Lions, and tigers, and bears - oh my! There's a decent amount here to enjoy seeing, and only about 45-50 minutes from Charlotte. A friend of mine used to volunteer here many years ago, and it came highly recommended. Having really loved other animal sanctuaries I have been to, a group of us came to check it out. For $12, it may seem a little steep. However, they do have a decent amount of animals there (primates, a bear, large cats, and they have multiple ligers!!) and it goes to a great, great cause. For a few dollars more, you can also go there during their feeding tour. I did not go to theirs, but feeding tours are wickedly awesome. They also offer a few other perks - you can have pictures taken and some petting time with the babies (I don't remember how much this is), which I thought sounded pretty cool. This place is absolutely incredible! I found out about Tiger World after checking in at the Asheboro Zoo and getting a tweet from them, otherwise I would have never known of this undiscovered treasure. The grounds are very natural, it is very obvious that the animals are very well cared for and the staff is extremely pleasant. I was surprised how close we were to the animals but the cages and spaces are very secure. The variety of animals is very expansive (bears, lions, tigers, ligers, jaguars, monkeys... just to name a few!) I would suggest to pay the $5 and feed the animals. Note: Bears and monkeys love the peanuts and the monkeys will catch them. Many of the animals are rescues from health and injuries. Take some time to read about them on the plaques in front of their cages. All in all, I would say that my boyfriend and I spent 3 hours there. We walked the grounds twice and got into a long conversation with the zookeeeper for the bears. We went in the midst of summer when many of the animals were napping in the shade but we look forward to coming back in fall when they are more 'active'. Tiger World is set in a neighborhood it seems (very well secured) so do not think you are lost! I would suggest Tiger World for dates, family outings or just an escape from the same ole, same ole. Consider bringing a picnic basket for lunch and hang out by the pond with the swans and ducks! read more

Wow. Who knew that NC would have such awesome places as this and The Lazy 5 ranch?? Seriously, if you are an animal addict like myself you will get your fill after a weekend at both of these places. Tiger World was definitely out there, but when you see what all they have you'll understand why. It literally strikes me as someones back yard with all these crazy and exotic animals just nestled away. it's amazing! When you walk up you are immediately in front of the white tiger pen, and by pen I mean fence where they can walk right up to you, and if you're an idiot and step over the little guard fence area they could rip your face off. You are THAT close to them! I thought because of the name that it would only have Tigers and maybe a few other big cats, well, I was wrong, and this was a great thing to be wrong about! There were an assortment of animals in this place and the photography opps were fantastic. As we walked around a jaguar was pacing and growling and we got it on video perfectly. I had never been that close to them before to hear them growling like that. They also had baby tigers here who were freakin adorable. I think you can pay to have a cub experience and get your picture taken with them too. The place just looks like a big park instead of a corporate zoo type of place. It was like we decided to go for a walk, and "Oh hey, there's a tiger... and a monkey.. and a bear... and a turtle... and a...." We went today with 4 kids(boys ages 14, 8, and 4, and an 8 year old girl). All of the kids and adults loved it. Beautiful quiet, rural setting. Lots of tigers, but also panthers, birds, monkeys, lions, bears, wolves, kangaroos, etc. The reptile house was closed today. We loved the park like setting and the overall sense of peace. It was beautiful, serene, and an overall great day. We spent about 2.5 hours. It's not huge, and easy to get through. You can see the animals so close up! A few tips: they don't serve food, so eat before or bring a picnic lunch. They do have vending machines with drinks. Bring your camera! Check livingsocial for deals!:) also, we bought the $5 feed cups (you keep the plastic cup as a souviner) but wouldn't recommend it. You can't get close enough to actually feed the animals easily so have to awkwardly toss the food toward the enclosures. read more

Loved it! We Took our five-year-old son to see the Tigers. It is small but quaint easy to see all the animals. There are birds Tigers, kangaroos,monkeys, lions, wolves, Bears and some reptiles. The parrots talk, the lions give sass and the mountain lion plays at the glass window. My 5 year old was tickled. What a nice little gem in rural NC. read more

It's a very sad place. The tigers had no water and it was over 90degrees! The place looks sad and abandoned. My 5 year old son kept asking me why they were panting and tongue out. He felts sad for them. This place needs major up keep and better care for those tigers read more

A must go to. Great people taking great care of beautiful animals. Go in the morning when the Lions Tigers and bears are most active. On a slow day you can ask the wolves "who's a good boy" and they get all happy. Someone lovingly cares for these animals. Support them. They even have a Ligor. HUGE. Awesome little zoo with a large selection of rescue big cats, including lions, tigers, ligers, ti-ligers, cougars, and leopards. The staff is super nice and knowledgeable and is always willing to answer questions about the zoo and their animals. Besides all the big cats and baboons and Mandril are other favorites. Many birds (mainly small fowl and peacocks) roam the grounds. You can purchase feed cups for small feed for feeds the primates, wolves, and birds. The zoo grounds are uneven, so probably not the best place for wobbly strollers (larger all terrain strollers are easier to use here) or individuals who have difficulty with balance or walking. If you live within an hour drive, I recommend becoming a member, definitely worth the membership prices. read more

It was an ok experience and a good way to spend time outdoors. The park could use some maintenance but overall I enjoyed being able to get up close to the animals. They offer a really good military discount that was more than 1/2 the normal admission cost. They also applied the discount to the entire ticket purchase for the 4 people in my group. That was a great savings. The animals seemed to be well cared for as I saw quite a bit of staff members cleaning areas and feeding the animals. I would definitely revisit if I was looking to do something interesting outdoors. read more

Visited here recently with my Grandkids. Was surprisingly a nicer place than any of us expected. Lots of different animals to see. Plenty of Tigers, monkeys, bears and even a couple Lions. The free roaming Peacocks were a big hit especially when one opened up her feathers almost on cue. There was also these loud monkeys(forget exact name) that made these funny sounds at visitors that were a kind I've never seen before and made us all laugh. This medium sized zoo was something to do during this Covid lockdown and was enjoyable. I'd say though that it takes maybe 2 hours max to see everything at a slow pace. It's a little rundown, and we didn't see anything to eat etc. although we weren't looking to eat there. I'd recommend this place if you are looking for a zoo that isn't too large and has a good amount of animals all that you can see very up close. Definitely nice place for small kids although enjoyable for Adults as well. read more

Knowledgeable and caring workers care for these animals.....while to some people the zoo might seem cruel, these are rescues and endangered animals or injured....they are not for profit and all the proceeds go to feed and care for the animals. My family and I visited this place back in May from an online special I purchased. In my opinion it is a much than a zoo , but not as big as a zoo. There were plenty of wild animals to see. Many tigers, lions, baboons, etc. The good thing about this place is one could get a much better view of the would animals than you would at a zoo. It is more up close and personal I would say. At one point we also saw one of the workers in the cage playing with a tiger. We were all on our toes hoping the tiger would behave. We also witnesses the other workers cleaning cages and giving the animals more water. We would be back again. But bring your own food for a picnic. I really just want to say that I was hesitant to come here because I usually feel bad about paying to see caged animals but once I got there I was surprised that they rescue these animals in some cases from really bad living conditions and since they have been domesticated cannot be return to the wild. The purchase of your ticket go to the care of these cats and it's not a place just for profit. These caregivers are highly trained and do a great job of giving these cats the best possible life for the circumstances they are born into. My husband and I got there around 4 and ran upon a trainer teaching a new trainer how to interact and answer questions with the public I was so happy to be able to see one of the cougars being fed and got some personal one on one time getting questions answered, It was a once in a lifetime experience and it's a memory my husband and i will never forget. Disappointing to say the least. We bought a food cup but there were mainly just wild birds and a baboon that were even interested. We ended up giving 75% away to another kid. The animals all look hungry. They follow you with their eyes and walk with you along the fence. One tiger even pounced on the cage as we were walking away and a baboon threw dirt at me when I ran out of peanuts. They look desperate for food, sitting by the little gate door that the zookeepers throw the meat in and growling as their eyes followed my kids also seemed desperate to find shade. If you haven't been, you really need to go and take the children with you! It's not a huge animal park, but it makes up for that in so many ways. They have keeper talks where you can get up close and personal and learn fun facts about the animals. All the animals have big and amazing HABITATS (not "cages"!) with enough room to romp and play and climb. All of the animals are healthy both emotionally and physically. The animals aren't stressed out and pacing like in many zoos I have visited. The staff is all super friendly and knowledgable. The park is always upgrading and changing for the better (it was a total dump before the new owner took over years ago- it also went by a different name). I have seen this place blossom into an AMAZING, fun, clean place that I absolutely love visiting! So load up the kids for a great day at the zoo! You won't be disappointed! read more

I have finally visited Tiger World in Rockwell North Carolina May 4th Saturday 2013 for my first time and it is awesome and breathtaking at the same time. If you have a love for big cats, then this is the place to go and see for yourself what people are talking about. This is one of the best places to go in North Carolina, be out with nature, to be able to be close to these animals and the only thing separating you from them is a fence! There is more to see then tigers, lions and leopards as they also have snakes, birds, monkeys, lemurs, wolves, bears peacocks and all of these animals has been rescued from different circumstances. The staff is very friendly and very informative of all the animals they have. I will definitely be going to Tiger World again with friends, so they can experience what I did. Love this place! And lived in Charlotte for years without knowing about it, definitely going to be visiting again. If you go in the afternoon around 1-2 is when they do their feeding and it was one of the coolest things to see. The tigers/lions are obviously active during this time and you get to hear from the keepers and learn about how they rescued them. After eating they all tend to roar and claim their territory, it was just a cool sight to see since you don't get to see that at zoos typically. Fun way to spend an afternoon, definitely don't need all day since it is smaller than a zoo, but well worth the price! The owner/founder cares so much and rescues the residents from horrible situations and gives them a safe place to live the rest of their lives in peace. My family was thrilled to find Tiger World when we moved to Salisbury, NC last year. We even sponsored a Tiger, because we appreciated the work they do. However, I was incredibly disappointed with my last visit. The staff wasn't friendly, the animals seemed not as well-cared for, and several of the displays were shut down. While I understand that Tiger World is a refuge for animals more than a tourist attraction or traditional zoo, the guests and donations enable the place to continue to stay in business, and the staff acted like my family was a bother and unimportant. This visit was absolutely not worth the $78.00 we paid for admission and a food cup. After the attitude of the staff and this disastrous visit, I won't go back. read more

We arrived at 2.15 and we were told they were not admitting people after 2 because they had a fundraiser that evening.
