I was in the area for work and had a few minutes to drive through and get a "feel" for the property. I noticed an unoccupied lodge and got out to peek in the window. As I was returning to my car an older gentleman drove up on a go cart. Me: Good Morning Him: What are you doing here? (gruff tone throughout) Me: Had a few minutes, wanted to take a quick peek around. Him: You need to go register at the office. Me: Sorry, I just.....(interupted) Him: You can't be on the property until you have registered at the office. If you are going to camp you need to go to the office. Me: Again sir, sorry, I think I have seen what I needed to see. (as I am getting in my car) This happened around 11:45am on a Sunday. Maybe everyone in the office was as nice as they could be. Maybe this man had just had to run off some trouble maker. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Whatever the case is, I will not give them another chance. There are probably a dozen other choices within 10 miles of this KOA. I will be trying one of those instead.

My husband had already set up our camper trailer and was waiting on me and my 2 young daughters. Kathy refused to let me pull up to greet my husband and I was told quite nastily that I was not allowed to park my very small car next to our camper, not even to unload. I have never been treated so RUDELY by someone I just met. I do not recommend anyone stay at this KOA. I would leave right now if it weren't for my kids.

From the first employee we encountered at the gate (very nice young lady who gave good directions) to the last everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. The boat (pontoon) was clean, in good repair, and powered by a Mercury engine. I mention this because Mercury engines have a longstanding reputation for reliability. So, one less thing to worry about. I should also mention that my wife is disabled, so getting into the boat was a little more difficult for her. The employees at Big Water didn't hesitate to come to her aid and make the process as easy as possible. It was a small thing, but it meant a lot to us! Lake Hartwell was beautiful, and I would absolutely rent from Big Water again!

THEY ARE DISHONEST AND THE EQUIPMENT IS SUBPAR…read more We've been renting boats for 10 years over Labor Day weekend at various lakes, and this was by far the worst experience. When we arrived, we were told that none of their boats could be used for tubing, and that we should have known this because the boats only have 115 hp. That's false -- 115 hp is plenty for tubing. This was the first of several lies, especially since tubing limitations were never mentioned anywhere on their website or in the rental agreement. When we asked about the missing anchor, we were told it was left off because "foreigners" steal them as souvenirs. That excuse was as offensive as it was absurd. On top of that: the speedometer was broken, there was no way to gauge depth, and the seat was ripped. We used the boat anyway since it was Labor Day weekend and there were no other rental options available, but it made for a miserable day on the water with a boat that fell far short of what was advertised. Staff were rude and refused to offer a working replacement. Bottom line: poor equipment, poor communication, and poor customer service. I'd look elsewhere.

Okay, about the actual campground. When we first pulled in, we were disappointed to read a sign that said, "no lake access". We didn't book for that intention, but with 'Lake Hartwell" in the campground name, we thought we might have access. Be aware. There are two halves to the campground. When you pull in, the half on the left has tent sites and sites for smaller rigs, along with full-timers. The roads there were definitely more rugged. The half on the right is definitely prepared for larger rigs; this is where we stayed. Most sites are level; all have grass; and there's a variety of full hook up, water/elec, and nothing. Bring leveling blocks just in case you need them. Pool on site; laundry on site and all machines worked. The entire campsite is well shaded, which is amazing, especially in August sun/heat. With that said, bring a broom or blower to remove all the pine cones and needles from your roof, slides and awnings. And if you hear something slamming into your roof like an asteroid or meteor, no worries. It's a pine cone from 60' up. For real, our dog thought the siege had started the first time one hit. All in all, nice campground very close to Lake Hartwell. One last thing: only 1 vehicle/site. Since we had two, I parked in the parking area - no problem.

I came here on a very hot summer day with the plans to see some waterfalls. We got here around…read more8:30am which I believe is when the park opens. We took the South Rim (At least I think it was the South Rim) and went to all 5 viewing points which is a flat walk and a round trip of about 1.5 miles. Then we went down into the Gorge which includes 1,099 steps (actual staircase) to the bottom and of course that many steps back up. You can't go all the way to the Gorge floor without a permit but that just means you can only walk down 1,089 steps to a platform. There are plenty of places to stop including a very cool suspension bridge that overlooks Hurricane Falls. This was pretty tough for a 50-year-old fat boy like me but it's doable if you can simply climb stairs. The views are amazing and worth the quads burning for the next 3 days. The visitor's center is really nice. There is of course a gift shop. a huge display of taxidermy of all the local wildlife and a very nice museum that goes through the history of the region. The most important part is they have air conditioning. Suck it up, take the stairs and buy the t-shirt saying you did it when you are done.

We were greeted when we arrived with our registration packet at the entrance, which made things a lot easier while towing a 39' RV. The spots were closer together than other RV parks we have been to, but there was still plenty of room for the camper to fit and have the awnings out for tailgating. Other campers had trailers and cars parked alongside their campers. We drove to campus for the game, but they do offer bus service (I think it was the CatBus) so you don't have to drive. At check out we were thanked by staff who came alongside our truck to talk. They were very kind and genuine in conversation. We will certainly be back next season and would recommend this park for others looking for a place to set up camp for game weekends (or other)!

The new manger was never available, she, and relied on the some of the resident to do her job after hours and at the same time they were allowed to break the rules and when you complained about them, she ignored it. prices went up and the residents suffered. There are no amenities for the price you pay, he doesn't give any discounts especially to Veterans, they make you pay to have a DNA test of your dog's poop if your long term. They say they are a 45 and up adults only, and they are not. The owner has party's and the people going to the party race through the parking campground along with the golf carts that do not follow the speed limit. And heaven forbid if you are a good resident who pay their site fee on time and follow the rules but have a few friends over then he evicts you, he picks and chooses who you are allowed to have visit you onsite and at your camper, has even made threats to good resident he would evict if they have them onsite again. Quite time is at 9pm and the staff who live onside are not allowed to be social with the resident's if they are the owner fire and evicts them on the spot.
