Family of 4 stayed here one night, on our way out of Big Bend. We arrived on a Monday night at 6pm. Entire town was dark. Thankfully my brother had stayed here a year ago and told me to pick up key at the Lounge across the street. Well the Lounge was closed, so was the hotel office. But there was a sign that said pick up key in the mailbox to the left of the door. And there it was. Tight security here. They had set up a rollaway cot, per my request. Hurray! Room is simple and roomy. Beds are foam mattresses - sort of "IKEA-ish". Shower was hot - for all 4 of us. Felt great to wash away a little Big Bend dirt! There is a cool pool, but it's a little cold to swim. No coffee in room so off we go in search of a cup of java in this sleepy town. Would stay here again. read more

I stayed three nights a coupla weeks ago. I travel alot domestically as well as internationally and can vouch that the ambience, friendliness of the staff as well as the accomodations are all top notch. The Thunderbird isn't for everyone, if you want, or think, you need a five star hotel--which are expensive/generic anyhow, you might want to go to Dallas or Houston or --shudder, cause it was once a beautiful city--Austin. The Thunderbird would cost three times as much if it were located in one of those cities and it'd be full all the time. Sure it's "minimal" but it's well-done cool and even has a train come by twice a day, adding to that original ambience. Truth be told, I can't wait to get back. It'll only get better, as the owners are committed to making it one of the best in a town full of bests. read more

I truly enjoyed our stay at the Thunderbird. The room was very tastefully decorated in a very modern, yet not sterile style. The bathroom was very spacious with a huge closet for all our stuff so we didn't need to leave our bags in the bed room. The toiletries were fantastic and the best was the 'mini bar' basket filled with retro candy, a variety of really good chocolate, drinks, some Thunderbird merchandise and even a pack of 'American Spirits' cigarettes. Everything was really clean. The pool area was lovely. Though it was too cold to go for a swim, it was wonderful just chilling out there with a drink and a smoke. In the morning, they served a small breakfast in a common room. There was coffee, fruit, yoghurt, muffins and granola. The only negative I can think of would be that there was no wireless internet in the room. Though apparently there was at the pool area, but I couldn't get a signal. However, free wifi was available in the common room next to the lobby. read more

It was a very nice, comfortable place to stay. They had a lot of cool little amenities that definitely made the whole experience more interesting, and it fit the landscape very well. Everyone at the front desk was also very nice and accommodating. The one thing though that other users have reported in is that you should definitely check your credit card statement after going here. They seem a bit prone to make mistakes for whatever reason, but are more than happy to work with you if you see anything odd. read more

This place has great shower pressure. The bed was okay, spring mattress,not sure why everyone loves it so much. Should I assume the water from the faucet was safe for drinking as we were provided fabulous glasses but no drinking water? If this "hotel" marketed as a "motel" (which it is) perhaps my expectations would be exceeded rather than an underwhelming experience for the price. Zen Minimalism Be very sure this hotel/motel is right for you before plopping down your deposit. They have a seven (7) day cancellation policy. Our room had no TV, no coffee pot, not even a chair to sit in, no light bright enough to read by, concrete floor and naked bare walls. There is no paved parking and no walkway to the nondescript entry. It rained while we were there, and the biggest mud puddle of all was right in front of the entrance. $180/night. Note: the motel is on the north side of the highway. The Office is on the south side, and it closes at 5 PM. Pros - nice Zen garden & swimming pool. All very clean. Very nice linens. Comfortable bed though only 18" off the floor. Train is a block away, so not too noisy. Walls are thin, but the management provides 3 sets of ear plugs. Get an upscale drink across the highway at the Capri if they are open. Get breakfast and coffee at Mando's 9 blocks west up the highway. read more

I'm going along with everyone that now refers to this place as The ThunderTurd. It is definitely a Motel, not a Hotel, but you wouldn't know this by their prices or their website. It was cool after the remodel, but now it has gone very much downhill since the change in ownership. When we were recently there it was 105 degrees, but the pool was so dirty & green that NO ONE went near it the whole time we were there. It was seriously filthy. When we complained, we were told that they "lost" their pool guy. They promised they would have someone out to clean it that day, but of course that never happened. The entire pool area was also a mess, with the trash can & ashtrays over-flowing, random trash & stuff lying around, etc. Our room was advertised as having a flatscreen TV & "mini bar", but it only had a very small old-school TV. There was a small basket with chips, etc & 1 warm coke, but no price list for anything, and what should we do with the 1 warm Coke, with no mini-fridge, or ice??? There was no printed information for anything, anywhere in the room. And the cleaning people came into our room twice, even though we had the "do not disturb" tag on the knob. The air conditioner was dumping water and it was pooling all over the floor. The white bath towels were either dirty or stained, I'm not sure which. When we talked to the manager about the issues, we got nowhere. She just gave us a blank stare and a $13 discount on each night & said that's all the computer would let her do. They seriously don't care about their guests. The staff are all young and seem very inexperienced. Sadly, we cut our stay in Marfa short, just to get out of that "hotel". read more

I've been to Marfa a couple of times and always try to stay at the Thunderbird. Usually a great experience and very Marfa/Donald Judd minimalist place. This time I had a couple of very bad experiences. The main one that that water had been turned off the morning I was leaving and I couldn't take a shower!!! This was about 8:00 am. I mentioned this to the desk clerk as I was checking out and she that it wasn't the hotel's fault and that the city turned off the water!!! Hmmm....I suggested that she make a minor adjustment to the bill of say $10.00 or $20.00 and she.."oh no I can't do that....it is not our fault" I mentioned that I paid for a room with running water and she said....." too bad it is not our fault" I asked her to call the manager. I spoke with the manager on the phone and she said the exact same thing........"it is not our fault....nothing we can do"!!!! It was clear that were not going to make any adjustment so I left without a shower. Very bad management is my opinion. Sloppy staff training. If you stay there you might want to ask in advance if the water is scheduled to be turned off. Or try another hotel that knows what being in the hospitality business means!!! read more

It's right on an active railroad track with five whistling trains a night. Now that we've gotten that out of the way--which the hotel fails to mention on its web site--this hotel only succeeds because there's only one other choice in town. The Thunderbird is nicely designed and perfect if you're looking to capture the Brooklyn hipster vibe in Texas. But it's basically an overpriced and not particularly well-maintained motel. The office and breakfast room are across the street. The beds are low to the ground and the frames rock badly. One uncomfortable chair per room. Old school TVs mounted hospital-style on the wall. Cement floors. Window shade that doesn't block out light and was torn. Above all, not enough parking, so you have to park across the street from your room. read more

I recently stayed at the Thunderbird over New Year's. At $175/night with a three night minimum, I found it to be very overpriced for what it was, which is essentially a motel. The first night, my friend's reservation was messed up, so we all had to share a room. That night was comped for us. However, housekeeping barely cleaned our rooms the entire stay, items didn't work or were missing from the room but were not fixed when asked. But the real problem was a billing issue upon check out that my friend had. The way it was handled was and continues to be highly unprofessional. The Thunderbird may be the most modern place to stay in Marfa, but I would recommend looking elsewhere. I stay at much nicer places with infinitely better service for around $30 or so dollars more a night. read more

Stayed at the Thunderbird for one night a few weeks ago (tried out the big historic hotel in Marfa for the second night) and had a really lovely experience. Checking in was smooth as can be, and the guy at the front desk was so nice to put me in a room on the second level of the building. The room was just as it looks in the photos on the website -- pretty spartan and simultaneously terribly stylish, though I'm not so sure what is "international" about the art collection -- but then again the place doesn't try to present itself as something it's not. In this case, what you see is what you get, and what I got was an awesome experience. And, no issues with the credit card charges as some others have mentioned... maybe I just got lucky! The bed was really comfortable, and all the blankets were great when it turned chilly in the evening hours. The water pressure in the shower was PHENOMENAL and the Malin & Goetz products were so great that I actually just ordered them online for my home. There's a funky chair outside each room, and the center courtyard has a nice (albeit small) pool with seating areas for communing and conversing. Also, every interaction I had with the staff was very pleasant -- they were quick with maps, restaurant and bar recommendations, and other niceties about Marfa. The only downsides were the super-dated TV perched in an upper corner of the room, and the remarkably loud A/C unit. All in all, I'll definitely be back for another stay at the Thunderbird. read more

Basic motel, rooms are "modern", pool closes early, ice machine busted (seems like it has been for years now), no fridge in room (Tecate doesn't keep itself cold), no breakfast, no coffee, no nothing. Lame. DO NOT LISTEN TO MOON GUIDE (if you are using it that is. "equally as impressive" is such a ridiculous comparison to the Paisano). Some suggested staying in Alpine instead, Fort Davis is also a nice stop. Marfa seems full of itself (pricing wise) and the "Thunder Turd" is no exception. read more

We stayed one night in this place after an Airbnb nightmare. The decor is modern and interesting, and the room was very clean and comfortable. I also really loved their landscaping around the courtyard/pool area. It's pretty minimal as hotel rooms go, though. No fridge (this sucked for us), no TV (not a problem for me but it might be for some people), no bathtub, no phone. But if you're into a hotel with a cool hipster vibe and minimal room amenities, you'll probably enjoy your stay. read more

Let's bump this rating up to closer to five stars. No reason for other hotels in Marfa to have a higher rating than the Thunderbird. When I gave it a bad rating way back in 2009, I was mostly upset about two things: 1) hated how the parking lot was like a roadside motel and right in front of your hotel door and 2) hated how the lounge wasn't open. Well, I was completely surprised to pull up the other day and see that the parking lot had been turned into a nice patio/garden. And the Capri across the space is an amazing bar/restaurant space. Austin would kill to have a lounge that great. Kind of like the Hotel San Jose. Of course, the rooms remain the same - very minimalistic. But that's fine with me. I think that the Thunderbird is my top hotel choice in Marfa now. No reason for this place to have such few stars. Great place to stay. And the soaps/shampoos are really nice. we came into marfa with reservations at the riata inn, and with the mindset that if we wanted to do one more day, then we would get a night at the thunderbird to "live the life." we were looking forward to checking it out. every time we interacted with thunderbird it was quite honestly not at all a customer oriented experience. so much so that we decided to continue to stay at the riata, which is what it is, a comfortable place to rest your heels without the pretension of being a boutique motel with something to prove. the lounge that we were excited to get michelatas in was never, never open, and looked like an ikea storage closet when you peeked through. we didn't miss it. and though we were able to rent their awesome bikes to play on around town, they gave us enough misguided grief to have almost averted getting that money from us, too. if they are in a business of attracting consumers, smack me in the face. because i didn't see that at all. this would be a one star item except the not-yet-ready thunderbird restaurant space looks fun, and i will try, despite their best efforts, to spend some money there when i next visit. read more

Meh, pretty overrated. From the pictures on the website, this place looks way cooler, cleaner and more modern than it actually turns out to be. I arrived at the office at around 5PM on the check in day. The receptionist was partially friendly. Didn't seem to be very interested to be there or to have a guest walk in. I was put in room 25. When I walked into the room it had a strong mildew odor. The room otherwise appeared to be clean. As it is still summer in west TX of was in the mid 90's and the room was very warm. I tried turning the AC on and found it to be non operational. I picked up the room phone. No dial tone. Went back across the street to the office to Miss Friendly. No apology, just moved to another room at the end of the hotel in a creepy and poorly lit alcove. Room 28. This room also smelled of mildew but at least had functioning AC. Incidentally this phone did work. It wasn't like I was planning to make any calls but it is nice to have a working phone in case I need to all the office or something. The rooms... Let's call a spade a spade. They are austere at best. No frills to say the least. The furnishings were pretty rundown. One of the bedside lights was burnt out, the toilet was constantly running (which annoys me. This is a part of the country that is naturally dry. The toilet should be fixed.) The bare concrete floor was pretty dirty and looked as of it had water stains on it. Maybe the cause of the mildew odor? The location is fine, though Hotel Pisano is actually downtown and looks much nicer (from the outside. I didn't check out the rooms. Also Riata Hotel appears much nicer too. The pool was green which kind of weirded me out. Finally, my credit card that was used to make the reservation and hold the $75 deposit was charged an additional $49 or $119 in total, for no apparent reason. This is also after my asking the receptionist to use my Amex for the remaining $75 due at check in. All in all, there are better choices in the Marfa area. Alpine is about 20 mins away and has many better hotel choices. Marfa has the other two hotel choices which look nicer too. Also expect to hear trains barrel through and blast their horn about every two hrs. I live next to a train yard in Denver, so it doesn't bother me to hear the trains, but be advised that this is a very much in use train track. The tracks are about a half block away and carry both Union Pacific freight trains and Amtrak's Texas Eagle passenger train. My advice, stay elsewhere. Oh yeah one more thing. Upon leaving, I noticed the smoke detector had the battery cover slightly open so I decided to give it a test. The battery was dead. Nice! -_- read more

The well-traveled visitor to Marfa will immediately notice that the town suffers from a distinct lack of corporate comforts. This paucity of options makes eating difficult, but nowhere is it more problematic than in the realm of accommodations. In the absence of a Hampton Suites, Red Roof Inn, Motel 6, or any other beacon of class and comfort, you may find yourself, as I did, rolling the dice on a local outfit such as the Thunderbird. Despite its exorbitant high price ($175+tax/night), the Thunderbird cuts corners everywhere it can. Observe, for example, the unpaved gravel parking lot. (Don't they realize that this is 2008?) Inside, the wall-to-wall carpet standard in any respectable motel is nowhere to be found. You will just have to make do with a concrete floor and an imitation animal skin rug. The furniture, what little the rooms contain, is sub-par and lacking in ornament. The bed is very low to the ground. This allows the sleeper to be aerodynamic, but it is otherwise rather pointless. The bathroom door is inadequately thick. Groans are only slightly muffled by its presence. The hotel attempts to compensate for these glaring deficiencies with a few "amenities". There is a fine little swimming pool, but it is surrounded by unsightly cacti. (Swimming is free of charge; there is not a water slide.) For a nominal fee, the hotel loans out record players, LPs, and bicycles. This would almost be funny were it not so pitifully small town and anachronistic. The real problem with the Thunderbird is its staff and clientele. The people in the rooms neighboring yours are likely to suffer from mental disorders of one variety or another. Based on close observation of eyewear, I suspect some of them may be artists, free spirits. This will lead them to believe that it is acceptable to have loud and insipid conversations directly outside of your room at 4:30am, despite your respectful requests that they speak softly or relocate. The management, when you complain the following morning, may bribe you by returning $50. This would be some consolation if the hotel were not already so overpriced. In conclusion, a Red Roof Inn should be built in Marfa. Could there also be a Kettle Restaurant? I hope so. Ideally, it will all be located within short walking distance of the Chinati Foundation. read more

For a town like Marfa, this place is pretty good. We stayed here one night on our way out east. We actually left I-10 and drove in the dark for a few hours to stay here. But we thought it was a little overpriced for the area. I mean, it's in the middle of nowhere (not that Marfa is not a delightful little town, it's just small and remote!) We asked for the basic queen room that went for 120. and you would think that for only having 2 other guests in the entire hotel they would have just given us a larger room. I was excited about going for a swim but the pool was closed when we got there and when we woke up to leave in the morning, I took a peek at it and wondered if it was even heated...there was no steam rising from it at all. We liked the decor of the room but one of our lamps was burnt out. The little minibar box in the room was pretty overpriced, and I was surprised to find out that they rent bikes and record players rather than just offer them as complimentary amenities to their guests. I kept thinking of the fabulous Orbit In in Palm Springs that offers all that to their guests for free...it's so nice to just arrive at your hotel and not have to worry that you've accidentally drank an $8.00 bottle of water. I hope I make it back to Marfa someday to spend a bit more time. I would stay here again but might look at other options as well. Oh, and the rooms need fridges! We had to leave all our cooler snacks in the cooler overnight, which kind of makes you scared to eat things the next day. read more

We had our wedding at the Capri Center and worked with Betty through the process. She's wonderful. It ended up being cost effective because they can order all of the beer and wine then you can bring your own liquor. All the staff up there is great! My guests enjoyed the pool and the free bikes. The breakfast is excellent. the rooms are simple but clean. I highly recommend Thunderbird Hotel!! I LOVE MARFA!! read more

We just had a horrible experience checking into the Thunderbird hotel where we've stayed happily several times before. I had reserved a wheelchair accessible on March 5th. I called last Thursday to confirm the arrangements as a proactive measure has this is not an uncommon occurrence. We arrived and we're basically told by the manger too bad . This is film festival and Marfa is fully booked. I asked her to call the St. George to see if that had an accessible accommodation which they did for $90 more a night. If the Thunderbird had simply honored my request and paid the difference considering their mistake. I'd have been back next weekend and several more in the future. We received refund and cancelled our future reservation. We came down to the St. George. They were aware of our unfortunate situation and took excellent care of us. This is a much superior property in every way. Good riddance Thunderbird, were here 3-5 times a year , but we will NEVER stay with you again and you will be my new example of poor customer service to my graduate students at and anyone else who will listen! read more

We ended up staying at the Thunderbird when our other honeymoon plans fell through. It's a great place for couples and a nice break from the hokey rustic western decor you see in hotels across Texas. We were there during the week, so it was very quiet and the few others staying there were also young couples. The pricing is on par with other renovated motor lodges and smaller hotels in the area. Comfy bed and nice toiletries; no noticeable train noise. Would absolutely stay here again. read more

But if like me you appreciate this aesthetic you will find the Thunderbird charming and cozy (clean, comfortable bed, well-lit, etc.) The only thing "cold" about it is the pool (unheated). The vibe is eerily similar to the Ace in Portland. ONE WARNING: Avoid Marfa on Mon/Tues. Most stuff is only open Thurs-Sun. and it's a ghost town in the early/midweek. read more

Well, I will be the seventh person to comment about this hotel's mismanagement of it's customers credit cards. My party booked three rooms for two nights each in Marfa at the Thunderbird, all three of us were charged 33 DAYS AFTER OUR STAY. When I emailed the general manager she took no responsibility for the mishandling of our bank accounts stating... "I understand that being charged a month after the service was provided inappropriate, our batching system that is not under our control was not collecting the money as we made the charges, according to our records the credit cards were being charged as the service was provided" Here are some other related comments about the Thunderbird Hotel: -"Read the other reviews. My girlfriend and I recently took a vacation to Marfa, TX and stayed at The Thunderbird (El Cosmico was booked). The hotel room was adequate, if a little overpriced for Ikea furniture in a fairly minimalist room (BTW, my idea of modernism done well in a hotel room is the Kimber in Austin). Unfortunately for us, the town of Marfa pretty much shuts down from Sunday - Tuesday, (i.e. 95% of the restaurants, galleries, shops are closed down). We found this out the hard way. When we went to speak with the front office staff at The Thunderbird about this and to see what else there was to do in the area (can't look things up yourself - little to no wifi or cellular connections), we were met with nothing but indifference. There were no suggestions put forth on how we could better spend our time. We then asked if it were possible for us to have a late check-out seeing as it was only 1 o'clock. We were told that was not possible because our room had already been cleaned for a "stay over," and not a check out. We were disappointed but understood and in no way blamed The Thunderbird for Marfa's lack of activity during our stay. We then went back to our room, found out that no cleaning had been performed yet and that the cleaning staff was still on sight. We decided to leave even though we were unable to get even a partial refund for the evening. When we went back to the front office to check out, we let them know that the room had not yet been cleaned, they said it made no difference. On the way out, after paying for both nights, I commented politely to the staff that it would have been nice for them to have provided us with either a simple, "Sorry things didn't work out during your stay," or some sympathy of any sort. My comment was met with, "What should we apologize for," a bad attitude and an overly sarcastic "Sorry!" Having worked in customer service myself for many years, I found their lack of respect for paying customers surprising, especially compared to the treatment I've received at your other establishments. We then left and as we walked by an open window overheard the same staff members having an extremely unprofessional conversation about us, full of laughter and mockery. I immediately went back in to ask for the manager. The young lady we had been speaking with informed me that she, in fact, was the manager. I asked for her name which she told me was Betty. This exchange was very upsetting and easily overshadowed our disappointment in Marfa being all but closed down. I'll definitely give Marfa another shot, but definitely not The Thunderbird. I wrote to Bunkhouse, but they apparently sold off The Thunderbird years ago and no longer manage the property. TL;DR: Mediocre facilities, really crappy service. read more

my boyfriend and i went here this past winter and it was amazing. we were there during the off season so it was very quiet...i think there were two other rooms occupied. we were in a corner room on the second floor, and yeah, the train was loud but i actually loved that! my boyfriend requested the romantic package and it was adorable! i think the website promises breakfast at your door (muffins, etc) with this package but we never received that. i don't know how this place usually is, but it was quiet and there was a full moon during our stay and it was beautiful. the room was small, but perfect for a couple. read more

If a hotel is too hip to have television, then it sh have ultra fasst wi-fi. Yes or no? unfortunately, TBird has no TV and very slow wifi. Disappointng. Otherwise the TBird is a cute, retro styled motel. The rooms are clean. The bed comfy. If you had a group of friends that want to "take over" a hotel, then this might be the place for you. there are seating areas around the pool and other guests seem cool about things. Maybe that s why rooms had packs of earplugs in the bath. This place is on thed edge of town. admitted, Marfa is not a big town [in fact we were disappointed a bit in the town], but hotel is NOT downtown.. thus, i thought price was a little high. for the money, you could stay at El Paisano and receive full service. The Thunderbird is way cool and minimal. Had that Judd vibe. Found people to be friendly and didn't really experience the loudness/thin walls issues, but maybe our neighbors for 3 week nights were quiet. The swinging bathroom door in Room 21 really needed some WD-40 so we just left it open at night. The trains are right behind the hotel, so expect to be awakened, but that is the case everywhere in town, so it isn't the hotel's fault and they do provide earplugs if you want them. When I wiped up some water on the bathroom floor the towel came up black, so I would say they don't mop often enough. Made me want to wear shoes the whole time. The bathroom is really large and there is plenty of space for luggage and spreading out your junk, which is nice. The room was small, with no real space for lounging, because the chairs at the table are pretty small and uncomfortable, so expect to lounge on the bed at all times. And when the sidewalks of the town roll up at 10pm, you are going to have to lounge, if you are not an early to bed type. Neither of us slept very well, (the bed is very firm), but we couldn't really put our finger's on why. Yet way better than our last night in town spent at the Paisano. It was also a good central place where we could drop by for a clean bathroom during the day, pull out some snacks and relax before heading back out to explore. The Wifi was fast enough to allow us to stream Netflix movies on our iPad, so that passed the time. Many free Wifi places can't handle that type of data. read more

We're in our second day at this motel, and so far the experience has been poor. One of the reading lights didn't work. I told the front desk guy about it this morning, and he said it would be taken care. The bathroom door also had an awful screech that a little oil would have fixed. He said that would be taken care of. I got back at five, and nonthing had been done. I went to the front desk, and they finally found a light bulb for me, but that didn't work because the light seems to be shorted. The "lounge" is also supposed to be open for coffee and things at seven am, and when I showed up at 7:15, it was locked, and no one was at the front desk. I came back at eight, and someone was there. It is not a well run place. For pure service, a Super Eight would have been better. And this place is a lot more expensive. NOTE: on the next day, I complained, and this time to someone who seemed to have auhtority. and she apologized and gave me a credit on our final bill, so I'd give them a second chance. read more

I had my wedding at Capri lounge and worked with Betty for over a year on the details. Their staff accommodated our guests at thunderbird and went out of their way to ensure that my guests were comfortable and offered to help in any way they could, including putting guest bags in rooms for me and hunting down speakers for the ceremony! The property and rooms are minimal, but beautiful, and fit the setting so wonderfully. Highly recommended! read more

We were hesitant because of others' reviews, but our experience was fantastic! We didn't hear the train, but even if we had, we wouldn't have held that against them: that's a Marfa issue, not a Thunderbird issue. this is my fave hotel in Marfa. -friendly staff -great beds -great showers -they put snacks in the room -the design is great -rental bikes -you can rent an old 45 player -prices are do-able (esp. if youre a return customer...hint hint) i would recommend this hotel over any other in Marfa. but, the only reason that i dont give my review 5/5 is because of the railroad that runs right behind the place, and nobody mentioned that to me. i had no idea. my first night there, i was soundly sleeping in the fantastic beds there - when all of the sudden this loud as hell train horn goes off...it startled me pretty good. every time a train goes thru marfa, you will most certainly hear it if youre staying at the thunderbird. ..they have ear plugs in every room for a reason. but, that should not discourage anyone from staying here. this place is great and the front desk workers are very friendly. you should check it out if youre in the area read more

My partner and I paid $180 for a room at the Thunderbird--tax included. What we got for that was the smallest hotel room we have ever been in. No complimentary bottled water--not even one-- and if we wanted ice, we had to go to the store next door and buy it. There was no television or DVD player. There were 2 plastic glasses in the bathroom --nothing more. Not one complimentary item. I get the minimalistic idea of the decor but does everything have to be minimal at the expense of the guest? The next night we went to the Hotel Piasano and there FOR THE SAME PRICE was a balcony over looking the courtyard, a complete bar set up--water, ice, wine glasses (made of glass), and a small refridge, a king size bed and large TV with cable. The bathroom had complimentary lotions, shampoos, soaps etc...I get that the decor was not hip minimalist--but the comfort to the guest far exceeded the price. Not at all the case at the Thunderbird. read more
