some much needed time away. Describing our experience in one word - HORRIBLE! The dust was so bad that you couldn't see anything. We thought maybe after Friday night, they would do something to make things better for Saturday. No such luck. It was worse, and it was hard to get worse than Friday. The dust was so bad that you couldn't see the person standing beside you. You couldn't see one car on the track. As a matter of fact, you couldn't even see the race on the big screens either because the dust drowned out the lens on the camera....all you could see were shadows and dust. Absolutely the worst place I've ever been to watch a dirt track race. I don't know how the drivers were even able to see where they were going! Needless to say, I don't think we will be going back to this track any time soon. The NASCAR track is awesome....dirt track...no comparison! Two stars was pushing it...only gave that because we like the area. Very disappointed.

Honestly I am not a nascar fan at all. Really I don't watch any sports. But put me at the game or…read morerace and it's a different story. This dirt track is actually the big times. And this event was the championships. Stock car racing is something everyone should experience, if you like anything that goes fast. Here it's byob which is awesome. Saves money so you don't have to pay vending prices. Bring snacks, drinks, beer, blankets to sit on (bc it is a dirt track and the seats are, well dirty lol). Usually I don't wear anything nice to a dirt track but here it wasn't so bad. Also it's quick, meaning if you have ever been to Carolina speedway it's a lot different. Organized and quick to start each race. This time I had a giant corn dog and it was awesome. I will be back here for sure.

On a visit to the Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area to visit all of the NASCAR Team…read moreGarages/Headquarters, Trackhouse Racing was our first stop. We visited the site this past summer, on a Thursday afternoon in July. It was not busy, and I believe we were the only people there during our visit. The building is located in a quiet area in Concord, and there is plenty of private parking just steps away from the front doors. It was easy to figure out we were in the right spot with the signage on the building. Everything to see here is located in the lobby of the building. There is no access to anywhere else besides the lobby, nor were there public restrooms. In the rear, there were a few couches to sit and view the garage area. The review is further broken down into categories below: Displays/Museums/Historical Items - 3/5 Rating Overall, the amount of displays and historical items here was not overwhelming, nor very plentiful. There were a few exciting items, such as the Hail Melon Car and Wall from Martinsville, along with several race win trophies. The graphics of the drivers along the walls were interesting and modern, but since this area is confined to just the lobby, you will be able to see everything in a short amount of time. Team Store - 4/5 Rating This store was not the largest you will see at a NASCAR Headquarters. There were just a couple of racks and a wall full of merchandise in the back right corner. There were also select sale items. The selection was good - plenty of options for each Cup Driver, in addition to Moto GP Team items. There was a limited stock of sheet metal as well. Garage Access - 2/5 Rating In the back of the lobby, there is a large viewing window to look into the garage area. As stated previously, there is no access to the facility beyond the lobby area. So, though the garage is visible with a large area to view, it is all at the ground level. It seemed like the crews had already left for the race that weekend when we were there, but it was cool to at least see this area. Overall Access - 2/5 Rating Everything that is at Trackhouse is nice and new. There is a good selection of museum-type items and a viewing area for the garage. However, it is extremely limited to the lobby. There is no overhead viewing like with other teams. It almost seems like the fan experience here was a slight afterthought, as opposed to having a fan experience that gives access to different aspects of the team. It would be nice if they could open up more of the facility in the future. Extras - 1/5 Rating A large part of the experience in visiting these teams is collecting the Hero Cards for different drivers. A lot of times, these cards are just on a magazine rack-type storage and they are free to take. You have to specifically ask for them from the receptionist in the lobby here. There are also a very limited selection die casts at this spot. They only had 1:24 size, and the selection of those was extremely limited. Beyond what was discussed above, there were not any "extras" that would enhance the fan experience, compared to other teams' headquarters. Overall, Trackhouse was not a bad spot to start our multi-day tour of all of the NASCAR Garages. The fan experience here is limited, and it will not take you more than 15 minutes to see all there is to offer. However, it is a modern building with nice displays of both the race trophies and graphics for the drivers. Hope that they expand and build on the fan experience as time goes on.

I did the "The Shootout" Racing Experience on April 14, 2013. The experience was great and the…read moreinstructors/spotter were very knowledgeable. I had a great experience at the track. However, the customer service (before and after) is terrible. Like the previous review by K.S. states, calls and emails go unanswered and unreturned. I purchased the video of my experience and was told, in person and writing, that it would be sent in 2-3 weeks. After 6 weeks and no video or phone call from RWR, I called was informed it would be another 3-4 weeks. This is a poor way to run a business. If I showed up to the racing experience 8 weeks late, I would be turned away. Why should a business be any different?

So, the 5 minutes of the ride along was good, but everything else was horrible. Scheduled for 2:30…read moreon Friday. Wound up staying for 2.5 hours and watched a total of 6 people do their ride alongs - still had 20 more numbers to go before they were to get to me. No communication. No leadership. Few signs. The gals in the trailer "headquarters" were nice, but clueless. Got rescheduled for Saturday morning at 9:30 - first timeslot - and told to come early because they could start at 9:00. After 3 more hours of waiting around, I finally got my 5 minutes of fun. Again, no organization or communication. I wasted a half day of vacation to go stand around while watching the chaos and disorganization. Then I had to return to stand around for another half a day. Everyone participating was frustrated both days. They do have deals on Groupon etc., and now I know why they have to offer those. I don't think I'd do it again, no matter how cheap OR even free for that matter! My time is worth more than that. Very disappointed in the way no one seemed to care that we were standing there for hours on end. Spend the extra money and go to a worthwhile organization. Just read the reviews about the RWRE at all the tracks. I think the statistics speak for themselves.

Of…read morecourse it's not an Intamin but made by Mack but it just seemed so much like the Carowinds version of Maverick. Of course it's a horse, er, a snake of a different color. And when I say "ruined" I just mean brought down from my lofty 5 stars wish-I-could-give-it-6 expectations to a still very solid 4 star piece of thrill ride machinery. The launches aren't astronaut training intense but they're still fun. Inversions are the main thing here and Copperhead Strike does this odd thing where it barely gets over the uphill on the loops, slowly down and then nearly stalling out at the top leaving you hanging there. The hangtime is an interesting sensation and the restraints are fortunately really easy on the body but I just really prefer rocketing through everything. This ride is so much about hangtime that it turns you upside down with a slow mo roll they call the Jo Jo roll. I'd call it the No No Roll as it's in no way thrilling but just kind of annoying. It's like they want to know who's ignoring the signs saying no unsecured items and can go scoop up cellphones, change and whatever else from that spot and pocket it instead of taking it to lost and found. Fortunately there's a shed around the corner from there with more the rustic hillbilly theming of this ride and a pretty decent launch to begin the ride in earnest. CS is buttery smooth and has a couple floater airtime hills but as I said is more about the Upside Down than Stranger Things. I think I would have actually liked a theme like that better as stuff like the misspelled spray painted words warning of danger got pretty tiresome. I get it. They're hillbillies with ninth grade educations - haha, I'm slapping my knees over the sheer hilarity of that. The actual Copperhead Strike sign is super dope, though, complete with the fierce snake head protruding out that you'd wanna see. It kinda looks like redneck steampunk or something. I rode Copperhead Strike twice and could have gone for more but the trains are low capacity compared to the other elite coasters here, Thunder Striker, Afterburn and Fury 325. Copperhead Strike was a longer wait than Fury and I couldn't get enough of Fury so why wait longer for this? These top four coasters are all the ones to get a least a lap on so I'm glad I got to ride the snake as Jim Carrey would say.

The line I wish was more better laid out as sometimes people hop over the rails and cut people. I wish they had the chain instead of the full metal of the zip zag. One thing is you have to get a locker for the bag or anything loose. One thing to note in the morning, the ride does run slower and more towards the afternoon it runs faster. The ride itself is fun, but if you hate inversions this ride is not for you. Do not ride this ride on a full stomach as the restraint can get tight on the stomach. I did enjoy this ride and my 3rd favorite on the park.
