My boyfriend and I have made our B&B getaways a tradition over the past 9+ years of our relationship, and we are always on the hunt for just the right spot to recharge and spend quality time together. As the summer season wrapped up on Labor Day weekend, I am so glad I found Thyme for Bed on bedandbreakfast.com when looking for getaways not-too-far from our Chicago home. Bill and Crystal are the new innkeepers at this unique and cozy B&B in the middle of cornfields and far enough away from the city lights that you feel like your in your own little bubbled respite. And when I say bubble, I mean literally, the giant concrete sphere makes that feeling a bit of a unbelievable reality. Upon arrival, Crystal gave us the grand tour of the one-of-a-kind dome, and we got the inside scoop on lots of details about the structure itself. And while we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Pheasant Room, we can't wait to go back to enjoy a stay in the Santa Fe-esque "In Your Dreams" Master Suite. The beautiful gem-walled walk-in shower power base bed, and huge jacuzzi was more than enough to convince us. :-) Of course, the down-to-earth hospitality of Bill and Crystal were the icing on the cake. We left feeling like a part of the family, and with bellies full of homemade yogurt parfait, delicious fresh peach topped french toast tartlet, and cinnamon scones lingering in our taste buds. read more

I am so glad I was able to find Thyme for Bed on Booking! Crystal and Bill were the loveliest hosts- we arrived much later than our check in time as we were in town for a Notre Dame football game. They stayed up until we arrived at 10pm and we chatted with the lovely couple for almost an hour after that- just about life! They were so friendly and easy to talk to, and if we had not been so tired we would have loved to continue talking to them over coffer. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the Dome and that it is the probably the safest place in case of any natural disaster or fire. Our stay was short (just one night) but we would love to come back just to have a more relaxing stay and enjoy the beautiful outdoors around the Dome as well. The room was certainly a fun design and everything was super clean. There was coffee, tea, water, and snacks at the ready right outside our room upstairs, available at any time. We had to wake up and leave pretty early (7AM) the next morning to catch our flight from Chicago and Bill & Crystal both woke up early to see us off. They also made us coffee and orange scones (which were delicious) for the road. We really appreciated their closeness and openness- definitely a must see place and a great B&B. We hope to be back! This is not necessarily a negative but there was ALOT of furniture everywhere. I can see some people not liking this because it does feel as if you are literally in someone else's home- but I thought it made it a little more authentic. Had a wonderful stay last night in this unique dome b&b. Friendly hosts were very welcoming and make a wonderful, gourmet breakfast! Crystal sent us home with homemade scones that are to die for! Rooms and house are very clean with every detail thought through. If available, choose the turquoise room for the spa tub, cool shower, gas fireplace and adjustable bed. My husband and I stayed here for our one year anniversary. We liked the exclusiveness of it as well as the fact that we felt very safe. Ask the owners about the construction of the home as well as about the map upstairs, and you'll learn some interesting background information about them and the home. We stayed in the suite downstairs and loved the decor. The room was also incredibly clean and had everything we could ask for (ie. whirlpool tub , stand up shower, double sinks, king bed, and adjustable AC). The room was much nicer than any hotel I've stayed in and breakfast the next morning was home cooked & delicious! If you're looking for something cozy, clean, and unique this may be a perfect stay for you. read more

My first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and I am not disappointed! Sherryl, the owner, is so warm and friendly, making sure you are comfortable and have everything you want and need. She asks what you would like for breakfast, if you have any food requirements or preferences. The "in your dreams" room is the one I stayed in. It was by far the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. It has a whirlpool tub, and walk-in shower, a fireplace, a really nice bed, and an HD tv with dvd player. There is free wi-fi. You can let Sherryl know when you want to eat breakfast and you will walk to the dining table to find home-made bread and delicious freshly-made food. There is coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and pastries available 24 hours. And complimentary drinks in your room as well. It can't get better!! But is does..outside is beautiful! There is a seating area surrounded by a garden, and another seating area under a big willow tree. And the house itself is a monolithic dome (which I never heard of before). It is not built like a normal house; it is a big dome. It's great! I will definitely be back! read more

Thyme for Bed is incredible! If you're looking for a relaxing weekend, look no further. Sheryl (the innkeeper) was so welcoming and friendly. She had plenty of suggestions for daytime activities and restaurants. Really made sure we had everything we could ever want without being overbearing. She was also full of interesting stories if you've got the time. The rooms were very clean (with really comfy beds that are hard to leave). We stayed in the Pheasant Room the first night and In Your Dreams the second. Both were great. One thing to avoid: When you're driving in, avoid State Line Road. We drove in at night and it was pitch dark without streetlights, bumpy, partially flooded and would have easily been a scene from a bad scary movie. If possible, take 41 or go during the daytime. My first time at a bed & breakfast, and my boyfriend and I can't wait to return! Boyfriend was shocked when I pulled up in front of a "dome" looking house. We're big fans of the new TV show "Under the Dome," so I thought this would be appropriate. He loved it! Sherryl, the owner, greeted us at the front door, gave us a tour of the rooms and talked with us like we were old friends. This place was immaculate, the rooms eclectic and the "dome" house was a gem hidden among the cornfields! Our room was comfy and cozy... we had the "Pheasant Room," and it was decorated accordingly. I didn't think I'd go for such a "manly" sort of room, but it was amazing! As Sherryl showed us around, she told us what she had planned for breakfast.. making sure we'd be okay with it. We were treated to French toast with caramelized bananas, fresh fruit (some off their own trees), chicken sausage, and some edible flowers from their garden (mini pansies, perhaps?). Coffee, tea, juice or hot chocolate to drink... all served in fine china and glass. Spending a quiet evening in a peaceful place... the weeping willow tree was the icing on the cake. Take the little walk bridge beneath the tree and there you'll find a wrought iron patio table and chairs tucked beneath it, along with a wooden swing. We went back out after dark... there were several strands of rope lights making it seem like a magical hideaway. Can't wait to go back again! read more

My husband & I have visited Thyme for Bed B & B twice in the past 4 months and we absolutely love it! It is a very unique experience in several ways. First of all it is a monolithic dome designed and built by the owners themselves. Second the interior decor is both gorgeous and welcoming. The owners, Don & Sheryl share in the cooking and both present delicious and aesthetically pleasing breakfasts. The B & B is placed out-of-town just far enough for those who want to "get away from it all"; yet close enough to area attractions that you can go "out and about". All the rooms are beautiful and have their own themes. We have stayed in the "Victorian Room" and the "In Your Dreams" and enjoyed each of them immensely. Don & Sheryl are warm and friendly, very accommodating, interesting and easy to talk to. They are very attentive to even the small details, which makes your stay fun and makes you feel pampered. We enjoy their company as much as staying at the B & B. If you have never been, I urge you to try it. I don't think you could possibly be disappointed! And yes....we plan to go back! J. One of our favorite places to stay. Quiet, comfortable and inviting. The innkeepers are great. They always go above and beyond for their guests. We have stayed here several times and plan on going back several more times. The dome is spectacular. Very comfortable and open. The heated floors and walk in shower are spot on. The In Your Dreams Room has it all- the walk in shower, whirlpool tub, heat lamp in the bathroom, fireplace, mini fridge, etc. the innkeepers are great folks. They acquaint you with everything and give you privacy to relax but are a phone call away if you need them. You won't be disappointed. read more
