Authentic Chinese restaurant with fast service and friendly staff. The place was open and bright…read more We ordered: Xin Jiang BBQ Cabbage (3.5/5) which was full of flavour from the cumin, Sichuan pepper, star anise etc. The cabbage was crunchy and fresh. It could use a bit more char. Szechuan Fish Fillet in Peppercorn Chilli Soup (4/5) which had tender and perfectly poached fish fillets. We wish it was spicier but otherwise this dish was tasty and full of fragrant spices. Egg & Chive Pancakes (4/5) was packed with filling and the pancake had a really crispy texture on the outside but soft on the inside. It had glass noodles inside as well. It has a faint aromatic flavour that wasn't too overpowering. We poured some of the Szechuan peppercorn chilli soup inside too which tied in all the flavours together.

Definitely authentic Chinese food. We went for lunch but was told it ended at 2pm (we were 5…read moreminutes late apparently)... So we ordered off the regular menu. A sampling of various dishes. The Dim Sum items we ordered (3) were excellent, but the Spicy Beef dish was very mediocre. The beef was tough and dried out... With way too much cilantro... Honestly not very good, nor was the portion very large for the $23 price. I also ordered a steamed rice which was hard and frankly tasted like a packet of Uncle Ben's Minute Rice. Service was quite slow considering the place only had 3 tables including ours. Overall I would not come back... Price was very high, at $66 before tip, for what we got and really not very good. Won't go back.

We got the Dinner for Two and added on an extra side dish. Their chicken balls were like eating chopped and formed little squares of spongey, dried-out greyish gristle, encased in tennis-ball-sized spheres of sponge-like breading, soaked sodden in a corn syrup and ketchup blend. Fried rice was simply and precisely that. Rice. It had been fried. Nothing more, nothing less. Their so- called Chow Mein (actually chop suey) was basically beansprouts in a tepid dishwater. I found a single bit of the stem end of an onion in it. I optimistically got the Cantonese Chow Mein as an extra add-on. Having had this many times other places; I was expecting thin, chewy noodles that have been fried until crispy on the outside, topped with assorted seafood, bbq pork slices and vegetable. What arrived in a tinfoil loaf pan was a solid gelatinous brick of thick, overcooked rubbery pasta encased in beef jelly. There were some canned-looking mushrooms, bok choy, and a few big under-cooked chunks of green pepper piled atop it. It unmolded from the container in a solid block and plopped out onto a plate with a jiggle and a horrible sucking, squelching sound similar to pulling a stuck rainboot out of deep mud. The whole experience was so surreal and weirdly obscene that I couldn't bring myself to try any. It was my birthday. My dear old dad had mailed me a card with fifty dollars inside to "treat myself" to a special dinner. What a sad, sad waste. Even the fortune cookie was stale.
