What you really have here are local folks designing and printing shirts, stickers, magnets, mugs, and a variety of other products all with an Indiana theme. Somehow, I'd missed the fact that they'd opened a storefront in SoBro directly off of East 54th Street in the storefronts next to and behind The Clubhouse. I was in the area today and decided to check out some new businesses. This area tends to have a lot of fluidity in terms of business - not always because of closures, but because businesses also just grow and move on. Every time I'm here, I seem to find something new. United State of Indiana has ramps at both doors - both ramps are really well built. The interior is easy to navigate and is filled with a wealth of shirts, stickers, mugs, posters, magnets and so much more. There's pop culture themes, Indiana and Indy specific themes, political statements, landmarks and a whole lot more. The employee working was super friendly and helpful. I could barely turn any corner without seeing something I wanted to buy for a friend. Truthfully, there's no doubt I'll be back because this stuff is so incredibly well done. I ended up taking home two magnets today - one for the Monon and one with the Indianapolis flag. They're already on my fridge. This is such a terrific shop. I happened to pick up a magnet that had an incorrect price (they recently had to do a bit of an increase - completely reasonable and I'd easily have paid it, but they insisted on honoring the price as it was their mistake). I also loved that they had a wide variety of sizes for t-shirts, hoodies, sweaters, etc. Because of how my body curves with spina bifida and also because of my ostomy, I tend to wear larger clothing. They have it here. Such a delight. United State of Indiana started as an online storefront. That storefront still exists, however, I'm definitely one who loves that in-person experience and I look forward to returning here in the near future. As another accessibility note, while you can park right off East 54th, there's an accessible spot behind The Clubhouse and next to the back entrance of the store. It's where I typically park as it gives the wheelchair lots of room.

The shop was crowded during my weekend visit with people buying college and sports logo hats and accessories. Checkered race theme hats and shirts filled the store and were popular. I liked the Indiana shaped leather pieces that are made in house. The items are unique. The accessories make great gifts, but the caps were pricy at $50 each. Although I left empty handed, I'll probably return for gifts. The staff were friendly, but busy with customers during my visit. The checkout lines were long. We found nearby free street parking.

Actually, I took that as a sign that I am an "in demand" size :-) I did like the Insight slacks - no pockets, wide legs, fluid fabrics...and also several tops that I tried on, but for which I cannot remember the brand. There seemed to be a lot of nice jeans in here, but I wasn't in a jeans trying mode, so that wil have to wait for another visit. Some things here were decidedly too slinky for my line of work, but I feel pretty sure I could find some wardrobe additions here if I make it in shortly after a shipment. The young lady working on the day of my visit was very pleasant and easy-going and really did try to help me find some cool slacks in the style I prefer that were also my size. She certainly gets an "A" for effort.

She detailed where I'd find the different genres of books, then I was off to explore. They have a few different rooms full of books in a variety of genres and age ranges. Romance, thriller, teen/YA, fantasy, memoir, children's books, themed coloring books, and more. There's a mix of new and used books, and the prices were very fair. I spent a lot of time exploring their shelves! They make good use of the space, with several nooks and wall spaces holding even more items. They have free coffee and tea you can help yourself to; just pick your favorite and use the little Keurig. I had a garden tea--ginger peach green tea--and it was nice to sip as I perused. If you're looking to treat yourself to some extra goodies along with your books, don't miss the bookish apparel, candles, and stickers! On my visit, they had these hand painted floral glass mugs too. So pretty! I could easily put together a really nice gift here, which is always a nice bonus in a bookshop. I enjoyed my visit Garden of Readin' and walked out with a sticker and a special edition fantasy novel. This place is a gem, and I'm looking forward to more visits in the future!

I was exploring Fishers along 96th St and noticed this little shop next to the Hallmark store in a…read morestripmall just east of I-69. Apparently, it opened about 2 years ago and somehow, didn't have any Yelp reviews. Well, I always enjoy checking out gift shops, especially when they feature a great deal from local artisans. When I first entered, I realized that the shop has three sections/rooms. The first is mostly gift items featuring candles that are made by and support women at Wheeler Misssion, funny socks, and a variety of items that suitable for gifts. Many have inspirational themes as well. The room beyond that features women's clothing and jewelry. I will let someone else who knows more about those things review these items, but the space was colorful and easy to move around in. The back room, or man cave, is small but is a great place for guys to hang out while their lady friend shops. There is a TV back there as well as some items that might be fun gifts for men. They've figured out the shopping experience of married life here! ha! Although I didn't get to meet the owner, the woman who was working during my visit was friendly and very helpful filling me in on the source of items and how the owner supports other local businesses and artisans.
