Late night pho. The other place we were at was super busy and they closed earlier so we made our way to Thuy Nguyen cafe. It definitely was less busy than the other place but also the ac seems to be barely working there. So it'll be like you're in Vietnam. Honestly if they opened the door as it cooled down later that night it would've been good. We got their filet mignon pho and it had tons of noodles and lots of meat. The pho broth was also flavorful and more on the sweet side. I split the pho with my mom and baby. (They don't eat much). I liked it cause the meat didn't include tripe or tendons like other places. It kept it simple. There was meat balls (bò viên), bò tái, and the filet mignon which was tender. We would come back if in the area and wanting pho late at night. Note they don't serve certain dishes on the menu after a certain time. They didn't have bánh bèo or the nước mắm wings when we went around 10:45 pm. It also takes a bit longer for food to come out than but I can live with that since their hours are more extended and potentially less staff at the later hours read more

Don't let the exterior of this place deter you from trying it out. This is a hole in the wall mom and pop type of establishment that serves some pretty solid Vietnamese food. My husband and I came on a Sunday afternoon and surprisingly were the only ones inside. Unfortunately they were not serving banh xeo that day so we ordered the banh beo (steamed shrimp rice cakes) to start. They were MASSIVE. It was a little too much rice flour for my liking though. For entrees my husband had the bun bo hue and I had the bun rieu. Based on all the yelp reviews it sounds like most people come for the bun bo hue and it did not disappoint. We LOVED this place! We got a bunch to share and enjoyed everything. We took our non Vietnamese friends and they ate everything too. Our favorites were the mi quang and the nuoc mam wings. The wings take a while so make sure to either call ahead or order it asap, it's so worth it though because the portion is huge. I was so happy to find a place that stays open a little later than most restaurants. A bowl of bún bò Huế sounded so good, so we decided to come to Thuy Nguyen for a late dinner. We had a party of six, and it was quite busy considering it was around 10 p.m. It was also loud in the room next to the restaurant, I believe they host private parties and karaoke over there. Between the six of us, we ordered three phở, two bún bò Huế, and one bún riêu. Oh my, the excessive amount of sugar in each dish completely ruined our meal...everything was way too sweet! Holy crap, I thought from the other reviews it would be bad but this is super authentic Vietnamese food and so delicious, which I was surprised to find in Dallas. We had the Bo Tai Chanh which was so amazingly delicious. The Lau Duoi Bo was also refreshing and tasted great with the noodles. We shared everything as a table of 5 and the mix of Bun Bo Hue with the Lau noodles was so good. The nuoc mam wings were perfectly cooked and crispy+saucy. I have this bad habit of defaulting to the most basic options (i.e. pho, banh mi) whenever I visit a Vietnamese restaurant. My Viet friends took me to this spot for dinner and refused to let me order pho this time. I'm so glad they did that because the Bun Bo Hoe tasted phenomenal. The soup's flavor hits hard and adding chili oil on top added an unexpected level of savoriness. I was happy to see that they didn't skimp out on meat as well. I also tried two different kinds of Bang Beo for the first time. Both of them tasted great but I especially enjoyed the Quang Ngai. The pork rinds work perfectly on this dish. Lastly, I'm used to authentic Vietnamese restaurants having less than stellar restrooms but the entire shop looked quite clean. Maybe it's just a Houston Asiatown thing. Arlington's Asian enclaves have sure left me full of surprises in the past two days. read more

Saw this place recommended for pho on a facebook group. We saw a few people say this was their top. So I'll start by saying that they are not welcoming. The older lady with the ponytail was definitely the most unfriendly. There was an older gentleman who greeted us and advised us to have a seat anywhere we'd like. We ordered the Spring Rolls with Shrimp and Pork for appetizers. They were okay but lacked flavor. I will say that they are pretty big in portion and had high hopes. The peanut sauce as so bland that I tried adding red chili paste to it but it did nothing. It didn't help that it had no spice whatsoever. Which leads me to the pho. I usually add the red chili paste to my pho because I like extra spicy. It did nothing. I had the 1- Phở Thủy Nguyên and my husband had the 19- Bún Thịt Nướng. The pho had potential but the broth was so bad on grease that it made the consistency a bit thick. I wasn't a fan of that. My husband wasn't a fan of the excessive peanuts but other than that he really enjoyed his plate. I don't know how they handle tipping here. When we paid the same lady checked us out, my husband tried handing over a tip and she looked at him a little crazy. So he just put it down on the counter and we left. The establishment seemed okay as far cleanliness but could use a little more work. I think it may be family owned and operated. I didn't look much into it or read about it other than the pho recommendation on Facebook. It's just very unwelcoming and for that reason we won't be back. read more

My sis and her partner took us to this spot bc they open late at night. We just arrived and they were already so busy with only two people running the front and two people cooking in the back. Very impressive. We ordered Vietnamese fish sauce chicken wings. These are bone in - very good and crispy. Great flavor. Ask for white rice to balance out the flavor. Kinda wish it came with some side veggies like cucumber or tomato. Overall very good. 5/5 stars Bun Bo hue- this is more on the sweeter fattier side. I like mine a bit more lemon grassy which I wasn't able to taste as much in the broth. Flavor is still good. 4/5 Service was friendly! It wasn't fast bc they were busy but efficient enough. I was visiting Arlington for a work trip and we decided to come here late at night when we landed. My friend got the bun rieu, I got the pho and we ordered the banh xeo. I think the bun rieu was one of the best I've ever had. It was so good. The pho was good, and solid and the banh xeo was good but I've had better and more flavorful everywhere else. We came back a second time because it was that good and I ordered the bun rieu again. We also ordered the wings which you see the price range and it was $33 but I think it was worth it because they give you 18 wings. They were huge and they were delicious. It's probably the best wings I've ever had, including Korean fried chicken, which I have a bias since I am Korean. We also got the banh beo with toppings that I've never encountered before and I thought it was pretty good and they were fairly large, but they weren't as soft as other places, but I do think that the flavor was excellent. read more

Our large group stopped by for a post wedding lunch and easily filled the whole restaurant turning the busy schedule to busier than normal, yet the owners accommodated our large party like a champ. We ordered the Pho Thuy Nguyen, Pho Thuy Duoi Bo, Mi Quang, and Bun Rieu Cua. I quite liked the variety of herbs, spices and meats across all four orders. Ahhh finally some pho I like in Arlington! Not too bland like the ones that cater for white people. Thick slices of meat, chili oil that's spicier than the usual. Most importantly broth was pretty grrrreeat!!!! Initially was scared because it smelled too herbal but once I tried it, it was perfect. We went to the HK Night Market down the road a few months ago and was in the area. It was 10:00 at night and husband told me to look for something open late. Thuy Nguyen is open until Midnight!! Husband wanted the Cafe Sua Dua. Like dude..it's 10:00 at night, you won't sleep if you have strong coffee this late. The guy also told him the same thing. He's like NO WAY! lol. The kids weren't hungry cuz they ate at the night market. Husband and I got the Bun Bo Hue to share. Honestly, should've gotten my own, but I don't usually like eating a lot at night. I'm usually a snacker at night. It was the best BBH I've ever had. Spicy and flavorful. They definitely didn't white it down!! We also got Banh Beo. The pricing of the food would be the only thing that I would complain about. $15 for a bowl is pricey and if you pay with card there's an additional charge so bring cash. Thuy Nguyen Cafe is legit home style Viet food done right! I loved the homey feeling of the restaurant, and it really shows in the quality of their food. My favorites here are their Bun Bo Hue and Bun Rieu. You can tell they boil their broth for hours from the richness of the broth by itself. It's the kind of broth that warms you to your soul, especially on a chilly Winter day. The meat is always tender, and their limes/mint/basil/jalapenos/bean sprout accompaniments are always fresh.
