Tiger Bakery it was for last weekend. Walking in the sweet smells of Baklava made me hungry. Ordering kibbie, tabouli, hummus, grape leaves, spinach pies, meat pies, fatoush, pita and of course baklava. I could hardly wait til we got back home to begin feasting and feast we did. Tiger Bakery is yet another local small business owner doing it up right! First time in this establishment, and I let the person know it was my first time there and may need some assistance in trying to figure out what I was going to buy. She took the time to explain what foods were in each of the deli cases and then said I could sample items to make sure I liked an item before buying. I bought small sizes on the following: original garlic hommus; meat & veggie grape leaves; lamb biryani; chicken w/ sumac fatayer; and a piece of walnut baklava. I could not wait to get home to dig in! Everything was very good. Hommus was very creamy. Grape leaves were on point. I warmed up the chicken w/ sumac fatayer as well as the lamb biryani. I used the hommus as a dipping sauce for the fatayer and a topper for the biryani. The lamb was super tender and moist - just wished there was more lamb in the biryani because it was that good. The walnut baklava was excellent. Not greasy or overpowered with a taste of honey - very good. Service = very good. Knowledgeable and took time with me to make sure I was happy with my selections before I left. The ambiance = a very small market with a handful of small tables if you wanted to dine there after making your purchase. Tastefully decorated as far as a dine in market goes. Prices = seemed quite fair. Everything is pay by weight when making a purchase from any of the deli cases. Wasn't happy a few years ago when they were selling expired products. Gave it another chance and found that their prices are almost double than Middle East market on Bancroft. Not only that their choices and variety are very minimal. You can't go wrong at Middle Eastern market on Bancroft. read more

Like always I start at the far end of the display cases and work my way to the cash register. Picking my way down and choosing an assortment of delicious items. I always adore this place! It's a deli/bakery with some grocery items. I think the owners are Lebanese but there are posters of Syria - so possibly that. The hummus is some of the best I've had. Everything is delicious here. The Tabouli is, hands down, the best I've ever tasted. (Not so lemony you wince.) The meat pie are delicious. Wonderful baklava, many varieties, all made by Tiger Bakery, not a commercial place in Detroit. No I do not recommend this business on Monroe. They have issues of serving people of color. This is the second time I have gone there and the lady doesn't speak but will speak to other customers. I am done with Tiger Bakery. There stuff is stale and the wait staff are not accommodating and can be rude. I ordered 2 meat fyters and they were filled with potatoes and peas and carrots plus the outer shell was hard. It was old product and even the micro wave couldn't soften it. I LOVE Middle Eastern food. There are always options for vegans and it's not terribly unhealthy. Stopped by today for hummus and pita bread but of course I got a bunch of other things because I couldn't resist. I got delicious yellow lentil soup and veggie grape leaves, plus I ate some hummus and pita bread there too. Toledo has a ton of great Middle Eastern restaurants, and the hummus here at Tiger Bakery is some of the best in the area. Nope. Nope. And nope. Stopped by here to try out their sandwiches. Over priced and just not good. First of all it's not shawarma. Doesn't even come close to shawarma. Microwaving stale meat, throwing it on cold bread with some concoction of a dressing (that clearly had at least one spoiled cucumber). Had to spit out bitter cucumbers then got turned off and threw out my $3.49 sandwich. The store barely had an groceries. The food was not fresh and it did not even look remotely appetizing. It's a shame because the older ladies there seemed nice, even though they clearly saw us come in and didn't bother to take our order until I asked one of them if we could be helped. Place is clean, that's also a plus. Not sure how their other store is. But I'm definitely not coming back here. Lack of freshness. Lack of flavor. And lack of authenticity. read more

What a great place to come for Lebanese food! It's a quaint little bakery where they have an assortment of food for take out or dine-in. The woman who helped us was really nice! They have a lunch special where you can get 4 sides or I think a sandwich and 2 sides for ~$6.99. (I may be a little off on the lunch special details since I only went in for take out.) The prices are great and you get a lot of food! I got about 17 grape leaves for less than $7 (it's $6.79/lb) Overall, the food is delicious- full of lemon/garlic flavors! The grape leaves weren't the best that I've ever had but they were pretty darn good! Definitely worth getting again! The hummus ($3.95/lb) had a garlic kick to it. It was so tasty that you keep wanting to eat more! The tablouli ($4.95/lb) was very flavorful that you almost have to take a break between bites because of the all the lemony goodness! And the ingredients seemed very fresh! I also tried the Garlic chicken pasta light for the first time. I love pasta salad in general so it was no surprise that I loved this garlic chicken pasta. It had a tangy, garlicy flavor to it. And the fresh tomatoes and green peppers added a nice crisp taste to the salad! read more

I'm going to write the same review for both locations as I feel their food is on the same level: outstanding. I lived in the Southeastern Michigan area for four years so I know good Middle Eastern food. When my favorite place in Michigan closed down a year or so ago, I was totally bummed, thought I would never find hummus-like-crack again. Boy, was I wrong! And beyond that, it wasn't even in Michigan! Both Tiger Lebanese Bakeries (the one in Sylvania and the other on Monroe in Toledo) have outstanding hummus, tabouli, fattoush, spinach pies, and grape leaves. Growing up in Toledo I've always loved Tiger!!! First off, the service there is great. Whenever we go, we get treated like family. The lady who usually helps us always has new dishes for us to sample and loves to strike up conversation. Then there's the food. Everything I've ever gotten from here has left me feeling full and healthy. My favorite is the majedra. It's like a lentil, onion rice.
