I hope not to stay in another hotel in Chicago again. The Publishing House is just that charming and wonderful. The rooms have everything I want: a place to hang my clothes, shelves to put my things, a desk to work upon, an easy to connect to bluetooth speaker, nice bath products, and a comfy bed with great sheets. There's a closet with clothing steamers (a must have hotel item for me!), irons and DISTILLED WATER. Anyone who is serious about steaming uses distilled water to do it. (Thank you for knowing this, Publishing House!) I went directly to this closet to get myself a steamer! There's a kitchen where you can make yourself a pot of tea (or coffee) any time, a fridge you can put your food in, and a beautifully appointed living room that you can hang out in (with, or without, your friends). I don't usually eat breakfast but the breakfast (included in your stay!) is too good to pass up! Glorious cooked breakfasts plus fruit, granola, yogurt, and homemade baked goods. The staff is made up of talented and attractive staff who are also kind and helpful. The Publishing House is my dream come true. If I could find a place like it in New York, Toronto, and LA I'd be 10X happier to travel to those cities. read more

Heavenly Loft B&B. My husband and I stayed at the Publishing House for four wonderful nights. Our room, the Carmen, was even better than shown in photos. Quiet, exquisitely comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and uniquely decorated (in all the right ways). We felt like we were guests in the amazing home of a contemporary art collector. The pantry was a treat for quick snacks and refrigerator space. Breakfasts were inventive, delicious and health conscious. The "public" areas were spacious enough to share with other guests easily, nothing like a hotel lobby lounge. The hosts were great with communicating check-in and checkout, as well as friendly tips about the front door during a humid weekend. The list of restaurants and local shops was beyond useful. We also enjoyed happy hour in the affiliated restaurant below. This was our first trip to Chicago in a long time, we had such a good time, we'll be back in the fall and the Publishing House B&B will be our first choice to stay. read more

Giving a 5 rating even though my experience completely soured after being charged $8 for a PH coaster, because "one was missing." I happened to take photos of this lovely room on entry, hopefully that will put an end to coaster-gate. I was refunded and apologized to, as well Anyways, completely perfect experience otherwise. Thoughtful additions to room like heated floors, quality shampoo and soap and black out blinds. Also, down the hall were complimentary sofa and sparkling water, a nice treat. The room itself was oozing with charm and perfectly decorated from the plants to art. The bed was comfortable and oversized tv was nice as well. 100% recommend rather than a big box hotel. read more

This is my favorite place to stay! They make you feel at home, as though you were staying with a close friend. The rooms are cozy and beautifully decorated and the best part is the spacious and comfortable common area, where you can relax with a cup of coffee and just read a book. The breakfast offerings are absolutely delicious and the employees are all professional and low-key, respecting your desire to either be social or quiet. Chicago, Il. What's there not to like here? Real tasteful restoration of an old Chicago building with an edge leaning toward luxury. The bed, great. I slept well and it was pretty quiet except for my neighbors squeaky floor at 6:30 am. Fortunately he did not tarry too long. Surprisingly, almost no street noise. The breakfast, amazing. Homemade omlettes, granola, yougurt, fruit, rich coffee, orange juice, and much more. The buttered toast was hard to put down. Something for everyone, all good. I had the pleasure to stay here mid-March and I couldn't have felt more taken care of - from the cozy welcoming vibe to the complementary (homemade) snacks, cleanliness, invisible service (no loud banging on the door from housekeeping - they clean once you're gone for the day), bathroom products, morning breakfast, fireplace and books - it feels private and exclusive and tailored especially for you - all the comforts of home and then some. I've never actually stayed here, but I have been for several events and toured each of the bedrooms. What a cute spot in a great location! Plus they have a little speakeasy vibe spot downstairs from them called "The Press Room." My use of this space would definitely be for a wedding party. There's a kitchen and the space is just so cozy to entertain. Hard to describe in detail how beautiful each room is, so you have to go check it out for yourself. read more

Everything about this place is Top notch! We rented the whole place for our son's wedding and many out of state guests. The food was also so wonderful! Believe the hype! 1 night, business travel. Can't imagine staying anywhere else in Chicago. Ideal place for a family event or friends getaway! TIPS: Booking via 3rd party website was approx $40 more for the most basic room (they don't get the money) - for best rates book directly! Check-in before 7pm or let them know you're arriving late. In a spectacularly renovated old building so voices carry in the hallway. Wasn't a big issue, most guests were quiet after 10pm and earplugs were provided. (Caveat emptor for light sleepers not used to having neighbors!) Bonus - USB charging ports, adjustable lighting, electronic blackout shades, windows that open, great pillows. Also, Netflix in every room! No pets, but the owners love dogs so they're okay in my book. (If you're lucky you'll catch their dogs going out for a walk.) BREAKFAST IS NOT TO BE MISSED!! My daughter and I had several trips planned pre-covid. All were canceled. We had a few concerts scheduled- also canceled. She moves to college next month, so I asked her to pick a city she'd like to visit before she leaves and we'd go for a week. She picked Chicago. I found The Publishing House and right away knew it was a good fit for us. Here in Northern Ca we're in a drought so showers are cut very short ... the B&B had a room available with not just a gorgeous shower but also a claw foot tub. Baths! Long glorious, deep baths. We stayed in Everleigh for four nights - and considering we're used to Napa prices for hotels (our go to when we want to get away, the daily rate of the Everleigh 300+ wasn't bad) plus it included breakfast. Done! We got there super late, checkin was emailed to me and was super easy. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. So good! Coming and going was a breeze with the b&b - and I always felt super safe. The room is beautiful, the bathroom was phenomenal (steam shower and claw foot tub) and the window coverings & temp were all easily adjustable. I learned a few things and id like to share them here - nothing bad at all considering we'll be back for sure! Dietary restrictions - I was looking forward to gluten free baked goods (there were a few pics of Gf donuts I saw online (their Yelp, website...somewhere) but they never served anything like this. There was gluten free option in the main breakfast tho so that was great. I'm pretty sure on the intake form I had included I was gluten free but I'm not sure. I'm not celiac (I do get sick when I eat gluten but it isn't fatal like celiac) so I didn't sweat it. The bed - way too soft. I felt like I just sunk into it and didn't move. I woke up stiff every day. I also feel like this is going to be a very good thing for most people. I have issues with my neck, so having a super soft bed isn't good for me. Everyone else might be just fine. Breakfast - we are on PST so two hours behind Chicago. Breakfast ending at 9am was rough. I wish I had the option to have a breakfast packed for us, to eat a little later. Saturday service didn't end until 10am and this was so nice, enjoying breakfast together (my daughter was still asleep the other days so I ate solo) on our last morning there was great. Honestly that's it - nothing too harsh, just a couple things I would have liked to have known about ahead of time. All in all an absolutely wonderful experience. We stayed here as a wedding party and family, renting out the entire Bnb. The design is unique and fresh but homey. We decided to name it "upscale hipster". Each room was unique and special in its own way. The common areas were fantastic to enjoy as a large group. Breakfasts were new and gourmet each day and they had something for everyone, even accommodating dietary restrictions. There is an elevator inside that makes the space accessible. Staff was responsive and accommodating. There were nice touches everywhere, to include small bedside dishes for jewelry, higher end toiletries products, and remote-controlled/motorized blinds for the floor-to-ceiling windows. Only negative was the area could be tricky for cabs/Ubers to locate and there was some construction that inhibited a straight path to and from. It is otherwise walkable to restaurants and shops, and if the weather is nice, a nice long walk to the river area. Overall, would highly recommend this place! read more

My husband and I stayed at the Publishing House with our friends and family during our wedding weekend, which was one of the absolute BEST decisions we made during the planning process. Everything about the bed and breakfast is unique - the owners, Shaun and Kimberly, are so friendly, helpful and accommodating, the space is absolutely gorgeous thanks to Kimberly's expert eye, the overall vibe is beyond hip and the breakfast was out of this world. While planning, we had a lot of correspondence with (and questions for!) Shaun and Kimberly. They were always quick to reply and incredibly flexible. We ended up hosting our rehearsal dinner at Publishing House and Shaun and Kimberly made a number of helpful suggestions but ultimately let us take the reins in planning. I can't give them enough props for helping to make our weekend perfect. If you're looking for wedding accommodations, book here now! And really, if you're looking for a place to stay for any occasion, you should probably stay at Publishing House. I know we will never stay anywhere else again when visiting downtown Chicago. We've been there three times this year! Worth every penny. A renovated building full of light and warmth and a friendly dedicated staff. The rooms are decorated with clean lines and an eclectic, artistic flair. Details like a double sided fireplace, baby grand piano, amazing breakfast, cozy bedding, inviting library, wonderful soaps, robes and even home made cookies. We enjoyed the open space of the common area during our family staycation this past weekend. It was the perfect space for our family reunion. We look forward to going back ASAP. read more

Stayed here for my 40th birthday. The staff addressed my wife and I by name and made us feel so welcome. The amenities were excellent. The bed was super soft and comfortable. The breakfast was nicely artisan as well. My favorite part is the design of this place. It is sublime. read more

This beautiful bed and breakfast is a home away from home. Whenever I go to Chicago this would be my first choice if they have vacancy. If it were possible I would come just to read in the common area and have a magnificent breakfast cooked for me each day! The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The attention to detail is impressive. I would come back to request a different room each time because of how unique each room is. There is a lot of character. The owners of this place are very friendly and their 2 dogs are a nice bonus! Many other guests that we spoke to live in the area, but use this place as a staycation. Oh, my gosh. Part of me did not want to write this review, so as to keep it my secret, but I HAVE to share. This. Place. Is. Amazing. Every single part of our experience was incredible. We came here on a "staycation", so our main desire was to find a place to escape the cold and hang out inside as much as possible for the weekend. This was absolutely the right pick! Everything, from the gorgeous interior design & couches by the fire, to the delicious (included!) breakfast, to the heated (!!) floors in the bathroom - this was the perfect place for a romantic and cozy getaway. The staff is extremely friendly & accommodating - they're around if you need anything at all. There's also a little butler's pantry area with free french press coffee, snacks, and sodas if you get hungry or thirsty. The entire vibe of the bnb feels like you're in someone's gorgeous, large home for the night. Instead of staying cooped up in a room at a hotel, you have free roam of the communal spaces during all hours. Finally - the breakfast in the morning cannot be missed! They provided 3 options (which I believe change daily?) for mains, and a small buffet of granola, fresh fruit & juice, and other breakfast items. I had a delicious plate of chilaquiles - made in the kitchen right in front of us!! All in all, my new favorite place in Chicago. We're already looking forward to our next stay! read more

All I can say about this place is WOW, what an experience! We rented out the entire B&B for our wedding party for 3 nights in October, 2019, and cannot imagine a more perfect place to stay in Chicago. Each morning, our hosts cooked an absolutely amazing breakfast to get the day started, and we were able to come and go as we pleased throughout the course of the weekend. Many of us commented that the entire experience felt like home, which took a lot of the stress of pulling off a wedding and everything that comes with it off of our collective shoulders. read more

This is, without a doubt, the best lodging experience I've had in my life. Don't be fooled by the somewhat strange, not-exactly-the-b-and-b-you-were-expecting exterior. Go through the BLUE door off of May street. It looks locked, but it isn't! The owners immediately made me feel at home. The upstairs has 24 hour access to loose leaf tea, coffee with French presses, and small snacks including homemade cookies and pastries left over from the previous breakfast. And you can take any of it into your room, no problem.!There is instant boiling water and cool filtered water. The decor, from the wall art to the snack plates, is amazing. The architecture and decoration of the inside of the building gave me life goals for my future home. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable. The food. Is. Amazing. It's the best breakfast I've ever had, and I love breakfast food. The common spaces are perfect for studying (I'm a medical student) or just hanging out with a book or board game. The rooms are pretty soundproof. They have music going on in the common area at all times and it's undetectable once you close your door. There is a wine bar downstairs that's accessible via elevator that was also fabulous, though a bit pricey. It didn't take us more than 15 minutes to uber anywhere into the city, and I was able to find free street parking. Just be careful of any signs if you do choose to park on the street. There is 1 parking spot available for $20. We stayed in "Bellow". The bathroom floors are heated too!! read more

The hotel and staff are great, but choose your room carefully. I booked the reservation on Hotel Tonight, so I understand in doing so, you don't get to choose your room. We ended up staying in "Audrey" - 1 full size bed. I'm sorry, but that's just too small for 2 adults. Looking at pics and prices for other rooms, they all look more spacious, with larger beds, and for only slightly more money. Which I would have happily paid for the good nights sleep neither of us got. read more

This is great place to stay when you don't want your business trip to feel like a business trip. I had the wine-paired dinner the night I arrived, which was quite "haute" and entertaining for its presentation. Lots of nice people at the table, many of them friends of the owner. I especially liked the breakfast. It was absolutely first rate, made with the freshest ingredients. Omelette with goat cheese and asparagus, freshly made yoghurt and home made granola. Even the toast was memorable. Coffee....You should just assume a great deal of thought went in to finding it. read more

The Publishing House B&B is a must stay. The hosts are warm, responsive and happy to help you with anything you need. They also make some very delicious breakfasts! The decor and atmosphere made for a very comfortable and relaxing work week while I was in town for business. My company rented the whole place for the week and with the open common areas we were able to work, relax and unwind together. I'll be staying there next time I'm in town. read more
