The boat was clean and roomy. I was greeted by the deckhand Antoine, who was friendly and turned out to be very helpful and clearly working very hard to make sure everyone was having a good time, and catching fish. The captain up top was clear in communicating what do do, how to do it, and when to. I really feel like I got my moneys worth, and would book again. I saw the reviews ahead of time and was a little apprehensive, but my experience was the complete opposite of what was reported before. I did see a customer walk on the boat, not listen to directions, and caused some commotion in doing so. The captain was patient, and helped the customer settle in without scolding. To start with, the deckhands sucked. When my line got tangled up the DH cut my line and vanished without a trace. I paid for a second shrimp fly, which I never received. Good thing I brought enough tackle to keep fishing. Because the Captain and his crew were too busy for me. Honestly, I've never seen a Captain fish 2 rods and ignore his guests. But, I guess that's how they do it on the Tigerfish. Next time, I'll keep my money, it's just not worth it. Just got home after a long 13 hours on the water. I have fished this boat before. I go out of Emeryville probably 6 times a year. Typically get on Tigerfish once during Rock Cod/ Crab combo. Todays weather report was not good. Captain Al decided to drop some traps, remember this is the only technique allowed thus far in 2021. We ventured to Fanny Shoal. The weather kicked up and a fair number of folks were sick. Deckhand Jonathan is a professional. Some of you say he and Al are rude. I don't think so. This team is motivated to catch fish. Do you want someone to hold your hand or work their asses off to catch fish? The action can get fast and furious. Jonathan is running all around the boat helping everyone. Today most of the Emeryville fleet chose to do crab only. Tigerfish went to Fanny Shoal for quality rock cod and then started pulling traps. Johnathan works the crab like a maestro. We ended the day with 26 limits of rock cod and Dungeness. Capt Al came to the back deck several times to help Jonathan. If you want someone to hold your hand and be cuddly go to a movie. I give this Boat one star for the treatment of deckhand. I never went with this fishing charter and it was first time and most likely it would be my last time. Although, captain knew where the fish are ; they didn't have courteous deckhands. After being stunk for few hours in boat I wanted to change my location as you are allowed to go in between every other lines and all needs to do to change wait .., This idiot ( deckhand ) embarrassed me in front of everyone by moving my line back to where I was saying stay where you are. Also, he was hardly attentive and condescending every time you ask for help. I eventually got my fish and he did get $20 tip; in all honesty not well deserved. Booked a crab combo trip on the Tigerfish since my usual boat, the Seawolf, was all booked full for crabbing trips months in advance; going well into December. While I realize every boat does things a bit differently based upon the preference of the captain, there were a few things about the Tigerfish's captain and crew that give me pause to take their boat again. First and foremost, was the rude way the Captain would address people at times over the PA. Although none of it was ever directed at myself, the way he would rudely announce "get out of there" over the PA is not the way one would normally treat paying customers. Also, there were multiple instances in which the deck hands, one in particular, would rudely belittle the newbies in our group because they would pull newbie mistakes (i.e. - bird nesting because of not applying pressure with the thumb on spool, tangles, etc..). While I understand that it is frustrating dealing with people who have no clue what they are doing, we all had to learn at one time or another the hard way. There is no reason to be so rude and put off newbies from every wanting to continue the sport. I was also disappointed with the fact that others in my group who went without their own gear had purchased tackle from the boat, yet the crew acted as if it was a rental as well. The crew will pre-rig the rods with 1 set of shrimp fly w/ a sinker, and take it back at the end of the trip if you didn't lose it. Considering the fact that the customer paid to OWN two sets of tackle, it's rather dishonest to not let them keep any of it. Lastly, I really did not like their system of dumping all of our bags of fish haphazardly around the stern. When I had finished fishing, I had my limit of 10 fish. When I grabbed my bag at the end of the trip at the dock, my bag felt decidedly lighter. Upon arriving home, I realized that my bag was mysteriously missing 2 fish, with a total count of only 8. There is no way to tell if other passengers nicked my 2 fish, or if the deckhands somehow carelessly let 2 fish escape out the bag when shuffling it around. Either way, it is rather disappointing that I went home with less fish than I actually caught and bagged. +1 point for the captain consistently putting us on fish, and for the hard work the deckhands all put in to remove tangles and making sure every got their limit. However the cons unfortunately outweight the positives and as far as I'm concerned, is enough to keep me away from this boat for the foreseeable future. read more

The most horrifying experience I've had on a crabbing charter. I've been on many crabbing charters throughout Northern California and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The boat had 25 paying customers signed up to go out, yet we heard the deckhands count 43 people on the boat total. The extra people were friends of the crew that joined for free. When the deckhands were distributing the crab they were giving the smallest crab to the paying customers and cherry picking the largest crabs for their friends. Not to mention, when they started to distribute the crab they told us we would have to pay $5 each for a bag to carry them in. This was never told to us beforehand so we didn't have the opportunity to bring our own bag. I suppose the alternative would be for us to carry the crab in our arms? As the deckhand was filling our bag with crab, we watched him pick up a large crab, then put it back down and dig around for a smaller crab. We then watched him fill his friends bag with crab and dig around to find all the largest crab he could. We just stood there watching in shock. After the deckhand was finished cherry picking crab for his friend, he proceeded to fill extra bags with the remaining crab. He ended up storing 5 bags of 10 crabs each in the bins in the back of the boat. They ended up bringing in 50 more crabs than they should have legally been allowed to. I suppose I could have guessed this type of behavior from the deckhand when we were first heading out of the bay, but at that point we were already stuck with them. On the way out the deckhand was bragging to his friends about being woken up by a girl sucking his d*ck. It was so uncomfortable and inappropriate. I cannot believe people continue to pay to go out on the tigerfish when the deckhands display this type of behavior. I recommend staying far away from this boat and the crew. If you are going out to Emeryville Marina, do yourself a favor and choose a different boat. read more

Duped on a quality crab limit! I recently made a long drive up from southern California to do a crab/cod combo trip, hoping to come home with some decent sized crab and although I made that clear, deckhand Jonathan made certain that I got the smallest bag of crab limits when compared to the other passengers. As I handed him my bag to be filled, he gave me the bag of inferior crabs, while filling the bag I bought from the office with quality crab and giving it to another passenger. All the jumbo crab went into everyone else's bags and I got nothing but just legal crabs. Jonathan became irate when I made the observation that my bag had none of the nice sized crabs that everyone else(regular favorite customers, presumably) had in theirs, then he cussed me out and said that if I didn't want the crab, he would take them for himself. Hey D-bag, this customer is right and knows what decent crab are from a previous trip that I made back in January when I was allowed to select the crab bag I wanted and not accept what shitty bag a deckhand would ever hand me. The boat also didn't spend enough time fishing cod as we were back to the dock two hours earlier. The boat will keep every rockfish until limits are filled, even if they are only 5 inches long(hardly a meal). If I book out of Emeryville, it will be with another boat and hopefully with a crew that will distribute the jumbo crab equally and fairly. read more

Second-year in a row being on the Tigerfish for a crab/combo trip. While I don't discredit other people's reviews, mine were all very positive. Captn Allen and Jonathan were both there each time. Captn Al put us on the fish every time! This year the average-sized rockfish were HUGE. I'm talking 4-5lb average. We even left the docks a bit early to give us more time to fish. While I didn't have much interaction with Allen, Jonathon worked his @$$ off all day to take care of ALL the customers on the boat (both years). This was the first boat that I've been on where the deckhand pretty much will help with everything from lifting the fish out of the water, dehooking, and even placing it in your bag for you (not to mention the typical clean/scale/filet job). The people next to me kept getting tangles and Jonathan was always there to help. The most he would say is "give it slack!" or "tighten up!". Even took the time to ask our names and get to know us. I don't recall getting that level of service from other boats in the Emeryville fleet. This year Jonathan work extra hard running those lame crab rings (new regulations) until we got our limits. Ended up being a longer-than-usual trip, but kudos to the captn for making sure we got home with our limits. Looking forward to fishing with them again next year. read more

My buddies and I go crabbing and fishing a few times a year, typically at the beginning and end of the season. We had a trip planned out of Bodega Bay but our AirBNB was canceled so I decided to treat my friends to a chartered trip out of Emeryville. I fished with Captain Allen in September on a salmon trolling expedition. It was a fun and successful trip. Our deckhand that day Jonathan was by far the best I've ever had. Jonathan was engaging, friendly, hard working, helpful, knowledgeable, polite, and left a wonderful lasting impression. Since I had such a great time the first time, I booked a crabbing and rockfish combo with Allen. We showed up early, but were the last ones on the boat. The water was choppy and treacherous. Out of the 19 passengers, Captain Allen, and our deckhand Kyle, I was one of the only passengers not to vomit. We had been scattered throughout the boat and naturally were hoping to fish together since I had spent a ton of money and we go to catch up and spend time together. I paid a few fellow passengers so we could be together but they'd brought their own gear. The Captain was instantly rude and said we had three hours to get our stuff together. I was inclined to think he woke up on the wrong side of the bed until I read other reviews. He was condescending, crude, unprofessional, and rude throughout the day. Our deckhand Kyle didn't have the greatest awareness, and while he was knowledgeable, it didn't translate into great customer service or well tied setups. It was technically a successful day since we limited out on Dungeness crab and rockfish, but the poor customer service translated into a poor customer experience for the four of us. If I book another trip through Fish Emeryville, it'll definitely be on another boat. read more

Went out with guys from work, 6 of us, plus other 10 or so fishermen. Jeff the deckhand was really cool and helpful, had a good time with him. The Capt, Alan was a straight up asshole. Rude, talked shit to the customers about how they fished or what they were doing wrong, as some of them never been on a charter boat before. He yelled at me for handing him the net when another angler hooked up a salmon. Yelling at people for the way they reeled in their fish, yelling for people to get away from their rods etc. Did not have an enjoyable time because of the capt, made for a tense and stressful trip, total opposite of what fishing is all about. Like so many others, I'd give this captain and 1 of his crew, (John), negative stars if I could. My husband, one of his friends, and his brother went out for cod on Sunday, May 21st, and had the absolute worst experience of their lives. The infractions, offenses and insults are as follows: 1. Captain Al was verbally abusive and aggressive with his paying customers. 2. Deckhand John was verbally abusive and aggressive with the clients. 3. Lingcod were caught and kept which were under size limit. 4. The conditions were so rough that the captain should have turned around but didn't. A fact that even the deckhand (who got sick) agreed on. People were hanging on for dear life. 5. About half the people if not more ended up chumming so the fishing report for that day can't possibly be correct. 6. The pot was given to a friend of the deckhand rather than the fisherman who deserved it. 7. On the return home, the burlap bags along with beer cans were chucked overboard by the deckhand who was hacking up the fish under the guise of filleting. 8. Possession of fishing licenses was not confirmed. In thirty one years of marriage, my husband has never gotten sick while deep sea fishing...he sure did this time. The captain was extremely cavalier in his attitude toward the safety of those in his charge. He did not do his due diligence and risked everyone for a reason known only to him. I advise extreme caution when booking on this boat. My husband and his companions are in agreement that they will NEVER risk their lives or throw away their money on board this vessel with this captain and deckhand. Top notch crew. I've taken trips on multiple charters throughout the Bay Area and the Tigerfish is very good. Brought 7 experienced buddies on a boat of 33. Crowded but the crew handled everyone's needs immediately. Captain targeted us quickly to the fish and we limited quickly and retrieved our crab before getting our lines wet. Just like what the other reviews say. It is a 12 hour trip minimum as they go out past the Farallons. The captain and deckhand are not into teaching people what to do but they won't hesitate to yell at you. They also do everything for you so you don't really get to fish too much. The boat cabin not kept up. And they definitely give the bigger crabs to preferred customers. The captain and deckhand work hard but watching them work all day and being treated like crap is not what we signed up for. Went out for a day salmon trolling on the Tigerfish with Cap Allen Chin and deckhand jonathan. Only a few guys on the boat which my friend and I were very excited about. I'll start with the positives: the boat was pretty clean and the crew do work very hard to get you a salmon to take home. Jon does work hard to diligently check your baits and such. the negatives: I'm pretty easygoing guy, but the deckhand was rude to my friend and I right off the bat for no reason. He is very arrogant and treats most people on the boat as if they are incapable of learning the simple trolling set up. One main job of being a deckhand on a fishing charter is to educate your clients, teach them about what you do. We paid a pretty penny ($250 total for the day, due to Covid) and he made no effort to give us simple explanations on the gear set up or to be pleasant at all. He only earned half his tip, but we tipped anyway. He continued his special brand of horrible attitude all day, which was very exhausting. In addition to his arrogance, he grabs the rod from you when you hook a fish and tells other fishermen to "get the fuck out of the way!", meanwhile he lost two of our salmon and nobody got limits. Jonathan is hardworking and could do very well on a commercial fishing boat, but is a horrible deckhand on a charter with clients. To top things off, the deckhand Jonathan was very sneaky about trying to steal 3 pounds of salmon belly meat at the end of the day(which goes $20-25 a pound). Very surprising and dishonest, I can't help but wonder if he isn't snaking it from clients to sell to SF sushi restaurants for some side cash. I was considering a 2 star review to be generous, but then I saw the Captain Allen Chin gave himself a 5 star review on Google, of which I have attached a picture. On the thanksgiving weekend, I decided to go on a crabbing trip with the Tigerfish and the trip was not a good one. The trip out was fine but it is quite a boat ride and honestly the deck hands shouldn't be taking the few seats that are available on the boat while the customers stand for close to 2hrs. We did pull a lot of crab up but after thinking it through, that doesn't make up for the terrible behavior because we are paying them to put us on the crab. Once we got to the distribution of crab is when the experience went down hill significantly. As I reached the front of the line and it was my turn something ridiculous happened. The deckhand (Jonathan Tin) began to grab crab but if the crab was over a certain size it was thrown back into the bin and smaller crab was selected. I asked him what was wrong with the crab and he looked at me with a smile and proceeded to grab smaller and smaller crabs. Next up after me was another deck hand and his selection of crab was limited to only the largest crab that we caught that day. This wasn't just me who saw this, a few other passengers and I were watching together in shock because of how obvious it was. Beyond that it was strange watching the deckhands bag up 5 limits up crab (50) after everyone including themselves had gotten their crab. Felt really shady and I think legally those 50 should have gone back so that someone can catch them another day. Overall, it felt like the customers were helping fund a crabbing trip for the deck hands and their friends (assuming that's where the 50 crabs went). If you're going fishing out of Emeryville, don't choose the tigerfish, choose another boat as I'm sure the others are professional. read more

They don't spend much time to be chatty and this sometimes gives them a unwarranted bad rap sadly, but they are very serious about safety and make damn sure all you have to do is fish! I consider myself a seasoned angler and I fish the ocean on almost a weekly basis. I decided to go out on a crab trip on Thanksgiving day. I was looking forward to providing Crab for Thanksgiving day and I was not disappointed! Commercial season is closed and this is the only way to provide a crab hungry Thanksgiving day dinner crowd. The Tiger Fish was the perfect opportunity and most boats did not run on Thanksgiving. Deckhands sorted out the largest crab and we all ended up with commercial grade limits of quality jumbo crab. We left the docks on time and headed out for the crab grounds. Weather was nice and we got back to the docks at 11 A.M. They even had a cooking service open and for a nominal fee you got your crabs cooked. They do an excellent job cooking crab for you. (on Thanksgiving Day you don't need to cook more} The passengers were friendly and we had a great time. This boat is top notch, clean and well run. The crew was knowledgable and professional and I highly recommend them. Thank you Captain Al, Kyle and Jonathan for all the hard work you guys do. I am looking forward to the next trip with you. I've fished this boat about six times in the last five years - every time, I've limited it out. Captain Allen definitely knows how to catch fish... he had that streak for awhile where he limited out every trip for the last several years. If you want to catch fish and that is all you care about this is the boat. BUT other reviews are accurate. Captain Allen is pretty moody and not very patient guy. He was giving me a hard time because I brought on a fairly big two speed reel.. then another time he gave me a hard time because my reel was too light. I'm not sure what he thinks is the right gear for rockfish - because I've seen them caught on everything. Forget about trying to get help untangling... they will be too busy fishing themselves or helping their regulars. For me, fishing is suppose to be enjoyable- it doesn't feel like it here. And yes, there is a core of regulars that seem to get first shot at the spots... and all the attention. The boat is solid... fast and well maintained (normally). I've fished it when it was a tuna boat called the Maikara out of Santa Cruz. I think it's just the experience lacking on this boat. read more

Captain Alan and Kyle work every hard to make sure all the fish got landed if possible. the boat got limited out and the Jackpot Salmon weighted 24lb. everyone got two fish to take home only if they only caught one. Salmon mooching trip was scheduled, but Captain switched over to trolling. Had limits, but had to work for the last fish. 7/12/20 What a disappointing trip. to start things off, the captain had a serious attitude problem. for a lack of a better word, he was a prick. two weeks prior we were supposed to go out but the high winds forced us to cancel and reschedule. he wanted us to go out that day and fish in the bay but the person that set up the trip didn't want to so i think that pissed off the captain just a little bit. this is some of the comments he made throughout the day. "you guys should have just fished the bay when you had the chance", "you guys call yourselves professional salmon fishermen", "you guys haven't got a clue on what is going on out here". all this started when one of the guys that brought his own gear had set it too early and with a weight that wasn't heavy enough so we got a couple lines tangled and that's what set off the captain. now this was my first time fishing salmon so i followed this guys cue. now most of the guys on the boat are not professionals and were invited by a friend or family so i believe that the captain should learn to be patient and let that person know what to do or not to do. the deckhand had a much better attitude than the captain though. the other thing that was wrong with this trip is that you pay all this money basically to let the captain and deckhand take your pole and take over for you. i hooked two salmon and both were lost because of them not letting me do what i paid to come on the boat to do and that is fish, not watch. so to sum things up. this trip sucked, the captain was an asshole and i will never book a trip on the tigerfish again. regards, anthony murga read more

Another fabulous company fishing trip! This was my first time on the Tigerfish though. Captain Allen was great. He took us to some great spots and everyone caught their rock cod limit. Most caught some nice ling cods as well. Crew mate Rob was a real pleasure. He really knows his stuff and is so helpful. Waves were a bit rough this year but we all managed to stay on board. My fiance LOVES to fish, so he takes me on the Tigerfish, even though I get motion sick. Its usually not a day that I was looking forward to, but after some Dramamine, corn chips and ginger-ale, I'm read to go. When coming down the dock, you will be greeted by a cute yellow lab named Ahi. He often comes along on the Tigerfish with his Pappa, Captain Al. Captain Al is great. He's always willing to lend a hand and makes sure that we all have fish in our sacks. The boat is pretty spacious and pretty clean. There is a fair amount of regulars on the boat, as well as some first timers. The deck hands are superb...always willing to help out. They also do an amazing job cleaning, gutting and filleting your fishies. Im never disappointed on this boat. Unlike some other boats, who leave at a certain time, the Tigerfish will stay out until limits are caught. Fishing trips get pricey, but its worth it for a bag of fish and a day of fun with the fellow fishermen. read more

I wouldn't consider these people professional, and would not like to pay money to be in their company. For spending 10 hours together in one sitting, I am completely baffled at the lack of rapport that the captain and his crew managed to forgo with customers. I organized a trip with 13 co-workers for a trip to the Farallons to fish for rock cod. We had some greenhorns in the group so, I was a little concerned that it may be a little too much for some. However, Capt. Al explained the essentials before we left Emeryville and again when we got to the Farallons (2.5 hr trip). Everyone on the boat (30 people) got their limit of rock cod (10 apiece). The crew was extremely helpful in untangling lines and putting on new tackle for broken lines. It's not an easy job but, overall they were more than accommodating and patient. An added bonus on the return trip was the sighting of 2 blue whales. They breached several times for the "Wow" factor. I recommend the trip to newbies or Salty Petes and will definitely go again read more

Me and my buddy went Salmon trolling the other day with the Tigerfish crew. Capt Al took us out with only 6 anglers which was pretty cool. We had the whole boat to ourselves. The captain and the deckhand fished hard all day and we all caught at least one salmon. The problem is really the atmosphere on the boat. The deckhand, Jonathan, needs to grow up. Young and egotistical, he treated us like we had no idea what we were doing and was disrespectful and rude in his speech and behavior. He would always take the rods when we hooked up and told me to "get out of the fucking way" when he was trying to bring a fish to the back of the boat. He lost 2 of the fish and would freak out so much when there was a fish on he ruined the fishing experience for most of us. He was constantly berating my buddy and I and being unnecessarily rude. Captain Al was fine, definitely just focused on the job, not a huge people person, and he did cuss at the deckhand when Jonathan messed up a net job, but he was fine. All sea captains are a lil crusty. I liked how hard they fished and if you just want to catch fish its prob a good boat, but if you're looking to have fun in a lighthearted environment prob find another charter. Never will i go on this boat again. Allen who captains the boat and one of his crew named Spencer are mean, rude and have no sense of customer service. They yell at people who paid them to have a good time. Allen and his crew members do not know how to treat paying customers right, they have no class and their personality is the worst. Went fishing for salmon...16 people with 4 salmon on board after a full day of fishing. Originally made a reservation to go out with Salmon Queen then last minute they changed it. The men i met on the boat were cool people, but the captain of the boat and the ladies at the tackle shop need some attitude adjustments....not very good for business... read more

Back to 2001 I was another famous halfmoon bay fishing boat, but my friend introduced me tigerfish with Capt Al, I 've never come back to my old boat again. No matter who you are (newbie or senior angler) this Tigerfish boat is a must for you. Capt Al has excellent experience to find everyone on board limit of quality fish. Sometime when I got small fish, the crew switched the bigger fish for me. When I lost my tackle and I don't have it anymore in my tackle box (fish on that day bite only shrimp fly), Capt Al offer me the new one without any charge. Their service is the best of all in my opinion. I'm not here to advertise this boat and I 'm not related to anyone on boat, but if you love fishing, you should try Tigerfish once and you won't disappoint. Went on a rockfishing trip on the Tigerfish out of Emeryville. Captain Allen will put you on fish, but you will have a miserable time out there. The captain and one of the deckhands were consistently rude and yelling at people. Part of the frustration is that they allow 35 anglers on the boat, when similar size boats in the area will limit the number to 25. Packing that many people on a boat that size (~50' long x16' beam) results in more tangled lines, elbow to elbow fishing, and standing room only when the boat is moving (2 hour trip each way). I'm no delicate flower, but if you are going to spend your hard earned money on a trip, you should have a good time. read more

Just back from a fishing trip last weekend, and I will never use Tigerfish again. I have to give credit to: 1. the ship is very clean 2. deckhead Paul is quite friendly. However captain Allen Chin is mean and impatient. My father and I were first timers. My father twisted the fishing lines twice and by the second time we asked for help, Allen looked impatient. And even worse, that was he said when he turned back on us, quote-to-quote, "even 4 year or 7 year old can do this". Give me a break, Allen. One thing I am sure is my father is smarter than you! Had a great time on the Tigerfish! Captain Alan, Deckhands Kyle and Joey were fantastic! They always are extremely helpful and put us on fish! My 15 year old son and I have been going on this boat for over over 6 years regularly. Captain Alan and his crew throughout the years have always been focused on catching limits and providing great customer service to all on board. We truly appreciate all the great service!
