This is a lot more entertaining than I had imagined. My kids who are seven and nine had such a blast. If I have another chance, I would come back and do the drive again because it's so scenic. However, if you're stuck behind a slow car, it can really make for a frustrating drive. If you plan on driving your car through the ranch, be ready for delays and don't plan anything afterwards that require you to be on time. It was a very hot day so I'm glad we got to sit in our cars with AC. However, our cars were super messy with animal food everywhere. The animals slobber and lick all over the car windows . We had a lot of fun feeding the various animals. We choose the wagon and don't regret it because of you used your car while getting one of the big horns animals ??? Well, you can guess you could get your headlight damaged, or the doors scratched, or the upholstery torn, and so on and so forth. Plus the food falls everywhere and you could be cleaning the car for a month and still not get rid of the smell of the animals or pick up all the food pellets which get in the crevices of the seats. I enjoyed our day at the Lazy 5 Ranch. We arrived on one of the busiest days of the season, Saturday the weekend of Labor Day. We waited in a line of cars about 30 minutes before getting through the ticket gate. No problem, everything went smooth and they were giving away free water melons and cantaloupe's. Winner! Super friendly and helpful staff. We bought three buckets of food because there were three of us. Two would have been plenty. The zoo is over run with the Ankole-Watusi's and those big horns are super scary when they are near your car. Also I was very disappointed that the only access to feeding the giraffes is from your car, or the wagon. Beware the Elands will fight you over the bucket of food. One snatched ours. All in all we had a great day, however in comparison, I do prefer the layout and the animals/petting zoo at Zootastic Park over Lazy 5. read more

This place is AWESOME (for both adults and children)!! I have never seen such an interactive place that lets you get up close and personal with the animals. You can feed anything from giraffes, pigs, and zebras to cattle, deer, and antelopes to emus, llamas, and goats! I have done this experience via drive-through in my own vehicle ($15 per adult, $11 per child, $3 per bucket of feed) as well as a wagon ride ($21 per adult, $15 per child). Wagon rides are reservations only Monday-Friday but first come, first serve on the weekends. Only cash or check are accepted, no debit or credit cards. Both have their pros and cons. In your own vehicle, it is at your own risk. You are advised to avoid feeding the Texas longhorns (because they will tear apart your car with their horns) and the Zebras. You get to control how long you stay in a certain spot to feed the animals, but if it's super crowded, you may be stuck waiting behind other vehicles for awhile. It is also quite messy to do this experience in your own car. I was still cleaning food pellets from my car for months after! The wagon ride (about an hour long) is great because you don't have to clean your own vehicle, you have a guide who tells you about the different animals you encounter, and you learn a lot more about how to properly feed the different animals - for example, nobody told us during our own drive through that you're supposed to throw the food at the cattle but can let the llamas feed from the palm of your hand. It's pretty funny watching the llamas chasing alongside the wagon for food. This place also has a playground and a petting zoo. You'll find peacocks, donkeys, goats, and more! The wagon ride gives you a more personal animal experience and the driver gives loads of information about the animals and plenty of corny jokes also. We had a great time on the wagon ride. I believe our guides name was Albert and he was terrific. Tickets for a wagon ride are $21/ea foradults. Our two kids under 2 years old were free. This includes a big bucket of feed with each ticket. You get so close to so many animals- giraffes, variety of cows, zebra, goats. We got to pet many of the animals and dump food into their mouths. We felt safe the whole time. The animals appear well taken care of, including the horses pulling the wagon. The wagon ride lasted an hour or so. The animals come close to the cars too- definitely consider your car could be damaged by a cow horn if doing the drive through. The nice thing about the wagon ride is that you dontget stuck behind any drivers. You can go off roading (so to speak) to avoid any points of congestion. read more

So much fun! I would absolutely do it again. My favorite was the giraffes and the emu/rheas. My boyfriend and I went on a Friday and it wasn't too busy for the carriage ride. I know it costs more but it was a lot more fun feeding the animals in an opened environment and not worrying about the damages to your car. We bought extra buckets for food and I'm also glad we did that because near the end we were low on food to give. (The giraffes eat a lot!) wish we could have passed by the bison but it was cool seeing all the other animals. Service was nice and they were on schedule. Used to visit ago when the kids were little went again today with visitors and disappointed in the upkeep of the some of the animals . Most of the alpacas we're in poor condition as well as a few of the larger animals The duck pond was filled with scum and mold , the water level was very low. one of the ducks look distressed . I brought it to attention of the girl at the entry booth when we left. she did not seem too concerned I showed her a picture and she stated" oh they're not supposed to be in there it's not supposed to have water in it . BS! It is fed with water supply and is adjacent to the other pond yet no water was flowing only a stagnant stench filled Pond for the poor ducks! We had a ball! My friend was visiting Charlotte for one day only and we decided to make a trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch. Now we're both 33 years young and got slightly discouraged at first seeing all of the kids and school groups but I'll tell you what, we probably had more fun than they did. We called to make reservations for the wagon ride and luckily for us they had 2 spots left in an hour. My drive from Steele creek was exactly 1 hour so it worked out perfectly. The wagon ride was $21/each. It was actually teacher appreciation day (free admission) and she's a teacher but we didn't know about it until afterwards...bummer . Anyways, the wagon ride was great. You get a bucket of food, an educational tour and you really get to get up front and personal with the animals. After the wagon ride we decided to drive thru in my Jeep. It's a lifted Rubicon with a removable top so the giraffes were hands down my favorite as we were able to feed them through the roof. We ended up spending 3.5 hours here and left right before the storm came in. You'll get dirty (a giraffe spit on me) , your car will get dirty (animal saliva and food pellets everywhere in/on the car) and there will be an excessive amount of flies but if that doesn't bother you stop by and have a day full of laughs and fun. *Cash only. On May 18, my friends and I visited Lazy 5 Ranch and arrived at approximately 1:00 PM. We paid for admission at 1:15 PM and entered the ranch at 1:18 PM, where we began feeding the animals from all four windows of our vehicle, as many guests typically do. Shortly after feeding a couple of Eland antelope, we attempted to drive forward when two of them suddenly doubled back and forced their heads back into the front windows. One of the antelope became stuck in the front passenger window, causing an extremely stressful and dangerous situation inside the car. Despite our repeated attempts to remove the animal ourselves, we were unable to do so. It took several minutes before any ranch staff arrived to assist. When they did, they opened the front passenger door without asking for consent and forcefully tried to pull the antelope out. This not only failed to resolve the situation smoothly, but it also resulted in damage to my vehicle--the passenger door was knocked loose in the process. Since then, we have made multiple attempts to contact Lazy 5 Ranch by phone, but no one has returned our calls or provided any form of support or follow-up. We are incredibly disappointed by the lack of response and accountability regarding this incident. We are requesting immediate communication from Lazy 5 Ranch regarding this matter and a clear explanation of how this situation will be addressed. This experience was not only distressing but has also left us with property damage and no support from your team. We hope to hear from someone promptly. read more

But there is no way to get around other cars in the drive-through the problem when you have young kids and there's not a bathroom. It's long and very slow. We used to LOVE this place and go all the time but we will be taking a break and maybe never going again. Our last visit was Sunday and there were several frustrating things. First off, our wagon driver was pretty rude. She stopped briefly at places, didn't stop at some of the places other people stopped at and in general was just short and impatient with the kids. Did nothing to make it fun or enjoyable. The wagon was crammed and gave no room for people to move around to get to the animals. It's clear their man priority these days is just making money. Also really over the cash only thing. It honestly seems shady at this point, and the fact that it's $21 is just ridiculous. Just make it $20! We purchased our feeding buckets for only $3. Lots of people was there but the line moved smoothly. We could feed all the animals but the zebras. Came here just over the weekend with family. Such a fun and funny experience! We did the drive-through experience and loved the unique opportunity to feed from the car. Our friend had been there before I'm told that there were far fewer animals than when she came previously, but I still thought it was a good variety. A few things to know when you go: - Some animals are more aggressive than others, so be prepared! There was one animal immediately at the entrance who took one entire bucket! Not that the staff can prevent that, but it was a startling start lol - Your car is probably going to get pretty dirty inside and a little outside too - The trail is bumpy ... make sure you have good suspension - Your hands are going to get dirty. We brought gloves from eating at a crab shack the prior day which we were very thankful for. At first I thought it'd be nice for the staff to provide gloves but then again, I'm sure people would leave them as plastic trash. I would recommend this for anyone of any age! read more

We ventured here off the recommendation of my friend's colleagues who loved it. You need reservations to do the wagon ride, which we didn't know. They also only take cash. Luckily, we had some on us so we paid our admission and each got one bucket to feed the animals. This is a wild experience. The animals come up to the car to eat, whether you want to feed them or not lol. We were both a little timid, me more so than her because she likes animals. I found this place on a whim and decided to try it out. This place was just so fun! The ranch is HUGE, took a long time to go thru it all and I love that the animals can run all around. I, of course, got the feeding bucket which was a great size. They have a decent selection of animals... my personal favorite was the Bison and Zebras. The price is affordable but I will say they only except cash so I had to leave, drive to an ATM and then come back. We had an amazing time here. The only bad thing on this trip was that a car broke down and none of the workers thought it would be a good idea to let everyone else know so we all were at a standstill for about 45 mins. People were getting antsy and passing other cars since no one knew what was going on. My friend ended up calling and asking what's going on and that's how we found out a car had broken down. Other than that it was a great experience for the kids. We got to feed alot of the animals and even pet them!
