I stopped in to have lunch and it was the biggest mistake. The food was very dry and flavorless.

Terrible, slow service. It took me 15 min to get 1 cup of coffee at a prime time. Seems the norm at this location...

Out of towners, be warned - the other location of Rising Creek (on GPS) is no longer an actual restaurant, but simply makes and ships their bread. We made that mistake, without checking their website, and drove to the other location first. All of that aside, we still arrived at their second location with plenty of time to eat before heading to the football game. I ordered a simple omelette with sautéed peppers, onions and cheese while my dad and my husband decided to try their salt bread with gravy and eggs (think biscuits and gravy but instead of biscuits, it was their infamous salt bread). The omelette was tasty, but nothing special - the type of omelette I could easily make it home. My dad and my husband felt the same about their "biscuits" and gravy and eggs. The service was friendly and the girl was very kind and attentive. The space is simple and non-descriptive. So if you are looking for a bite to eat and find yourself near the campus, come see for yourself.

I asked a couple questions about the menu and was immediately directed to the BLT by a woman in the kitchen. Wow I wasn't disappointed. It was sooooo good. The bread was toasted perfectly (so it didn't kill the roof of my mouth), the tomato's and lettuce were fresh, the bacon crispy, and that basil mayo. A life changing BLT if there is such a thing. A couple side notes I appreciate. Bittersweet's marketing team deserves. Ton of credit - they have some awesome swag available for purchase. Also, this is a Christian oriented cafe with bible verses, messaging, and music. Love it! And finally, check out the story about Bittersweet's roots, its commitment to addiction recovery/support, and the owner's son's story/passing. The name "Bittersweet Cafe" will take on a deeper meaning (the news articles can be found in the walls before the counter by the bathrooms). Cheers Bittersweet, thanks for having me, and God bless!

Nice landscaping provides a near perfect setting to enjoy a cup of coffee. I ended up getting a simple red eye. It was delicious. I understand they brew Iron Star coffee out of West Mifflin. The same Iron Star that owns Coffee Tree shops. If this coffee is any indication, I think I need to visit Coffee Tree again. It's been a while. Anyway, I had a really good cup of coffee and a peanut butter and jelly cookie. No complaints on the cookie, but I wish they had some breakfast sweets like scones or cinnamon rolls. Next time I'll try some real food. Just be aware that things are a little pricey here.

That led us straight to Heidi's Bakery & Cafe, and honestly? Total home run. There's a sign hanging on the wall that says: "Homemade with love and butter." That pretty much tells you everything you need to know. You can taste the care and quality in everything they make. We ordered the BLTs on homemade sourdough, and they were absolute perfection --thick, delicious bacon, crisp beautiful lettuce, sweet tomatoes, and sourdough that deserved its own standing ovation. A truly excellent BLT is a thing of beauty, and Heidi's version was gorgeous. The french fries had some kind of secret seasoning situation happening that made them completely addictive. Every bite somehow got better. And then the desserts. Cupcakes. Cookies. Pastries. Basically a direct shipment from heaven itself. The kind of bakery case that makes you start negotiating with your own self-control and losing immediately. You order at a little window and then take food to eat on their little partially covered patio. We were traveling with our dog and they allow dogs on the patio. The clerk is super friendly. The patio is a mix of old unmatched patio furniture on a layer of mulch. Some of the seating was wet from a recent rain. There are fun signs around. We were the only patrons for an early dinner and found some dry seating. The menu is a blend of chimmichuris, burritos, salads. Food came out fairly quickly. The clerk brought the food out to us on the patio and checked on us later. I ordered the Tijuana Crispy Chicken Salad in an edible tortilla bowl. Wow, it was hot! Buffalo hot! Pickled onions, hand-cut thin fries, fresh mozzarella, fresh lettuce blend, cheddar cheese, and crispy chicken made this salad a winner in my book. (I could have done with a bit less buffalo sauce.)
