Great dirt track racing for some off road trucks by TORC and SST. Hope to visit again.

Even though it was after Christmas, it was still an awesome experience. I truly wish more people knew about because it is so worth the time the money. It's the largest Christmas expedition on the East Coast and we've had great memories both times. This is our second year going and we enjoyed our time this year more than the first. The first part is you driving in your car as you see all of the super cool light fixtures while listening to Christmas music that corresponds to the lights. The kids (and us), we're in love with the different themes that we saw along the way. Very vibrant and bold colors that really don't do it justice through a camera lens. It's something you truly do have to see in person to get the full picture. There's also a movie playing on the Jumbotron that you can listen to while you're riding around or you can park and watch the movie with your family. This year we did the VIP skip line for $96. I will say that it seems as if in the VIP there wasn't as many light fixtures while riding in the car as there was in previous years. I'm not sure if we seen less exhibits because our route was shorter. That would be our only complaint. You do pay by a car/ van so I would say if you could take as many people with you in one vehicle. Once you get to the halfway point there, there's an area where you can park and then you can get out. Here is part two where you go to all of the different vendors that are inside the heated area. There's so much to do. You can take pictures with Santa. You can get your character made until cartoon portrait . There's free events where kids can make Christmas ornaments win prizes color take pictures with the themed Christmas tree trees (that were so so cute by the way.) They had a bar for the adults and hot chocolate and popcorn for the kids. When you go outside of the tent, there's part 3, a world with outdoor activities. There is an area for Christmas carols tubing that had artificial snow. Theres bonfires with s'mores. Ann area with a bunch of food trucks to choose from. There's hundreds of photo opportunities where there are huge, beautiful light fixtures that you can walk and see along the track. It's literally something for the entire family to enjoy or even a date night if there's something that you would like to do. This is something that my family will continue to do in the years to come.

Typically we avoid holiday crowds (that's to keep the season merry, ya know?), & I'd heard from other friends that the crowds this year were excessive. However, I would recommend going to this on a weekday that isn't too busy or too close to Thanksgiving or Christmas. Was a unique and fun way to hang in the car celebrating yuletide while watching artistry of lights and music with friends. Was exciting for the men in the car to know we were driving on the actual speedway too. Glad our driver didn't take us up on to 'high bank' of the roads as he promised to do earlier. Know that you won't be able to hop out of your car to take pics or use the bathroom there, and there is no swag to purchase. (Would have loved that option as a unique gift for friends.) Note: If you go, you're supposed to turn your head lights off so they don't detract from the light show. Was a bummer when folks kept theirs on, because the headlights would sometimes be blinding! Also note: If you go during a wknd- which is more expensive- there is a place for kids to go (& I'm guessing you can THEN get out of your car). They also usually show a Christmas-themed movie on those nights...not sure how exactly that works, but sounded fun.

However, once you find the arena, parking in the West Deck Parking Lot is plentiful and free (happy dance). Once you find parking, please note there will be stairs to climb to get to the entrance. In our case it was four flights, and a considerable walk uphill to the entrance. On a chilly fall day this wasn't the best for my mom who was with us. Once inside, the arena is well lit with bold signs marking the seat sections. It is clean and the seats are comfortable and easy to find. On the day I went, there were no concession stands open and many of the gates were closed. Folks were lined up at the lone vending machine station, and there were cones directing the crowd flow. It had an after hours sort of vibe to it. As if they were not offering the full "Halton" Arena Experience. Having said that, I didn't get to see this venue for all it's probably worth, but it was fine for seeing my nephew's showcase. Finally, I didn't require the use of their restrooms facilities, so I can't comment on how the bathrooms are kept. So as Forrest Gump used to say, "that's all I have to say about that."

On a visit to the Charlotte/Kannapolis/Concord area to visit all of the NASCAR Team…read moreGarages/Headquarters, Hendricks Motorsports was our third stop. We visited the Hendrick campus this past summer, on a Thursday afternoon in July. It was not super busy, but there were a few other groups in the museum and store while we were there. The campus is located in Concord, and there is plenty of private parking just steps away from the front doors of the museum and gift shop. It was easy to figure out we were in the right spot with the ample signage around the property. The museum and gift shop are essentially one and the same - you walk into the lobby of the building, and the museum is mostly around the perimeter of the space, while the gift shop area is in the center. The team garages are located in another building on the property. We had positive interactions with all of the staff, and especially with the woman who works reception at in the building with the team garages (her name escapes me, but she was so wonderful!). The review is further broken down into categories below: Displays/Museums/Historical Items - 4/5 Rating The downright history, and all of the cars to see at Hendrick is unmatched. There is a lot to take in regarding the history and variety. Also, the amount of cars to see is impressive. All or the cars are behind ropes, so you cannot touch them or get very close. As stated above, the museum is located in one large space, so the cars are just what can fit along the perimeter of the room. There are also large displays discussing the history of Hendrick, along with various trophies. Team Store - 5/5 Rating Hendrick has the largest selection of merchandise for any of the racing teams, by far. There is plenty of selection for each current cup series driver, along with a diverse selection for past drivers. There was a clearance rack of items, and they were also running a promotion of a free item if you spent so much in the shop. You got to pick the item from a select area in the shop. The die cast selection left something to be desired. However, there are plenty of knickknack-type items to choose from. Garage Access - 2/5 Rating In terms of garage access, there is not a ton for this team. As stated above, the garage is located in a separate building on the property from the museum and gift shop. But, this access of this area is limited. The viewing area is only one smaller window. They were working on an Xfinity car at the time we were there, and you were asked not to take pictures of the garage area. Overall Access - 5/5 Rating The access here is rather vast when comparing to other teams. You are able to drive around the entire campus, and see a lot while doing so due to the size. Additionally, there is access for fans to the pit practice area. This is a unique aspect of Hendrick that we did not see from other teams. There is also access to the team lobby, specifically the 5 and the 9 who share a building. This is where the garage viewing area is located. It also had multiple trophies on display, historical items and past cars. Extras - 5/5 Rating Being able to see live pit practice for the team is rather insane. This is not happening at all hours the shop and museum are open, but when the crew is conducting practice, fans are invited to view the sessions. We witnessed this on a previous trip to Hendrick, and watched the practice for an extended period. The pit practices are held in the designated area behind the museum and gift shop. There were even bleachers for fans to sit on for the practice. The Hero Cards are also located in the lobby/entrance of the museum, and the selection was good! In the 5 and 9 team buildings is where the public access to the garages are located. There are a few more race cars to see in there, but the highlight of this part of Hendrick is the receptionist for the building. She was so friendly, and let us hold the sword trophy from Jimmie Johnson's last Bristol win. It is right on the desk, so you will not miss it. This was a major highlight for my fiancé! If you can only make one racing team stop while in the area, Hendrick is the place to stop. There is a lot to look at in the museum, as well as one of the most diverse gift shops of all the teams. It is nice to be able to get merchandise from current drivers, as well as retired Hendrick legends. The extras here are top-notch. If you are able to visit during the pit practice, that would make the whole trip worth it. This absolutely is a must-stop for any racing fan while in the area.

Signs and officers are everywhere directing traffic. The walk to the stadium from parking is scenic and kind of short. I've been to other stadiums where the walk seems to take days. A lot of college students yelling and partying their way to the stadium - like they should be. Security isn't bad, a sign with "rules" is posted at the gates however, it's too late by then if you have something they don't allow. There is a check in station where you can leave something (like a water bottle that isn't allowed). They do allow clear, empty bottles for water and there are stations for filling those. Food is Bojangles and Pizza mostly with some other stadium style foods (hot dogs, peanuts, popcorn, etc.). This year is the second year alcohol is served but the first year where taking it back to your seat is allowed. Cabarrus Brewery is the local craft selection and there's some others like Bud Light and a couple of wines. Seating is aluminum bench style and most seats offer great visibility unless...the cart with the camera man is rolling up and down the sidelines. The height of the cart is just high enough to block the entire view. Overall, great experience.

There's…read moresomething special about walking into the theater, smelling fresh popcorn, and settling into a comfortable seat while the lights dim. I was looking forward to enjoying a nice, peaceful movie night--just escaping into a different world for a couple of hours. At first, everything felt perfect. The screen lit up, the sound filled the room, and I became immersed in the story. The audience around me was quiet and respectful, which made the experience even better. A good theater environment allows you to forget about everything else and focus completely on the film. However, not long after the movie started, loud cultural music began playing in the theater room next to ours. It sounded like there was a celebration or a special screening happening, with energetic songs and heavy bass. While I respect and appreciate cultural music and events, the volume was so loud that it carried straight through the walls and into our theater. During quiet scenes, the bass thumped loudly, and the music overlapped with the dialogue on screen. The biggest issue was that the rooms clearly were not soundproof. Instead of thick, insulated walls blocking outside noise, it felt like only a thin barrier separated the theaters. Every beat and rhythm echoed into our space, making it difficult to concentrate. Movie theaters are designed to create an immersive experience, but without proper soundproofing, that experience is easily disrupted. As the movie continued, I found myself more distracted than entertained. Important emotional moments were interrupted by sudden bursts of music from next door. Other people in the theater shifted in their seats, and a few even looked around in frustration. The peaceful atmosphere that makes movie nights enjoyable had completely disappeared. In the end, what was supposed to be a lovely, relaxing evening turned into a disappointing experience. While the event in the other room may have been meaningful for those attending, the lack of soundproofing between theaters showed poor planning and consideration. A movie theater should provide an escape from outside noise, and without proper sound insulation, that magic is lost.
