So I have literally been trying to pick tile for our bathroom for over a year and that is not an exaggeration. I had settled on flooring we found at Home Depot but wasn't really sold on it. We had looked a few other places in town but most of the tile we liked was a little pricey. Today we went to the tile and marble outlet. First we were immediately greeted by Sam, she was friendly and patient as I tried to explain what I was looking for. She showed us the first option and it was exactly what I pictured in my head. She was knowledgeable, had great input and even helped us find a better flooring tile. We were able to take our tile home the same day because a lot of there options are in stock, which also means no shipping charge! We had a great experience and got an amazing deal. We will for sure be returning for any future tile needs! read more

We purchased tile from the Coral Street location. The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced. The sale person, if that is what one would call him, was late opening the business. Once he was available he refused to assist my wife in picking up the 12 pieces of tile we ordered in spite of assuring us someone would help we loading the tile in our vehicle. Overall I would say he couldn't have been any ruder during our encounter. I regret dealing with this man and would strongly recommend that if you need tile or marble go any else. read more

If you ever wondered what is like to spend time with an "asshole" just go into Tile and Marble Outlet and spend a few minutes with one of their sales people. One of the most disgusting sales experiences I've ever encountered. I went in to try and get some help finding a match for a tile I had. The sales guy (or whatever he was) was rude, insulting and provided absolutely no help. Told me I had no chance of finding a match. Tile had been discontinued. I looked into purchasing tile from them a few months ago, and borrowed a sample tile to bring home. I also gave them my email address, because they were going to email me pricing for another type of tile I was interested in. I never got an email, but I got a call later on saying I need to return the sample or I would be charged. I brought the sample back that day. I had my two young children with me (6 months and 2 years old), so I had my hands full, and there were other customers waiting to be helped. Our interaction was quick because of this, but I remember there was a brief discussion of the fact that I didn't have the receipt and then I left. I just saw a charge on my card, so I called to let them know I had returned the tile sample. I got angrily chewed out for not bringing the receipt. He said "this is how it works, otherwise we would lose thousands of dollars." When I tried to explain that I had my kids with me during our brief conversation about the receipt, he hung up on me! I guess I'll find another tile provider for my project, but that felt crazy. We went to two of their locations last year. I can revise, or post different ones for each location. Briefly: Midtown, L O location seems 4-5 start for price, customer service, anyway. I'm not positive about selection, but we did find nice possibilities. The gentleman helping us was polite and professional each time, which is all I expect, as a minimum. Because the one downtown had such poor customer service initially, it took me many extra weeks to visit the other, better location (customer service-wise, so far). I'd give them 2.5 or 3 on the average, but the first negative, seemingly bored guy downtown really put me off using them at all, anywhere, delaying work we badly needed after leaks/flooding issues. So, I'll keep you all posted on how it works out. I'd like to visit the Watsonville one next, as I have a feeling their hospitality will also be good. In that case, I'll edit or up this rating, to be fair. Feel free to react to this to remind me-and good luck with your flood/rain/storm clean ups, everyone, everywhere! We ended up getting what we needed, a sample, from the downtown guy, but we sure didn't want to do business at that location after being ignored, made to feel we were bothering him. History: We had bought tile there to replace broken time in a rental where we'd moved into (as is) before. We had great experiences then, before they were under current management/ownership. We are spending money we didn't really have/don't need to (on a tiny area of a rental) but we had a trip hazard so we choose to. We were very happy that first time, especially compared to how unhappy we would have been had any of us in our family broken a bone on the as-is tile that got worse. I had purchased glass tile for $22 a square foot at tile and marble outlet. The manufacture defect was not noticeable until it was installed. I took the business to small claims court and won. The owner then appealed the decision and took me back to court. The judge made the same decision and he was ordered to pay me a portion of reimbursement for the tile. He then only sent me 1/8th of the amount he was ordered to pay. This business is definitely not somewhere you want to shop at. They do not stand behind their products or comply with the law. read more

The two men that work here ignore you when you walk in, don't know about some of the products they carry. we bought this new kind of grout for $1300 bucks, they didn't know much about it, when installer had questions they couldn't help, said I have other customers here and I gotta go. they were ok to sell it to us but it stopped there. the installer spoke to the watsonville store and he talked him out of using it. unbelievable. I went to take it back after just 3 weeks and unopened etc and they refused. didn't care about it, attitude sucked. won't ever recommend or go back to this company. unprofessional and rude. You would be nuts to price out tile and not have a look here. We ended up getting a discount on some final inventory, and in doing so got something much better than we saw elsewhere for less money. Lori was totally nice to work with and accommodating. The two guys who loaded the truck, on both runs (couldn't take it all in one go due to weight) were ridiculously nice and concerned with the safe transport of the tiles. I just read some of the bad reviews and can't really wrap my head around them. For what it's worth I bought tile here a few years back with my friend who tiled our bathroom and they were also the best deal in town at that time as well. read more

I received excellent help and suggestions from Tom the owner and all the staff were very courteous, prompt and helpful. Tom even gave me a 25% discounted price because he was discontinuing a specific Italian Tile and he referred me to an excellent tile installer that did such a beautiful job I gave them a tip because I didn't think they charged enough for 4 days of work. I'm now going to order a Granite or Marble Counter top because he earned my repeat business. I checked Home Depot but they screwed up so many times they lost my business and their quality wasn't as good a quality as the Italian Tile Tom recommended. Last, after my tile job was complete, tom took back the balance of my tile I didn't need and refunded the difference. read more

Just like all small business's; hourly employees are hit & miss when it comes to there enthusiasm to help you beyond the owner and promote what the owner is hoping for, but after reading the posts my focus is on the selection and front desk assistance I received and that was from the owner. I don't think I was over priced, pushed on an over stock item nor lead, instead I was helped and thoughtfully received bringing me to my own informed decision. They had a good in stock selection and they took the time to lay out what I needed for the entire project and carried the peripheral items one may need to do this type of project. I was promptly loaded up promptly hence the experience went as well as could be expected. As far as Home Depot vs Tile and Marble Outlet; TMO has a much better selection and a choice of quality products and you get MUCH better assistance, also you support a local business and supporting local means my money might have a chance of returning into my community. I believe I'll see these guys again when the world returns to normal. read more

I've been here several times and have always experienced subpar customer service. Ive witnessed them do it to anyone and everyone that comes in while I'm visiting. Sure they will answer your q's, but the attitude, short answers, brief, etc always makes me feel uncomfortable. If there were better options in town I would shop elsewhere, this is all based on the customer service alone. Professional, helpful, and creative! Lori has helped us with two bathroom remodels. She found an obscure tile we'd seen in a different store (and even beat the price of the Santa Clara competitor), worked with us to select complimentary items, like trim pieces, a vessel sink, special order drawer pulls, etc. She helped us estimate quantities, gave great advice about materials, and was always able to answer our questions. As our project was delayed, the store was very understanding about our "storing" some of our tile longer than expected before we could pick it up. When we had an accident and broke a few special trim pieces, they were able to expedite shipment of replacement pieces so we could finish the project without a long delay. We visited several other tile stores before finding Tile & Marble outlet, and none of them seemed to care about our project. These folks care, and you'll benefit from years of experience if you take their advice! read more

I have done business with Tile & Marble outlet many times over the years and each time I end up saying never again. They just don't seem to give a damn. I describe the attitude as: "...can't wait for the day to be over so I can get to the beach." This last round they said they had all the materials available, no problem. We placed the order and picked up the first load of tiles. Later we are told that they have no bullnose but will have it by the end of week. Two weeks later its still not here and the masons can go no further. I still have to pay them or loose them. They wait two days to call you and tell you that tile is in; so we have to call each day to check. ...and there the only construction supplier in Santa Cruz that doesn't take AMEX which is certainly the best tool for managing my business finances. read more

Last Friday I stopped by and was helped by a lady with long black hair -she answered all my questions, showed me examples-I wanted to return with my wife the next day to actually order them. I was happy that I found a place to order tile from. On Saturday we arrived to place an order, but we had changed our minds from the day before and wanted to see an example of the new tile-a picture from a catalog would have worked. The lady with the long grey and red hair acted completely indignant of our request to see a sample- as if it was a completely unreasonable request. I actually thought for a moment that they don't sell tile at all, and that's why she acted that way...but no they sell tile...just not to me. read more

We were sent here by our contractor Corey, and he was absolutely right in knowing we would leave happy. We found so many options to choose from for the accent tile in our bathroom shower that we had a hard time deciding! They were a little short staffed the day we went, but when it came to be our turn, we were not rushed or hurried along. The gentleman who helped us even went so far as to wet the tile with a spray bottle, because apparently the style we chose (called "transparent" but misleading) looks very different when wet, and even looked different than their sample. If you're looking for something a little different than the typical big box stores, you will surely find it here. Why this rating is 4 stars and not 5: no website (I need to go find a specific grout color and this is one of those things that would be easy to put on a website) and no answering machine if you call after hours. Just read the previous two reviews and they got great service? That was not the case for my daughter & I. We went in Saturday May 23 looking for tile & not once did anyone acknowledge that we were even inside the store. We roamed around looking at all the displays waiting for some to say "good morning" or "we'll be with you in a few minutes" or even "we're not going to help, get out" but nothing for 15 mins until we were walking out. This review is for a purchase of very nice tile for our kitchen and bathroom. We did not have time to write until now a number of months later. Tile & Marble Outlet gave us a good price also. Then a month later our contractor brother shows up from out of state as a surprise and tells us he only has a couple of days to spare but was willing to put up back slash in the kitchen. We went back to Tile & Marble Outlet to shop. We just bought a new house and decided to strip the old linoleum floor and replace it with porcelain tiles. We've looked at Home Depot, a tile store on Mission street and online. Then we met our new neighbors and Sally suggested we checked out this place (where she works). She was incredibly helpful and gave me great ideas of what to do with my floor. I borrowed a few samples to show my husband and to see if it would match our wall color, cabinets and counter-top. The owner, Joe also gave us some great ideas! She helped us find the right tiles for our budget and took the time to explain all the differences between the various models and types that we liked. I just returned from Tile and Marble Outlet in Santa Cruz and the service there STINKS. The guy helping me couldn't do math, they had no knowledge of what they have or do not have in stock. Twice I have been in this place when employees were having an argument. While I was waiting for someone to check stock, I asked another employee what she would suggest for a grout color and she looked me in the eye and walked away, as if to say "you are not my customer, so ask the other guy"... Finally, I thought I had enough information to place an order, the guy charged me and sent me out to the loading area only to wait more and then discover that they don't have more than a dozen of the tiles I wanted. Back inside for a refund...and I could not wait to leave. Total waste of time. I'll take my money elsewhere. read more
