In Jan '24 we purchased a $5k wood stove here and had t installed w/ new flue/stovepipe. Very excited. Worked great! In Feb '25 we had an issue w/ an internal part supposedly under lifetime warranty. In Mar the tech arrived to diagnose (incorrectly) the problem returned to rediagnose (correctly) and waited. And waited. After dozens of phone calls and couple missed services calls I went to get said part just so I would have it. In Sept(!) I finally gave up and called Bailey's and got the issue repaired but still had a couple with stove operation and winter is coming. Second week of Nov(!) Della and the tech come and tell me that the stove had over fired and they wouldn't do anything. BS! I offered to work some kind of exchange for a new one and was told they wouldn't honor that warranty either so I took Della's offer of a refund. All of this seemed very odd and wildly frustrating. I purchased a gas fireplace insert from Tierra. Great Service. Very helpful. I used their recommended technician who measured/installed, Picked the unit up in Taos and did all the work from the new venting pipes, connected the propane and made sure it was operating correctly. Wow and rude. Just looking through the windows for a new stove since masks are still required to enter. We were not going to go in due to the sign on the door and this woman came outside didn't even give us a chance to respond as she bantered on about only vaccinated people can come in without a mask and continued because of her baby etc which is all fine but didn't give us a chance to even reply so we walked back to our car and she YELLS don't ever come back. What a way to bring in new sales. Looks like we will be giving our business to another store in Santa Fe. Taos how sad you make me. read more

I bought a $2,800+ stove from Tierra several weeks ago. They have only one installer (who is not their employee) who wanted to charge me $500 for less than an hour's work (including the drive from Taos). When I asked him if there was any way we could negotiate a more reasonable price, he initially said "yes" but then went silent. The mildly unpleasant sales woman I asked to follow up today came back to say his installation fee was firm. That's when I asked for my $$ back for the stove. Given the uniformly negative reviews here, I am amazed that Tierra is still in business. I will return to TSC for a cheaper (but equally well built) stove -- I already have someone lined up who will install it for one-fifth the cost. read more

I have spent about $10,000 at Tierra. Product is great. Installation was done by my own guy so that was extra but Bob and Della were absolutely super throughout. Then came the moment that I needed some minor service. Bob's son is now the guy in charge and he doesn't seem at all interested in customer service. Taos is small. Amount of choice is extremely limited. Nonetheless, I will find other businesses in the future.....even if I have to go out of the area for it. VERY disappointed. read more

We have been without working gas stove (which is the main source of heat for our living area) for over 2 weeks now. We bought a very expensive Jotul gas fireplace in December and have had several problems with it. I certainly don't blame the store for a mechanical problem with the stove, but I do blame Tierra Wood Stoves for their total lack of concern. Their terrible customer service is appalling. We are now waiting on a part that was shipped 6 days ago. Shouldn't a business be doing everything in its power to rectify a problem, such as having a part shipped overnight or at the very least showing some concern for customers without heat. A simple "I am so sorry you are having a problem with your fireplace, I apologize" would have gone a long way.. I would also like to add that we are repeat customers and we have bought several stoves from Tierra in the past and have never had any mechanical problems. Now that we are having a problem and Tierra has a chance to show us their great customer service and appreciation for being such good customers, they fail miserably. The only thing they are offering is total indifference. So please be warned, if you ever need customer service from Tierra Wood Stoves, you will be sorely neglected. read more

When I first moved to Taos fifteen years ago Bob and Della helped me select window coverings for about the same number of windows in my house. About once a year on average since that time a string will break on one of my Hunter Douglas blinds and I'll take them in for repair which is always free. The service at Tierra has remained consistent over all these years, whether I'm purchasing blinds or just utilizing their repair service--which did I mention is free? Bob and Della are warm, communicative, and always happy to see me when I walk in the door. It's one of the rare Taos businesses that have out-of-town five star stellar customer service. I had the worst experience with Tierra Wood Stoves. Referrals are one of, if not the best way to make money in sales. My dad bought a stove from them last week and had and average to below average experience. I thought it might just be a one time deal. I understand people deal with others differently. Bob was the salesman and it would be a generous compliment to say he was professional, knowledgeable, and motivated. He told me he couldn't email me information...I was a little shocked, but I guess that is possible. After I told him I didn't think the stove he was recommending probably wouldn't work due to my house being bigger than what the recommended heating area, he came back with smart remarks like....are you gonna heat your bathrooms? and do your bedrooms have doors? I'm not sure if his goal was to see how many smart remarks he could come up with or if he really wanted to sell a stove. Our entire conversation was about one stove, no recommendations of other stoves or his opinion to find ways I might achieve my goal of heating my house. I couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. I bought a stove a week ago today and was told it would be installed quickly because nothing else was happening. I called the installer and was informed that a part was missing on the stove (which we were not informed of when we purchased and paid for the stove) and he would call and let me know when it would be installed. A few days later, I left 2 messages, both unanswered, and finally was able to call the store today and talked to a disinterested lady who told me the saleperson was out of town. I talked to the installer who vaguely thought the part was to be sent from the factory today, with a 2 day delivery and he might be able to install on Friday--no commitment. This is poor service. Shop elsewhere if you can. read more
