We booked a half day cruise with Passage Nautical for our small firm's 20th anniversary celebration and we had the best time. The captain and first mate were fantastic and especially the first mate - she made sure we always had a glass that was full, she was always there to grab the camera so everyone could be in the picture, it was a really excellent experience for everyone on board. There was an issue where we found out the dock we were traveling to was closed for repairs at the last minute, and Deb and Mitch at Passage went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. This review is way over due! This past October, I contacted Passage Nautical via Yelp to do a private charter for my boyfriend's birthday. Heidi responded promptly to my email and gave me information that I needed to narrow down my choices. (I did call like 5 or 6 companies but Passage Nautical was most flexible and had most options within my price range and date/time needed.) Let me just get to the point. We had a fantastic day on the water with our friends!! I opted for the half day charger on a SeaRay500 - totally swanky and awesome! Just what we hoped for. We were allowed to bring food and drinks on board. (No red wine but that was ok with us.) Captain Nate and our skipper Taylor were super accommodating on the route and stopped whenever we asked them to. They took pictures for us, let us roam around the boat, and made sure we were safe and had a great time! Thank God no one fell overboard! There were lots of shenanigans and drinking on board so I was expecting someone to do something embarrassing! But alas, we all came back to dock safely. I'm in Passage Nautical Enterprises' email distribution list. I contacted them multiple times in the last 3 months to inquire about boating classes and their membership programs. All I received is automatic email responses that someone will contact me by email, phone, text, but no one ever got in touch me. It looks like they are very good at marketing things, with fancy photos in the website and "personalized" email distribution, but when it comes to deliver on the promise, they have been a major disappointment. read more

I have had an outstanding experience with Passage Nautical. I was worried since I had worked with another captain in Seattle for 10 years so I had very high expectations. They were very professional yet personable. They have taught me all the captaining skills needed to feel confident on my new boat. They also helped me get my boat organized and taught me how to properly maintain it. They referred me to all the necessary local services plus helped with local knowledge of restaurant and store locations. They were great with my family too, teaching them first mate skills. They are also certified to train me through more rigorous navigational certification levels in the future. They will also captain when needed which comes in handy when you want to enjoy a few cocktails and not be captain for a day. All in all, I would highly recommend their services! Billy was extremely accommodating and prompt to answer any of my questions. He also found us an outstanding crew, Bob and Joey. They went above and beyond to give us a safe, comfortable, and educated experience. Bob seemed to know all of the view spots and timed sunset perfectly. Joey was all over the ship to make sure none of us had to lift a finger. They were so friendly we forgot they weren't apart of our group. Captain Steve took care of us on a 55' yacht in the bay on a very stormy afternoon. There were 12 of us -- a group of friends -- and we were celebrating a birthday. I can't speak highly enough of Steve. He was professional at every step and ensured that we were safe the entire voyage. I really think this service stands out from the rest. The back office is responsive to emails, phone calls, and webforms. The Captain (Steve) himself reached out several times to ensure that we had everything we needed for our afternoon. Many of the other charters that I tried to book had unclear pricing, were generally unresponsive, or did not contain all the information needed to book the ship. I recently chartered an eight-passenger sailboat through PNE for the second time. It was fantastic. Booking was easy and the prices are fair. The boat was modern, clean, and well-stocked with paper plates, (safe) cups for wine, tons of water and soda, forks, knives, etc. and safety vests for all. I requested Captain Barry Demak (who we hired the first time around as well) because he is awesome and skilled. Everything was on time for our four-hour ride on the SF Bay (essentially out toward GG bridge and back from Oakland's Jack London Square). Captain Demak provided us with his overview of the route and what the weather and currents might be like at different times during the ride and his predictions were spot on. All payments, booking details, and waivers are easy to handle in advance online and everyone is quick to respond with any questions. I highly recommend PNE and Captain Barry Demak. read more

I wanted to make the jump to power after thirty five years of sail racing, instructing and cruising. Passage Nautical made it easy. I checked their website and found reasonably priced private lessons. Samantha helped me through the booking and I was set up for a five hour lesson with Mark Woods at Passage's Alameda docks. Mark arrived in the morning ready to teach. There was a mix up about which boat was scheduled (Passage has several) but Mark calmly worked through the issues and we were soon on board a shiny twenty-seven foot Beneteau Barracuda. Transitioning from single to dual props was the main goal and as soon as we pulled out of the slip Mark immediately challenged me with engines only close quarter maneuvering drills. My initial death grip gave way to a smoother touch and we moved on to backing into slips, and so on. The five hours flew by. Mark was always in the teaching moment and gave me plenty of room to get outside my limits (without getting outside his). By the end my brain was pretty saturated but I felt I had the skills I had come for. Would book again. read more

We loved Passenger Nautical! I chartered a boat with them as an occasion to propose to my girlfriend. They were remarkably helpful in setting up the proposal and were both flexible and easy to work with in arranging the charter. Our captain, Barry, was an excellent guide around the bay and a good instructor for those without much sailing experience. He took us out on a 35 foot sailboat and the vessel was beautiful and comfortable. The stateroom that I hid out on prior to the proposal was very comfortable. The boat also had a great media system that syncs easily with a smartphone for easy music. All in all, a great experience and highly recommended! I cannot speak about Passage Nautical's charter business, but I will tell you to be very wary if you attempt to purchase a boat from them. Their sales staff and ownership is uncaring, unethical, and in my opinion not worthy of having a serious brokerage. Our recent purchase from them was fraught with non disclosure of pertinent facts of the boat we purchased which created not only financial damages, but more importantly safety concerns for me and my family. If they happen to have listed a boat you wish to purchase make sure you get a buyer's broker to represent your interest in the transaction as they do will not act on your behalf. The better course of action, again, in my opinion is to steer clear of the operation entirely. You have many choices in the Bay area Passage Nautical could possibly be the worst! read more

Torben Bentsen is an outstanding yacht broker and works for a tremendous brokerage, Passage Nautical. A few months ago, I didn't expect my boat shopping experience to be quite as complicated as it turned out to be. A few months ago, I didn't expect a yacht broker to become a friend. Torben, Passage Nautical (and Debbie, the president), and the resources he pointed us to (in effect, members of his team), all came through and delivered outstanding products and results. From negotiating with the seller, finding financing, gaining insurance, getting a good surveyor, and finding a great captain to transport the boat to SoCal and teach this swabbie how to be a skipper, Torben's help and guidance were tremendous. Even the haul-out company surprised me. (They accidently charged me for some zincs they didn't install. They realized their mistake and refunded the price of the zincs. I appreciate honesty!) I wholeheartedly recommend Torben and Passage Nautical, especially if you're a first-time boat buyer. read more

Chartered a boat for my company to enjoy the Fleet Week air show and while the actual boat and crew were amazing, the process to actually make the reservation was a nightmare. They had incorrect information on their website saying that a USCG Captain would be provided but turns out that was wrong and they refused to honor the original wording (I took screenshots and everything). Turns out we had to book and pay for a crew separately which wasn't in my budget. I understand now after a very heated discussion with their president that there are legal issues with them hiring the crew, but that's their fault for not clearly defining it on their website. read more
